This product works fine, is inexpensive compared with straight HDMI cables, and is very easy to install. Some caveats though: -- If you have an older version of the 360 (not purchased as a 360 Pro), then you probably do not have an HDMI port (in the newer Pro models, the port is directly below the av adapter port in the back). In that case, to get HDMI 1080P output you will have to buy the MAD CATZ HDMI conversion kit. They are on the market now but are back ordered. Stick with the component AV adapter for now. -- If you do have the port and want to use a better shielded HDMI cable than provided here (mine does work well enough), you will have some problems. -- you cannot use the existing AV adapter for audio to a home entertaiment system!! The adapter covers up most of the HDMI port (another brilliant design feature from MS). If your TV has digital audio out from all sources (i.e. the audio coming into a TV HDMI port) then you can use that to get digital audio. If your TV is like mine and provides digital out from the digital tumer only then you cannot use this method, only the TV's speakers to get audio. -- Given that, if you want to use a better HDMI cable, then you will probably have to buy this product anyway. Bottom line, this product works well enough for 360's that have the HDMI port, and the price is right -- less than that for a basic HDMI cable itself. If you are not sure, then stay with the component AV cables, 1080I is almost as good as 1080P.

    great hdmi cable

This is a great hdmi cable and is perfect of you like to stick with 1st party products (i always do even though sometimes it may cost a little more). I still can't believe how many "awesome" people decide to rate this and other products on here and other sites incorrectly. Make sure that you actually read the review and no just glance at the star rating. Most of the bad reviews for this product are just rants about best buy, or microsoft as companies ( i'm generalizing here, sorry), or they are complaining about how this hdmi cable didn't come with the audio adapter. Hello! This cable is for the xbox 360 S! the previous cable is discontinued just like the original xbox 360. Please, if you have previously written a "bad" review here, make your response, if you feel the need to have one tasteful yet to the point. Thank you. Hope i helped some people with this information.

    Clearing up the confusion !!

    Posted
    Mikey84

I want to say right off the bat that I am writing this review to clear up some incorrect information put out by the reviewer N3TC13R0 from Franklin TN. There is a difference between component HD video and HDMI video - component video is capable of resolutions up to 1080i, whereas HDMI can display the next step up from that, which is 1080p. Granted, the difference may not be immediately apparent to the average gamer or TV user, but it exists. If your TV only supports up to 1080i, then buying this cable would be pointless, as the component video will display that resolution just fine, but if your TV does support 1080p (as do most new HDTVs) then you'll want to grab this HDMI cable for the best picture possible. And at $39.99 (on sale as of this review) compared to competitors cables that are between 60 to 100 dollars, this is definitely a good deal. But, why should you believe what I am saying? Google "component versus HDMI" to see for yourself. Hope this helps!

    360 hdmi

cable is not extremely thick however seems to have great picture, have used other hdmi cables and seem to have similar picture. i have not used any $100 cables to compare it to because those cables are not nearly that much. HDMI cable works with all hdmi devices since it is just an hdmi/hdmi cable. the only difference between this one and other is that is has the required module or optical out which i needed because i have gaming headphones that require optical. if you just a standard hdmi cable you the audio out of the hdmi cable. this works with all the newer 360's. made in the fall of 2007 and beyond. if you have an older 360 without an hdmi port next to the standard video port than you can not use this or any other hdmi cable. the newer 360 (halo 3, elite and the premiums, not sure about core systems) all have hdmi ports in the back. if you are curious looks at the model number on the box. B4J-00107 has it so does 52t-00057. not sure about any others. if you do buy a new system look for a new one that says team:FDOU because those typically have the new 65nm chips.

Decent product, does what it's supposed to do

This product does exactly what it is supposed to do - provides a decent length HDMI cable and an A/V module to still provide optical output to a receiver. The price is not horrible. The HDMI cable is of decent quality, and those of you who make a big deal about it really need to understand the fundamentals of digital transmissions - either they get to the end or they don't. Many people seem to think that they are the same as analog connections (i.e. component) in that they will somehow perform worse if they don't have enough marketing..er.."shielding". This signal is a pulse of elections being sent over the wire, so either it gets to the end or it doesn't, and if it doesn't, the picture will actually be corrupted, not "faded" or anything like that. It's a 1 or a 0, not an analog signal that can be changed as it travels over a wire. Anyway, this product is clearly aimed at the newer Pro and Arcade xbox's that have HDMI ports (all of them you can find on a store shelf should have HDMI now) but don't come with the cable like the Elite does.

