I looked at my options for external display for my Surface. And basically I had 3. Docking station, wireless display, and mini display-to-HDMI adapter. And the cheapest one was the adapter. I am using it to connect it to my 55" 4K TV in my living room, and I can sit in my couch enjoying a great display with the clearest image. Wireless display was expensive and you did not get the full HD resolution. And I did not go for the docking station because I did not want to sit only at my desk. I wanted a more confortable way to check my e-mail and browse the web. I just connect my Logitech keyboard and mouse and via my Unifying software and adapter to the TV, and just sit back and start surfing .....

This adapter won't work if you are trying to connect the SP4 to an external monitor via HDMI if that monitor exceeds 1080p. I tried to use it with a 34" ultrawide that is 2560x1080 and it would not work. Microsoft does not provide any specs on the product, but it is a passive adapter. You need an ACTIVE mini dp to HDMI adapter to make the SP4 work properly with any external monitor that exceeds 1080p resolution. FYI, I found an active adapter online for less than twenty dollars and it works great. Otherwise, it is a solid and premium feeling product. My rating is based on the fact that it was seemingly designed for the surface line, but does not tell you it cannot exceed 1080p on that product.

I needed an adapter for an important presentation that I had to make. When I went to Best Buy, they were out of the Microsoft adapter so I purchased an after market model. When I got home and tried out the product, it worked for about 10 minutes and then it stopped. I tried this for about an hour and got very frustrated. I returned the adapter and had to travel several miles to find a Best Buy who had the Microsoft adapter in stock. It was well worth it in the end, because the Microsoft adapter worked flawlessly. My presentation went great with no technical difficulties. Don't waste your time and money on the after market stuff, go for the Microsoft adapter it is well worth it!

I did a lot of reading before buying this adapter. I had a surface book and a spare monitor at work. Brought the adapter home to only realize my monitor did not have an HDMI input. I felt like an idiot. We had an HDMI to VGA adapter and I plugged that in. The only thing was to get the monitor to wake up I had to keep unplugging replugging. It was someones personal adapter. Before returning the cable (I don't work close to Best Buy) another adapter was tried. And low and behold that adapter wakes up the monitor every time. I'm now very happy with my setup and this cable has worked great.

The previous adapter that was designed just for the surface pro 3 (before the surface pro 4 was released), was designed with a slant to conform to the side of the surface pro 3. This worked fine when just plugged into the surface pro 3 itself, but the latest docking station that is compatible with both the surface pro 3 & 4 will not fit this adapter due to that slant. Just FYI...if you will be using the docking station you will need this newer version of the cable (which is, for no apparent reason, $10 more than the previous cable). The adapter works perfectly though!

Works great with my Surface Pro 4. The cord has great length and the it fits well into the minidisplay port. This is the only adapter I have used with my Surface machine, but also my friend with a macbook used it on his machine and it worked fine too. Transfers high resolution display to a monitor or TV & does the job splendidly. You can find a best buy branded insignia model for a little cheaper if you shop around though. I'd still recommend this product & you know you're getting quality when it's manufactured from Microsoft!

I can't really complain, the device works as expected. I've had some minor issues, however, when plugging in my TV to my Surface Pro 4. After plugging in the device to the TV (via an HDMI cable), the Surface doesn't seem to realize the TV can play audio. To play audio through the TV, I need to reboot my Surface with the device plugged in. once I do that, however, I don't have any issues and everything works as expected. I just need to do that any time I leave the device detached for an extended period of time. Weird.

I needed a multi-adapter for the Surface Book Pro I bought recently. Microsoft recommended their own adapter with only a single HDMI port for $49.99. I found this gem online at Amazon for $12 and it has ports for HDMI, VGA and DVI. I've had a couple of issues where the adapter didn't work with a Webex / GoToMeeting / Citrix session, however, 95% of the time this tool works perfectly and allows me to have 2 screens, one screen on my laptop for email and the other screen for another application to do my work.

