    Great 'phones

First of all, these are an excellent value. For about $40, you have a pair of phones that have a really good quality sound and microphone setup. The "poof ball" microphone is this way because you can't do everything digitally- some things have to be fixed mechanically- and "p" and "s" sounds from the mouth can't be well filtered out without this mechanical buffer on ANY headphones. (This is like trying to filter a scene digitally after taking a photograph without [certain] filter(s). You just don't get the same effect.) These may not hold up as well as others, but I'd bet it's because it is built stronger. The headband won't take the kind of "throw it around" handling that cheaper headsets will, perhaps, but it keeps the ear pieces snug and ambient sound away from them, so it SERVES ITS PURPOSE VERY WELL. in fact: that's exactly what this product does: a good value for a great sound and input from the mic. If you abuse stuff? Shoot- buy the Best Buy extended warranty for about eight bucks and they'll give you a replacement pair if you have a problem in two years. For $48 total, you're about fifty bucks less than the closest comparable headset they carry. This is a real no-brainer. Nah, I'm no audiophile, but they sound great with some advanced applications I use like Soundforge, Adobe Soundbooth CS5, and for gaming using TeamSpeak 3.x. I know 'my guys' aren't flinching every time I talk, or asking me to repeat myself, like they were before. Sound checks on the far end are coming back with great reviews. This is coming from someone who did use the products that other reviewers insist are better in the 30-some reviews so far. The complaints have some merit, but like any collection of reviews, there will be some that are complaining about their own problems. In this one, it's abuse of equipment and diversity of system setup. I agree with the one reviewer that you can't separate the mic from the headphone when it comes to default devices- they have to be treated as one. But this is on my on-board, Realtek, sound system; which have always su

I have had mine for about 4 years now and i paid 49.99. Now I do have to replace these cause i have a loose wire but it is not preventing them from working. Just annoying the occasional static scratching . however i am a very heavy user of these headphones about 4-8 hours a day 5-7 days a week for varies reasons. They are my primary play back and mic device. I use them to listen to music gaming skype and voice recognition software. Now for those that say the volume is poor must not know how to got into the setting and make changes to the device. you can set if the device will control all sound or allow applications to take control of the device. If you like to use speakers from time to time you can easily disable them and enable your speakers. For microphone i have found that you need to make adjustments to the mic volume. If people on the other end are saying they can hear everything you are doing then the mic volume it too high and can be easily adjusted in the levels tab under headphone properties. Which is where you will find all the advance settings for make changes and adjustments to get the most out of your headphones. Sound quality is excellent i no longer have to strain to hear friends on voice chat servers to understand what they are saying nor do they to for what i say telling them. I listen to a lot of music for a variety of genres and for song to song i do not have to strain to hear the variants of each note or instrument. the noise cancelling is awesome i do not get annoyed if there is a lot ambient noise around me or people chatting or the neighbors tv lol.

    Wiring Of The Headset

Okay I would like to start off by saying this is a really decent headset but it does have a major problem which had occurred less than a month after I bought it. The cable for the headset loves to get twisted up constantly. I found myself untwisting it about once every half hour. But after untwisting so many time the right speaker went out in my headset... And then 2 days later the Microphone died. I decided to skip trying to mess around with the warranty and just go buy another headset, perhaps a wireless gaming one. But before I went out and bought a new one I carefully stripped the wire back and had found that the wires had broke inside the casing. But other than that if the wire does break just find the perfect position holding the wire and it will work as long as you don't move an inch. Other than this large problem the headset is really sweet I enjoyed it very much when it worked and it had very good sound quality and the microphone to it was very clear. Also the earphones where really nice they keep out what I estimate 50% of the disturbances that are going on in the background. I would definably buy this headset again if it wasn't for the wiring.

