    A Huge Improvement!

This new Xbox 360 Media Remote is quite the improvement over the original. I owned it as well, and it has given me many years of flawless performance. Truth be told, I only upgraded to this newer version because it looked sleeker, and honestly I was truly excited to have a black colored remote to go with my black Xbox Elite, because the white old one always clashed. Yes replacing it for a new color is senseless, but hey, that's my money and my decision :-) . And at only $19.99, well I figure it's a good investment in case something were to happen to my other older model. But the new model shines, literally! It's very pretty to look at, and above it all it performs admirably and just as good, if not better than my original. Even with a fresh set of batteries in the original white one, well I think time was taking her toll on my poor old remote, because she just didn't have that hitch in her getty-up anymore, so to speak. But this new model comes through with flying colors in that department, and I notice no latency (delays) issues. Of course with these InfraRed remotes you always need to maintain a good unobstructed line of sight with your receiver (the 360 in this case). But it picks it up well, and like the other reviewer posted, I also get somewhere around twenty feet or so. And like the various other reviewers, well, I'm sad to say that my new remote also does not control my television channels well, or sync with it like your normal universal remote does. But you know what? All things considered, I'm fine with that, especially seeing how as the remote was never in the existence of man, once advertised, to perform as a universal remote. Yep, that's right, as with the original Xbox 360 Media Remote, this one also is, shockingly so, only supposed to work with your Xbox 360. It will control things that happen on your television, but it's doing so via your 360. What logical person looked at what was advertised, and somehow read that it becomes a "universal remote", or is purported to change the channels on your television? If someone can provide me with this proof, well I'd gladly look at it. But I dint believe I'll be viewing that any time soon. So, if you're in the market for a remote to control the "media" functions of your 360, I'd personally recommend this new edition. And if all else fails, I'd doubly recommend the original white Media remote as well. And they still have those for sale, all over the net and retail stores, and considering that this new model is out you could probably find it cheaper than this too. Or if all else fails completely, well just stick with the controller, because this remote is definitely a "luxury" item. I guess that should easily be said for the 360 in general though, haha, but it's one heck of a fun and entertaining luxury!

Picked one of these up a few days ago and LOVE it. The controller will adjust volume and switch input selections at 20+ ft for me no problem. I do need to make sure I have a clear shot on the front of my TV & XBOX but that's goes for any controller using IR. I like the small form of it compared to the older media remote but I dislike that the A,B,X,Y buttons are kinda small as well. Considering XBOX makes heavy use of those buttons you'd think they'd make them a little bigger. The only other issue I have is the center button should be raised just a bit from the rest of the circle pad to help avoid accidental clicks when scrolling through Netflix/Hulu. Neither are that big of a deal though just takes a little getting used to. Overall I like the remote and will be purchasing another for use in my game room. PS: Those here down grading your rating based on it can't change TV channels please read descriptions. It never claims that it will do that. Those with distance complaints not sure what to say. As I stated above I can use no problem from 20ft+ away.

If you are trying to lose weight, this is the remote for you! You will gain muscle tone in your arms from the rigorous and strenuous repeated attempts waving the remote at the Xbox trying to get the darn thing to work. Eventually you will get up with the remote and it will work 3 feet from the Xbox. Rinse and repeat. Whew! Feel the burn! What a work out! This is a piece of garbage. There is such a small sweet-spot for the remote to connect to the XBOX it's almost worth just getting up and finding a controller. Plus there is no green button for Windows Media Center on this model, WMC is the main reason I got the remote.... I'm basing this next comment on my 3rd Xbox and this remote: Microsoft should put more effort in to the quality of their hardware! Yes, it really makes me mad, I am very frustrated with it and am going to buy a different one online tonight.

If you are looking to be able to Navigate around your Xbox 360 console seamlessly - this is an ideal IR based remote control. I use my XBOX 360 primarily for watching IP based video content and (Netflix, Amazon, Xfinity, etc, etc) and periodically switch between providers, submit content search and toggle to my photos and music. This remote is excellent in providing this functionality. Battery life is great, IR could be a little stronger to give a little more range. Current remote comfortably gives 15 range. however after that you need to be very accurate as to where you point it for the remote to work Best remote I have ever used for media and xbox control was the gyration series. This was a lot more expensive and the do not make it any more.

