Microsoft got it right this time

I believe Microsoft got it right this time, based on what I've seen so far. MS Office 2007 was a productivity killer for heavy 2003 users like me. With the new 2010 version I have none of the same issues and is the product that 2007 should have been. There's still the ribbon bar but users will see more of the familiar navigation structure from 2003. As someone who does a lot of web site design and graphic presentations for business, what I really appreciate is how you can create controlled gradiants, 3D text and graphic elements in PowerPoint using techniques that rival those of much more expensive and far less intuitive tools. You can save any PowerPoint element/group of elements as a png and then use it on a web page. Personally I'm not disappointed that MS Outlook is missing from the home and student version, but some who need this will need to pay for the more expensive version, this time with no upgrade pricing.

Slightly better than Office 2007 but with problems

They've improved on 2007 by taking snippets of earlier versions and recommendations from users. Still looks a lot like Office 2007. Installation ask you to keep previous versions or over-write. Expected more that what I got. Do, try the free trial version from Microsoft first. I purchased a retail copy with sealed packaging. During install, my registration key would not take! I could not find a telephone number to Microsoft in the packaging. The help software lead me in circles and mainly referenced Office 2007. Microsoft was not completely ready for distribution of this product. I'd wait a few more months. I suspect that a major service pack will be out that will fix many of the security problems that I have already found.

I was doing an upgrade from 2003 to 2010. I use 2007 at work so I was familiar with the way it looks. Love the upgrades and the things you can do with power point. I bought the Access package last time (2003) as I do a lot of data work but almost none of my clients can use Access they all use Excel so I got the home/business edtion this time. I wouldn't buy professional unless you really have to have Access and need the functions it offers. So I think that MS got the bundles correct this time and saved me 300 bucks. The install program didn't work right and it took me a long time to get it to work. God help you if you have to call customer support. There is no such thing at MS.

    Good on one laptop, but...

Had some problems loading this version. Don't really understand why and had a friend over that is a computer expert, and he couldn't figure it out. I had no problems loading this onto my new laptop that had Windows 7. But then when I tried on my laptop with Vista, it threw out an error message every time I inserted the disk. For several weeks, we worked on the problem and were thinking of installing the operating system from scratch when my daughter started her classes for Fall semester and low and behold, was taking a computer class and one of the books was Office (lower version than what I had purchases). It loaded without one single moment of difficulty. So, can't say why, but had trouble with the version I purchased, but a version lower worked just fine.

Long time Word user. This version has many nice features that present options at point of use. However, commonly used functions such as paste after copy and changing font and size of font take 8-12 seconds each to complete. This is unacceptably slow. Returning to an XP computer and MS Office XP. Bug: Every 3rd or 4th time mouse right click does not display multiple options as expected. Only option is "Insert Header". The MS solution was to place a red "remove header" button to make correcting this bug simpler.

Before spending all of the money for the New Microsoft Office, Download the trail version @Microsoft.com. It is different then Office 2003 and 2007. this is slower and more requirements for the hardware. It is not a bad price for the student edition, but the professional is very high priced.

My computer came with a pre-installed trial version of office that seemed to fight with this key code's installation. I had to delete the trial completely from my computer and start fresh with just the key's download. The instructions don't tell you how to get around that and the key code you purchase will NOT plug into the free trial verson and activate/update that version at all.

Lets be realistic people. If your going to use a windows operating system, you will be more than likely be using microsoft office. Office hasnt really changed much for previous series, the only good thing about it is that itsa bit more streamlined and works well with online capibilities now. For basic publishing, documentation, and other office related tasks its all you need.

    Could not get to download

I received email saying to click 'here' to download. I clicked and nothing happened. Tried several times, all with the same result. Was on the phone for at least an hour trying to get it resolved - was transferred several times, still with no resolution. Eventually went back to Best Buy, and I had to pay an additional $50 to purchase the CD to download.

This is a good product and Microsft has done some improvements on Office. My discontent was that I got a single use product key card when I thought I was getting a 3 use CD (only $30 more) It was all loaded on my computer by the Geek Squad so by the time I discovered the error it was too late.

Online retrieval & setup using key code difficult

Product is fine, just that installing over top Office 2007 using the online key retrieval & verification process was rather difficult. It took a few tries to figure out what was a product code vs. key code from the provided information; steps & process not easy.

I think I may have overbought on this one. I really only needed a word processing program. I will probably never use the other features (Excel, Powerpoint, et al). However, Word 2010 in more user friendly than the Word 2000 I was using.

I've been using this for quite a while now and I love it. It evolved just enough to look new and be exciting. The new features are great AND useful. I will say that it didn't change enough from Office 2007 to make it difficult. Definitely worth buying.

I am thrilled with the new version. It is well worth the cost. PowerPoint and Word have extra features and ease of settings. There are programs such as One Note. It has to be experienced by the consumer to enjoy all the extra's.

I needed this program for school. It was advertised that the program came installed on my new laptop, however, only the test version was actually installed. I had to purchase the full software also.

Product key cards are a pain to work with. Takes much more time than necessary. If it wasn't for the software that I am normally using, I would never purchase via key cards.

Works great, install was done at Best Buy. It does all it is supposed to do, and I would recommend it for basic applications.
