I literally wore out my previous MS wireless keyboard. Everything worked so well with it. My occupation is a software programmer, so I live by the keyboard. This new keyboard has a great touch on the keys, and the slight rounded keyboard shape works very well. I'm getting used to the new placement on the keys, but that will take some time. I'm OK with that. Connecting it to my computer was a non-event. It just worked, first time, every time. Simple setup. What baffles me on 2 items is as follows: 1) I use the Escape key a LOT, and for some reason, the Escape key is a little bit "indented/lowered" that you have to actually look at to press. It's not anywhere close to the height of the rest of the keys, and is located towards the top of the keyboard with the function keys. Even outside of programming, the entire Microsoft Office Suite uses the Escape key. I still can't understand why they did this. I originally bought the Logitech Wave keyboard, and I really like the keyboard layout, EXCEPT for the "wave". I tried it for 2 weeks, and I just couldn't quite get it to work for me, speed-wise. So, I traded it in for this Microsoft keyboard. 2) The mouse that comes with this keyboard is mostly OK, except for one almost-fatal flaw. When in a web page, and you want to go Back to the previous page, there is a "Back" button for that. BUTTTTTT..... You have to lift your hand and move it up to reach the Back button!!! I swear that nobody that actually had to get some serious work done, test-drove this mouse before it was released to production. Or, they moved the mouse pointer up to the Back web-page button. I'm still trying to get used to it, and I don't know if I'll get there. Right now, I'm thinking I'll swap it out if I can find something to work off the same USB transceiver. Bottom line is that th keyboard is usable, but could easily be better. The mouse is usable, except for the Back button.

    Too Many problems!!

I bought this key board too replace my old Logitech Wave. The Good: Looks nice, quiet keys. Good for someone with small fingers! Now the Bad: keys are small and too close together, used it for a week and my computer would lock up after 5 minutes of non use. Sometimes it would unfreeze after using control-alt-delete, other times a hard reboot. Tried tech support and they and they could not help, kept telling me to restore the system after i explained it is not the computer! Checked on line for similar inquiries and the response was amazing. I'm not the only one having these issues. Seems to be pointed towards Windows 7. After trying different configurations, ie: reinstalled the wave KB, several wired KB's, with software installed and no software, determined this keyboard was part of the problem the other problem windows 7 is funny about wireless KB's I think it might be OEM versions. Settled for the wave KB for now. Until microsoft can make windows 7 and wireless kb's worked happy together i will stick with what I know will work. And the other thing is I waited until after the 30 days now I can't return it. Maybe I will see if this board will work on my wifes computer and if it still does not work in the trash it goes, shame $80.00 down the drain!!!

    Lost time working!

The mouse worked great and the keyboard was awesome for about an hour. I loved the feel of the keyboard and mouse, and the wacky escape key didn't bother me a bit. All of the sudden, as I am typing, I hear clicking noises. I'm trying to meet a deadline so I just ignored it. Then all of the sudden I didn't have full control over my Microsoft Word document. I tried to save it, and couldn't. I tried to exit and couldn't. I lost complete control of the PC (running Windows 7#. At first I thought it was Word creating the problem, but it was my newly installed keyboard and mouse software. I know this because when I uninstalled the software #using system restore after going through a hard shutdown) the problem went away. If my computer was not connected to the web, there were no problems. Everything worked great. The minute I connected to the web, I lost complete control over the PC and had to do hard shut downs. After owning this product for just a few hours I have thrown it across the room and let it break. Why? Because I need technology that is going to let me meet my deadlines for work. I don't have time to lose trouble shooting software issues for a company that doesn't pay me to troubleshoot. I don't have time to repack the items nice and neat into their original box, and then run to the store for my refund. I am using my very old very dirty Logitech wireless with sticky keys instead. At least I can unstick a key from time to time and still meet my deadlines.

    Typical Microsoft bugs

I purchased this desktop set not realizing that is is a brand new line from Microsoft. When i installed it per the instructions on my system with Vista Home Premium (32 bit), I was unable to get the keyboard to function properly. I spent 2 hrs online searching for answers on Microsofts website only to find that there is very little info/support for the 5000 series. I used their troubleshooting guide only to find no answers to my problem. The final step was to install on another computer to verify operation, sorry, I only have one computer in the house so that didn't do me a whole lot of good. I contacted Microsoft support and spent 1.5 hrs on the phone with them, after tech support was unable to find the problem, they transfered me to hardware. While on hold with hardware, our phone connection was dropped. I waited for 1/2 hr for a call back before boxing the equipment to return to the store. Microsoft finally did call me back 1 hr after dropping my call, I informed them I was returning their product to place of purchase becuase I have better things to do with my time then help them fix the bugs in their hardware. Once again, Microsoft has released another product without fully testing it and workig the bugs out, instead they release it and rely on the consumers to be their lab rats...I for one have had enough.

    Very Poor Quality

Purchased this desktop keyboard and mouse from the store. As soon as I opened the package several of the keyboard keys fell out of the box onto the floor. That should of told me something right there. I snapped them back into place and installed the software which went without issue. After installing the software the keyboard seemed to work OK but the blue track mouse arrow jumped all over the screen. I missed close to half the links I clicked on. I tried all types of mouse pads and surfaces but nothing seemed to work. Soon after the return policy at Best Buy expired several of the keyboard keys started to stick down when pressed making this product totally useless. I was able to return this item to Microsoft for replacement. I hope the replacement works a little better than the original. In conclusion I have to say that this item is highly over priced and very cheaply constructed. I paid over $80.00 for this item and can't believe how over priced it is. Microsoft should be ashamed of themselves for marketing this item at this high of a price.

