Setup is easy by just linking your Facebook account with the Facebook Portal+ The touch screen on the Facebook Portal+ is a 14 inch HD Screen that looks great. When set up to display the photos on your Facebook account it’s a nice digital picture frame that can change the picture displayed at the interval you choose. I put the Facebook Portal+ in our Kitchen on the counter which is a convenient place to be able to see the pics displayed and to use for video calls. My main reason for having the Facebook Portal+ is the video conferencing feature. With an adult child out of the house and me traveling quite a bit for business it’s a great tool to use for keeping the family in touch. Video calls can be made with Messenger, Whats App or Zoom, which is convenient for both work and play. Initiating calls is simple to do by just choosing the contact you want to video chat with and initiating the call. The 14 inch screen is the perfect size to see who you are talking to and the video that is broadcast from the on board camera is gorgeous. With the Smart Camera and Smart Sound features of the Facebook Portal+ the camera follows you around the room panning and zooming when needed and also widening if a few people are chatting in the frame, I find it works pretty flawlessly. The Smart Sound feature enhances the voice of whomever is speaking so there is no problem with the party you are video chatting with hearing every word said. For privacy, both the camera and mic are easily disabled so “Big Brother” can’t hear what you are saying when not using the Facebook Portal+ if you choose. Alexa is built in as well as utilizing the Facebook Portal+ wake up phrase “Hey Portal” to check weather, ask for a song to be played from Spotify etc. There is a limited selection of Apps and I wish there was more of a choice which will hopefully be coming in the future. For example I’d love to have a weather app that displayed detailed weather on the screen. Overall, as a communication hub you cant get an easier to use appliance, with more apps it’s a 5 star rating for me.

14" Portal Touch Screen with Speakers

The Facebook Portal+ was very easy to set up and use. The picture quality is clear, and the speaker is just okay. The speaker works fine for video chats but I would not recommend for loud music playing. While you can play music from Pandora or Spotify on the portal, the speaker quality is not great at loud volumes. The Smart Camera is a cool feature while on a video chat. The camera follows you if you are moving throughout the room while on a video chat. The camera will also zoom in on you if you are at a far distance from the portal. I also like the integrated camera cover with privacy mode. You can clearly identify when the camera is in use with the light indicator. You are also able to turn off the speaker when not in use, but you would not be able to use the voice commands if the speaker is off. While the portal is not in use for video chats, I have it sitting on the counter as a photo frame. You can choose different albums to display from facebook or instagram. You can also download the portal app on your cell phone and select photos from your camera roll that you want to display on the portal. I wish there was another app or email feature that friends and family can send directly TO the portal to be displayed (with permission). This portal is so easy to use that I will buy another to gift to my parents. They love seeing family photos and do not have photos on their Facebook accounts. The built in speaker is loud enough for them to hear on video chats without having to hook up a separate Bluetooth speaker. The downfall of this portal+ is that it always has to be plugged in to use. It’s easy enough to unplug and move to a different location, if needed. Once the portal is plugged in again, it takes just a minute to start up and begin using and all apps are still saved. I think it’s great that more apps will become available but in the meantime, there is also a web browser to use (Facebook and YouTube just to name a couple). I think the portal could be great with a few updates (listed above). It does just about anything a tablet can do and is more affordable and has a quality screen resolution.

The set up of this device was very easy. It quickly and easily syncs with your Facebook account. There are a few apps that you can download and use with the device such as Zoom. It allows you to make video calls using Facebook Messenger. It also has a photo book feature where it scrolls various photos. In addition to your Facebook photos it has an app that you download and from that you can send photos from your phone to the device. Stream music from Amazon Music. Can connect Alexa. Love it

Facebook Portal+ is a very excellent way to talk to family and friends. Whether it's a call to granny or a meeting for work, the integrated Zoom app is perfect for getting it done. I love that the camera track faces and adjusts automatically to your movement. The audio quality is very excellent. And using Spotify makes it great to listen to music as well. Portal also allows multiple accounts to utilize the call features. And you can also share videos with the watch together feature. My only dislike was the limited apps and the ability to add apps. But I am sure this might get addressed in the future. Portal + is an excellent Christmas gift idea.

