    Great accesory for Xbox 360

I just bought this today, and needless to say it is amazing! This product has surely increased my Xbox experience. First off, when you're buying the kit, look for one that has a green tag that says you can get a free month of online play. Some of these have it, others don't. I was lucky and got the last one at my local store with a green tag. If you are looking for the code, it is literally on the other side of the sticker. Once you open the package, look through the plastic and you should find it. It's kind of hard to read, but it's there alright. For those that don't know, this messenger kit provides the chatpad, a wired headset, and if it has the green tag, a month of Xbox LIVE. The chatpad itself was kind of hard to put on, considering I had to jam it in there, but trying to be careful not to damage anything is kind of hard. Once it's on, there is no possible way for it to come of, so don't worry! I bought this mainly for the headset (It's the same one as the default one you get with your Xbox) but for the extra ten bucks to get a chatpad and month of live too was great! This would truly be the golden purchase if it was lowered to around $25 or so. As for doing the typing with the chatpad, it can type pretty fast without having to have any texting skill at all (like me.) Now I prefer to use the text messages to friends instead of voice messages! It even has lights on it, which is really helpful for those weekends where you spend all night playing. The light goes off after awhile, saving you battery juice. It does drain your batteries faster, but I use Microsoft's rechargeable batteries with the charge 'n' go or even the quick charge kit. It can really be a lifesaver! You're probably sick of me babbling on, so overall this was a great purchase and I'm pretty happy with it. I would say this would be amazing if Microsoft had a black messenger kit, to match my controller and my Xbox 360 Elite, such as they had already done for the rechargeable battery packs. Overall, a four out of five stars rating. Good job, Microsoft!

I was pleasently surprised when I heard this was coming out. I expected a 50 dollar price tag and when it finally hit shelves, was shocked to see it at 30 WITH a headset. Headset works better than the other ones, and it is an actal plugin you can use with your computer too if you wanted. At first it looks like you can't fit your hands around the controller like normal, but fear not, it doesn't interfere hardly at all! It has a perfect shape for your hands to fit under. Sometimes I forget it is in while I play games, even though was not using it to msg anyone. The pad itself is flawless, especially once you get used to it. I usually keep it unplugged until I get a msg or two, and it really helps. The biggest thing I wanted this for not only for time saving, was for my other controllers to have a longer lifetime. Now instead of hitting the analog back and forth all the time I can give it a rest so it doesn't get loose or wear out as fast! Anyways this kit is a really good deal! So far it only comes in white though, so anyone with different colored controllers (like those with an Elite or Halo controllers) then you'll just have to mismatch for now!

I was a little skeptical about purchasing this keyboard at first because it didn't, at first glance, seem to be worth the price... I was wrong. Though I do not take advantage of xbox live, I can say that this keyboard is still an amazing addition to my setup! + I love uploading my cds to my hard-drive, but I hated the amount of time it took to name all the tracks and label every song; it took up to ten minutes sometimes just to upload and name a single cd! LAME! Now, with this new little keyboard, it takes three or four minutes tops! + Another thing, though this is just personal preference, I love the bulky feel that it gives the controller, it just looks so cool! It makes your controller look more like some kind of SUPER REMOTE! + A cool feature that has really sold me on this product is the simplicity of use and responsiveness to querries. I have used onboard keyboards like this before and they seem to only respond to button requests when they feel like it. This one responds perfectly! The only okward thing is that when you type quickly on it, the beep that acknowledges the pressed button doesn't always keep up. You'll see what I mean if you get one, not a big annoyance or anything though. Easily looked past after you get comfortable with the controls + One more cool feature about this QWERTY keyboard is that it lights up when you use it! This is really good for gamers like me because I enjoy playing with either no light or very minimal light; it seems to make the graphics better on the darker looking video games! + Anyway, this little gem has pleasantly suprised me and I will probably invest in another! If you use the on-screen keyboard more than none, do yourself a favor and get one of these!

