Well worth upgrading from Office 2008

I gave it 2 stars for value, because in this day and age- office productivity applications should be dirt cheap. The new Office is great to use. Finally the formatting doesn't get mangled anymore when switching between Windows and Mac OS. Outlook seems barebones compared to Office for Windows, but I haven't found any missing features, so it must be an aesthetics thing. Outlook for Mac has Microsoft Exchange support and syncs notes (unlike Entourage). Microsoft started using the ribbon instead of the ghastly (and cluttered) palettes (though the palettes can still be activated through Options). There are still dropdown menus in addition to the ribbon, but you won't need them as much as you did before. They added some great animations to PowerPoint that really give your presentations some flare. I've had numerous people approach me wanting to know if I was using the "new" Office, because my animations were amazing. Word added a nifty 'notebook' template. At first I thought it was OneNote combined into Word, but after opening the same document in Windows, I realized that the 'notebook' was merely an illusion using margins, tables and headers. Most of the other features will be familiar to you if you already use Office 2010 or 2007 for Windows. NOTE FOR EXCEL USERS: Excel 2011 doesn't let you install the Analysis Toolpak. :-( There is a Mac alternative called StatPlus, but you're better off running Excel in Parallels 6 if you're going to be using the data analysis tools often. Most everything else works the same as Windows though. There is NO PUBLISHER for Mac still, so if you're ever in a jam and need to open Publisher or Access files, then be sure to have Windows installed via Parallels or Boot Camp, because you will not be a happy camper when that moment comes if you're not prepared. There is an OpenOffice alternative that opens Publisher files, but you will run into formatting issues. For Microsoft Project users, there's a program called OpenProj that's free. It works really well and is compatible with Microsoft Project. Visio is still better used in Windows also. While Office 2011 will suffice for most of your day to day office productivity, there will still be occasions where certain users need access to Office for Windows.

I was reluctant to purchase this version of Office since the reviews were not that great. However I needed Office since that is the business standard. I switched to Mac and did not see to many other options. The first couple of months it worked just fine with just a couple of small things that Outlook would not do. Then in the early part of April some updates were released and those small things were corrected. Now by all accounts it is a full functioning version of Office, just like you would get with Office 2010 (Windows version). I would recommend this software to anybody that needs it. There are several apps out there that have the same functions and are slightly cheaper. If you do choose this software I would strongly suggest staying current with the updates as I found Microsoft is working to make the software better.

Poor Review for Poor Activation Issues

Purchased this via BB.com for in-store pickup. Picked it up. Two days later opened box to install. Box comes with a card with a "PIN" number. You are directed to go to MS.com/mac/get key, enter the PIN, and supposedly MS gives you an activation code to write down on this card for installation. However, after I entered my PIN at MS, I get a message telling me my PIN is not active, and that I need to take the software back to site of purchase and have them activate it first. I only live 45 minutes away from my nearest Best Buy. Great. I call BB. They say they've had a few of this same issue come up, and they can't fix it over the phone. I have to bring in my purchase and they will get me a new activation card! I love BB. I'm sure this is not their fault. Let's be honest...it's MS we're talking about here. I'm thinking I'll just return this MS GARBAGE, get my $200 bucks back, and invest in more Apple software that is actually amazing, user friendly, and fun to work with!!!

    Outlook is useless to me

My first experience with a MacBook Pro and I thought I HAD to have Office for Mac; why not, it would be a familiar friend in the strange new world of Apple, right? Not necessarliy so. While the basic interface of Word and Excel are familiar, Powerpoint is a little confusing and Outlook is completely useless. A week after I installed I lost all of my contacts which were syncing with Mobile Me. The explanation from Apple Support, "We dont recommend using Outlook for Mac with Apple products. Please contact Microsoft." Really? Wow, that was the primary reason for my purchase of Office.

Microsoft Office for Mac lacks features of a PC

I was shocked to learn many of the features I took for granted in Office for PC (Microsoft Office 2010) were not included in the Mac version. For example in Outlook there is no insert table function or if you insert a picture you cannot resize it. The work around is to do your composing in Word and then cut and paste into Outlook. Some of the sync functions of Outlook PC to Smartphones are not there. I cannot sync my Outlook address book to my Android Bionic. My work around was to sync outlook to the Mac Address book and then sync the phone to the Mac Address book.

I am very disappointed as it was advertised as finally having Outlook. The calendar and contact portion will not sync properly with exchange or IMAP. If you use IMAP like google apps or gmail and are hoping for a familiar program like Outlook to manage your calendars and contacts save your money!

Lacks many features from the Windows version like read receipt request, automatic spell check before sending, Outlook connector so POP emails/folders can be synched, etc. Also, Blackberry doesn't synch Outlook contact email fields. Major pain. Typically Microsoft, a company that knows nothing about innovation or customer service.

I upgraded from home office 2007 and the upgrade was easy to accomplish. I am still getting acquainted with the options included in the 2011 version, I was ab le to sync with my business bank with the 2004 version so with the 2011 version, it is flawless process

Office for Mac 2011(Home & Business) is not the same as earlier versions for Windows. I miss not having Publisher in the suite and have been waiting for the Dummies book to come out so I can fine tune my maneuvering around the product. I probably would have been ok just using iWorks and Mail instead.

Does what you need. Does not include Publisher, which is fine. I have Quark Express and InDesign which turn Publisher into a joke.
