Marshall Amplification is the best known designer and manufacturer of professional music amplifiers and stage speakers. Its classic “Marshall” script on the grill cloth is a guarantee that the equipment is top quality and will produce, as Pete Townshend noted, “sizzling sound with crunch!” Since 2010 Marshall has worked closely with Sweden’s top-rated Zound Industries to create consumer versions of its equipment. This review will focus on the latest of these collaborations, the Marshall Stockwell II wireless portable Bluetooth speaker, a surprisingly powerful unit with amazing sound quality and some great bonus features. After extensive testing of the Stockwell II speaker in a wide variety of applications my conclusion is that this very compact unit has a superb combination of features, power and sound quality which far surpass the vast majority of its competitors in its price range. First, consider that the Stockwell II is packed with a great set of features and specifications: • Bi-directional stereophonic sound radiation • Maximum sound level 80 dBA • Frequency range: 60 Hz to 20,000 Hz • 100mm woofer/main speaker, two 20mm dome tweeters, plus passive reflex radiators to create deeper bass • 3 Class D Amplifiers provide 10 watts of power for main speaker and 5 watts of power for each dome tweeter • Volume, Bass and Treble analog controls • Very compact: 7.1” tall, 6.3” wide, 2.8” deep • Weight: 3 pounds and feels very solidly built • Shock-resistant: Survives 2 foot drop test • Silicon exterior provides IPX 4 certified water resistance (protection from water splashed on it from any direction for at least 5 minutes) and it is very easy to clean • Total Harmonic Distortion of less than 1% • Bluetooth 5.0 aptX connectivity with multi-host functionality • 3.5 mm external input • Power supply: lithium polymer battery, USB-C 5V-12V recharge cable included • Battery life: 20+ hours (12+ hours at maximum volume level), fast recharge time • One year warranty on parts and labor The Stockwell II comes securely packaged in a fabric cover within a shock-resistant storage box. Included is a simple illustrated getting started brochure, the usual safety warnings and a USB-C charging cable. The Stockwell II speaker is very solid and quite attractive in an old school, rock concert stage style. It can survive the usual rough handling that portable Bluetooth speakers have to endure. The IPX 4 rating means you can splash it with water for up to 5 minutes from any direction. And the tight weave on the silicon speaker fabric and other surfaces makes it very easy to clean. The USB-C charging port is located on the right side, just above the 3.5 mm stereo input connection. You can attach the charging cable and it will be unobtrusive while you use the speaker. But the long battery life (20+ hours) and high-speed USB-C charging rate means that you won’t be recharging very often. The controls are very simple. The top has a Bluetooth connecting pressure switch, three big, analog knobs to adjust volume, bass and treble and a bar gauge indicating the battery charge. There is also a very nice, wide carrying strap which you can attach to the brass knobs on each side. The total package says quality, simplicity, very high cool quotient. The Bluetooth connection was effortless and solid from every device I tried (phone, tablet, laptop). It held the connection steady up to about 50 feet from my music source (with no walls or other blockages in-between.) As noted, you also have the option of connecting a non-Bluetooth source with a 3.5 mm stereo cable. OK, so that’s the basics, but the big question is, how does it sound? In a word – amazing! I played a wide variety of music on the Stockwell II unit. Everything from 1950s jazz classics, 1960s rock and Motown standards, 1970s heavy metal to recent classical music masterpieces. Everything was reproduced with great fidelity and with a warm, rich body that no other Bluetooth speaker I have ever used could match. Bass lines had a very satisfying thump, mid-range tones were silky smooth and high notes could shatter crystal. I was very impressed that this compact unit had such range and power! The sound quality is largely due to the superb engineering of Marshall and Zound. The big 100 mm (4”) main speaker driver is directed at the rear of the unit and the two dome tweeters fire through the front surface. Bass is not really perceived as directional – most of the stereo effect comes from the mid-range and high notes which the tweeters produce. Having the large speaker facing the back surface frees up space for the tweeters to work more effectively. Just put your hand on the front and rear of this speaker and you can really feel the difference – a massive thumping on the back and the energy of high frequencies on the front surface. Passive reflex radiators also help to distribute the sound through both faces. There are a few elements which are not perfect. First, the maximum volume is 80 dB – adequate but not overwhelming. Some Bluetooth speakers are rated as 90 dB (twice as loud as 80 dB.) Turn the volume all the way up and it is room-filling sound but not room-shaking sound. The old Spinal Tap joke about turning the knob up to 11 definitely does not apply here. Second, the Bass and Treble controls may confuse some. They are marked from 0 to 10 but 5 is really neutral. Below 5 and the tone is attenuated, above 5 and the effect is enhanced. Just set both at 5 and then work from there to get the sound profile you like best. Third, the unit is not really interactive with your source. You can’t skip to the next song from the speaker, nor can you adjust the source volume from the speaker, only the speaker’s volume. This is not really a big deal but if you are used to the interactive nature of most Bluetooth speakers just be aware of this minor limitation. On the plus side, the use of USB-C for charging means that the Stockwell II is future-tech compatible. You can charge other devices by plugging in to the power in/out port on the side and the massive battery will bring your other devices back to life quickly. The battery meter is easy to read and leaves no doubt about the charge level. The elegant carrying strap makes moving the speaker around very comfortable, but it can be removed or just flipped down if you don’t like its look. The 3.5 mm input gives you the option of playing other sources through this great speaker. Most Bluetooth speakers have a similar port but this is a speaker good enough to actually make you want to use it! After living with the Marshall Stockwell II Bluetooth speaker for a couple of weeks I can confidently state that it is one of the best values on the market. It has my whole-hearted and enthusiastic recommendation!