    Decent Remote but Lacks Functionality

The remote looks great, and has a somewhat solid feel to it. Overall, it appears to be a well-build device. However, it does not function well for TV-related functions. For example, one can’t change TV channels with it. Additionally, as someone has already noted, the signal put out by this device is far weaker than a TV remote and, for that matter, an Xbox 360 controller. On the plus side, though, it works great as an Xbox 360 media remote, and is much more streamlined to use than an Xbox 360 controller for things like Netflix, etc. This is it’s one of its only saving graces, and I’ll keep it for that. It’s only $19.99, which is cheap for remotes. It does its primary job well in controlling everything through the Xbox 360 interface. As far as an all-in-one universal remote, one can do far better, though.

I purchased this remote when my family decided to ditch satalite T.V in favor of streaming video with Netflix through the Xbox. So far we have loved this, but not the remote. It lacks letters above the number buttons, so you can't use it to search by simply pressing a few buttons, you must arrow over a keyboard on the screen. Also, if the remote is not pointed just right at the Xbox, it won't work. The arrow buttons are super sensitve, and if you even lightly brush over them, your screen will freeze.

I purchased this remote because we use the XBox consoles as media extenders and DVR's. The remote works great, has a nice appearance, and functions at a good distance...but it's missing one feature. The remote is missing the Media Center button. With this button lacking it forces you to dig through the Xbox menu system to get to Media center. I have an old (white) xbox remote that has the button. It's a huge convenience. Aside from that the remote is just what we expected. I'd still recommend it.

I got this for the Xbox 360 in the bedroom which serves out TV Tuner through Windows Media Center and Netflix box. It will turn on the TV, but won't change the input. I thought I could just use the standard wireless Xbox 360 wireless controller, but hitting the wrong button became an issue as it is not intuitive for video control. As a side not, it would be nice if the buttons were back lit. Overall its worth the $20 if you are doing a lot of video or media control with the Xbox 360.

Perfect fit for a Netflix user

I love this remote for Netflix; it has the XBOX buttons for Adding to Queue and Searching, and has the TV Volume and Power buttons. I don't need any additional remote. The remote is a nice shape and feels solid in my palm My only complaint is that even though the "input" button brings up the menu, my TV requires the Channel buttons to change the input. That's the only missing feature, but fortunately I don't change the input on my TV often. FYI, this remote has the following TV buttons: Power, Vol+/-, Input.

it does everything that your normal controller would do keypad up down it has all the color buttons all of them so it does make for easier use when watching Netflix Hulu Exedra! the only downfall is the fact that you have to point exactly perfectly at the front of the Xbox or the Xbox doesn't pick up the signal on like normal remote where you can just aim it in its direction and it works

Its a regular remote basically but it sure made the media side so much more convenient. I don't have to worry about my controller going inactive after so long and or have the batteries constantly going dead. It was totally worth the money I paid. You have to be in front of it since it doesn't operate on wireless technology, You need line of sight but other than that it does what I need it to do.

Don't get me wrong this remote is solid, its well built and believe it would last years. The only problem I have with it is that it doesn't change my tv channels, for $20 it should definitely do this. Also, the signal doesn't seem as seem as strong as say the TV remote. Great design, glossy finish, but probably returning this product do to its lack of functions.

The only thing keeping this remote fro having five stars is that the channel change button only works within Xbox, not your TV. It does do power and volume on TV so it has universal features. Not sure why they left that feature off. Otherwise, it is perfect for navigating the new dashboard without having to use the gaming controllers.

Channel button doesn't work for TVs

    Haldr

The summary says it all, I don't have cable and mostly needed this to change channels on my TV but for some reason neither the channel up/down buttons nor the channel numbers work. If they worked, this would be a much more positive review but the lack of this basic functionality is puzzling and completely disappointing.

I've been wanting to get a remote for the XBOX for a while. This has been a great investment. I don't have to worry about keeping the controller on while watching a Netflix movie or listening to Last.fm. With the remote, just point and click. I even set it up to turn on the TV.

This remote for the price, works great. I know the controller included with the XBOX does everything the remote does.. well almost. However, the remote is much smaller, light weight, and is a breeze to setup. It works better with my TV than the original remote did.

Poorly Designed for everyday use. Using an XBOX as a remote extender, requires the use of the numeric keypad for channel changes, and is diffiult for using with a single hand, as most remotes easily permit. If just using for DVD / Netflix remote, it's probably OK, but I rarely use it for that.

i got this remot about months ago it worked great for about 2 weeks then the remote lost some range and had to get up from my seat and put the remote 2 inches away from my xbox for it to work so if u are planning to use this all the time not the right choice for you

range is the worst thing, the controller needs to be directly pointing at the xbox. nothing compare to the one for the playstation 3. this should be something like $4.99 rather than $19.99. reason i didn't return it is because i only paid 5 dollars for it.