Pros: Sound quality is great. Plenty of volume and bass. Mic is crystal clear and strong. I speak softly so people in the real world have a hard time hearing me, but I'm easy to hear on this. Easy to use. Excellent noise cancelation. Solid construction. Cons: In line volume controls are right in the middle of the cord. Terrible placement! I put it in my lap so I don't step on it or roll over it with my chair while gaming. Headset can feel tight after a few hours of gaming. Other Thoughts: Got this to use with DDO and it works flawlessly. I come across clearer and stronger than players using more expensive headsets. It was easy to split the installation process and tell it not to make Live come up all the time since I have no use for that. I'm not sure why some other people have had issues. The sound quality and noise cancellation are great. It is plenty loud with my system, in game, and device volume set at about 25%. I had originally bought this just to see if it was any good, and I would have been fine with tossing it and trying something more expensive. It works great, and my only real complaint is the stupid cable mounted volume controls! I only had to use them once to dial everything in so now it is just in the way. I'm buying another one as a gift...

    Good Headset

I had this headset for over a year with almost daily use and it had good clarity, but eventually got a loose connection in the Volume/Mute switch. When I went back to BB to purchase another set I did find the price had dropped from $49 to $42, but BB was sold-out so I tried a Logitech model that was 3.5 mm plugs instead of a USB connection and the clarity was not as good as my old MS 3000 model. I ended up trying the Plantronics Audio 655 USB model and it sounds as good as or better than the MS Livechat 3000. I found out that when you use the USB connection it bypasses your audio card on your computer, so if you have a cheap audio card as I do, stick with a USB connector. If you have a high-end computer audio card then you might want to use the 3.5mm plug style in order to get the benefits from your audio card, plus you will be able to plug in and out the headset for instant connection. USB headsets sometimes need you to restart the program for them to connect. I recommend you get BB replacement plan on any headset you purchase as I believe they are all likely to break sometime over the next two years and the replacement program is not that expensive and BB will replace them instantly instead of having to deal with the manufacturer. If you need a good quality headset with good clarity for voice communications on a cheap computer I believe that either the MS LiveChat 3000 or the Plantronics Adio 655 would work fine. If you also use it for gaming, you might want to check out the Plantronics 777 model.

My brother got me these for Christmas and I couldn't wait to try them, problem is I like to sometimes use my speakers and just use the mic when playing games and I tried all the options I could on my computer but this headset can only be set as default because its USB and when it is I can't set my speakers to work at the same time! Some plus sides to this head set is i've been wearing it for over an hour now and they are comftorbal, however the mic is a bit crude and old fasioned with the big poof ball on the end its clear sounding on the other end for my friends but i'm so afraid i'm going to light this thing on fire when I go to light a cig. The one thing that has me waking up early before work and returning these is the sound, the quality is good perhaps to good? There is no control over options and the base is WAY to high on these it hurts my ears to have the sound even on normal volume I have to have it to low to hardly hear anything to have the base be fine this is what has me returning these tomorrow and going for something else, I already found one with good reviews that i'm going to get tomorrow morning. If your looking for cheep guys go for this I would guess but for every day use not a recommendation, i'm going to stick with old fasion jack in head phones no USB this time around unlike with my other electronics, good hunting and good luck to all!

I've been a huge Logitech headset supporter. My intent was to purchase another Logitech headset after my mic died. However, I couldn't ignore the features and price of the Life Chat. I wanted a full ear cup, noise canceling mic, stereo sound and controls that would allow quick muting. I got all of that with this heaset. I didn't get any pinching discomfort after several hours of gaming. It would have been nice if the headband had padding, as I'm bald. Nothing some foam tape didn't fix. I'm a hard core gamer so the headset needed a full range of sound and excellent quality mic. My gaming buddies have praised me because they can now hear me crystal clear on Ventrilo/Voip. My only real complaint is that the control dongle is bulky. Fortunately, it light so it doesn't pull. A clip on the back would have made it better. Also, the large "life chat" button is next to the mute button. Several times I've hit that by accident, which caused my game to minimize while it launched instant messenger. Not good when in the heat of battle. If that button could be disabled in the software, I'd just shut up and game. I'd highly recommend the headset. I've had it only 2 weeks so we'll see how the durability is later.

