This review is to review the focuses differences that are not on a "standard" XBOX 360 and the Elite, and rate the system as a new purchase, not an upgrade or replacement to your current XBOX 360, but overall. When the Halo 3 special edition was first announced, the biggest thing that made this different than the other two versions: the HDMI output on a 20GB model. Now, after the new XBOX 360 price drop announcement and hardware update on all Premiums, the only difference between the HALO 3 edition, the Elite and the Premium is the limited edition paint job on the case, hard drive, headset and controller (you also receive a matching play and charge kit). Almost everything about the Xbox 360 in this paint job stands true that is in the Premium: It theoretically doesn't run cooler, or quieter, or faster, but it looks different. These special editions should have the new heat sink and chip, but all newly released models should have that soon too. Don't let the paint job distract you; the only thing you need to ask is if it improves the video quality and after many reviews and hours using this machine, the XBOX HDMI output is the pretty darn good, the hard drive upgrade is nice if you don't plan on purchasing a lot of downloadable content on th market place that is in HD. If you are using the HDD strictly for saves, then you should be good for game content. Should you buy it? Gamers who have an Xbox 360? No! Videophiles looking for an HD DVD player? No! Videophiles looking to get into the Xbox Live video marketplace? Yes, but know that this thing is still loud and you can now get HDMI in the newly manufactured XBOX Premiums. Guys like me who are gamers and HALO Fans/obsessed? Ya, this is for you. The fact that it has the new HDMI addition is just a bonus. About adding / running the HD DVD player, using Tokyo Drift and the newly minted HQV Silicon Optics test disc—the rigorous test disc benchmarks showed the same flaws on both the HDMI and Component outputs. Jaggies That means the video processor between the older and newer Xbox is likely identical, or of identical quality. That's the processor, though. This isn't a high-end HD DVD player. As for the outputs and what I saw with my own eyes and confirmed with my camera. The HDMI's slightly better shadow detail showed itself. That detail might be lost on a lesser TV or the untrained eye. But remember that the component cables are limited to 1080i. So HDMI wins at full 1080p with no compromises, but with VGA cables you have a draw. Playing games, Gears of War and Madden yielded no differences between the 1080p signals of all three cables—except the strange washed out colors that the VGA cables sometimes show (GRAW for starters), but you can fix this by adjusting the settings in the video. The HDMI again has that shadow detail boost that comes up over and over again. HDMI wins for a better picture, even though all cables do the 1080p dance with games. Final Verdict: It runs HDMI 1.2 (not 1.3 - the newest version), only runs 5.1 Dolby still (no 7.1 yet), and only has the bonus sleek styling. The 360 HALO 3 is worth getting if you are just now entering the high definition video game market and are really into HALO (I mean really into HALO) - if not, then save yourself $50 and get the newly updated Premium with HDMI, packaged with a game bundle (if you can find them) and game on with HALO 3 like everyone else.

So, how much money have you spent on video games and video game consoles this year? If you have shelled out money for each console this year, be prepared to spend another $400+ for this awesome console! The box alone was enough reason for me to buy this. Upon opening it, the reason to drop that much money was justified once again. The color scheme is just amazing and if you are a Halo fan like me, you will just love it. The matching controller and Live headset is a bonus although it would have been nice to have the "Spartan" controller included with the bundle. Instead they threw in a Play and Charge Kit. The matching HDD is a nice touch as well, then again, a 120GB variant would've have been better, but 20GB should be enough to satisfy majority of gamers. The fabled 65nm ship is said to have made its way into this console so by Microsoft's claims, this console should run a bit cooler with a smaller chip an an extra heatsink installed. HDMI connection puts it up to par with the Elite (Minus the 120GB HDD mentioned earlier) but the cable is not present. All in all I am satisfied with this purchase and can't wait to have the Legendary Edition of the game sitting next to the console this Tuesday. 'There comes a time when even the most powerful warriors recognize that they are lacking. Yes, even the mighty Elite must pay its respects and bow down to a Spartan!'

