They made a new 2D metroid! I'd rather have had it on the Switch, but this is an interesting project, based on an old gameboy game remade. If you still have a 3ds, this is a great game to go out on.

Been playing this for a few days and I've been getting used to the controls but it feels great to play Metroid again. and the 3d is awesome. Super happy I was able to get the SE with CD, Love Metroid.

This is an excellent remake of the game boy original. It has excellent graphics, and requires decent skill to play successfully. I am glad that Nintendo is taking metroid serious again. MUST BUY!!!

I wasn't even aware this game was being remade for the 3DS.I missed the pre-orders and it seemed to be impossible to find on release date.The special edition was out of stock for a while but Best Buy had restocked it on their website soon.With Gamers Discount knocking down $10 I couldn't let it pass by.

Samus Returns is a good game that's on par with the GBA Metroid tittles, but is more linear than classics like Super Metroid. It's still worthwhile for both new and old players.

Metroid: Samus Returns is a remarkable game. The music is memorable, it looks great, and it sounds even better. The gameplay is really fun, and it has possibly the best controls a 2D Metroid game has ever had. For a remake, it had some surprises, the biggest of which was at the end.

It has been far too long since Nintendo released a real Metroid game but I'm happy to say that Samus Returns is worth the wait. While technically a remake of Metroid 2, which came out on the GameBoy, Samus Returns has so much added and changed content, it's basically a brand new game. The game world is also the largest game world of the 2D Metroids, filled with tons of secrets. My only gripe is that so far, I haven't come across any true boss fights. I've hunted plenty of Metroids, which are kinda minibosses but the fights all play out the same, which gets repetitive.

I was very excited to play another Metroid game after years of silence. But I was equally surprised at how much I enjoyed it, within the first few weeks I had played through the game twice, and it keeps making me come back for more. The added bosses and story content they add to this game really helps it feel more substantial, while still not taking away from the atmosphere of Samus on an unfamiliar planet. One of my favorite 3DS games, and definitely worth a play for fans of the series and first timers.

The special edition includes premium packaging, soundtrack and a retro reversible cover. Defenitely worth a purchase for any Metroid Fan.

“Samus Returns” is everything a side-scroller should be. This was a great move by Nintendo, and one of the best games that’s been released on the 3DS family of systems. There is a decent challenge level to it, and I imagine it will have replay value once I beat it. As a sidenote, this game is also the very best use of 3D I’ve seen on the 3DS. I’ve literally not found a single other game besides Majora’s Mask that the 3D was a worthwhile investment in. You won’t go wrong with this game. What a nice love letter by Nintendo for its fans.

Metroid 2 was my favorite game back in 1991(yes I’m old) and this remake has done a great job of keeping true to the original. Like the original you must explore a cavernous planet to hunt and destroy 40 Metroids. Each Metroid encounter is like a mini boss fight. New to the game is the ability to aim in any direction and a melee attack that knocks back enemies and lets you get some extra shots in. It becomes a crucial technique that must be used constantly. If you’ve never played a Metroid game this one is a good one to start with.

Love this. Way more than a remake Metroid 2, it feels like a new game. Kinda hard, too, but loads of fun. Hope they make a Fusion remake!

Never played a metroid game but i've heard great things. Decided to give this one a shot. Great metroidvania which is a given since it is a metroid game. a bit samey but from what I've read that was the same with the old game this was a remake of. Overall great fun with the difficulty for those completionists.

It has been years that I have not played a proper Metroid. this game was a delight and a joy. It can be difficult at times but worth the results. Come and play one of the all time classics from Nintendo!

Awesome game for the 3ds with a great story and gameplay and the special edition does come with the soundtrack.

A great remake of the Gameboy game Metroid II, although it doesn't top the SNES classic Super Metroid.

Believe the hype, because Samus truly is back and boy is it a glorious return to form for the bounty hunter extraordinaire. This is easily one of the best in the series history and, in fact, if I had to rank it among the other 2D entries in the series, I'd say it's right up there along side the legendary Super Metroid. While playing through this game, it was obvious that MercurySteam and the big N put so much love and care into this title. They really captured the feel of a Metroid game, and it shows in all facets of the experience. From the stellar score and the fresh and exciting gameplay, to the immersive and detailed organic backgrounds (with a very impressive 3D effect to top it off), the whole experience just sucks you in, keeping you mesmerized and engaged throughout; it truly feels like you're all alone on this dangerous yet engrossing alien planet. Even the way Samus animates and moves about is done with such style, finesse and polish that it’s just a delight to take control of and really helps solidify her as the badass we knew she always was. All of this coalesces to form a game that not only meets, but in my opinion, exceeds the standards set by the "Metroidvania" genre it helped create. There's a good reason why many games seek to emulate this franchises' style and gameplay, and this game is proof that the grandfather of them all still has what it takes to reign supreme. There's a certain something about this series 2D entries, a certain polish if you will, that lends itself well to it being the epitome of it's namesake genre. I urge anyone who has even an ounce of interest in action-adventure platformers to give this a try--you won't be disappointed.
