Nice, but it broke really fast

I bought this headset at a bestbuy, and I was very satisfied with this headset. The sound quality was quite good for the price, and so was the mic. However, there's a few things I didn't like. For one, although the over the ear design is convenient, this one was not comfortable, because the plastic ends up hurting the top of your ears if you're wearing them for 3+ hours. Despite that, I really liked that headset, and it would be getting a 4 stars from me, but 3 months after buying it, I find out that the microphone has broken. Now, I'm not one to treat any of my electronics badly, so that's not the problem. The miserable design of this headset had the wires inside the mic fray, and eventually the mic stopped working. I discovered the mic would work when it was a bit above eye level, but when lowered the wires inside must have lost contact and you'd hear a loud sound, then nothing. I have to say that it's the worst experience to be using a headset noramly, and the simple action of moving the mic back behind your head *life it was designed for* destroys the thin wires inside of it. I would caution you against buying this headset unless you only plan to use it for a few months. Sure, it's cheap, but even something this cheap should last at least a year..

I bought this headset shortly after buying Starcraft 2 to take advantage of the in-game voice chat. The sound quality is great and I actually got compliments from in-game players when talking about it, saying that my quality was "much better" than the headset of a friend I was playing with. I later did some recording with it and I can't really complain for being a headset microphone. They fold up fairly small and come with a carrying case which was a nice touch. After wearing them for an extended period of time they can get a little bit uncomfortable, BUT as an audio engineer who has worn many different types of headphones (from in-ear isolation to over the ear "air"-phones) EVERY pair of headphones I've ever worn gets uncomfortable over time. Now how much time can definitely vary, and I would not say that this set is on the worse end of that scale, and it's definitely not the best either. But the headphones have to be on your head somehow, and if it touches your head, it will get uncomfortable eventually. The same goes with in-ear isolation headphones.

I returned a more expensive Plantronics headset in exchange for the LifeChat LX-2000, and it won hands down in every aspect, except comfort and fit. But the sound quality was excellent for both listening and speaking. Comfort is a main concern and the LifeChat 2000 fails miserably in this department. At least for me with my sized head (small). The headset fits too loosely and slides down as your talking, and the over-the-ear bands rest painfully against your ears due to the weight of the product. It was pretty annoying. I tried using the foldable aspect to manipulate the fit and tried different neckband positions (higher up on back of head was best), but all to no avail. Regretfully, I plan on returning them because they just don't fit tight enough. I hate to return them because the sound quality (input and output) was so excellent. I would recommend this product to my friends but not without adding: "If you have a larger head or can figure out a way to keep them from sliding down, then this headset is a steal at $25".

Yet another example of manufacturers that love to put merchandise in packaging that gets destroyed while opening. You can't tell me that it's not intentional. I'm sure it cuts down on the number of returns which constitutes a victory for the business. I'm not shy - I'll hand them all the bits and pieces when I return it, spoiling for a fight if they refuse it as 'unsellable'. The manufacturer also went to great lengths to ensure that you can't see the plug without buying and opening the product. I did notice 2 little plug icons in the southeast corner on the back of the package. Adjacent to the icons are the words "Analog only". OK, so it's not a USB device. I get that. I thought the 2 plug icons indicated that the device fit 3.5mm jacks as well as some other size. Wrong. One is mic and one is speaker. Couldn't someone had just made that clear? Of course the rocket scientists at Best Buy told me 'no problem' it will fit your laptop. I'm returning it tomorrow. \cbf

Great price, good sound, poor durability

I bought this headset 3/28/2011. It satisfied my needs until June, 2011. Then like so many other reviews here, mic became scratchy, intermittent, and finally died in July. This design clearly has durability issues. The bag that came with it is too small for the folded headset and using it may have contributed to the mic's demise. If the headset were more durable, I would recommend it as good value for the price, but a headset whose mic doesn't work is worthless. Accolades to Best Buy Customer Service for excellent and caring service that enabled me to quickly and easily return the defective unit without any problem. I don't recommend this particular headset, but I heartily endorse Best Buy as a place to buy your electronics.

I just got this and tested it out. After 10 minutes of wearing it, I knew I didn't like how it felt. I know this varies by the user, and some may find it very comfortable. Given this, I thought it might still be ok for the price if it worked well. My friend on the other end said the sound quality is much better than my old microphone, so that is the plus side. On the other hand, the sound quality coming in on the earphones is pretty horrible. I could barely hear anything, even with the settings maxed out. I thought for a moment that I could use it just for the mic and use a different set of headphones for sound, but that would be a huge inconvenience that I would rather not bother with

My Mother purchased this Headset on 2/5/2010. She got the 2 year Blacktie Protection Plan.. The Headset broke on 8/10/2010, a wire on the left side of the headset inside the earpiece broke causing the mic to not work.. I took it in and got a replacement no questions asked.. Today 2/5/2010 exactly 1 year later, the second headset broke.. same exact problem with the wire breaking inside the left earpiece.. I will be going back into Best Buy and attempting to switch this Microsoft Headset in for another.. Clearly this headset has flaws.

