If This Is A Demo, It's Arguably The Biggest Ever

To start with, I highly disagree with people classifying this as a short demo, or saying it is horribly overpriced. It took me over 3 hours to complete the central mission, and I spent over 3 more hours completing the other missions included. There is no way you can tell me how much I feel I should have paid, and in this case, I'm buying what Konami is selling. This is too long and too big to be a demo, clearly too well produced to be free, and too good to feel upset by the pricing. The game is a slick reincarnation of the Metal Gear Solid franchise, so while it will look familiar to fans, it has never been more fluid or freeing to experience. The moody mission leaves you dropped off at a open world base resembling Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and you have two targets to get out of there alive. That's it. Unlike most games or even most open-world games, this mission is yours as you imagine the returning spy lead, Snake, would handle it. No tight mission parameters like Assassin's Creed where you can't wander, no closed areas of the base or trapping story sequences. You get in, get the targets, get a few doses of sleek cutscenes (all remarkably shorter than the infamous MGS IV cutscenes) and you move on to the side missions. It is an intense and fantastic spy game that rewards stealth. I get that the price of what is definitely not a full game is too high for many, but in this case, there is value and replay-ability that negates the ludicrous claims of this being a demo worth no money at this stage before the full MGS V experience. If you are curious and the idea of getting a shorter experience of brilliance at a price intended to match it, you are in for a treat. The catch is, this is just the first lick of next year's cake.

MGS V Ground Zeroes is the prologue to THE BIG ONE: MGSV The Phantom Pain. The game takes place after Peace Walker and nine years before The Phantom Pain. you play the whole game in only one specific area, which fortunately is a HUGE base and it lets you get a feel for how big missions will play out, but with The Phantom Pain having full on open world gameplay and being reportedly 200x bigger, you only get the tiniest fraction of the full MGS V experience. After a few runs through the short main campaign (which takes two hours or less on average length, & after a few runs I beat it in 20 mins) and trekking through the side missions, being in that base gets repetitive quick because you've figured it all out by then. The only thing that'll make you want to come back are trophies or a spot on those leaderboards for fast runs. You can tell that Konami tried to make feel like it's more than a demo, but all-in-all there's no denying that it is. For my $30 I wanted so much more, and for less than $30 I've gotten full games from big name companies and developers like Rockstar Games (example: Red Dead Redemption Undead Nightmare) but I am somewhat glad they let us try the game out before we get our hands on The Phantom Pain, however this is not worth the $30 you would have to shell out for it. MGS Fans have a lot to get excited about, but there's just not much here for everyone else. From a gameplay standpoint, I can only recommend The Phantom Pain because that is the full vision of this game, if you're interested in the hard to follow story, then you must be an MGS fan...if GZ was a free demo for all, hell even $5 for pre-ordering The Phantom Pain, then that would be GLORIOUS!!! but as it stands now, I cannot recommend Ground Zeroes to my fellow gamers, only to the diehard MGS fans out there.

Metal Gear is back, and Big Boss has never looked better! Ground Zeroes is the prologue to Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain, due out possibly in late 2014 or early 2015. It takes place a couple of years after the events in "Peace Walker". You play as Big Boss (a.k.a Snake) , an ex war hero turned mercenary. Your objective is to infiltrate Camp Omega and rescue Chico and Paz. (Two returning characters from Peace Walker] *This is the basic premise of Ground Zeroes* The first thing you will notice immediately, is how beautiful the game looks. (PS4 version) Running at a smooth frame rate at 1080P, really shows off the "Fox Engine's" capabilities. Everything from the weather and rain effects, to the lens flare from a search light, help make this new installment truly shine. The controls have also been modified from previous Metal Gears. Combat and movement feel intuitive and smooth. I particularly enjoyed the new sprint mechanic. It definitely helps you reach cover or cross open areas much faster. It also gives you a real sense of weight to the character. Veteran and new players alike will have little to no issues with the control scheme. The only downside to this experience is that it all ends too soon. Only a small slice of pie has been cut here. It tastes great so far...but may not be enough for those on an empty stomach! Ok, that's enough food references. Ground Zeroes offers a handful of side missions in addition to the main story. So in order to finish everything, it could take up to 8 hours or so. Bottom line: great for Metal Gear fans looking to get their hands on what's to come. I am definitely excited for the Phantom Pain.

