Great idea but to many bugs
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I also return my surface book and will look to see what happens with the next release. It!s hard to express how fed up I am with microsoft. They sold us what they called a premium product and they asked a premium price for it and I was OK with that but that is not what I received. Both my HP desktop and my Dell laptop have preformed without any problems out of the box for years. I an no Apple fan boy but microsoft needs to take a hard look at what they are dolng and then look at what Apple has been doing for there customer base.

Needs keyboard to be decent
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I wanted the flexibility of a tablet but also a traditional keyboard. I was surprised that the only ports are on the keyboard, so you have to be attached to the keyboard to use anything via USB. Also, once removed, I found poor battery - so I returned the item. Resetting prior to return was an extreme hassle also.

Switched From MacBook Pro, Fantastic Laptop
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My primary computer before this was a Macbook Pro 15". Had trouble getting time on "my" computer as the kids got older. So decided to get another one. Was initially thinking another Macbook, however, I was at a conference last week and saw someone using Surface Book (SB). I was blown away with the note taking capability. So I researched it and was very impressed with the specs and functionality of the SB. The screen resolution is incredible and looks fantastic. The ability to take off the screen and use as a tablet works great and it is a great tablet on its own. However, the pen use on this laptop is incredible. I have have retired my paper notebook and have gone paperless using One Note. You can write just as good as paper (and erase), it works very well. I ended getting the i7, 16 GB RAM, and 512 GB Storage with Performance Base. Best Buy matched the best price I found online which was great. I have setup the look and feel to be just like my MacBook pro and have not missed a beat on performance or ease of use. iTunes installed and worked fine so I have all my media to watch. Also, like the facial recognition, no password or fingerprint needed which is great! The fit and finish of this laptop is incredible and equal or better than the MacBook Pro in my opinion. Overall the performance, versatility and functionality of this laptop is fantastic and so far I have been very happy with it.

Always Freezes
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am very disappointed, especially since it was 3 times higher than other laptops. Half the time when I grab it to take notes, it won't turn on but rather spends an hour or more updating. Yesterday it was updating for over 24 hours. Not handy when you actually plan to use it. The battery isn't as great as advertised and the plug-in connector always falls off. No, I'd not buy this brand again.

Near Perfection
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm glad I waited. It was so difficult to resist buying a Surface Book last October when they first came out. Reviews were overwhelmingly positive, but lamented various bugs. Subsequent reviews starting summer 2016 more or less confirmed that all those bugs had been resolved with firmware and OS improvements, but by that time I started to expect there might be a hardware refresh around the holidays. Well, this is it. This is what I waited for, and I'm so glad I did. The look and finish is fantastic. Awesome glass trackpad that feels great, is accurate, responsive, and executes Windows 10 touch gestures perfectly. The screen is incredibly high resolution with rich colors, and super bright. Be careful though. If you are in bed with the lights off and you toggle through the brightness settings, you can almost be blinded by the brightest setting! I am not being hyperbolic by any means. The OS compliments the hardware perfectly. Or... is it the other way around? The sound is much, much better than expected. I had the original Surface Pro which had the worst and most inaudible sound of any device I've owned. Yet, the Surface Book delivers great stereo sound and I frequently have to run it at 60% or less to avoid annoying my family members. What else... I am mainly using this for a business daily driver, but decided to test the GPU in gaming. Again, no disappointment here. I ran Fallout four fullscreen at max resolution and max settings and it is BUTTER smooth. The SSD seems to be excellent at both reads and writes, but I haven't run any benchmarks. The only cons I can find really are that the fans can occasionally be a bit louder than I'd like.

From a windows and mac user...
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Let me first say that I love both Windows and iOS. I believe they both bring quality to the table. I built a windows pc for gaming but everything else I've always had (for school/work/picture editing) I always used iOS. *I bought this beautiful machine 17 days ago This time I wanted to give Windows some love though and bought this beautiful machine. Out of the box everything worked great at first but then the very next day it wouldn't turn even turn on but I was able to trouble shoot it through searching the web - it turns out its a popular problem with the Surface family and requires to just hold down the power button for about 10 seconds but why should I have to do something like that with a premium computer? Anyways, I figured that I could live with that issue. Then came another problem which is the opposite of the first issue - this time the computer would randomly freeze and wouldn't even turn off if pressing the power button. This problem fixes itself after about 3 minutes though but again, why should I have to deal with that? The final problem for me which prompted me to perform a factory reset so I could return it was that the wifi kept cutting in and out...it was extremely annoying, especially when you're working on a project which requires you to be logged onto a server. So that was the last straw for me and now I have a macbook pro. Oh one more problem I ran into was that there was some type of miscommunication with its screen detach mechanism because sometimes the right-side connectors would sort of come loose and not stay connected. I would subsequently have to push it in myself. What I liked -Pen - allowing me to take notes and draw (this was probably my favorite feature about it -Versatility - I loved that it could detach (when I wanted it to), it made taking notes in class a breeze -Drawboard PDF works flawlessly with the pen..If you use powerpoints in class then you can just write on each powerpoint during lectures -Its premium look and feel What I didn't like -Wifi extremely unreliable -Screen detaching mechanism is faulty sometimes -Machine freezes -Cannot turn on sometimes (without power-cycling it) -Cannot turn off sometimes (fixes itself in about 3 minutes) *If it wasn't for the wifi connectivity then I would have kept it because I really loved the ability to take notes on it in class (on the powerpoints). **Maybe I was just unlucky and got a faulty one

Good Idea, Poor Quality
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When I spend $2,000+ on a laptop, I expect something great. I got it, used it for about an hour, and I realized there was a dead pixel on the bottom left. The associate was shocked to see that. I then got another one, and it lagged horribly. It took forever to open applications, the trackpad was horrible, and it was just slow. I then brought it back and ended up buying a macbook pro (so much better, haven't had any issues with it).

Beware - Better Buy Extended Warranty
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Although the Surface Book is beautiful to behold, it will likely cause extreme frustration or die. See 'Consumer Reports' for August 2017 where one quarter of the survey respondents said their machines had problems within two years. Accordingly, Consumer Reports revoked their recommendation. My very expensive Surface Book (i7, 16GB, 512GB SSD) completely died shortly after the warranty expired--wish I had bought Best Buy's extended warranty. My only hope is to have Microsoft replace it for another $599 + tax.

Do NOT waste your money
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Okay so I've used this computer only 3 times, charged it when needed, put it back in the box after using it (because it was for college). I try to turn it on at college and it does nothing. It turns out, the computer had an internal hardware malfunction and I needed to replace it. Just save yourself the trouble and buy another computer. Because more likely than not, the same thing will happen to you.

Freezes Up
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had high hopes for this laptop, but they were not achieved. This computer locks up and the video pixelates several times a day. Read the Microsoft Forum, it is a common issue and has not been addressed as far as I can tell. The only way past the lock up, is holding the power button down for many seconds. Beware.