    Dont really need it...

The common misconception about HDMI cables/technology is that it will give you higher resolution that component cables. The truth is that it is essentially the same. One could go on and on about shielding etc, however the length of the run from your XBOX to your TV is very short. I challange you to try, with the naked eye. see the difference. I have an LCD and a Plasma with XBOX's. No discernable difference. The only thing is that the HDMI has the audio provisioned on the same cable , where the component cable does not. If you have a surround sound , then you probably dont care about that at all. (Will give you an echo effect between your TV and your surround as it is delayed slightly) I saw the review about analog Vs. digital . Both are digital and can be "cleaned up" on either end in the event of signal distortion or attenuation. Moral of the story? Stick with the component cables t (R, G, B plus audio) Unless you just want to spend 50$ on this cable.

Great Value, love the audio adapter

This is a great cable. Monster cables will run you a cool hundy at least. This one gets the job done and it is 6.5 feet long. The audio adapter is great for somneone like me who uses a receiver without HDMI. I have the HDMI from the Xbox directly to the TV and the the digital audio from the Xbox to the receiver. This gives me the option of using the TV for sound or the receiver which is nice. If I am home alone, Halo 3 gets the full 5.1 dolby treatment blowing the roof off my family room. If it's late at night and the wife and kids are asleep, I keep the sound low and run it through the TV only. I was using component cables before and running the video through the receiver. Running the HDMI directly to the TV has SIGNIFICANTLY improved my picture. I am finally getting the full 1080p I deserve. Pick it up. You can't go wrong.

    Do some research first

Very important: before you buy this product, check your version of Xbox 360 first. This wire is only compatible with later versions, as some older versions don't have an HDMI port, which I soon found out. But I must admit it cost less than most other products and seemed to be an easy setup. However, I must say I was also a little confused about what was in the box. It is a plain HDMI cable, and an adapter that converts the AV port on the Xbox to just Audio and a digital Audio out (optical). So why not just get an HDMI cable, and run the digital audio from the TV output (which is equipped on must HDTVs) to your external audio source, or use the plain AV cable to run the LR audio? To me, it just doesn't seem like the most efficient way. Either way, just get a plain HDMI cable--whether you have an old version of Xbox or just don't see the logic, unless there are extenuating circumstances in which this is simply better.

Transfers HD picture and Digital Audio in 1 cable!

    Posted
    sirisuperfan

This unit is included in the XBOX 360 Elite package and it works flawlessly. The great thing about HDI is that it transmits both audio and video in pure digital/HD format. If connected directly to your TV set you are literally connect with 1 single cable only! If your running the 360 through a home a/v receiver then the cable length should also not be a problem. The addition of the optical audio cable connection is great for entry level a/v receivers that only process video via HDMI. This allows you to run the picture/HDMI directly to your TV and the optical audio cable to your receiver. No matter what, if you want to reduce the amount of cables running behind your TV set and love seeing your games and NetFlix movies in pure HD format, get this kit today!

    Simple Solution

    Posted
    HDheaven

While it may be an unpopular method to read directions as suggested by some of the reviews expressing problems, a quick check on the back of an XBOX360 will reveal the presence of an HDMI port which includes Special Edition Halo models but generally not first revision base models. Sorry. When connecting to a compatible HDTV LCD for example, the XBOX360 will auto configure and provides TOSlink (Optical) port via the included adapter for signal routing to home theatre amplifiers and speaker systems. Since the current revision XBOX360 models support resolutions to 1080P, obviously the specification for the cable product reflects compliance with this standard. While some clever types might suggests DIY solutions, I found that the inclusion of this accessory is painless and cost effective.