    Disappointing

The best thing about this headset is the sound quality from the microphone - it is fabulous. Unfortunately, after less than a year of light use, the microphone came out of the socket and it was dangling by a couple of thin wires. I had to literally tape it back on until I got a more reliable and lightweight Logitech set (I believe it's the ClearChat Comfort USB). The Microsoft 'phones are also bulky and uncomfortable after a while, while the Logitech 'phones stay comfortable for the most part, even after a few hours. Neither one has stellar sound quality on the headphones, although both are fine for Skype or VOIP phone use. (The Logitech set has a slight edge for headphone sound quality, although I found the Microsoft microphone sound quality is superior, as long as you can use it. :) Lately I've been using the Logitechs for work more than I got to use the Microsoft headset. At around $40, this Microsoft pair really should have been more reliable.

I was looking for a microphone headset for webinars and meetings on the computer. I had read other reviews about this headset and noticed people had commented on how good the noise cancelling feature was on the headset so I thought it would be perfect for the meetings I host on the computer. The good news is that this headset was easy to use. You just plug it into the usb port and the computer loads the drivers and you are ready to go. The bad news is that the microphone is terrible. It picks up every back ground noise. If you are using the microphone while typing it will pick up every key stroke as if you are tapping your finger on the microphone everytime you are pressing a key. It also comes across as if you are standing inside a tin can. I am very disappointed in the performance of this headset at any price. If you are just looking to use the heatset for listening to audio where the mic is not needed then it will work well for you. If you are going to record your voice then save your money!

    Not a great product

I bought 2 of these headsets, one for myself and one for my mother so we could chat while playing WoW. I quickly discovered that it was rather cheaply made. Right out of the box once I plugged it in I could hear crackeling in the headset which instantly told me there was horrible connection issues. I returned it and recieved the same product. The second headset didn't work too badly. But everyone on ventrilo always complained of my background noise such as my roommates talking in the other room or even my dogs barking outside of my house with my windows closed. And after having the second headset for only a month and a half the crackeling started up. A week later my mic was dead. So I decided to take it apart and try to fix it. It's so cheaply made I just decided to move on to a better built product. But my mothers still works fine, although I can hear all her background noise. Also, I constantly found myself having muted my mic by mistake. As for pros, I can say when it does work the game sound is fairly decent.

I bought this headset so that I could chat with friends while playing Diablo 3. The only bad thing about this headset is that it's not wireless, and that isn't normally a big deal for PC users because you are sitting right in front of the computer anyways. Plus if there was not a wire, you wouldn't get the in-wire volume control which can be quite nice sometimes. This headset has great sound quality for both in-game music and sounds as well as for chatting. Along with the making things sound great, they also do a fairly good job at blocking outside noise. The microphone must be great too because everyone tells me that I sound clearer than anyone else and ask me about my headset. Another good thing about the headset is that it's really comfortable to wear, even for long periods of time. Overall, it was a great buy with no real complaints.

    Poor Audio Quality No Control

The volume control on the cable is nice, but a 6 ft cable is a joke on this especially if its USB I needed a 6ft extension to make it work for my rig (double the distance come on Microsoft copper isn't that expensive.) The headset is so tight on my head after 20-30 minutes I need to take it off. The mic works and a mic cut is nice, haven't used the VOIP button cause I don't use VOIP The audio quality is a joke, th ebuitl in USB audio drivers make it horrible to use, I'd recommend a 3.5mm audio source and using you integrated audio source most of the newer (939/AM2/754 boards) have great integrated audio that sounds great regardless of the output source, the USB audio circumnavigates all your great audio processing into a single cheap (or not cheap) audio card. Overall if you don't do heavy game/movie watching/music listening it functions great. It does what it is suppose to work as a conference call headset.