When this arrived I didn't expect a whole lot based on the size alone - boy was I wrong! It's a square, each side a little longer than the length of a dollar bill. A lot of attention went into the detail of the finish - very nice! Controls are easy - a Bluetooth pairing button, volume, bass and treble. When my unit arrived the battery was stone cold dead - but maybe 5 minutes on the USB-C connection and it fired right up.. I started with some AC/DC since they always bring a good mix of bass and treble. I was shocked when the bass was strong enough to show me that the surface I put the speaker on wasn't level and the bass caused it to rock and fall over :-) Shockingly good sound comes out of this little speaker! Definitely good for a small room - very very FULL sound, crisp, clean, without being overly bassy. Worth checking out if you're looking for something that puts out good sound and is portable (20 hours play time on battery)

I'm using this speaker primarily to stream music from my Android at job sites / outdoors. In the box you have the speaker, a carry strap, and USB-C cable. Setup is attach strap to the knobs on either side of the speaker and turn it on. My phone quickly found the speaker and bluetooth pairing was seamless. The first thing you will notice is that this speaker feels solid, it isn't the lightest portable speaker, but I have no concerns with knocking it over, or with using the carry strap to hang it from. The battery life has lived up to the claims of 20 hours of play time, and I'm using it daily for 10+ hours continuously without issue. The sound quality is above average for this price point. The speaker has volume, bass, and treble adjustments which I found to have enough adjustment that the changes were obvious, good for using when switching between music and voice output. I think the middle ranges are a bit flat, but the base is apparent and am able to hear this over the tools and noise while working. Overall I'm a huge fan of this speaker, it provides a well built portable package that can withstand the elements of a jobsite. It does boast a water resistant design, and while I haven't fully tested this, I did get caught in a rainstorm and the speaker continued to perform as expected.

Let me start off by saying everything about the Stockwell 2 is top notch. From the packaging to the solid feel of the speaker and the dials etc to the carrying handle. Charging is easy via the USB-C port and the charging life indicator is easy to read and is a nice graduated line. Pairing is also easy with the touch of a button. The sound emanates from the front and back and is “multi-directional” and there are three old school dials (which is a nice touch) on the top for volume, bass and treble respectively. Once paired here is where the Stockwell 2 really shines. The sound is fantastic for a speaker this size, Bass is deep, the highs are crisp, the speaker doesn’t sound muddy at all and even at full volume has absolutely no distortion. The Stockwell 2 is also IPX4 water resistant and the battery lasts just over 20 hours on a full charge. Ok, so what makes it less than perfect? I for one always look for speakers that I can take a phone call on, more and more are leaving this feature and Marshall with the Stockwell 2 is no exception, there is no ability to make a speakerphone call. Other than that this speaker for the size in my opinion cannot be beat. Don’t hesitate, for music playback it’s tough to beat. If you need it for phone calls as well, then it’s not for you.

