    48 Hour Wait For Activation

I bought a new computer today from Best Buy. I needed Office, so I went ahead and bought this product key card. The otherwise helpful gentleman at Best Buy said it was what I needed. After getting all of the necessary updates done on the new laptop, I decided to install office. After opening the key card, I went to the website indicated and it tells me that the PIN in the card cannot be used for a free download. So, VERY concerned that I may not be able to get a refund, I called Microsoft. After being connected to your typical third worlder who was barely understandable, I explained my predicament. She says it takes FORTY EIGHT HOURS for their "system" to recognize that the key card has been purchased. A waiting period for a software puchase? I'm wondering if Microsoft thinks it is selling guns. So basically, I just spent $200 on software that I cannot use for two days, if at all (I'm still concerned because the laptop I bought had 2007 preinstalled, but the Microsoft lady from Eastern Outer Mongolia said it won't matter). If you need the software NOW like I did, DO NOT BUY A KEYCARD, unless you have a minute or two to download the trial version to get you through. This is a HORRIBLE way to sell software.

Address Book and Favorites from Office 2003 will not import properly. Received about 2/3 of the data, with no pattern of which data was not transferred. Will not run an Excel stock quote application that I have run successfully for 7 years. Less capability than 2003! Microsoft techs in India and world headquarters in Washington can not solve this probllem and admit that the old feature is not supported. They scheduled two conference call with me and did not call - I wasted an entire afternoon sitting by the phone for the scheduled 2:00 call! Many features have changed and are no longer intuitive. I am returning the software to Microsoft. May try Office 2007, but probably will switch to MAC.

This product had a cost of $99.99 for a SINGLE PC! if you check the sales, you can buy the same product for THREE computers for a single family for $129.99. (MSRP is $149.99) The Key code from the 3 user pack should activate the pre-installed version (make sure they are the save version, (Microsoft office 2010 Home and Student) then you can install on two more PC's at home.

I gave this a one star rating because there is no negative option available. If you have a smart phone that you need to sync to Outlook, this will not work for you. I had to down grade my client to Outlook 2007 and put them on Open Office. Furthermore the user interface is a drastic change and has a very steep learning curve. Due to the fact that the majority of users just need to create basic documents and get their email, I do not see the value in the new user interface or the new "features".

The registration just takes a few minutes. The reactivation [when necessary] takes about ten minutes. Microsoft changed some things around. Tools is no longer there, "out of office" notification is really hard to configure. But, it's better than Gmail by a mile!

I hope it turns out to be better than Vista, however, too soon to tell. One thing I miss is that when I open a spreadsheet or file in Windows, there is not a tab to use to view recently viewed files like in Vista. I have to keep going back to my documents.

What can I say about MicroSoft. I am a charter member of SPOGGE. Society for the Prevention of Gates Getting Everything. Actually MS Office is a fine product. I did have issues with the activation and registration, but it did get resolved eventually.

    Good Microsoft Office Suite but...

For the most part this software is very good. But somehow the Outlook in this suite is giving me problems. I suspect a file or something is corrupt. Therefore, I am taking it in to Geek Squad to have this issue resolved.

I did not realize when I ordered the product that I was only getting a product key, I thought I was getting a CD to download. One that I could have handy as a back up. This is a real pain!!

On the phone twice with Microsoft for a total of 2 hours trying to load it. They told me it was a common problem. Program is great and everything you need for home and office.