Microsoft doesn't tell you this, but this adapter will not work with the Surface Dock - it only works if you use it directly into your surface. If you want to use HDMI with your dock you need to buy an "active" adapter. The one from Plugable is well-regarded, and apparently solves people's problems with the Dock. It runs about $20, quite a bit less that this one. If you are having problems running your monitor from your Surface Dock, this is the problem you're having. You need a different adapter.

One of the challenges about the mostly awesome Microsoft Surface Pro 4 is the lack of ports. Basically, you have a USB and the mini-DisplayPort. In my case, the USB is taken up by the wireless dongle for the mouse, so to connect the tablet to a monitor requires this device. It's solidly built and works as directed. This adaptor is a good alternative, too, to the overpriced docking station Microsoft sells, if all you are doing is connecting to a monitor.

I purchased for my girlfriends Surface 3 since she refuses to upgrade to a Pro 4 like I did. Doesn't want to wireless stream I guess. So if you want to just display on another screen than this cable will work for you. Now the only reason I'm giving it 3 stars is No sound. Major draw back. Whats the point in using an HDMI input on a TV if your not going to allow sound too. My suggestion save the money and upgrade but if your just looking for a secondary monitor well then here ya go.

Purchased this to connect up to a 4K display. This adapter definitely does NOT support 4K at 60hz! If you're looking for that for your Surface Pro, you'll need to set it up using a display port cable. This cable works but is not a good value considering that it doesn't support 4K @ 60hz. It does work for your typical HD display resolutions. I'd recommend it for use to connect to HD displays/monitors/projectors but would not recommend it for 4K!

If you have a Surface and need adapters for your monitor(s), do not buy any other brand except the Microsoft branded adapters. These are guaranteed to work with your surface without any other downloading figuring out etc. they are truly plug in play. My entire company uses surfaces for their PCs and we have always had trouble with other branded adapters. Stick with the Microsoft ones you will have zero issues with your displays.

This is the type of product I would normally shop around for to get the best price. My sentiment is that cables and connectors are all relatively similar despite massive differences in price. This is no different. It works very well (no drivers to load, just plug n play) and delivers crisp video from my Lenovo laptop to my external monitor. Pros - works great, easy to use Con - very expensive for what it is

Note: Verify hdmi port on monitor - configuration may not be the same as your TV. Plug in port on surface pro...plug into external monitor or tv. Automatically installs drivers...tweeks to screen size and icon placement needed, but, this is an excellent option for those wanting an inexpensive solution to a "desktop" surface pro. Also recommend adding a powered USB hub to extend that 1 usb port and add a wireless mouse and keyboard.

I own a surface book. I was very concerned about hooking my HDMI monitor to it. I've read a lot of things about whether a cable was "Active" or "Passive" and monitors not waking up when the machine starts up. I decided that I'd get this converter and give it a go. It works great. It even works great with an HDMI to VGA adapter plugged into it. I've been pleased with this item and would recommend it if you have the need.

I've tried a number of output methods for my Surface, this is the only one I fully trust. I like the wireless display adapter but it has too much latency for some situations. I appreciated the cheaper price of some other adapters and cords, but ocassionally have weird things happen when using them. If you have a Surface, save yourself some headache and just have one of these to keep with you.

I purchased this adapter for our company laptop which we use for public meetings and presentations on the go. I carry this adapter and a regular adapter in the bag so no matter what the setup we can connect without an issue. It works very well with our Microsoft Surface Book, it clicks in with no issues and fits perfectly and looks nice with the surface to keep things consistent.

I had been been excited to get to BB after Christmas and get this to view Amazon Prime movies. Unfortunately, they only had one and it was a rare bad one from Microsoft. I kept thinking it was me not understanding how the whole shebang worked, but when I returned it the very kind BB salesman tried to use it with his Surface and mine. It just didn't work and they had no others in stock.

Adapter does what it's supposed to, but I wished it was a little bit longer so the larger, molded end that's the female HDMI would sit on the table while the tablet is standing up with the keyboard. It kinda hangs from it as is, and the mini display connector is small. Otherwise, seems high quality. I would recommend it, but would also consider looking for a longer one.
