SO Happy I Switched to a Windows Phone 8

I'm still blown away that the Nokia Lumia 521 is an entry level Windows Phone 8 device. After suffering through almost four years of clunky, frustrating Android devices from Samsung, LG and Motorola, this is the first phone I've actually loved using. The live tiles are great and the amount of customization finally makes a home screen a true one stop snapshot of my day. The processor is fast and the screen resolution blows anything in the same Android price category off the map. The biggest gripe you hear about WP8 is the lack of Apps. True, there are fewer apps that iPhone and Android users have access to BUT I have been pleasantly surprised at how little of a problem this has been. Sure, there's a ton of Android apps but because the store is unregulated, a large chunk of them are sub-par. I found out I only used about 25% of the apps I had on my previous phone and, of them, I have been able to find the same or similar apps on WP8 for all but a tiny fraction. Ease of set-up is fantastic, the automatic back-up is much more extensive than Android and I was shocked that the Gmail experience on the WP8 is leaps ahead of what it was on the Google OS...odd. The Nokia build quality is impressive, especially at this price point and the Here Navigator that comes resident/free with the phone makes Google Navigator look archaic. Very happy customer here.

I love this phone! Everything on it works, and works well. I was a little scared because of 3 things with this phone #1 there is no flash.... Guess what you don't need it! It must have some technology that lightens the photo or something cause it takes excellent photos and you don't need the flash at all. #2 was moving from android to windows phone.... It was an easy transition... Some apps are not available yet but they are coming out with new ones constantly. So no big deal. And #3 there wasn't a way to hear the alarm unless the volume was up... It's a quiet phone... It doesn't make tons of different crazy noises so it turns out that the phone when turned over on its face won't ring to wake you with a phone call so when the alarm goes off that wakes me and not all the other stuff like emails and phone calls. Now if I want the phone to wake me with a phone call all I have to do is lay it on its back. So my experience has been excellent and I love my new phone and my husband loves his too. Last year we spent 225.00 each on two android phones and they both lasted 1 year... This phone will prob last about the same but we paid only 69.00 each.... Lol get the phone you will love it! Doesn't have a cheap feel at all either.

After my old clamshell phone died I scored this phone for $29 after a price match, it was simply a no brainer to get into a smartphone without breaking the bank. The phone comes stock with a lot of great apps and features such as GPS navigation, voice activation and even a mini version of office so you can manage word docs and spreadsheets. There are also lot's of good apps to download. Even though the camera doesn't have a flash it has settings for night, closeup and so on. With the photo editing apps you can still manage to get some pretty fair shots and video's. I consider my self fairly tech savy but the average person should have no problems navigating the phone and it's features, it's pretty intuitive to use. The only reason I gave it four stars is 1.) battery life, you'll want to have a car charger for sure 2.) no camera flash 3.) mine crashes occasionlly and I need to pull the battery and do a hard restart. I think that even at $79.99 it's a pretty solid phone for those who don't want to spend $300-$500 on the latest-greatest smartphone

Got this for my mom and was amazed that Nokia has been able to offer so many features at such low price..Camera was awesome and the button worked find for me..it's easy to use..emails were setup nicely and Nokia music has a nice collection of songs for free...it has all the apps that I needed and they seem to work faster then iphone....facebook is nicely integrated in the windows OS.. The best part is Here Direction..It is better then my Garmin GPS, period!!! You can download the maps and then this works as a GPS with no data connection needed with turn by turn voice direction and excellent map quality.... I am really not sure what the other reviewer is complaining about as if nothing seemed to work..It cannot be true otherwise this will not be the latest best selling smartphone in US under no contract prepaid category...

I made a daring move coming from Android and trying out Windows Phone for the first time. I was impressed with the overall look of the interface and how it runs, but unimpressed with the lack of well-known apps like instagram, Vine, etc... A simple search provided some pretty good substitues for the apps I looked for immediately after I started using the phone and they work just as well. If you can live with a smaller (but growing) selection of apps and are willing to readjust yourself to a whole different operating system, go for it. I can adjust to whatever they throw at me because that is how I am with any device. However I don't recommend this phone or any Windows Phone to anyone who feels the need for tons of apps.