Headset: Easy to hear and for others to hear me. Feels fine to wear for long game sessions. The plug is a normal headset jack instead of the funky shaped one used on the normal Microsoft Headsets with the extra plastic prongs on both sides of the jack. This means you can use it directly in Rock Band instruments or any other device with a headset port. The volume control/mute is on the wire hanging about chest level. Its slightly less convenient then the old style right at your thumbs on the controller. Keypad: Adds minimal weight to the controller but doesnt feel any bulkier while playing. Through normal play you will forget its there very quickly. Text messages are so much quicker now. Before I would type the briefest of messages, skipping entire words and most vowels because typing with a normal controller is a pain. Now I can type full length, properly spelled words quicker than my shorthand messages. I have also found in-game use for the pad. When playing GTA4 I can use the chatpad at the internet cafe and police car computers instead of the onscreen keyboard. This is the only game Ive tried but it was a pleasent surprise. In closing, I was looking for a normal jacked headset for rockband and made the mistake of buying a slightly cheaper headset only. Apon its return I decided to try this package and have never been happier.

I picked up the kit earlier today and so far this has been a fantastic buy. It's a great buy, you get the chat pad & new head set. Installation was a snap (literally) and the whole setup feels really good in your hands, not too big, not too small. The buttons feel really solid when pre press them and the back-lighting is a real treat. I just wraped up a 4 hour GOW session using it and my hands aren't tired at all and that's while using a wireless controller (heavier due to batteries). The back-light stays on for about 4 or 5 seconds whenever you press a button, so it should be pretty easy on your batteries if you have a wireless controller. The Headset is really nice as well.. it has a 2.5mm jack that you can use on a cell phone or cordless phone as well, that's fine multitasking right there! There is a shirt or pocket clip that has the mute and volume one it. My only complaint so far is that there has been a lot of echoing when I'm using the headset.. I'm not sure if its a controller issue or what, I tried the old headset on a different controller and it worked fine.. So I still need to play around with that for a while.. So for now that's the only thing keeping me from giving it a 5 rating.

Another must have accessory for the Xbox 360, makes entering data for texting and redemption codes easier and quicker. Also a great idea to have it attached to the controller, otherwise you would have to put the controller down and hunt for the message pad if it was independent. I don't know if Microsoft reads these review, but I do have a suggestion that I would like to see. Implementing the use of the message pad in various games. A game like Command and Conquer, where the numbers on the message pad can be used to assign various grouping of troops. Assign a group of Zone Troopers to message pad 1, then all you have to do is press #1. Or in games with more spells than buttons on the xbox 360 controller, assign some of those spells to the message pad, so on and so forth. Again, just a suggestion. In closing, another MUST HAVE BUY!

This little keyboard is great to use and fits perfectly in your hands. The fact that you can chat right over your game with or without pausing is also a very nice feature. The backlight make it very easy to read and the buttons depress with a little click so you do not have to constantly look at the chat pad to know your pressing the button. Another great feature about this is it enables you to chat with people who are on your windows live chat buddy list even if their on the PC and not their 360. Finally the fact that it comes with a head set is nice add bonus since the adapter is slightly different on the chat pad then the actual controller. The only complaint I have is that I found myself chatting to my friends allot and distracting me from the game play and also there is not back chat pad to match my controller.

I was sick and tired of using the Dpad for entering codes, searching for movies, typying for social networking programs and decided to get this package with pad and headset. The headset is great quality, thought it to be better than the stand alone headset. The pad was great! It made everything regarding typing SOOOO much easier. It may feel a little clunky at first, but it doesn't take longer than an hour of game play to get used to it. The only thing I do not like is the mute switch in line with the headset. The pad does not have a mute key and that is something that made it easy to switch between mute/unmute with the stand-alone headset.

Pros: Comfortable backlit keys, slightly concave keyboard face is ergonomic, excellent build material, snaps on and does not shake at all, nicer controls on the included new headphones, does not obscure natural grip of gamepad, is as natural and comfortable as any thumbpad can get. Cons: Tight snap-on fit means harder removal or sratched srewholes on the pad from repeated removal, no " key, cannot actually input messages as fast as you type due to a slight lag in the 360 processing the input and letters are often dropped (*but this is a problem on the console's side rather than the chatpad) Bottomline: Essential for anyone who ever uses the Live Messenger functions on the 360. Highly recommended.

I bought this solely for the keypad, which unfortunately isn't standalone. I constantly travel to my friends' houses, and it really helps recovering your Gamertag because your keystrokes aren't shown on the TV screen. It also helps a lot when writing text messages. The keypad is comfortable, illuminated, and designed well. It also has a plug for your mic, so you can have both the headset and keypad plugged in at the same time. The headset however is horrible. It has poor quality, it's irritating, and fragile. I wish the keypad could be a standalone accessory. Regardless, this is a great value.

