    The do everthing laptop

I am a college student, a gamer, and a vr enthusiast. For a student: As a student I use this laptop for running 3d anatomy programs as a pre med student. The i7 8th gen cpu is blazing fast and renders my 3d programs very quickly. The surface book 2 has a detachable screen and so it is great for taking notes and jotting down ideas. In class I use it a my one and only notebook using one note to create and organize all of my notes. Microsoft claims a 17 hour battery life. However because these tests are done of a single video loop your mileage my vary. I usually get 10+ hours with screen at 50% with a combination of office suite work, and with 3d anatomy open. Gaming: When I want to relax and blow off some steam I run over watch and other newer titles on this. However, running video games at the book 2's native resolution is not ideal. The gtx 1050 in here is not great for near 4k gaming. Virtual Reality: I have recently gotten into vr in Microsoft's "Mixed Reality" platform. Playing many games from the Microsoft store and Steam vr store. Games such as: Super Hot, Space Pirates, DOOM VFR, and other vr titles run great on this. Unfortunately I do not think that the surface team originally had the book 2 in mind for MR. You have to use a usb c to hdmi adapter to connect the headset, and make an awkward stretch of the usb cable that is also needed to run the headset on the other side of the laptop. While in the vr experience I notice at times strange pulsating effects on the screen (not seen on my gtx 1070 gaming rig). It is mostly during loading screens though. As this version of the book 2 has only 256 of storage I use my external ssd to run this, and so I would recommend some kind of external storage if you plan on doing something similar. SALE: When I added my laptop to my cart I noticed that a MR vr headset was included in the purchase! I ran over to my nearest best buy store to get some explanation on this. It turns out that you save 400$ with the purchase of a "Mixed Reality Ultra Certified laptop". If you want to take advantage of this the sale will end this Saturday 12/23

    Purchased Open Box "Excellent"....wasn't excellent

I purchased an Open Box Excellent, but it was far from that. It just came in the mail an hour ago and this is what I found out. 1. As soon as I opened the laptop, I see a dent at the top of the laptop near the camera which shows it was dropped while open or at an angle. Very noticeable. 2. I see a dent on the bottom of the laptop beneath the keyboard as well as other scratches and marks. 3. I assumed it would have had a little juice from being worked on since it was an open box but it didn't which was fine. I plug in the laptop and waited a min and then turned it on. While inspecting the laptop, I noticed it said battery 2 was charging but not battery 1(whatever that means). It kept making a da da ding noise as if it was trying to die but no notifications popped up. I also noticed after 10min, the battery didn't budge above 0%. At some point, the laptop went to sleep and it asked me for a password to log back in. I reset the computer and it allowed me back in. Apparently, an adm profile is still attached(probably repair people). I also noticed it asked me it reset the computer when it came back on. As for the battery, it now said battery 1 charging and not battery 2 and then 5min latter both began to charge. I normally by new, especially electronics, but I took a chance with hopes that it would have been in the condition Bestbuy advertised it. Needless to say, I'm bringing it back tonight or tomorrow.

The keyboard On this laptop is not durable enough for normal use. I bought this for my son for college. I bought a higher end model intending for it to last 4 years and not be obsolete. 9 months into ownership the keys are breaking. My expectation is that should never be an issue. I have a MacBook From 2009 that is still running strong. I am really glad I got the extended support.

I love the versatility and ease of use of my new Surface Book 2. It feels lighter than the original. So far I've also noticed the battery stays comfortably cool while running and lasts for hours. It still has the same great keyboard and beautiful graphics on screen. The touch screen is a really nice feature and a one up over a Mac. I really like that I can load my choice of software for photo processing or letter writing or whatever and get the results I expect.

I love how it can be a tablet or a laptop. It is large, fast, and easy to use. It connects to my projector for presentations for work, easily set it up to stream to my smart tv’s or multiple monitors. The only think I wish was I got the 16gb of ram version as I use a ram heavy software for work but so far not any issues with it just thinking for the future.