This is the console that microsoft should have had on launch day. The disc drive is much quieter and pretty much is silent when playing dvds. Still not as quiet as the PS3 though, but not distracting none the less. Love the color scheme and design on this thing. Play and charge kit is a plus and it also comes with a regular battery cartridge for non-rechargeable batteries. Although it doesn't say so on the box, the console does have an HDMI port in the back so no worries there. Downsides are that it doesn't come with a copy of Halo 3, no HDMI cable, the "exclusive themes and gamer pics" are laughably lame with only 4 pictures and 1 Halo 3 theme for your dashboard. The extra items you get with the special edition console...(play&charge kit, 1-month gold xbox live subscription, and the "halo 3 exclusive content") really doesn't make it a better deal than it's identical counter-part, the xbox 360 pro that also comes with an hdmi port and updated internal components. You're essentially really paying for a very cool and unique shell and controller for the 360. Bottom line is if you don't like the design of this console, then don't buy it because it's not going to be worth the extra money. If your a Halo fan and don't have a 360 yet, definitely give it a look.

Not much to say about this version of the 360. All 360s have HDMI ports but what stands out than all other 360 is the color. The color is great plus the details placed on this 360 really stands out in a great way! As far as anything else, the wireless control feature is very reliable and navigating the dashboard is troublesome at first but easy to use after getting used to it. Like all 360s there is the possibility for overheating. I would recommend placing your 360 in an open and cool area or invest in purchasing an optional device to cool your console. One of the best features Microsoft has for the Xbox 360 is Xbox Live, you will need an internet connection for Xbox Live and all 360 have the availbility for it. One thing to consider is the Xbox reputaion for crashing a.k.a. the red ring of death. This problem most occured with older versions but Microsoft corrected this with new versions of the 360. My only problem with this edition of the 360 would have to be the size of the hard drive. 20G, that's about it!!!!! I believe Microsoft disgraced the Master Chief with such a small hard drive...... If you like or love the Halo trilogy then go buy this console. You will not be disapointed.

Well I've been toying with the idea of purchasing the 360 for quite some time now.So when the Halo edition was announced I got some money together and got one the day it came out.I walked out of the store with my new 360 and a copy of Gears of War to tide me over until Halo 3 comes along. I loved the colour and sleek art work on the 360 right out of the box, this was only betterd once I connected it to my 50 inch Hitachi LCD 50A500 tv. I used the component video cables and the toslink digi cable for sound.Popping in GOW I was astounded by the picture clarity and detail and the sound was enveloping to say the least,Locousts coming from the left and right of me,had me ducking for cover on the coach. The only thing I could say that was slightly annoying was the sound from the cooling fan which was very noticible in quiet times and the lack of the xbox live Gold free for a month pass that was rumoured. Overall though I would highly recommend the Xbox 360 to anyone interested in gaming, its one machine to keep you planted on the coach for hours at a time.

    Halo 360 with Falcon Processor

The Halo Edition 360 lot 734 manufactured 8/24/07 I never wanted to purchase another xbox 360 untill now! My old launch unit was doing the red ring of death and had no hdmi, so i had to get a new one. I done my research and found out that the new halo editions lot 734 team fdou have the newer cooler running falcon chip inside with hdmi support. So I bought a halo edition lot 734 team fdou built on 8/20/07 and it still had the old processor. I then purchased the premium bundle lot 737 with the bundled games and it still had the old processor. I then exchanged it for the halo edition lot 734 team fdou built on 8/24/07 and this badboy has the smaller 65nm falcon chip! There is no copper heatpipe in the heatsink, and this beast runs extremely cool and silent. I am really loving the hdmi too. The games are a lot more responsive with the hdmi, and the xbox live is a blast!

    Fantastic Idea For Collectors

Thanks to this system I now own 3 Xbox 360's. Yes. I am crazy. But there is a reason for my madness. Before the 360, obviously I had an Xbox. It got blown out in a storm and I bided my time. I knew eventually that Microsoft would bundle the Halo game with the Xbox, as it had been such a good game. Little did I know it would be green. Now I have the Halo 3 360 which completes that small collection of Halo Edition Xbox consoles. Story over. I have yet to really play on the Halo Edition 360 because I mostly want to display it. The gold trim work on it is absolutely stunning, and matches the Halo 3 Legendary Edition helmet's gold visor perfectly. The amount of graphical detail on the casing is much greater than was on the Halo Edition original Xbox. Yeah it doesn't come with the HDMI cables but I think we can live with that. At least it has the HDMI port. My opinion in one sentence? If you don't already have a 360 and you are a big Halo fan, or if you are a collector like me, this system needs to be top on your list before they all disappear.

