I'm surprised by the quality and performance of this laptop. I bought the i7, 512GB SSD version, which is plenty of power and storage. it's light-weighted, solid-built and looks nice. I definitely like surface book. Ultrabooks have been popular this years, but a quality-built one is rare. Surface book is the one, if you can pay the premium

This is the best laptop I've ever had. Easily. My previous laptop - a MacBook Air - was fine for awhile but numerous factors made me need to start looking at an upgrade. After waiting to see what the new MacBook Pro would bring (and being quite unimpressed), I decided it was time to switch back to Windows. Having Windows on my home desktop and work laptop (an HP EliteBook), I've never fallen out of the loop with the OS and had no problem jumping right in. I quickly got used to the extra bulk and weight of my Surface Book over the MBA and it is of no consequence to me. The trade off for the features, the ability to remove/flip my screen, use the Surface Pen,... It's all worth it. I read a lot of reviews and looked at a lot of laptops before settling on this, with the Dell XPS in a close second. But in the end, I made my choice and could not be happier with it. This is, in my opinion, the perfect laptop.

This is blazing fast when compared to the Surface Pro. I enjoy the ability to move from a true Laptop to a Windows Tablet. I wish that the Windows Store had more apps like the Playstore or The App Store but the essential apps are all there.

I bought this laptop for work and some casual gaming. It has good battery life when doing basics like microsoft office or internet. It is very smooth in operation. When gaming the games look great and it is smooth however the battery life sucks down fast about 1 1/2 hours. I really do like the product wish it would have been less money but overall very solid performance.

I'm in love with a machine

I owned a Surface Pro 3 and loved ALMOST everything about it. I hated the kick-stand, which (IMO) rendered it almost useless as an actual "laptop" computer. The stand made it awkward for airline tray tables, lap use, etc... I've wanted a Surface Book since they were introduced so when my poor SP3 drew her last breath while I was on a business trip, I borrowed a coworker's laptop and located the closest Best Buy that had the SB I wanted in stock. An hour later, I was in my hotel room downloading Office and syncing files. Let me say... the Microsoft OS and native applications don't make for a good tablet in my opinion... I didn't buy this to be a fancy tablet. The SB with the power base is as close to laptop nirvana as I believe you can actually get. Every little nuisance that I just put up with on my Surface Pro 3, has been eliminated with the Surface Book. I love it... I wish Microsoft was paying me on commission for every one of these that I've recommended and sold for them. I'm a believer!

As a work computer where I extend the display to other monitors, it doesn't keep the connection well. I'm constantly having to restart after it goes into hibernation in order to get the programs and icons to layout correctly (size and position). Otherwise, its fast and handy when it comes to working in the field and presenting to clients with the monitor detached.

I am an engineer who needed a portable computing solution to run extensive calculations, as well as serve as a computer to help me run my business. This is a great solution for both. With an i7 processor and 16-GB of RAM, solving orbital analyses is possible with a computer that doubles as a tablet. My only quip is that sometimes it fails to come back from sleep/standby and I need to reboot, which means I have to bring all my work back up.

    The Ultimate 2 in 1

I have had my Surface Book for about a month now and this is an awesome computer. The shell is top notch, easily on par with anything Apple or Razer are building. The display is excellent and the 3x2 ratio is very good for computing and gives you ample surface area while using the drawing applications. The speakers, keyboard and mouse are all also great. The computer minus the price is top of the line. The only real complaint is that I think they should have included at least one USB-C port. Even though there are not a lot of them yet, it will be the connection on the future. Graphics are actually really good, much better than I expected. I am not really an elite gamer, but I do play some older games and it does play all them quite well. The only potential thing for gaming is to set the resolution to 1080p and you get smooth frame-rates for even newer games. You can watch my video review here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PSg3N3lD0O0 Overall * The Surface Book is the best hybrid tablet/laptop device money can buy and showcases Windows 10 at its best * It is very well constructed, well designed and powerful enough to give the higher end laptops a run for their money * Performance combined with excellent battery life makes this an incredible mobile device * Only things that I wished this had was * Kaby Lake Processor * Nvidia 10 series video card * And at least 1 USB-C Port * Other than that, I really like the Surface Book and would recommend it. However just keep in mind that the new Surface Book with all of those things is probably not too far away.

Good quality laptop. Nice resolution and solidly built. Touch screen works great. Good battery life. This is the first laptop I've bought for myself in 10+ years so take it for what it's worth. I probably didn't need the power base but nice to know I've got the extra power if needed. Wish it closed flat.

    I finally pulled the trigger...

I came very close to purchasing the original Surface Book when it was released but after reading many reviews I opted not to. Fast forward to the release of the new Performance Base model...I decided to do it. I think the final kicker was the upgrade to the dedicated graphics. My usage is split between gaming (Fallout 4 mostly), web surfing (tablet mode) and a work laptop. This system is a great balance of all three. Its not a hard core gaming rig. If you're looking for that - look elsewhere. If I had one criticism of the Surface Book w/ Performance Base, it would be that the tablet battery life is a little light. If you were thinking you would use it mostly as a tablet without the base, I would recommend looking more towards the Surface Pro 4. However, if you need a good balanced rock solid machine - this is your device.

The machine is a very well balanced machine for performance and work flexibility with the touch screen and tablet capabilities. it is definitely an upgrade from a surface pro but I am still working to determine its advantage over the standard surface book in ters of the performance base.

This laptop/tablet is perfect for me. I am an artist and this is way better than a mac! More flexibility and it's not too heavy with the performance base! So glad I went for it as it was not cheap. Very happy with my purchase!

    Surface Book Workhorse

This surface book is a beast. I use computers primarily for video editing and occasionally as a tablet. This works perfectly for both. High end 4k footage tends to struggle a bit on this machine, but does very well with all other kinds of footage. The dedicated GPU graphics card in this machine is not the greatest and is my only complaint. I really wish it was a much better card for the money spent. Outside of that the machine is awesome!