I bought the Microsoft Surface Book 2 (i7 | 8GB RAM) for illustration work with the surface pen and Adobe Photoshop. The performance with photoshop is far from good. Even with the settings set to maximum, photoshop gets really laggy and it runs out of RAM when applying a filter, sometimes you can't even save the project! A pop-up message says there is no RAM to save the project or export the image. I use it for professional work for clients and it's painful to work with it. It's a very expensive laptop but I think it's overpriced and it doesn't meet my needs. Another reason that is inconvenient is that you have to close photoshop if you want to detach the screen to change for a more comfortable drawing position. And you can't use the keyboard if the screen isn't in its standard position. That makes necessary getting an app like Tablet Pro (which is great) or a bluetooth keyboard. Other than that, it is a very well built and beautifully designed laptop. Perfect for writing and light use. But I don't recommended for photoshop.

Amazing machine that is getting better

As an avid mac user, Microsoft is killing it with vision and innovation. The surface book 2 is an amazing device. The battery life is great a and I love the build quality. Its keyboard is comfortable and is far better than the one that Apple is currently pushing. This keyboard has travel, which absorbs the energy during typing. Apple's engineers did not think about the biomechanics of their new keyboard design, which is like a running shoe with no midsole. As for the track pad, Microsoft nailed it. It is equal to the ones from Apple. It is super responsive and amazing to use. The screen is a delight to use and I love that it is a touch screen. Apple executives stated that having to take your hands off of the keyboard is not the way people want to work. This is counter to Tim Cook stating that the iPad Pro is the only computer people would need. ;) Having a multifunctional machine like the SB2 is great. I use it for STEM, business and mixed reality development. Say what you want, but the touch screen is quite useful. As a tablet, the ability to use the SB2 as a tablet is great, especially when teaching or speaking at conferences. When you tie it to the Surface wireless display adapter, it is amazing. The only thing I really miss on my mac is Handoff and messaging. Sure, I can find workarounds, but when you are doing business, you do not have much time to play. Apple would be smart to open its messaging technology to other platforms. Unfortunately, I do not see that happening and they are heading down the road of Blackberry. An isolated island cannot last forever. I could go on, but I am not. This is a great machine. I would highly recommend getting the Microsoft warranty in case something happens. Just like AppleCare, this is added protection.

I wanted to buy great laptop with high quality of graphic card(at least GTX 1050), and I considered the weight. When I consider these two options(graphic card and portability), this Surface book 2 is great for me. Even though the price is expensive for me, I am satisfied with it. However, I sometimes find that something is weird such as stopped web page. I opened full-sized YouTube page for a long time, and I didn't use my laptop for few minutes. After then, I unlocked my laptop, and I hit 'Esc button' to make the YouTube page smaller, not full size. Suddenly, the page was turned to gray page. So, I had to hit "Ctrl+Alt+Del" to open system manager. Then I quite the Internet Edge page by force. This happened twice within one or two months. Plus, sometimes, I cannot type spacebar and special characters like ?!@/..., when I type in the webpage or online messenser. I am sure whether this is because of typing Korean letters or not. (I use two languages in my laptop). But, whenever, I am stuck in this problem, I have to touch the typing box with my fingertip. Actually I did not need touch screen with my laptop and detatched screen that much. I just wanted to buy great graphic card and portability. I considered this surface book2 and apple macbook pro. When I bought this, I had an old macbook air. Since I already have apple OS laptop, I chose this 'window' laptop. But after few weeks, my mac book air was broken. If I knew that my macbook is broken, I might buy macbook pro instead of Surface book2. Anyway, I am also satisfied with this, but I regret buying this a little bit because of my broken macbook. Whenever I find a tiny malfunction with this laptop, I regret a little. And I was so so sad that Surface book2 discount sale $70 more than the price I bought :(

The time came and I made the purchase I needed to do 6 months ago. This Surface book is amazing the speed and versatility is by far the best I have ever had. The tablet function is by far the best feature. The ability to use the tablet as a camera has made things so much easier for me on my projects. Graphics are amazing and it has windows 10 not a mobile version so all the programs you had on your desktop or laptop will work on this! Usually I look for flaws and a reason to return because I came across something that I didn't like. In this case I have zero buyers remorse even though I purchased the top of the line and financed on my best buy card. No regrets here!!