Huge Screen Focused on Messenger Video Calls

Let me start off by saying that this thing is specific and focused. Like REALLY focused. This device is awesome at its job, which is enabling Facebook Messenger video calling. It's killing it at that. Having used a Facebook portal camera with my TV previously, this device is enabled with a similar super wide-angle camera (140 Degrees of view!) and it uses its AI to follow you while you use it. That's the most impressive part. The screen is massive and nice and bright/clear. Yet with this massive screen, you'd think that you would be able to do some other tasks... and this is where the portal+ starts to lose stars for me. As a voice assistant, it also falls short. It cannot use the screen to show you things via Alexa and it's not enabled for the screen as a doorbell cam or otherwise. Perhaps most glaring, and this IS an option with the portal camera tv device, you cannot add apps to it. The huge gorgeous screen is only for Facebook messenger calls. So that leaves me asking, who is this for? I would consider getting my grandmother one, she would love it. Also, I'm not sure the price of the portal+ is in the range of "casually leave setup at grandma's house"... but then again everyone's budget for that is different. While you'll be able to use it for that, and even for some zoom calls, you cannot scroll your Facebook feed on it. I loved the ability to follow me, the screen being able to rotate from portrait to landscape, the camera privacy cover, and the decent sound from the built-in speakers. I didn't care for the two voice prompts; Alexa and Portal for different things, and the downright hobbling of the device's ability to do other things. Overall this is decently made, but at the price point, you could have a device that can also do other things, if you're interested in that. I would recommend it for your parents/grandma if they are avid Facebook users, but that's a narrow target market.

So I have seen the commercials with the muppets last year... and starting to see the family commercials this year... so it was about time to try it. This is a very high quality device, that does a fair amount now... but the only knock is that it really needs to a bit more. Setup was extremely simple, but I recommend that you do it with a laptop near by or next to your computer. As you will need to go to several websites (including Facebook), to pair and sync up account settings. After that initial setup, you can move it to your prime location. The Screen is BEAUTIFUL. probably one of the clearest tablets that I have seen in a while, high resolution, and big. I love using it as a digital photo screen, when not using it for some of it's other functions. The AUDIO.. You are going to be really surprised, deep and clear. and can get pretty loud. I was listening to Amazon Music, and it was very enjoyable. You can also sync in Pandora and IHeartRadio (and others). So I was a little disappointed that I didn't have direct Facebook access, unless I went through the web browser (same with IG). but you can still get to them through the web-browser built in Utilizing the video calling feature... that is pretty nice... and is only going to get better as more people get the matching device. Most of my contacts are utilizing their phones to use the Facebook Messenger. So it was easy to use, great sound. The camera is great, and my friends on the other side said I was clear as a bell. The build in Alexa integration is great... works just like any other Alexa. So where I hope this goes: I am looking forward to future integrations with other communication and workspace platforms, that will allow me to use this for work calls and other things. - Support for popular APPS (and not through the website) for Netflix, Paramount, Hulu, and others... so I can enjoy streaming video an streams from those services. - True full Facebook app support, not just through the web portal. use the full screen, and even maybe a customized experience on the screen. - Integration with Nest, so that I can an alert when the doorbell rings, and can see the video right away.. Great step forward... Oh tip.. the volume control is PHYSICAL on the back right corner, it took me a while to find it... as I was expecting it to be a digital tap control on the screen.