    A Halo Fans Musthave

The Halo 3 hype is only getting more and more exciting. and with the release of the Halo 3 Special Edition 360 only makes it sky rocket. I admit to having the original 360, but after a hardware error, and luckily having the 2 year Replacement Plan, I went in and traded the consoles. What's in the Box: An olive camo (Spartan Green) and burnt orange 360 with "ammo crate" designs on the sides, an olive and black controller, a dark gray Charge and Play kit (with rechargeable battery), an olive 360 headset, a 20 gig hard drive(With demos, trial arcade games, Hexic HD, and several game videos and Bungie related videos on the hard drive.) and two redeem codes for Halo 3 related gamer pics pack and one theme. All in all, the Halo 3 console is a decent purchase, if you're not big into Halo, but you want a little more power than the regular 360 but don't have enough money for an Elite console then this is the next best thing. But if your a huge Halo fan then you'll want to buy this console. For me I was mid row, well that and I needed a new system.

I am a 360 fanboy, I even own all three consoles (360 elite, 60gb ps3, wii) and I must say this is disappointing. You are paying an extra $50 for a special paint job. This consoles specs are the exact same as the new xbox 360 premiums (which microsoft has announced will now come with hdmi ports) THAT'S RIGHT THE $350 PREMIUM CONSOLES NOW HAVE HDMI PORTS. If you are a huge halo fan then buy it for $50 extra bucks. Or you can save $50 and buy the exact same console white a white color scheme and buy Halo 3 with the money you save. Now that being said I also do fully endorse any version of the 360 because after having all 3 consoles this is hands down the best console out (graphics, game choice, online) I just think this version is overpriced, for this price they should also include the game.

There is another (unfortunately growing) crowd this xbox is perfect for: people who have had their 360 stolen. I absolutely loved my plain white 360 when I had it. The xbox has the best games on the market for consoles. Being a Halophile, this is the perfect replacement for me, the upgraded hardware is an added bonus. My friends (also Halophiles) curse my misfortune as it gives me something they dont have: justification for buying this. I personally would trade my position with any one of them, but I might as well make the best of it. Buy this console if you dont already have a 360, your 360 is broken, or the unthinkable happened and you were robbed of your favorite plaything, no, your life blood. Other than that, unless you are the kind of person who just has $400 laying around and/or you are a true Halophile, there really is no need.

Get This One If You Don't Have One

This is an excellent system to have if you do not already have one. The color scheme is awesome - based on the "Halo" game theme. You get the bundle here with everything you need - very reasonable if you are in the market for a new console. Everything you get here will add up in a lot of savings versus buying it all separately. The only thing, as many others have mentioned, that is the drawback is that you are getting the 20 GB Harddrive versus a bigger one. It will get you started and hold all of your game saves, but if you get further into this, especially the on line stuff, you may later want to upgrade the hard drive. I will offer to any of you who are new to Xbox 360's, keep this system well ventilated to keep it from overheating - it will get hot if you stick it in a bookcase or an enclosed tv stand. Overall an amazing system!

    Worth it

I really love the color. I wish it had the new 65nm chipset, but it doesn't. I opened mine up to check. Aside from that, it runs very well. I haven't had Oblivion freeze up on me like it did with my old 360 before I modded it. This version has the new heatsink for the GPU which makes a big difference when playing for extended periods. Overall, it is a great buy if you want your console to look different than the normal white 360. It is worth the price because you get a headset and a play and charge kit; which would make it cost about the same as the premium version. PS: I read a review here that someone stated the 360 Elite makes the games look better. Uh, same hardware. Not possible unless you were using an A/V cable and swithed to HDMI or Component cables. Then the picture would be cleaner and more clear.

    Halo 3 Edition, Super 360!

I just purchaced this device from Best Buy. First of all let me tell you it is really alot nicer looking in person, you feel like you have a piece of Spartan 117 in your room. (That's Halo 3 talk) Anyway everything is working great in this device smooth as a button. I had the 360 pro and traded up because of some issues with the pro 360. This new Halo 3 edition console features HDMI so is provides extra easy set up with one plug into the back of the tv throughtt HDMI or can be connected with normal HD jacks of standard RCA jacks. It transfered all of my friends list over automaticly, all I had to do was set up a transfer of my gamer tag (which was easy) and everyting I has set up prior was transfered, gamer score, friendslist, clan and everything else. I highly suggest you go get one for yourself!