I've been using the Surface Book for a number of years. The Surface Book 2 is a great computer and a wonderful convertible. Its fairly light weight, has a great touch screen and fabulous keyboard. The device works extremely well with OneNote 2016 and later, and provides, in my opinion the best convertible experience you can find on the market. The device's NVIDIA graphics processor gives it as much punch as you'll think you'll need in a Windows notebook, giving it the ability to handle just about anything you try to do with it. The device's downsides are notable, however, and should be considered when looking for a convertible. 1. Price - Its very expensive; and shouldn't be. 2. Its not upgradable, in any way. Buy what you can afford, as its all its ever going to be when you take it out of the box. 3. An 8GB machine is great for productivity; but despite the discrete graphics processor, its not going to be a decent gaming machine. Don't fool yourself or try to talk yourself into thinking it will be. It won't... 4. I have no idea who thought that small SSD's would be ok on any kind of machine. 256GB is fine for a productivity machine; but even then, depending on what you're trying to do, you will likely find you want additional storage. You WILL need an SSD card, and then you WILL need something called a HyperDrive to permanently store a microSSD card in the machine without the card sticking out of the side of the keyboard. 5. The detach mechanism is a bit wonky, and I have never liked the way the device turns the screen around. Taking it physically OFF the base to reattach it is connects nearly everything, including the SSD storage where you will likely have your local OneDrive cache sitting, leaving apps and Windows itself to try to figure everything out when the device is reattached. If you can get your workflow down and minimize the number of times you need or want to flip the screen around, you're going to find that the Surface Book beats the Surface Pro in portability, largely due to the keyboard. Its much sturdier and more solid, and provides a better overall typing and trackpad experience than the Surface Pro. You will pay a premium for this, but if you're more into productivity and getting work done, the Surface Book will be a better buy for you in the long run.

This product is exactly what I wanted to purchase. I did lots of research before purchasing a SurfaceBook because I wanted to make sure that my money was being well spent. I went on Amazon and saw one that I wanted to purchase but I believe in supporting local businesses, so I went to Best buy where The Manager and sales associate Scott and Trevor helped me out a lot on my purchase. They priced matched Amazon and even went a step further. I got exactly what I wanted and because of this, I will continue to shop at Best Buy. I wanted to wait a month or so to write my review because I wanted to make sure I fully experienced it. I do. Its an expensive laptop but it is exactly what I wanted. I have no regrets. I love the long battery life, I really like being able to turn it into a tablet. Again I knew what I was getting so I wasn't surprised by anything nor was I disappointed with anything. It works exactly as a top end product should. No corners cut and only premium components and aesthetics.

I owned a Mac Book pro 15" which lasted for 8 years before I started noticing issues. I was hesitant to switch from Apple but their "new" products didn't have anything impressive to offer. As a grad student, I wanted a Microsoft laptop because I didn't like how Office runs on the Mac. This laptop has been performing wonderfully, its fast, was very easy to set up, and is versatile. It was pricey but I am not disappointed with the purchase so far.

This powerful lightweight Surface Book 2 makes it hard to use any other slower device. I have given this 6 months of regular use and am impressed. I am not easy to impress and was going to custom order a build to get enough power. This provides the power, no glitches, no hiccups, very responsive touch screen, and decent options. As for tablet function, I use my ipad for that. I do not use this book detached from keyboard. I am glad I can though. it works like a featherweight desktop, not a mobile device or tablet.

Great laptop for my graduate program. It must be the best because it is the same laptop used by all of my Graduate School professors. In class I use the tablet for note taking an it converts my writing to text. Have discovered that it makes note taking much easier and faster. One great thing is that when I write formulas they are pretty accurately converted to text - big time saver for me. It is very capable of running the CAD and design programs I have to use. It is kind of expensive, but it really gets the job done.

the flexibility to use this as a laptop or a tablet is a fantastic combination. I especially like the ability to flip the screen around with an external keyboard and mouse connected and using the surface book in studio mode. it gets the built-in keyboard out of the way and brings the screen right up to the external keyboard. Price is a bit salty for the computer specs, but when you buy the surface book you're likely buying it for the versatility as much as the processing power.

I needed a laptop ASAP because my old one died on me. I was between the Lenovo Yoga Book 920 and the Microsoft Surface book 2. The yoga book was nice but the size of the bezel at the bottom of the screen was too big and I did not like how the keys were our when it went into tablet mode. I couldn't be happier with my decision to go with the Surface book. It was more expensive but totally worth it!
