Our Installer Set Us Straight

We were installing a Pioneer radio receiver which had back-up cam capability. Yet the reviews we read for all of the cameras for that radio had quite a few negative comments.
So we decided to go with the rearview mirror back-up cam. And we bought it. When we went to our installer with all of our equipment, he was perplexed at why we bought a radio with back-up cam capability and then we bought a rearview mirror back-up camera. We explained about all of the negative reviews we had seen for all of the brands of cams for our radio. And he said not to pay too much attention to negative reviews. He said he personally had used the Metra back-up cam and it was a great product. He suggested exchanging the two reaview cameras and spend the money we were saving to buy a better radio. So that's what we did.
And boy are we glad! Great price and a great camera. So now I agree with the installer. Too many negative reviewers have some reason for saying what they say besides problems with the product they are bashing.
The price for this camera is very reasonable and it does a perfect job for us as we back up. We just got home a few minutes ago and used it while we were out and we LOVE it.
Thank you to the great Best Buy installers in Gastonia, NC for the great advice on the back-up cam and the radio. You made a believer out of us!

Provides a decent backup image and compatible with a variety of aftermarket touchscreen CarPlay compatible units. Switches on with reverse or can be toggled on for use with a hitch, etc. Wish resolution was a little better but definitely good enough for its purpose.

My life is so much better after having this installed at best buy. It makes me feel confident that I'm not gonna back into anyone or anything. The quality of the camera is great even at night. It helps me parallel park easier too. Definitely buy this backup camera, it automatically turns on when you shift into reverse. My car is a 2003 honda accord coupe v6 so visibility is limited in my blind spots. Cant recommend it enough.

Easy install with a new head unit, plenty of cable for installation in F150. Couldn’t get the lines to curve with turning wheel but most likely because I didn’t take much time with the manual. Camera works well, clear picture, also no audible warnings. Would def buy again

This unit is perfection! Very small camera installs above license plate, wiring runs easily through existing line to hook up to stereo unit. Shows colors that indicates closeness of objects as You back up. Easy to understand. Very clear picture.

Great camera for the price! It is very easy to install and it looks good hidden behind the license plate. I was surprised with the picture clarity along with the visibility it provides at night time. I definitely recommend this backup camera, especially for the price.

For the price, it’s a quality product. Easy install, looks good installed. Picture is pretty good even at night, but the image could be better. If you’re looking for perfect HD clarity, this might disappoint, but I’m perfectly happy with it for the quality for the price.

Works fabulous! Purchased this camera for my boyfriend for his truck. It works great, lights up so you can see where you are going, gives you enough direction, and doesn’t stick out, like some do, where they can snap off if you aren’t careful. Very impressed!

Backup camera was easy to mount with the built in license plate frame. Its perfect for a pickup truck, where the necessary wires are present in the wiring harness for the trailer lights. The power wires for this camera are very small and delicate. Extreme care is needed to get a good connection and weather seal everything that is connected at the back of the vehicle. Picture quality is pretty good in daylight - and fair at night with the reverse lights illuminating the area. The camera comes with colored grid lines to help judge distance - but these can be turned off by cutting one of the really thin wires on the camera end of the cable.

I was reluctant to install on my JK not knowing how bad the offset would be given the license plate on JK is off to the side. I've seen several that mount within the spokes of spare tire for JKs, but I wasn't able to pull that off with my spare tire setup. However, as you can see in attached photo, the offset really isn't that bad with the camera being positioned off to the side. You can still see a hitch ball if installed, and most aftermarket head units have parking guide adjustments that you can tweak to more accurately reflect camera angles like mine that are offset (used with Alpine ILX-W650). I did cut the wire for the built-in grid lines that are generated by the camera by default since my head unit has better ones that are adjustable. Picture is clear and no issues with flickering or graininess. I was able to easily tap into the reverse light by license plate for + and - which left just the RCA video to run to the front. This is super easy in a JK as the trim and carpet easily comes out of the side all the way to front making it quick and easy to run a small cable like the RCA video. Only reason for giving 4 stars is the weld on the camera mount that connects the adjustable "neck" came off from the license plate bracket during install. I was able to fix by running a screw threw the neck into bracket and then into license plate backer and that fixed it. Could be just a weakened weld, but that was my only complaint. For $60, it's a great upgrade that adds peace of mind when backing up.

This is a good product, worked very well in the rain, and video is clear. Paired very well with my stereo, and I am very pleased with the picture resolution. Everything works as if it was factory installed. I drive a van and without this camera backing was challenging now I back up with out wondering if anything is behind me. It also has a feature that allow me to check my rear view without putting the vehicle in reverse.