If you're not a DIE-HARD MGS fan, don't bother buying this at all, this game is meant to serve as a preview into the world that Hideo Kojima will be introducing into Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. There is really only one mission in the game that serves as story line content (For those that play for story content), and this level can be beat in 30 minutes if you are quick to figure out how to play and get around in the level that you're dropped into. I'm not harping on this release of MGS at all. Quite contrary, I like it! I like the bonus missions that you can get from finding all the hidden things within the level. I especially liked the Raiden level... Unfortunately I never got to experience 'Revengence', and I think that Raiden's cyborg ninja suit is so BAMF Style. It's an okay pick-up for those familiar with MGS as long as they go into it knowing that this is merely just a demo/introduction of what's to come. I'd say pick it up if it's $20.00 or less, and don't pay beyond that. For those that have never played a Metal Gear Solid game ever, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DON'T BUY THIS GAME!!! I wouldn't want this small demo'ing product to give the wrong impression to those of you out there that have never played a MGS game before, and I implore you to either go and play some of the older games if you can get a hold of some of them, or to just wait until MGS V The Phantom Pain Releases.

I bought it, and beat it in exactly two hours haha. Graphically, it's incredible. Considering how big the camp is, it all looks fantastic, and you can see the rain running down the sides of vehicles, and buildings, people's hair being blown by the wind etc. Gameplay is much more fluid in comparison to MGS4, you have a great sense of control over Big Boss, and you learn how fast you can and can't go when there are enemies about. If you interrogate soldiers, they'll tell you things like the location of an armory, or an admin building. This is important if you want to make it through the game as stealthily as possible. I loved playing it, the only problem really is just the short campaign. $30 is a lot of money for 2 hours of a main campaign. They try and make up for it by giving you a number of extra missions to play and unlock. There's some fun objectives to be completed in the extra missions, and I'm a huge Metal Gear fan, so I've been able to justify my purchase by playing those missions and also trying to improve my mission rank. If you like Metal Gear Solid, and have an itch to play a next gen iteration, than it is worth it. If you are planning to run and gun your way through, you will not enjoy it at all.

The MGS Saga is a story that begins around WW2 , and has been told over several decades. Granted its a complicated and very intricate story, but regardless if you've been playing since the first Metal Gear, or this is your first foray into the series, MGS Ground Zeroes is an excellent way for you to become familar with the Tactical Espionge Genre Hideo Kojima created, There by giving you some time to get ready for the real game.. MGS Phantom Pain!! This is the Story of Naked Snake aka Big Boss. not to be confused with Solid Snake aka Old Snake from MGS 4. (There are Several"Snakes" wiki or Bing MGS for the complete story, there are several books and graphic novels.# MGS jumps around in time, and can be very confusing.. This is by far the Darkest MGS and takes place after MGS 3, And follows the events of MGS Peace Walker. If you played MGS 4#which takes place way later) youll find the controls very familar. This is not an easy game to play..although Stealth is the way to play it, to truly appreciate how amazing the game is, If your the Gun-Ho type who like to Blow isht up, well youll enjoy it too!

This is the game I said to myself would make be cave and buy a PS4! And as such, I did just that on March, 18th! I'm not negative about the price at all. I have so much backlog of games, DVD's, Blu-ray's, and manga's that I should be filling my time with, that having only about three hours on main story play doesn't bother me at all. And if you like Metal Gear, this game delivers everything you could love about the series! I really wanted to get my hands on it, since we're still about a year away from the main game "The Phantom Pain"! It does a very good job of informing you on everything that's happened in Peace Walker, which is the gap story many may not have played from the PlayStation Portable that bridges the gap between Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater and Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain! Especially when you listen to all the cassette tape diary recordings from Paz. I've only beaten the main story once so far on normal and listened to all the tapes, and can say for myself that I got my moneys worth! Otherwise you might have to be at some huge gaming convention and wait hours to play it or something! All in all, I loved it! Believe It!