Over-all this is a good set of headphones. Good sound quality for music, movies, and even games for the most part. The mic has excellent sound quality, perfect for Left 4 Dead and Skype. The only real downside to this headset is how uncomfortable they are on the tops of your ears. You will constantly be pinched and prodded by these things unless you put some foam on them like I had to do(If you buy these, please put the foam on them or the tops od your ears WILL be bleeding after use). I've had this thing for around a year and a half and it just now died in me after being stepped on. Upgrading to GAMECON 777 as I speak.

i lost my good headset somwhere and though i would try something different and the rice was cheap so i got these. The sound quality is very bad, i cant hear faint sounds like i could with my logitech headsets. the mic does work well, everyone said the quality was great on their end, but it was a struggle to hear them half the time. they are also designed for a HUGE head. If you dont have a wider head on your shoulders you will find that the ear cups do not adjust to your head at all, as they are fixed in place and have zero adjustments

Is NOT compatible with Windows 7

Bought this with the understanding it would be compatible with Windows 7 as I bought a new gaming PC and didn't want to risk it NOT being compatible when my upgrade came. Spoke with a Best Buy employee who said the same thing - its Microsoft of course it would be compatible. Except its not... http://www.microsoft.com/windows/compatibility/windows-7/en-us/Details.aspx?type=Hardware&p=Microsoft%20LifeChat%20LX-2000%20Headset&v=Microsoft&uid=LX-2000&pf=0&pi=0&s=Microsoft%20LX%202000&os=64-bit Check the compatibility yourself before you buy!

Mac users do not buy this

This type of microphone DOES NOT,without some type of pre-amp or mixer, work on Macintosh computers. The jack on a Macintosh is a "Line In" type, not a "Mic In" that this microphone needs. I know the packaging says it works on a Mac, but I think that is referring to the headphones, which do work on the Mac. The deal is that a "Line In" jack needs something powered to be plugged into it, and this microphone is not powered. Go with a USB microphone/headset combo, such as the one by Logitech - the USB Pro one.

so i got these for Christmas because playing video games with a headset is easier and these were the cheapest ones in store. i have glasses and the clips that hook over the top of your ear pinch your ear when you have glasses on. i couldn't play for more than an hour with these and I'm going to return them asap. they sound really nice and i haven't used the mic, but they're causing too much pain to continue using. i think I'm going to get the turtle beach headset.

Sound is ok. However, these are totally unsuitable for my use, because the headset starts hurting after only 15 minutes or so. I use headphones for gaming sessions and music listening when my wife is asleep. I should have returned these. I recommend that if you choose these, get them on sale (not worth more that $10-15) and try them out right away so you can return them if your experience is like mine.

As others have said, the headset is designed for someone with a huge head. It feels very loose and as if it's about to fall off all the time. The sound is decent, but it has a delay when using it for gaming over the internet. That makes it simply useless when trying to get a message across in the middle of a heated gaming session. Do not waste your money on them, not even if they are on sale.

If I only wanted to listen to music, games, etc., I wouldn't buy a headset with a microphone. If I wanted a microphone that intentionally made me sound like Darth Vader, I would expect that to be mentioned somewhere in the marketing. I half expected a product from Microsoft would be of decent quality. I was wrong. This is a completely inferior product.

i bought these as an alternative to my SkullCandy Xbox 360 headset which just recently broke. all i had to do was buy a 2.5 mm adapter for it. headset and adapter together were still cheaper than any premium (skullcandy, turtle beach, etc..) headset offered for the 360. the headset alone was the same price of the basic 360 head (which is a rip off!!)

This is a very good set of head phones for the price. I do a Intenet radio show 3 times a week so they get used a lot. They sit very well on the ears and the sound quality according to my listeners is very good. I would reccomend them to anybody that wants a good inexpensive set.

My previous headphones broke and I needed another for Rosetta Stone. Each and every thing I said into these headphones the Rosetta Stone software did not recognize. The mic is useless and the headset is incredibly uncomfortable. Glad I wasted twenty dollars.

These have to be the most uncomfortable headphones I have ever put on my head. Maybe my long hair make it slide, or my head is too small, but they do not stay in place for more than a couple of seconds without moving my head. Very disappointing.