Worth it if you need optical audio

    Posted
    ConfusedYeti

Overall this product does the job, but isn't the best. Only consider this HDMI cable if you need the optical audio adapter for your surround sound. What the reviewer N3TC13R0 said is incorrect. The Xbox 360 puts out a digital signal, and component cables are only analog. This means using component forces the signal to be down converted to an analog signal, reducing the overall quality. The resolution will remain the same, but the overall picture quality will not. I recommend a RocketFish HDMI cable, better quality with a fair price.

a month ago i bought a 32" 1080p HDTV. I didnt know to get 1080p picture ,id have to buy an HDMI cable for my xbox. I looked at the price and said NO WAY at first. So then i just used regular component cables. i go normal audio an 1080i picture which was pretty good. even though its expensive, i bought a 1080p HDTV for 1080p not 1080i. id be losing investment if i didnt upgrade. So i bought an HDMI cable. i got perfect 1080p picture and 5.1 Dolby surround sound. i played COD4 and it was amazing. with HDMI i also used my xbox for a DVD upscaller and watched all my fav DVDs in 720p upscalled 60 fps progressive scan. this product is amazing

    Does what it's susposed to

Since there are a lot of people with TVs with HDMI, but receivers that aren't (or just speakers or even headphones) this is a must. Not much to say expect that it allowed me to run HDMI to my TV and optical audio to my receiver and it works fabulously. The downside is the price and the bundle. As I have plenty of HDMI cables around all I really need was the adapter, but it is packaged with the HDMI cable and not sold separately. But if you have a receiver and need optical audio, this is a must.

    Buyer Beware: Faulty Microsoft Advertising

CAVEAT EMPTOR Returned item to Best Buy Customer Service with tape measure in hand. Refunded without a problem. I'd advise Pleasant Hill location to pull some inventory samples for Quality check and follow up with Microsoft distributor. $50 is steep for a 6' cable. Any HDMI cable will work with XBOX 360. Sometimes it's cheaper to buy two short cables and a female:female adapter if you have to span long distances rather than a single long cable. Overall happy CS experience. Would applaud if Best Buy followed up with Microsoft.

The regular composite cable connector that came with the base xbox is made just big enough so that it covers up the HDMI port on the back of the system. My receiver doesn't convert HDMI sound, so therefore I could either do HD picture with my own HDMI cable and no sound, or I could spend $50 to get this kit just for the adapter to plug in an optical audio cable and my HDMI. Nothing wrong with the product itself, just something wrong with Microsoft doing what they can to get more money out of accessories.

If you already have the 360 HD-AV cable with the component outputs and a spare HDMI cable laying around, do NOT buy this product! The packaging consists of a barely shielded HDMI cable and a separate adapter that plugs into the original AV connector that has audio and optical audio out. The optical connector is identical to the one on the existing cable but to get both the HDMI and HD-AV cable plugged into the back of the 360, you'd have to modify the connector end on the bottom side to thin it out enough to get the HDMI plugged in.

If you pay attention Best Buy messed up on this item. The product description does not match the item in the picture or the product it self. I went and picked up this same exact item in store today I opened it up and all it was, was a HDMI Cable and the back of the box says the same just a HDMI Cable but if you read the description is says that this item comes with an adapter to work with the Xbox 360 to hook up fiber optic products which is the whole reason why I bought this product. Good going Best Buy.

I needed this cable because xbox for some reason has issues sending dolby digital sound over hdmi on my xbox. I needed this cable to hookup my soundbar and receive dolby digital sound. It works great because you have a choice using this optical input to use your receiver in dolby digital or use the hdmi through your tv set sound when playing late at night. This product is exactly as described and works great.

First, make sure that you have a newer XBox console. If you do not have the newer XBox consoles then you will not even be able to use this product! To be sure, look on the back and see if it has the HDMI port on the back, if not, do not bother at all with this product because it will not work. Second, you will be better off buying a regular HDMI cable like an AR or RocketFish HDMI cable. This Microsoft cable has very poor shielding and overall quality is lacking.

    Perfect connection.

This is the perfect connection for if you want to have HDMI and have the plug for the optical cable in to the sound system seperately from the tv for your xbox. I personally discovered I had bought a tv that the optical output only put out 2.1 no matter what the input, and the rocketfish plug I had bought was too large to fit the HDMI and the Optical output for the xbox. This product cured that problem with the proper size fit to acomodate both.
