This is the perfect laptop for any digital artist, as an animator/motion designer I really needed something that wasn’t just powerful enough to handle the heavy programs I use, but something that would allow me to fully create whether it be drawing/sketching on the screen or doing some 3D modeling on Maya. It works. I’ve had no issues, and I would recommend for someone in a similar field. One thing I do notice is that the battery life isn’t exactly what everyone raves about. But I’m going to assume it’s because of the type of programs I use.

    Garage full of great sound

Wanted real stereo separation and responsive bass for my garage. I didn't want the typical portable Bluetooth all in one speaker box. I also looked at modern day Boom Box's, and they were just wrong and I didn't want disco lights either. So I looked until I found this small LG Speaker bar and Subwoofer, The size was perfect for a new dedicated shelve. I didn't really get to check it out in store because they had it locked from Bluetooth connectivity. I went ahead and purchased it and took it home. RESULTS- Stupid easy to connect Bluetooth. NOTE- each speaker is Bluetooth and requires a dedicated power cord outlet. The Primary (left) speaker has an display to show functions like volume, sound modes, sub, treble, bass etc.., controlled by a wireless remote that allows me to skip a song while using Pandora from my phone (or use the phone for same) By this system having SEPERATE L/R speakers I am able to put some space between them. I found that by laying them down, it gave me the stereo separation I was wanting. All that said, I am really impressed with the overall sound. The L/R speakers have good crisp/clean mids and highs, and do not sound compressed. The SUB fills the garage with the bass I was wanting. It wont make your ears bleed or feel the bass pounding in your chest. It just sounds good! But it is plenty loud enough to hear in the driveway. This replaced my old Marantz full sized receiver and Paradigm bookshelf speakers. Well worth the 299.00 sale price. I will be purchasing another for the living room and utilize the added features this system has for A/V use and connectivity not detailed in this review.

I have now tried two different Surface Book 2 15” models. The first had a fuzz laminated into the display, and the second unit had a dead pixel, which after various home remedy fixes, would not revive. Extremely frustrating for a device meant for graphics usage. There should be absolutely no defects for the price this costs!

    Innovative Design and Solid Performance

The 15 inch surface book 2 is an excellent device that marries form with function. Its innovative 2-in-1 design makes it truly stand out from the rest of the field. What I like: -The PixelSense display is absolutely stunning -Windows 10 really is the best Windows yet -Powerhouse performance thanks to a strong CPU, ample memory, and a discrete NVIDIA graphics. The Surface Book 2 will not disappoint in terms of handling pretty much anything you throw at it -Touch and pen input are a true joy to use -One of the nicest keyboards I have every typed on - great travel and responsiveness (although the backlighting could be better - see below) -Multiple configurations allow you to build a surface book that best meets your needs. -Surface Dock expands ports - I highly recommend purchasing the surface dock with this device. I wish there were more ports included on the device itself (see below) but the reasonably priced dock accessory somewhat makes up for it. What Could Be Better: -It's a shame that recently Microsoft has released two updates that caused issues and what is presumable its flagship device. The first update (May Update) caused the discrete graphics card to randomly disappear. The discrete graphics card was a major selling point for me, so this would be present an issue. Microsoft has since pulled the update while they work on a fix but it feels like releasing an update that you haven't fully vetted on a device that you manufacture is pretty sloppy and, honestly, a bit embarrassing. The second update appears to be more limited but some users have reported sever CPU throttling issues. Again, this shouldn't happen on a piece of hardware that carries the Microsoft name - if Microsoft has access to any devices to test its updates, one would think the Surface Book 2 would certainly be one of them! -I wish the track pad was slightly larger. It is an adequate size but, on the 15 inch model, there is plenty of real estate to make it even larger. -The device does tend to get pretty warm with moderate use - granted, there's a lot of power in this thing so it is not entirely unexpected. -Expensive. There's no question about it, you are paying a premium for a premium device. I was able to snag this on sale, which is the only way I would purchase it. -Limited ports - no explanation needed; there's just too few of them for a device at this price point -Pen sold separately: Again, at this price point, it would be nice not to have to shell out an additional $100 for the pen -Keyboard Backlighting: Lots of light bleed from the keyboard backlighting. This is a trivial issue but it does make the device feel cheaper/lower quality than it actually is Overall, I am very happy with the Surface Book 2. The issues I have highlighted are more than made up for by the positive aspects of this device. Microsoft has an excellent product here but, a few minor issues keep it short of perfection.