    The Green Machine lives!

Overall, if you are looking for a new console and considered the xbox360, I would get this one. PROS: 1- Its the best gaming console in the market today. 2- It has the newer FALCON chipset inside, which makes it much cooler and less power than the original AND the Elite versions. Also, the color of Halo green and gold is excellent. CONS: 1- No games are included, and one would think that the HALO 3 version of the Xbox would have the HALO 3 game as an included item, but it does not. 2- There are no other controllers you can buy (yet) that are green - your choices are Black and White - that might change, but dont count on it. Overall, the Xbox is the best console in the market for gamers today, and with the newest version of the xbox in the HALO 3 version, its a good deal.

Clean looking console, doesn't get too graphic or tacky. Beautiful add-on to have the HDMI port for all of us Home Theater lovers-plus you get a matching headset and controller-the wireless headset's a nice accessory as well. Deffinatley worthy if your a Halo fan, but if your not, you shouldn't be reading this. The only thing I found aggrivating was the fact that they didn't plant the 120GB hard drive, but if they had, we would be looking at a $500+ system that would not sell nearly as well as this one. Maybe they should have given the option as to which hard drive you wanted...? All-in-all I think it's a nice job working out something to tribute a great game while making it affordable for almost all gamers. WORD UP!

    Very Nice Overall System

    Krazybonez679

This is actually a very nice overall system. A different touch from the premium and also different from the elite. I have all 3 systems at my house, and i would say it is a tie between this system and the elite. It has that nice green finish on the system and on the corners of the system they have it look like the paint is worn off, which in my opinion is pretty cool. It only has a 20Gb harddrive, but you could always upgrade if thats what your worried about. Controller is nicer too, again with the green and all the buttons being black. Less chance of seeing it all dirty like the white ones after months of use. If you do not own a 360 yet- This would be the one to get in my opinion, Best look and best option!!

Before I saw this product I did not plan to get an xbox 360. But, after about 2 weeks of debating between getting the Halo 3 edition and the 360 elite I went with the Halo 3 because i decided i did not need the 120 gigs and the green just looks so much cooler. The system plays every game i've played very well. The only thing that I do not like about the system is the heat factor, but that is the same with every 360 I have used. As far as only having the 20 gigs, that is all i needed because I'm not interested in putting my music or anything on it, and I don't really play too many demos because the downloads take too long. Overall i found the package to be a good value and a good working product.s

Buy this over the new Premium

    6speednissan

The Halo edition console uses the new cooling technology that prevents the 3 red lights. The color scheme is really nice especially for any Halo fan. Its not just a color, the sides of the Xbox have special designs on them making it look a lot nicer than in the pictures. It also features an HDMI port on the back which most 360's on the shelf right now don't have yet. It may cost $50 more than the premium edition, but it comes with a play and charge kit for the wireless controller and a special edition theme and gamer picture. I highly recommend buying this system if you are looking into getting a 360 soon. Buy it quick because they are only making a handful of them.

I saw this in an E3 preview, I decided I had to get it right away. Some people complain about the color, but in person its a beauty. I actually had a bunch of people over yesterday and they all noticed it and told me how cool it looked compared to the regular boring white and black (elite) 360's. If you have HDMI on your TV i HIGHLY suggest buying this because it also has a port. And it comes with a charge kit which is a pretty nifty add-on. Im a halo fanatic so it was a no brainier for me. Best part is that its limited edition, so odds are if you grab one while you still can you'll be able to brag about it later when they're all gone ;-D.

Styled after the extremely popular Halo 3 game, the Xbox 360 Halo Special Edition has a sleek olive green paint job, outlined in gold chrome. Although the exterior is fantastic, the inner workings is what really makes it fun. Built ontop of a sturdy triple core processor and a revolutionary graphics processor, producing cutting edge graphics is no issue for this power machine. Not only are stunning high def graphics created, but media like movies, photos, and music can be played seemlessy on it's removeable 20GB hard drive. Whether you're looking to play media or unbelivable games, the Xbox 360 Halo Special Edition would be a top choice.