The Facebook Portal+ was something I was iffy about. It seems that every major company is getting in on the conference calling feature and post pandemic way of life and it’s a rat-race to who can accommodate that need better now that work and social interactions are now more commonly done at home. It really lacks in features. If it’s going to sit in my kitchen, it needs to have a purpose as I have limited counter-space. I can’t be upset at the lack of entertainment when this was originally aimed at social media and communications since Facebook is a social media conglomerate consisting of Instagram, WhatsApp, and Oculus etc. so much entertainment on these platforms and this device was lacking just that. I made a couple of calls and the clarity was amazing. I have to give it to them, the follow feature on the camera was really great especially when I was in the kitchen and talking to my friends while cooking. The sound blew me away. Such a small speaker enclosure but it can really put out some vibrations. It was crystal clear and I use it to stream my Spotify. This was a bonus! Privacy with these kinds of things are a big issue with Me. I really find it fascinating, albeit simple, that you can slide the camera closed. Something every user should have on their devices is a privacy cover, hands down. Small detail, big points. Would I buy this just to make calls, no. You could browse the internet but can’t watch popular streaming platforms on what looks like a futuristic tablet, that’s a bummer. It was made for this and it would be such a seller if they expanded their app market. I know it’s not a tablet but a couple more features wouldn’t hurt.

The Facebook Portal + is a nice device for video conferring. It works with Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, Zoom, GoToMeeting, WebEx, and a few others. Microsoft Teams is supposed to come in December. When setting up your device you have the option of using Facebook or WhatsApp. Since I would use WhatsApp more often than Facebook for video calling, I opted for WhatsApp. Video quality is good. I was able to hear and see others on the call, and they said they could hear and see me with no problems. The camera follows me around like the Center Stage feature on some of the iPad models. I had the impression that I could only use Facebook and Messenger with this device. I was surprised to see the support of so many 3rd party apps. It has Alexa support built in, so adding my Alexa account was easy. I was able to ask questions and ask it to show my security cameras and doorbell camera. You can also play music. It supports 3rd party apps such as Spotify, Pandora, and iHeart Radio. I added my Spotify account to listen to music on it. The speakers sound really good. It has a decent amount of bass, and the speakers can get fairly loud when you crank up the volume. I was able to Play, Fast Forward, and Rewind tracks on Spotify. There’s no slider, so I was not able to move to different parts of the song while it was playing. The device will go into sleep mode when the lights are turned off in the room. It will change to a night clock. There were times when the clock did not show up. When I swiped down from the top of the screen, the clock would show. I’m not sure how well this would do in a bedroom while you’re sleeping because the screen has a lot of backlighting. The UI is easy to navigate and is fast and responsive. There’s no app for YouTube, but you can use the built in Web Browser to visit YouTube to watch videos. The Web Browser is kind of slow, so I’m not sure if I would use it too much. Overall, it’s a good device. If support for 3rd party apps grow, this will definitely be a device to have.

I had a ball with this on Facebook with my kids and grandkids and all the funny little functions that it has for the background. I love the fact that I can have all of us on at the same time and it has a really nice and clear picture! It's weird how I never thought I would like something as simple as this as much as I do! I also like the fact that when I'm cooking I can play the Pandora app and listen to music until I'm finished and I can also show whoever I'm talking to on Facebook what I'm doing. I definitely would recommend this to anyone who loves doing group chats while at home, and you don't necessarily have to have an iPhone.

As an owner of the previous model of Facebook portal, in which I have the 8' inch model. I can say that Facebook has significantly improved this product as this one provides a much larger screen for viewing at 14' inches. As a person who does lots of Zoom calls mainly for business reasons, I cannot wait to incorporate this portal into action. I like the fact that this model is independent in so much that the other party does not need to have a portal in order to communicate. Needless to say, with the holidays being here this portal will come in handy when chatting with friends, family, business associates and blend of everybody!

I expected more. This is basically a video chat with a bigger screen than your phone. Needs to be plugged in so you have to set it and video chat from one location. Most tablets do the same thing but you can carry them around with you, this product does however detect others in the camera's field of view and focuses on who is talking. Picture quality and sound quality are good, but the entire unit feels cheap. It does very well for video chats, but we found that we still use our phones or tablets unless we happen to be in the room with this unit. Even then, not being able move it around from room to room during a chat is a downer. If you like to chat in one place and have a nice big screen to do it on, this may be for you, but if you value flexibility and versatility in your home electronics, this may not fit the bill.