Bought for my 12-year-old son and he loves it. I appreciate the no-contract plan. Coverage w/ MetroPCS is quite good - I see several bars in areas that my carrier has zero bars. This is a 4G device but not a 4G LTE device (which is faster). One complaint: I added a micro SD card to store his music. I was unsuccessful in mounting the card in the phone as a USB device from a Windows 8 PC. Even when trying an app from the quite limited Windows store, the app would crash repeatedly. Even after mounting the SD card directly in a card reader and copying the MP3's to the card, the phone was unable to find all of the files (and no, it was not because of file type MP3, MP4, WAV, AAC, etc).

I got this phone last week and I wasn't to sure if I made a good choice by picking this phone over Android, It definitely was I have no problem with the touch screen the camera is pretty good for just 5 megapixels. The only problem I have is the back is easy to dirty I play basketball alot and when I get a text I go to it and pick it up and answer the text and when I look on the back it has some dirt, and even if you put the phone on a paper with pen some pen marks go on it, good thing is its very easy to clean just wipe it off with a cloth. Overall I would definitely recommend this phone to anyone even over the overrated IPhone.

The physical build of this Lumia phone looks great and I like the Windows Tile layouts and nice screen... however there were a few issues with the phone. First, the exterior camera launcher did not work...You Tube app did not work with this phone and I could not open Hotmail through the built in Hotmail app, as it states that there is an error. Also, it seems just about every app you get has ad on it...And the selection of Apps is not as good as Android or IOS. I even tried a free music downloader App and yet they still charge per song. The phone has been returned and I am switching to an Android phone.

This Nokia Lumia 521 surpass my expectations, The Windows 8 is amazing, is cool and different, I was tire of android and Apple. As a student I can use One note application and Office for my studies. I love the Xbox integration and the Nokia applications, also the camera button is very convenient to have. The battery life is good, also the sound and the picture quality. This phone helps me to keep up with my daily life.

Overall I'm very happy that I swithed to the Windows phone. I've been pleasantly surprised with the phone. After trying to get use to the phone for the first few days I began to love many things about the phone. If you are use to android phones and you do not have any patients, then I would not suggest the windows phone. If you can deal with a small learning curve for a few days then you would probably enjoy the phone.

Basically; it's a Windows phone. Coming off an Android I found it anti intuitive, difficult to manage and hard to figure out. There aren't many things you can do to customize the experience; it just does what it does. Overall, works fine though, so if you're used to the Windows operating system it'd probably be fine. No flash, no front camera, therefore, no flashlight and no mirror app- very basic.

I switched over from android and wanted to get a windows phone. I didn't want to get an expensive phone, in case I didn't like it. This phone, and the operating system surprised me on how easy and responsive it is. It's a small learning curve, since I was use to the android system but dove right in and making good use of it's streamline functions.

Overall, if you do not need a nice camera than this is the phone for you. The camera is horrible and blurry, which I didn't expect at all. Everything else is nice including the display, battery life, and sound quality. For the money, I might look elsewhere for a phone because a camera is important to me on a phone. This phone is also very limited when it comes to apps and their availability.

Great looking phone just like an iPhone style was very excited to have. as you begin to use this phone you realize it a window user phone and you could open up all different apps. you would need an email set up to do most of your apps opener. Once you get the hang on this phone it is a great phone to have for Business or personal use.

I moved from an android to this windows phone, and everything is so much easier to do, change settings, way more user friendly than android, no questions about it. The down side was not having flash nor a front camera to do self portraits, like my wife and I end having to do when traveling by ourselves.

I wanted a phone for my mom who was going blind. We don't have that much money but she needed a larger screen so I bought her this and she really appreciated the thick font and customization. Overall the phone was great in terms of specs and it exceeded in value.

Overall I am very happy with the call quality, speaker sound, windows navigation and overall use of the phone. It has a great screen size. I just wish it had a flash or the camera was better so I could take pictures in low light like in my house when my young boys do something cute.

This phone is easy to use, has so many great features and tutorials online that show you how to use all the features. The quality is excellent for the price and has a very clear connection when talking on the phone.. I finally have a phone I think I can use to the full potential and know what I am doing.

Love the phone, just the right size, able to surf the net and download app, but the battery life is awful. Only lasts about 1 day without the battery saver on. Plus with the contacts, it is pretty hard to figure out how to put in a new contact, and when you do it is saved to you hotmail account if you have it connected

I love this phone. The only problem I have with it is that most apps are for iphone and android users. Don't worry though, there are plenty other apps that can make your phone awesome to use. You can find alternatives to famous apps you would use on android or iphone.