The main reason I bought this product was because I needed a headset. For only $10 more I get a headset and the messenger kit, thought it was a good deal. I have nothing against the messenger kit. This tiny keyboard is nifty little toy to have for your Xbox 360, but the fact that you can only use the headset that comes with it is one of the biggest problems. When I used the headset I had a lot of complaints from other players online saying that they are hearing major echo from the headset. Also the volume control is located on the wire itself which is a big problem because its hard to locate half the time. If you plan on buying the messenger kit for a headset, I highly recommend not too.

I don't know what everyone says about the easiness of putting the keypad into the controller, cause I've had a difficult time. I never seem to get it in easily, even though the keypad part clicks on the handle part of the controller, it just doesn't click into the headphone plug. Other than that, it's a great thing. You get a headset with it, and for $10 more it's a great price. Especially since it's a pain to try and type out a message without it. It still has a plug in for the headset on the bottom of the keypad so it doesn't eliminate the option to still communicate over the headset with it (so you don't have to take it off whenever you play online).

I bought this product because of a site I work for, I have to constantly type in messages and gamertags, and this made it so much easier. The buttons are easy to press and big enough that you don't press more than one. The secondary buttons are easy to understand and color coded so you can't mess up symbols. The backlight is awesome, it kind of fades off to the sides, but is still bright enough to see all the keys. My only problem was with the headset, it broke in like a week, and the old headset doesn't work with the kit, so I either have to buy another headset (my fourth) or just use the messenger kit and my headset at different times.

The chat pad is AWESOME. i used to always have to send messages to my friends, and it always took 5 minutes just to type everything in but now with the chat pad, it only takes less than a minute to send messages. it is also helpful for facebook, twitter, bing, and netflex. And most people say that with the headphones it always break. i still have mine because what i do is, when im done using them, i firmly put them in a small box and then put it in my drawer so it never brakes.

Very well made and thoughful product. Have had this for almosr 1 year and still works like new. The backlit keys are a great idea since I mostly play at night with low lighting. No need to ever use the onscreen keyboard ever again. The only bad thing I can think of is it is a bit heavy when added to the controller and I could see little kids not liking it attched all the time. But it is very well made and would rather have the added weight than a cheap plastic piece of garbage. When installed on the controller it is very ergo. placed. Highly recommend if you use xbox live and chat alot.

I dont know what happened to microsoft but ever since they moved away from the proprietary headset from the whitw xbox360 the headsets have been garbage. I bought this to replace one that i used for about a week before the 2.5mm jack snapped off in my controller. Then i had to do an exchange as the one I bought had a bad mic switch. I like the keypad though, even though its worthless for shooters because for some reason, when the chatpad is on you cannot hold down the A or B button. They only work as momentary switches. I tried 3 different controllers, all the same.

It comes with a wired headset so your paying ten bucks for a small qwerty keyboard when you can just send a voice message. When you don't want it to be that personal the keyboard is perfect. When you connect it to your controller it almost feels like it won't fit, and is somewhat hard to put on, but when it is connected it fits like a glove and since there is still a headphone jack through the keyboard you don't have to take it off. It is easy to use with almost each button having three functions including English and Spanish punctuation marks, and separate numbers buttons.

The chatpad is light and comfortable to the feel. The keys are backlit, and you can actually see them in the dark. There is an interactive friends icon on the keyboard that allows you to chat with a friend while playing a game, and does not bring up the larger messemger/chat blade. A smaller window pops up and allows the user to easily chat without pausing a game. This is one of the better accessories Microsoft has released, as long as you use text/MSN feature of the Xbox 360. I picked one up for the whole family!

Purchased Item in store, great item well worth the 29.99. Also Great for the guys with BIG HANDS and the controller seems a bit small, this adds some size to the hand grips. Husband liked the feel of it, and myself, You really can't even tell it's there while playing. Messaging is much faster, and more accurate. Back Lite is great for playing in dim to no light. Overall a great item, however it doesn't work well with the gel skins, but those can be trimmed so that it fits around the keypad.
