Terrible Charging
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have had this computer for about 4 or 5 months and it quit charging. Microsoft sent me a new charger and it also did not charge the computer. Finally, sent the computer off and get a REFURBISHED one (after spending 1300+ for a new one). Worst laptop purchase I have made. I would do anything to get my money back.

skipping cursor
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was so excited about this surface book as they have always been my favorite. The book was absolutely stunning. I bought it for school so that I didnt have to sit at my desktop writing papers all day every other day isolated from my family. In the midst of drafting a 10 page paper the cursor would skip and type over my previously written text. I reset, calibrated, then ultimately has to return. I am in a post grad program and typeover and cursor skipping can NOT be overlooked when doing papers and weekly discussions, no matter how beautiful the display and aestethic. I would love to get it another try but not at the expense of my degree.

Poor quality; disappointing GEEK squad “service”
||Posted . Owned for more than 2 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Would leave ZERO stars if I could; not even 2 years and the the keyboard isn’t “recognized” when plugged into the screen. Stuck in tablet mode even though I never used it as a tablet. Dropped it off to GEEK squad; which was a total waste of time. They had my laptop for a month, couldn’t fix it stating Microsoft “didn’t have the replacement part”. Geek squad offered NO resolution, except to call Microsoft.... What?!! Will never buy another Microsoft computer ever again! I have 2 MacBooks and never had any issues for 10 years!!

Not built to last
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this computer and was incredibly happy, until the keyboard shorted out exactly one year after purchase. Sadly, there is no way to replace the keyboard and since I didn’t purchase an extended warranty, it was a one year investment for a computer. If you want a computer that is good for one year, you will be happy with this one. If you are looking for something that will have a little more longevity, I would recommend Something different. I saw online that this is very common with a Microsoft surface.

Slow, bid, clunky build
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I really wanted to like this machine. It’s large, clunky and awkward to hold. Returned for something better. Build quality is good though. Just make sure it’s comfortable to work on if you buy.

24 months in computer is dead
||Posted . Owned for 1.5 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Used this computer for college. Took very good care of it. Here we are not even 2 years in and it will not charge any longer. (charger is not frayed. It even charges my phone off its USB port.) Geek squad said this is a common issue. Best to just send it to the graveyard and buy something new. Wow. A 2 year lifespan and it isn't surprising to the Geeks. Buyer beware!

Shorted out after 14 months!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this product in November 2018 and then in Feb 2020, it just wouldn't turn on. I never dropped it. Never mistreated. I always protected it because I used it for business. I went to the Microsoft Store and said that it shorted out and that nothing could be done. It happened just two months outside the 1-year warranty so I'm out of luck! Terrible service. Terrible product.

Broke after 2 years
||Posted . Owned for 1.5 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am a college student and used the computer freshman and sophomore year. During the summer it would one day not turn off. After getting it inspected the motherboard broke for unknown reasons. Should not have broken so easy for such a expensive computer.

Bought for wife, she loves it
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My wife has gone through about 4 laptops over the past few years and I overruled her and picked this one out online for her. She wanted to try it out in store but I knew how she used her laptops and the problems she kept having (broken keys from kids, power cords being bent) could be solved by this one. The least expensive one is fine for most people. If you don't play games, don't worry about the more $$ models with the discrete GPU. The flaw in the higher end models is that the battery can still be depleted while plugged in due to the GPU being used. A model without a GPU won't have that issue. Most people that would love this won't know the difference between processor speed and storage speed. This laptop felt extremely fast for my wife who was coming from a large traditional HD to flash for the first time. The downside is she will have to put a lot on an external HD for long term storage. As far as benchmarks, this laptop's i5 has about as much single core performance as my 2014 macbook pro with an i7 (but half the multicore). The key difference is this laptop's processor uses about 1/5th the power. For the bulk of users, my wife included, they won't notice the difference between 2 cores and 4, but will notice flash storage and long battery life.

Versatile and Powerful
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This machine is beautiful and stands out without you even showing off its detach feature. Yet, it is professional and not overly flashy. The display is sharp and responsive, and the keyboard is incredibly comfortable to use. The value of this machine lies mainly in the screen and how flexible it is in terms of how you can use it. If I am in a rapid lecture, I have the Book in "laptop mode" for rapid typing. When I'm at home, I change it to studio mode to handwrite my notes and diagram out concepts. I do not use it much solely as a tablet because I need more battery life than it can offer me solely as a tablet. However, it converts to a tablet effortlessly without interrupting your work at all. You will want the surface pen if you are using this device for more than things like word processing, Excel, etc. It is unparalleled. The pen has a year warranty through Microsoft, so do not let its price deter you. I use my Book for vet school, and it has quickly become my reliable companion through the droves of material. It is an incredible machine for students. However, you must take care of it, as it is not easily serviced given how unique it is, and the fact it is a closed unit; usually, Microsoft will have to handle repairs. An accidental damage protection plan is almost a necessity. I went with Microsoft Complete. Take care of this device, and it will serve you very well!

Close to Perfect
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am a HUGE Microsoft fan and have a Surface Pro 3 & 4. I was looking forward to the release of the Surface Book 2 so I could upgrade to it. Buying one on the day it was released I am happy to say it is as great as I hoped. There is ONE small glitch that Microsoft should have corrected. On my Pro Tablets I was able to add a Micro Disc to add disc space. It tucked away neatly in the back of the tablet out of sight. On the Book it has a full size SDXC Card Reader. When you insert the card in it stick out about a half of an inch. I liked having the card so I could use it to save music or pictures and save the Hard Drive for apps. With the card sticking out I worry about bumping it and breaking it. I wish they would have designed it so it would go all the way in and sit flush against the body of the device. If not for this I love the device and see myself enjoying it for a very long time!!