Untrained and Unexperienced Microsoft Technicians. The Surface devices have hardware issues do not waste your money, Here is what happen to my three months old surface straight black circle dots appear everywhere on display (LCD). Microsoft could not identify the issue and offered a certified device, my thoughts were if you can't identify the problem on this device and why would I choose a certified one, So I asked the Microsoft technician what hardware components did Microsoft replaced on the certified Surfaces. The technician replied SSD, Looks brand new, no scratches and fresh IOS. Now I do not think those replacement items or components would fix the display (LCD).

I have had a surface in some for or another for years and always disliked the kickstand. Well this does everything that I want and more. Beautiful product, I get compliments on it constantly. Very user friendly, wonderful screen, fast, just a great machine. The only negative is that, with the cost of this product, a surface pen should have been included.

This laptop is amazing. I tested it out for a few weeks and I loved it. The functionality of it and being able to detach the screen from the body, is great! This is so thin, light and powerful! While it's connected to the body, you have access to its Nvidia GTX 1060 video card, which you can game with ease. Or if you need to do a lot of video editing or just graphic intense stuff, this guy is great. The only downside of this laptop is the price. For all the functionality, speed, power you get, it's almost worth it. But in the end, I just couldn't justify the price with what I had. Maybe if the Surface Book 3 has enough upgrades, more speed, more power, then maybe I'd go in... but with other brands coming out with newer chipsets, better screens, faster drives... there are other options for better prices.

      Hi Aaron,

I really love this 2 in 1 laptop. It is AMAZINGLY fast, portable and how the storage and some of the battery moves with the detachable screen. It has worked flawlessly and I have to say it's worth every cent I paid for it. Because it's a "Microsoft" branded computer, it isn't loaded down with all the 3rd party crap that other vendors (like Dell and HP) load on new systems and you spend the first day getting rid of it all. While it's "almost" perfect there are just 2 minor things I would change in the next version that comes out: 1. Allow the screen to be bent ALL the way back around for quick tablet mode. Currently, you have to detach the tablet then flip it, reattach it if you want it behind the keyboard. I'm not sure why MS decided on this limitation. 2. Add enough case to house the pen inside the system. Sure the magnets are strong but for travel, I would prefer having the pen slide inside the unit. It would be really cool if the magnits could be used to ensure the pen is inserted correctly and would pull the pen inside.

I had a Lenovo Legion recently, and that was excellent for gaming. Its battery life was awful, though, and I need a machine for work too. The SB2 has a GTX 1060. It plays most of my games - and when I'm away from my big desktop, I'm looking for single player RPGs that I can put down and pick up again. It's great for that. The screen is sharp, beautiful, and works well splitting apps side by side. The battery life is excellent. No issues with the connector and tablet mode so far. I recommend this so long as it's on sale. The SB3 is just around the corner, but it'll be about $3000. I got this for $700 off. For what my actual needs are, it's excellent. I can probably skip the next generation - this is pretty powerful. I love the clicky feel of the keyboard. Also - I got a surface pen, and really enjoy the Windows Ink features.

Love the computer! I really enjoy the touchscreen aspect both in regular laptop mode and illustrating in tablet mode. It feels sturdy without being heavy and looks sleek and modern. I feel like compared to the price of a competitor for something similar, I got the added bonus of the touchscreen/tablet function. Screen is great, good light and colors (actually this is what set this computer apart from other PCs for me). Love the keyboard feel. Internal storage fills up fast though when photo editing, so I will need an external very soon. Sometimes gets laggy but it usually resolves itself, if not checking windows updates and/or a very fast reset does the trick. All in all I'm very happy with the purchase and look forward to using it for hopefully a long time.