I bought this 5 months ago. When I got it home I couldn't get the keyboard to work, only the mouse. After much troubleshooting, I exchanged it for another. It worked right away with no problems. It's been 5 months and I use my computer almost everyday and haven't had to change the batteries yet. I wish the keys were backlit and there was a CapLock/Num Lock light, but at the same time, I know skipping this feature is what keeps the battery lasting so long. Lke that the mouse has a zoom feature. Takes double AA batteries which are included in the box.

I love the quiet touch keys, and the mouse feels good. But I have two major issues, briefly. The function keys are horribly designed. I use Excel a lot, and so I'm always hitting the escape key and the F2 key. Good luck reaching them, especially the escape key. And since they're more flush with the keyboard than the other keys, they have to be pushed almost into the hole. The second issue is the ergonomic layout. It seemed like a good idea when I was researching keyboards, but using it is actually fatiguing my arms. Maybe that would improve over time.

Pros: Shortcut keys; function lock; battery indicator on the keyboard; bluetooth dongle a vast improvement in range in comparison to the previous model Cons: no battery indicator on the mouse WARNING: Do not spill anything on keyboard. Yes, spilling something in it will not ruin the circuit board, but I spent upwards of an hour taking it apart to discover there's 35+ tiny screws holding this thing together just so i could clean out the orange juice i spilled the night before.

I needed an ergonomic keyboard I could carry with me since laptop keyboards are too small and cause my wrists to hurt. This one isn't the best ergo keyboard in the world, but it's relatively compact which makes it ideal for travel. I learned that I needed to take the batteries out of it whenever it goes into the backpack because apparently it still tries to send key-presses to the laptop, even when the bluetooth USB is not plugged into the machine. Batteries didn't last long installed in the keyboard while in the confines of the laptop bag.

Initially I was looking for a reasonably priced wireless keyboard with a number pad. I was quite happy to stumble upon this combo package. Both have exceeded my expectations. The keyboard is sleek, low profile, has excellent tactile response, a soft textured wrist rest, tons of shortcut buttons. It's really packed with good stuff for a low price. The mouse is also sleek with programmable buttons also. It's very smooth to move around my desk with no mouse pad. Highly recommend this product especially when it's on sale! Picked it up for $64.99.

Causes programs to randomly open and close!

As stated, great keyboard, bad design on the wireless aspects. After I determined it was nothing else causing my programs to start and stop all the time, swapped out this keyboard to a wired version, problem gone now for 3 weeks. Plugged back in, a few hours and back to programs opening and closing on their own. PC is top quality built with an Antec P183 Case, Intel Core i5 750 Quad Core on an ASUS P7P55 Deluxe MB, Corsair TX850W PSU, and proper attention to wire management. Now looking for wired version of the keyboard, but Microsoft has no info on this keyboard or a wire version, is it so hard to not like MS?

All in all a good keyboard/mouse combo. Felt good to type on and the mouse fit my hand well. The keyboad now takes AA cell, as opposed to AAA cells, for longer battery life. I had no trouble transitioning to this keyboard and mouse from a three year old MS combo. The mouse button configuration is buried in the supplied software and can be configured for each program installed in your computer. Not a fun task. It defaulted to a configuration unlike my old keyboard and mouse combo.

I bought this keyboard after tried wireless Microsoft keyboard 7000, My 5000 combo is perfect for me, 'cause responding time is wow, typing is like heaven. Excellent so far, design little rusty but light weight comparing to 7000. Super compatible with windows 7, no lack of typing, however I can't say the same thing about Microsoft Keyboard 7000. In others words STAY AWAY FROM MICROSOFT WIRELESS LASER 7000, NOT WORTH IT, TROUBLE, AND BUY MICROSOFT WIRELESS 5000 COMBO: YOU GONNA LOVE IT.

    Just works

Pros: Using regularly at a distance of about 15ft with no issues. It just works. Software driver installed on Windows 7 quickly and the included help files and device interfaces are intuitive and useful. Cons: The soft touch keys across the top have a slick surface that is prom to finger prints. Keyboard needs a on/off switch like the mouse. The Esc and F keys are smaller and set lower and it has taken some time to get use to hitting them.

Have had many keyboards and this is handsdown the best I have ever found. The slight curve has almost done away with typos. The palm rest rest is very comfortable. Keys not tall not flat there perfect with whisper quiet action. You know your typing but not too firm it is perfect. Excellent wireless keyboard and mouse. The mouse is the best one i have ever had also. Scrolling is not line by line and jerky but smooth.

This product is great. I ordered it online and the customer service really helped and it arrived fast. Once I got it I plugged everything in and installed batteries and the program. It is that simple. I use this for my spare computer on my television. It works great. I love how it is wireless and the range is also great. I can even work on stuff from the kitchen if I needed too. I would highly recommend this product.

No Cap Light - Keys too close together

Bought this for the quiet touch keys. Nice quiet touch. but keys are too small and too close together.. keyboard takes some getting used to. Nice wrist rest .. well designed ergonomically. Problem: No Cap Lights or Num Lock Lights, etc., so you don't know when certain functions are on or off... Otherwise, nice keyboard.

The keyboard and mouse worked great for about a year until the rubber wheel of the mouse fell apart. I have never had a mouse wheel fall apart. Now both keyboard and mouse have to be replaced. Tried replacing just the mouse with the same model type but no joy. Microsoft quality control needs some work

    Great product with unacceptable flaws

Completely unreliable. Constantly changing batteries is very inconvenient. Lasts about 2 weeks then curser starts going beserk then stops completely in the middle of something. There should be a battery indicator and also a way to turn it all off besides the little transmitter that is in the computer. Also, the absence of a proper manual is a very user unfriendly policy--and infuriating