This game is great and is probably the game that fully utilizes the PS4 power (other than second son). Gameplay mechanics are excellent. It is free world play (pseudo) so you can choose how to tackle your missions. First time playing through I finished the main mission in 25 minutes (but I knew the ins and outs of the game because I read about it prior to getting it). Side missions are fun, but all take place in the same setting as the main mission. The cinematics at the end of the game are superb and acts as a great lead into the next MGS game! Also, you get a code to get bonus stuff for the next MGS game, so if you are a fan... GET IT!! Also, if you have an ANDROID phone or IPHONE, you can pair the phone up and use ur phone as the RADAR.. it is awesome and also the reason why I bought a note 3 with this game because I wanted the big screen!!!

Yes the game is short as you spend the entire game playing the same area over again. But don't let the singularity of the play area come in the way of your enjoyment of the game. Once you finish the main mission, which should take about an hour and thirty minutes, you unlock several side missions. Each side mission can take about 30 to 45 minutes to complete, depending on how you play them. Stealthy and slow, the longer the missions will take. Guns blazing and the missions might be over sooner than expected. After finishing the main game and two side missions I'm still only at 11% completion. For those that want to get 100% there should be at least 10 hours of gaming time to hold you over, if not more. For PS4 owners I say give the game a try. For $29.99 you should get just enough enjoyment to not feel burnt like you would paying $59.99 for a new game.

I had a blast with this game. I think it was worth every penny I spent for it. But listen to the detractors as well. They are displeased with the game because the main mission can be completed very quickly. I completed it within two and a half hours on my first run. My fastest time is under 20 minutes. But mind you that is not the full game, just the main mission. The game also comes with five other missions. These missions offer a variety of play styles and unique scenarios in the same battlespace. By the time I was done completing every mission within the game I put in over 12 hours. Although not long compared to games like GTA V, Witcher, or Skyrim, it is around the average length for more linear games like The Last of Us (10hrs), Uncharted (5hrs), and previous MGS games. For 20 dollars at the time, you get your money's worth.

The game was designed for current gen (ps4/XB1) and previous gen (PS3/XB360) in mind. Therefore the graphics are not as good as hoped. I purchased it on PS4 as my wife purchased me the system as a surprise and I felt that I needed to go ahead a buy a game I would actually play. I would have purchased this game on PS3 and it seems like I should have. I would have received the same enjoyment out of the game and the graphics would have been up to par with the system. Overall the game is great but it feels like a slimmed down version of the game. Replayability is wonderful for the five missions available. An option for users to create their own content within the game (a la GTA V Online Creator or Tenchu mission editor) would have kept the game from collecting dust after about a week of playing. I cannot wait for the Phantom Pain in 2015.

This is an absolute must-have for Metal Gear fans, and also a great game to pick up for newcomers to the series. Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes, is really just a prequel game that will be leading up to the full, complete game that will be called Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, but overall, it is a very good game in itself, even as a stand alone game. There are lots of extra missions and unlock-able content in the game, and one of the coolest things is that you get to play as the original Snake, from the early Metal Gear games from way back! You can also unlock items for the next Metal Gear game, The Phantom Pain, throughout playing this game. The graphics are great, the story is great (as usual), and the playability and fun-factor is awesome as always. This is one of the games that PS4 fans have been waiting for!

