This game is incredibly well made, it runs at high framerates all the time and has so many little things to do and see - it's definitely worth the wait. You can play the game stealth or if you want you can go in guns blazing. It gives you choice, although the stealth is infinitely more rewarding. Make no mistake this isn't a Call of Duty military shooter, it's a stealth game through and through. Lots of things to upgrade, online multiplayer and fantastic visuals and voice acting make this a strong contender to game of the year.

An Interesting New Take on a Classic Franchise

I've been a fan of this franchise since Snake Eater, and no, this game is not as good as Snake Eater or Guns of the Patriots. With that said, it breathes new life into the Metal Gear formula, which is much appreciated considering the franchise's future is uncertain. You spend much of your time exploring an open world and taking down enemy outposts to secure resources for upgrades. My biggest complaint is that it takes far too long to develop decent gear (e.g. a sniper rifle with a silencer). So in some ways, the new Metal Gear formula feels similar to Far Cry. Unfortunately, unlike Far Cry, it takes a ridiculous amount of time to acquire the much needed gear to effectively tackle an enemy base. Instead, you're left trying to crawl in unseen and constantly being forced to quickly eliminate the many soldiers that'll spot you. Although I agree that crawling around and quickly shooting alerted enemies is what you do in any Metal Gear game, it quickly becomes frustrating when you're confronted with such a vast environment. Although amassasing an effective arsenal does become tedious, this early tedium is forgiven when you're finally able to conquer this desert landscape.

One of the best games ever made, in terms of play alternatives! Story-wise is also excellent, although a few more detailed cutscenes and Snake dialogues would be better. Recommended!

    great but a bit repetetive

i'll start by saying that overall the game itself has been very enjoyable. plays smoothly and well. the environments look great as do the characters. I've always found the metal gear games to have just too much expository dialogue, long drawn out speeches at moments that pull you out of the game with a lot of over the top acting and just bad writing. thankfully this entry keeps that to a minimum, perhaps too minimum. snakes mostly there as a background decoration, without much interaction if any within the cut scenes. the missions themselves are another point of contention, (SPOILERS AHEAD) they are just a bit too repetitive, the side ops repeat over and over, the location changes but it's the same op. the real issue is with the main game where several of the main missions repeat again at a harder setting. that would be ok if they weren't counting them as new missions, they should have just let you replay the game at a harder setting. overall it's still an enjoyable game with a fun open world. if your looking for a deep well told story, your not really going to get that here, but what you do get should give you hours of fun gameplay.

Best Game in the Entire Franchise

The Metal Gear Solid franchise has always been one of my favorite video game series. The MGS games have always granted the user the freedom to complete missions the way that they see fit. Phantom Pain takes this concept one step further by giving you access to a truly open world. Not only do you have to decide whether you want to sneak your way past enemy soldiers or go in guns blazing, you also have to decide the best way to infiltrate. Each decision has it's own consequences. This game is arguably the best one in the series. The graphics are phenomenal. It deserves the 10/10 rating that it received from most gaming review sites.

In addition to a lot of content, MGS V: TPP is no slouch in the challenge department either. Great for any fans of stealth, open world tactics, and mission based play structure.

This is a great addition to the MGS series. Graphics and game play are better than MGS games of the past. The sandbox style is new to the series and they do a great job with it.

The story and gameplay mechanics are phenomenal. Solid story telling and the ability to build up your "Outer Heaven". Well recommended. The only negative aspect for me is the Online secondary base. I hate when im at a certain spot in the enemies base and either the owner of the base or an ally of theirs comes to defend it amd they load in. It then removes me from my position and puts me on a bridge. They seem to spawn into the location you need to get you and easily take you down. I feel they need to leave you at the location your currently at to make it fair. I dont have all day and week to also be able to defend my own base.

I'm a long time fan of the Metal Gear franchise, having played all of the games except Peace Walker [because I didn't own a PSP]. I haven't gotten too far in the game yet, but what I have played so far is enough for me to recommend this. GET THIS GAME! Even if you have never played any game in this franchise, Metal Gear Solid:The Phantom Pain will surprise you with its gameplay mechanics to its strange storyline set in a very convincing alternate history. You can choose to sneak around or go in guns-ablazing to accomplish each mission. This game challenges you at every corner. Get this game, you won't be disappointed.