Overall I'm impressed by the build, look and sound of the Stockwell II portable speaker. Looks like an old school AMP with actual working nobs for volume, bass and treble, allowing for an app free configuration of the sound stage. I just enjoy the aesthetic. Syncing the speaker with my phone or other Bluetooth audio source was easy. Press a button, and ready to go. Turn on the sound and off you go. I tested watching video, mostly because I want to use this an outdoor speaker for movie nights, and it synced well and sounded great allowing me to enjoy the video sources. I was able to adjust the sound to for my ear to get the right boom from the bass without drowning out the treble. It has an aux jack in so that is a nice touch if you don't have BT device or want to use a cord. The speaker is IPX4 rated, giving it rain protection/splash protection allowing you to take it out to the pool or hanging outside without worry if a sudden rain storm occurs you are out your fancy speaker. It uses USB-C to charge which makes it easy to plug in and the battery have a great life, with an easy to ready indicator to let you know charge level. If you need a speaker give this on a look because it sounds great and better yet, looks cool.

It's all about the bass. Great sound in a portable speaker. It's nice to have real knobs to turn to adjust the volume, treble and bass! Recharges quickly, with red-LED indicator bars. Handy carrying handle, brass hardware for a premium look. The 'BOX' while portable, has some heft to it. This , I believe, allows the rich sounds to be felt and heard from its larger speakers. I had no problem syncing to my Bluetooth touch pad or cellphone. And I can't say this enough, I love the separate volume, bass and treble controls on the top of the speaker. Whether watching a movie or TV show or just chilling by the pool, summer will surely be sounding better this year.

Marshall Stockwell II Portable Bluetooth Speaker This speaker is a nice sounding small portable speaker with an easy carry “leather” and felt strap. The speaker box itself is hard plastic surrounded by a rubber cushion. Something like an Otterbox case. Hopefully the rubber won’t do the same thing as the Otterbox. The speaker contains 2, 1-1/2” full range drivers. One on the front (left speaker) and one on the back (right speaker). It has 1, 2” woofer on the front and 1, 2-1/4” passive radiator on the back. The case is vented but not really ported. The venting seems to be more for the batteries. The power is supplied by a 10.8V 2600mah li-ion battery. The amp is rated at 10 watts for the woofer and 2 x 5 watts for the full range speakers. The controls are very easy to work and function much like you would expect. Volume is off to 10, Bass 0 to 10, Treble 0 to 10, a push button for Bluetooth pairing (Bluetooth connections states multi connection ability) and a good battery indicator. It charges with a USB C cable (supplied) and the use of any of your existing phone chargers, it does not come with the charger. This is normal but with this speaker it is a setback. It has the ability to charge at 12V 3A but finding a phone charger that will do that is hit or mis. If they intend it to be charged at that voltage, they should supply the charger. Using a standard phone charger that is 5V 2.1A it took about 12 hours to charge the battery. Next to the USB C charging port is a 3.5mm input jack for Aux input. The stated battery life is 20 hours. Running the speaker for 4 hours at high level only moved the battery indication down 1 of the 10 lights. The speaker is IPX4 water resistant. Do not use it next to the pool. I wouldn’t even take it to the beach for fear of sand getting in the cabinet. It will take a small splash but not much else. With that said it would look great on your desk and give you great sound with easy to use controls. Overall this speaker has the looks of an old guitar amp, just smaller. I can see it being a good fit on an office desk with plenty of volume for the occasional office get together.

The Marshall Stockwell II is a unique and awesome portable speaker. I say unique because of its cool design. Most portable speakers seem to go with either a long square or round soda can shape. This one is more box like and relatively thin design. But don't let the design discourage you. It is still fairly small & portable and really has amazing sound. I love the rugged, rubber like case. It really feels like it is built to last. And I always prefer to have traditional dials instead of hard to find buttons for the controls. Battery life is rated at 20+ hours and it gives all of that and then some. Connecting with bluetooth to my phone was straight forward and easy. Most of all, the sound is incredible! I was expecting it to lack in the bass department because of the design but was I ever wrong. Deep clean bass and clear high tones (even at max volume) make this a real winner. I can honestly say from owning a few portable speakers that the Marshall line are clearly the best in balancing design, build quality, sound and price.