What can be said about Ground Zero that already has not been said before. We know the graphics are top notch and the game play is what we all expect from Kojima Productions studios. For the most part Metal Gear games since the original release of the Metal Gear 2 on the PS2 have had some pretty epic 15 min long trailers leading up to the release of the games them selves. This game feels like one of those epic trailers that you play through in just a few hours, if your taking your sweet time to take in everything the game offers. Once finished I was left only wanting more witch is what you should want from this game more. While I wouldn't recommend paying $30 bucks for it if you haven't followed MG games up till now. But there is a lot of fun to be had and it just might spark some interested into the series.

The ignorant remarks of this game being called a demo is ridiculous. If this game is indeed a demo, then by far it is the best one! The thing is, before the game came out (1-2 months before) the game's creator came out and told everyone how short/long the game will be. Exactly what he said is what was to be expected. Sure enough, that was exactly it. It served as fan service to help the wait for the full game Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. Its stealth gameplay is the best in ANY MGS title, PERIOD! Really fun, I have spent about 20 hours on this game since I got it on launch and STILL not done 100% the game and getting all the trophies! Now add the fact it is only $30 bucks. Lets say if you only played everything ONCE, you are looking at about 2-4 hours of content. Not bad for $30 dollars!!

Okay- I am just upset about how short this game was that I have to rate it low. I did like the graphics and gameplay of this game as it does demonstrate the power of the PS4 but again I felt like it was just a demonstration. I beat this game in like 2 hours tops! I mean really?? I have to pay 30 bucks for this demonstration? They could have like given this away for free for PSN members or sell it for 15 bucks maybe but not $30. I am so annoyed about this I dont think I want to buy anymore metal gear games as I was a huge fan of them in the older days. I dont even enjoy sneaking around all day in a game anyways. This is also a learning experience for me to always do my research before buying any game or I might pay 60 bucks for a 10 hour game one day...*cough* second son *cough* ..geeez....

Game Details MGSV: GZ gives core fans the opportunity to get a taste of the world-class production's unparalleled visual presentation and gameplay before the release of the main game. It also provides an opportunity for gamers who have never played a Kojima Productions game, and veterans alike, to gain familiarity with the radical new game design and unparalleled style of presentation. Everything about this game is great: the story telling, the graphics, the pace––everything. Everything, that is, except for the price and length. This game is really just a glorified demo. It's only real purpose is to show off the game's engine for when "Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain," is actually released. That being said, it just isn't worth the price. Perhaps this would be a great buy when it becomes a bargain deal. But until then... stay away. I'll give it two stars for game-play, storytelling, and graphical content. But the price, and the length, is definitely a deal breaker and it takes what could have been a five-star game, down to two.

I had to quickly remind myself that this wasn't a full game, but more of a extended demo than a full game, just like Grand Turismo Prologue was. This game clearly started to showcase what could be done with next-generation graphics and where things will be go in that respect. As far as game play, its classic Metal Gear with the option to go about it different ways. Sutherland playing snake is rather odd sounding but you get used to it. I recommend this game if you can get it for $15 or less, main story can be accomplished in 2 hours with 5-6 hours included in the side quests. Again, not a full game but a good representation of what is to come with Phantom Pain next year.

If you are a fan of the Metal Gear Solid series, definitely play this game. If you are new to the series, you will have trouble understating the story and forming relationships with established characters. I highly recommend either playing the other games first or reading up on the plot. The graphics are truly next gen and the game play is very realistic. Enemies can hear your footsteps and can see you from far away in daylight. The main story mission can be completed in less than 2 hours, but there a couple of side missions that add more hours to the game. And if you are a competitionist, you can easily add way more hours of game play going for stealth runs and no-kill runs.

For $29, a $5 coupon, and Keifer Sutherland as Big Boss, I had to give it a go. Immediately loved the game and didn't stop playing it until I completed the main prologue. I don't even play games, as I think them to be great time wasters. After playing this game, I am indeed a hypocrite. Only this time it was well worth my time. There's even more to do albeit the main part is over too soon. Completing the game 100% should keep all the fanboys held over until "The Phantom Pain". Go get it!