These sound pretty good but I haven't used the mic yet so I can't comment on that. I bought these as a temporary headset while my Tritton AX Pro's are being fixed. They dont compare to those but can't complain for them only being $30 where as the Tritton's are 5.1 dolby digital and $180. I will have to agree with another review about there being too much bass but this can be corrected at least in Windows 7. Right click on the volume icon in the task bar and choose playback devices. In the window that opens up select the headset and click the properties button. Under the enhancements tab check low frequency protection and loudness equalization. Change the low frequency protection to 70Hz or whatever sounds best to you. The loudness equalization will bring up the mids and highs a little and the low frequency protection will get rid of the very low and over powering bass.

Needed a headset for conf calls over Skype. Got on sale so $$ was right. Since using it - found out a couple of things: Pros: Great audio - I can hear conversation no problem and others tell me microphone works great. Cons: Has two ear covers but I find that I usually put one to the side and just use one w/ mic attached. Headphones get warm after awhile. Cord could be just a bit longer. and part on cord where volume / mute buttons are located- wish there was an attachment / pin that I could than use to attach to my shirt Final result: Good set - and have recommended to others and will continue do so.

I bought this headset in order to give me the opportunity to hear better and speak more clearly. The headset does accomplish this, however, when I want to let others hear the conversation the plug and play option is not very friendly. Unplugging the headset does not allow me to immediately hear and speak through the computer. I usually have to get out of the website and back in and it often does not work well. It takes a couple of times to get it working correctly again. The same is true in the other direction, that is, one cannot just plug in the headset and begin speaking and listening. I use SKYPE rather than MSN chat - it should make no difference to the headset, but perhaps it does. I have recently learned that for around $60, that is about $20 more than this headset, Logitech has a camera with built-in microphone and speaker that works superbly. That may be the better buy.

The sound was strong. The mic works great and I have had others comment on the clarity. After only two months, the left ear cord connection is shorting out causing loss of sound in the right ear. I have been careful with the headset. However, the large volume control constantly tugs on the cord. The weight alone is enough to cause stress on the corded connection. When the volume control would fall out of my lap there was a noticeable tug on the headset. Future designs should include a clip on the back of the volume control so it can be secured to clothing and reduce stress on the cord. If I were to buy these headphones again, I would duct tape the cord to the headphone as to reduce stress on the connection. (Thankfully, I don't use them where anyone could see me.)

    A *sound* investment

I'm kind of cheap, so the price up front was kind of a step for me. However, once I got it home and started using it, it was easily worth the cost. The sound is robust and clear, I hear parts of songs I've never heard before without the annoying peaking and buzzing of lesser quality audio equipment. The quality of the microphone actually surprised me. I created a short audio test file to try it out, and the sound of my voice was so clear, and lacking background noise, I had to do it again to see if it was a fluke. It delivered once more with no problem. Another thing I like is the length of the boom microphone. If those tiny little earpieces just don't cut it for you, give this one a shot.

I ordered one of these off the website and I just got them today. It's now about 9:30 at night, they arrived at about 4:00. I've just spent the last five and a half hours trying them out, and they've performed well for me so far. they feel fairly comfortable. They are a little heavier than I'm used to, but that's not what I bought them for. The symbols on the buttons of the controller are extremely easy to figure out. If you can't figure it out, then this isn't for you. If you get these be sure to install the software first, then plug in the cord after the installation is finished. If you do it wrong, you may have problems with it. If that happens, it would be your fault.

Great...Until the wires got tangled up.

This was a great headset for 6 months... Minus the wire. The wire tangled so easily after about 2 weeks of hardcore gaming on it. I used it every day for 6 months, and eventually the wires came extremely tangled, so I untangled them, and small cuts in the plastic covering on the wire were visible, after 1 day of untangling the wire, the audio in the left headphone failed all together, as did the microphone. It was a great Mic for a gamer and audiophile like myself until it broke. I would not recommend it for a friend. Get a cheap mic because it will last as long as this one did. Overall, do not buy it, the comfort wasn't that great and neither was durability.