As a music fan I've always loved the design of the Marshall speakers and recognize the great sound that they always produce. I was excited to get this new Stockwell II to use outside, at the beach, BBQ's etc. While I wanted it for it's portability, I have been using it around the house more when I don't need my whole home wireless system. The design of the speaker is simple, sturdy and practical. Like the Marshall amp's that the Stockwell II draws its design inspiration from, there are separate knobs to control volume, treble and bass. I am tired of downloading a new app every time I set up a new product just to adjust the sound so I love having the bass and treble right there on the speaker. Pairing the speaker to my iPhone took all of 5 seconds and I was ready to go. The battery was at about 90% when I got it and there is a handy battery meter at the top of the speaker next to the controls which is a great addition. Sounds comes from both sides of the speaker and sounds great at all volumes. I have been impressed by the details int he sound and at high volumes can hear it throughout my home. The sound is rich and clear and does not get distorted at high volumes. The speaker is very sturdy and has some real weight to it for something so small. It has a really sturdy handle that attaches like a guitar strap which makes it easy to carry around but also to hang it somewhere outside. It also charges via an included USB-C cable, not micro-usb which is a nice touch as many of my devices now connect this way. The battery life has been fantastic so far, I'm not worried about this every going dead on me. Great job on this one Marshall!

Unpackaging was a breeze, it comes in a box with formed cardboard packaging. Along with the speaker that is wrapped in a disposable clothlike bag, there is a USB C-type charge plug that fits into the right hand side of the speaker, a beefy carry handle that can be attached if you choose and the quick start user guide. Looking straight at the Stockwell it has the silver metal mesh cover, with the famous Marshall on top of it. The sides have 2 gold knobs that will hold the handle. The back of the speaker has the same metal mesh, however its black in color. On top, from left tom right are; power indicator which is red when on, the bluetooth connect, just depress for a second to connect, next are the analog volume, bass and treble knobs that go from 0-10, and last is the power indicator bar that also illuminstes the status in red. When I turned the speaker on I was blown away by the sound, at aprx 8"hx6"w this puppy gets almost as loud as my Kilburn II, it's older cousin who is about three times larger. I had the Stockwell II bass set to 5 and the treble at 7 with the volume on 10, playing Pieces of a Dream, Loves Sillohuet. The Bass was vibrating the speaker as it sat on my lap. Again not as loud as my Kilburn but the bass is much richer on the Stockwell. The speakers sound is multi-directional, IP4 water resistant and it is bluetooth 5.0 design. There is no enclosed aux cable and you can't answer calls.

I had it out of the box, paired with my phone, and playing Hugo Winterhalter’s Canadian Sunset on Youtube in less than 60 seconds. I carried it around the room with the included strap attached and took the music everywhere. Although it is not a stereo unit, audio is played out of both sides of the unit. This will have a home in my garage where I will use it with my satellite radio receiver. The package includes a USB-C cable for charging, but there is no AC adapter, so you will need to buy one of those if you don’t already have a half-dozen by now. There is also a mini-plug jack for a wired connection to an audio source. Out of the box, the unit’s battery was almost completely charged, so I was up and playing songs with no delay. The box claims 20 hours of play time after a full charge. In summary, I am very impressed with this speaker. The sound is strong and deep (bass and treble controls are included). This is the second Marshall product I’ve had experience with (the first being a pair of headphones), and I have been thoroughly impressed with the quality of construction and the sound with both. Highly recommended.

I got the Marshall Stockwell II portable speaker because of the cool factor. I'm not a musician but do want to channel my inner rock God and I have been to more than my fair share of concerts with a stack of Marshall Amps in the background. Pairing was easy, there's a dedicated pairing button although it does make a weird sound when it connects. It kinda sounds like the feedback you get when you plug a guitar into an AMP but not exactly. So guessing it's a feature. Sound is really good and I didn't experience any distortion. The Marshall Stockwell II has front and rear speakers, which enhances the overall quality of playback. The dedicated bass and treble dials are a nice touch, but not really something I need as at mid setting I found all of my music sounded as rich as I would like. Things to LOVE the Marshall Stockwell II charges via USB C. It's great see support for USB C growing on electronics. A cool feature is that you can also charge your phone from the USB C connection (provided you have the right cable). Included in the box is a quality leather strap that you attach to the brass screws to make the Marshall Stockwell II portable. The speaker has some weight to it, so the leather strap matters although it does rotate fully behind the speaker so on a shelf you still get clean lines. The Marshall Stockwell II is IPX4 rated, so it will survive a splash of water but it's not the sort of speaker you'd take to your summer pool party. My only suggestion (and it's trivial) is that the battery indicator on the top is easier to read if you're looking at the Marshall Stockwell II from a top view. From an angle, it's hard to see the exact battery level - but that's a really minor issue and is no reason not to go out and buy the Marshall Stockwell II yourself. I'm super happy.
