    Beautiful Centerpiece to Multimedia Workflow

The Surface Book with performance base is all I could ask for as a central workspace for graphic and multimedia design. I have been using this for just about a month with the Surface Dock. When I'm mobile, it is light and compact enough to take with me wherever I go. The battery life is incredible for a laptop with higher end components. I get about 12 hours if I am just doing email, video streaming, or basic browsing. If I am doing high end Photoshop work I get about 7 hours with the base and about 4 hours with just the tablet. I also love the multiple ways I can use the device. The new magnet attachment for the pen is a vast improvement over the Surface Pro series Pen Loop. I would highly recommend this device for someone looking for a portable powerhouse with good battery life.

I love how light the removable touch screen is and how great the stylus works! The new improved battery life and high performance specs also makes it a more reliable work horse.

I have the i7, 16gb, 512gb with the Performance Base and only wish I had the ability to add more hard drive storage. I have installed the baseIQ sd card adapter for additional storage so I am good for now. everything else about the computer has been great. battery life has improved and the keyboard is awesome. for some reason the computer runs hot when running basic games like star wars commander the fan will really be noticeable when pushing the system hard. under normal use it is quiet as a mouse. I would recommend this system to those looking for a convertible with great battery life and an awesome keyboard.

My back pack will be lighter next semester because I will have this laptop/ tablet to compile notes in instead. This convertible machinery is awesome because I can choose rather I want top be in laptop mode or with the press of a single button disconnect and I've got a tablet. The battery life last an entire day's usage at school. I can draw, highlight on Power point slide or just take notes. This computer also learns to read your hand writing that means I can write my notes down and have them translated into Times New Roman, if necessary.

I would be tempted to rate this Surface 4 stars because of the price but I've gone with 5 stars because, while it IS expensive, it is an amazingly versatile device. I use this for work, running Adobe CC for web and video work and it is consistently fast and runs without hiccups. It is amazing as a tablet, much more functionality than my iPad. And, I always have my work with me not matter how I'm using it. With a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse, along with two monitors it makes for a very substantial workstation which then quickly becomes a laptop for travel and a tablet for meetings (or vice versa). Yes, expensive, but worth it!

My only issue is the fonts are sooo tiny that I was getting migraines each day from using it.. Realized the issue and adjusted the font size.. now the screen looks so tiny but no more eye strain. I would suggest a larger hard drive as I am almost at max already but this was the only option available that day. Speed of processing is fantastic and it does everything it has been asked to do. loading everything from my old computer via an external hard drive took 8 hours to put ON the external but only 1hr max to get the info off the external and onto the the surface.. very happy with it so far.

Screen size is excellent for the traveler or user who cannot be tied to external screens. Performance is great even using the most intensive programs (Adobe, Autodesk, lite rendering). The 'gap' in the hinge is annoying but the hinge itself does provide a nice grip if you are frequently moving from desk to conference to table. Weight is a bit of an issue but the looks and performance make up for this. Hardware isn't 'gamer' spec but I don't think MS had them in mind. Remember: this limited review is for the high-end model with Performance Base

    Powerful Laptop

The Surface Book with Performance base is a great laptop. I purchased an HP Spectre 360 before this and it had a ghost touching problem that rendered the laptop useless. I returned it. This reminded me that I have had too many bad laptops from Dell, HP, Toshiba, Lenovo over the years so I figured I would spend the cash on this (admitted expensive) laptop. After a couple of months of use, I have not been disappointed. The laptop can handle any task I throw at it including large powerpoints with a lot of pics, multiple programs open at the same time, along with some light photo and video editing. I am not much of gamer, but most reviews report this laptop can handle moderate gaming. The screen is bright, the pen/stylus is responsive and very useful and the trackpad is one of the best I have used on PC (closest to a mac I have used yet, mac still has the best trackpads). When it comes to big multitasking projections, Windows 10 is still the best (this is where I find my Mac is just too painful to use, mostly because of OS). Finally the detachable feature is fun when I want to workout. I pop off the screen and can watch a video for a 1-2 hours while I run the treadmill. I have also have used it to scan documents and sign...a very helpful feature. Finally, the battery life has been amazing. I just charged my laptop and it currently reports about 13hrs of use left and I would say this is pretty accurate. A few negative I report would include the occasional Windows forced update, cost of the laptop and weight (it is a bit heavy, but I would expect this with all of the batteries in there, overall the weight hasn't been a bother). Overall I would highly recommend this laptop to any professional who needs a capable and functional laptop that will (hopefully) last for years.

I myself am using a Surface Pro 4, and I have many users on the Surface Pro 3 as well. I just rolled out this Surface Book to a couple of users and they are very pleased. Nice power, nice battery life, and the biggest plus is the extra horsepower on the Video card.

Purchased as a replacement laptop for project management in the office and field. So powerful I've replaced my desktop. Absolutely seamless transition from traditional laptop to tablet and back to laptop. Performance base adds additional battery life, full size keyboard that's comfortable and easy to use.

I purchased a book with the i7 chip and am very happy with the speed. Detaching/attaching the tablet is easy, pen is easy to use as well - lots of hints on how to use it. Minor complaint - letters on keyboard are not contrasting color. Hard to see which key to push when using it in bright light.

I am typically a Mac user but I took a chance and purchased the Surface Book primarily because of the touch screen/drawing aspect. In the first couple of days after receiving this laptop, I honestly thought about returning it because of the different operating systems. Now it is 3 weeks later and I am so glad that I kept it!! Windows Apps definitely offer more than Apple does and I have really enjoyed using this laptop!

Although it sometimes freezes, it does a great job. Its fast and pretty easy to get used to. I came from a desktop at work and backing up my work every night to take home to using the surface book pro and plugging it into the docking station to use with my desktop monitor, keyboard and mouse, At night and for travel i just use the computer.