Great product. There are so many good things about this notebook they cant be explained in this short review. Great screen, keyboard, versatility, and plenty of options for add ons. This is a powerhouse and can handle graphics, games, spreadsheets, or really anything that uses complicated algorithms. Ignore bad reviews. This is a 2500$ piece of nice equipment. If you don't treat it as such and follow the recommended guidelines of sophisticated electronics device, well, lets just say you probably wont have the best luck with this product or probably any others. Buy with confidence.

Surface book 2 is really great. It is a little more on the heavier side, but still very portable & versatile. The speed is great, love the touch screen and surface pen, great way to keep work flow active. The only thing i noticed that is a draw back is connecting to external displays. It surly supports two displays, however i do notice a delay when moving windows back and forth. Resolution seems to be quite off & refresh rates are low. This issue for me can certainly stem from using older generation monitors (2008-2010) so it may not be the case with new gen monitors I will certainly give that a shot, but overall a great laptop!

I have been wanting one for some time. My home built gaming desktop died on me and BestBuy had a special on these. I was able to get an open box on top. the next weekend Microsoft put another discount and I was able to go back and get the difference - so yay me. the only thing that I am concerned about is that this is a sealed unit. I do not care that I can take the screen off and use it as a tablet, shame that Microsoft does not make the Laptop with more power and discrete video card as that would have been fine.

I use Apple products for practically everything at home, but it made more sense for me to purchase a windows-based machine for work. After a lot of debating, I went with this Surface Book 2. As a laptop, this machine is nearly perfect. It has plenty of power and the construction feels fantastic. The keyboard is a tad limited due to how sleek it is, but it's probably just as good or better than most macbook or macbook pro keyboards. The battery life is strong and the software works just fine. I do love the surface pen. I think it works pretty well, but as a touch screen and tablet, I'm not a big fan. I almost never detach the device and almost never use the touchscreen other than when I'm writing/illustrating with the pen. The machine as a whole is an amazing laptop, but I don't think the tablet itself is as good as an iPad Pro. Still, I would definitely buy this again.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE my Surface Book 2. It has been nothing but a dream for my University classes and work. The pen does come separate but I had one already from a previous Surface device and it seamlessly connected to my new Surface Book 2. I can easily create PDF files and put them notebooks in MS Note for my courses and use my pen to make notes and highlight information. The screen is absolutely gorgeous and the touch tech is spot on and easy to use. The weight of the entire device is actually pretty manageable, though when the screen detaches the "tablet" screen is incredibly lightweight. Even the keyboard is amazing and types comfortably. I really have zero complaints about this device. It is a bit costly, but honestly I would buy it again in a heartbeat. If you can afford the price, I highly recommend purchasing this device. The pen is a fantastic companion to it too, so if your going to purchase the Surface Book its worth it to buckle down and buy the pen too.

I really like all of my Apple devices that I have and am still happy with most of them. After researching the Microsoft Surface at Best Buy and online, I decided to take the plunge and try the Surface Book 2 out. For me the main upside is the touch screen on a laptop computer. Apple’s touch bar is far less user friendly than a touch screen for sure, I love my iPad Pro and wish Apple made a Touch Screen laptop. I was concerned about being able to navigate the Windows program since I am all in with IOS, but have been surprised that it is not as hard as it used to be. I did not grow up with computers nor have I used them extensively for a job, so the difficulties of adaptation to operating systems is very real for me. The Surface Book 2 is very fast and smooth in its operation, So far I like it a lot. The 15” screen is wonderful! I like the drawing features that are available for my husband to use as well. I look forward to seeing the cartoons he creates on it.

Similar to the Surface Book Plus, due to the separate graphics card (not considering the Surface Book 2'乞丐 version), and the larger battery in the base, the base of the Surface Book 2 is slightly protruding. This highlight is equivalent to reducing the gap between the Surface Book 2 screen and the keyboard, so it does not cause the body to thicken, and the slightly increased curvature helps to improve the feel of the keyboard. In terms of weight and thickness, Surface Book 2 is also basically the same as Surface Book Plus. The weight of the whole machine is about 1.65 kg. Due to the unique shaft design, its maximum thickness is 2.3 cm. In 2018, the Surface Book 2 could not be classified as a 'thin and thin' laptop, and the heavy body might be the most obvious slot in the Surface Book 2. I hope that in the future Surface Book 3, Microsoft can consider the issue of lightweight.
