Awesome 2in1
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This 2in1 is powerful, clear, easy to use and light weight. The features alone makes it a great tool to use. I can use it as a tablet when I am on the go or use the keyboard when I am in the office. The face recognition feature is truly helpful and easy to unlock.

Fantastic device that can do it all
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'll try to make this review sweet and quick. If you want a laptop that can do a little bit of everything, this is the device for you. The SB2 (specifically the 15 inch version with the GTX 1060), is a laptop that is a jack of all trades type of computer, but a master of none (if that makes sense). The display is fantastic (however not the greatest compared to the OLED displays that many laptops are being shipped with now). The CPU is great for everyday use and even for some heavy processing work such as video/photo editing, music production, and gaming (however not the most powerful). The design is beautiful, and the tablet functionality is awesome to have as well (although if you opt for this 15 inch version, the tablet isn't as practical in its use unless you're doing a drawing session or watching a media while laying in bed or something along those lines). And the battery life is STELLAR (given the display). I'd say you can expect (assuming you're just doing average productivity work), at least 8-9 solid hours, and probably closer to 10 if you put the battery into battery saving mode. Essentially, as long as you're not doing anything too intensive, you can expect to make it through a full day without needing to worry about finding the nearest power socket. The device itself is beautiful as well. Don't be surprised if you go into a local coffee shop and have people looking at your SB2 or even asking what your laptop is. Last thing I'll touch on is the gaming. Now, given that the 15 inch version comes with the GTX 1060 (which those unfamiliar is a mid-tier graphics card), you can expect to play any new AAA titles with no issues. For many demanding titles, you may not be able to play them at Ultra settings, but High and Medium settings will allow you to yield close to or even above 60 fps consistently. I would just recommend if you do plan on using this game, especially if you're planning to game for longer sessions (such as over 2 hours in one sitting) to undervolt the CPU. You can do this using ThrottleStop, but just make sure you do research before doing this as you could potentially damage the laptop. I personally have undervolted the CPU by around 100 mV, and so far it's been working great. This also lends itself to another advantage that this device has over your average gaming laptop. Because of the unique hinge design, the CPU and GPU are at separate parts of the computer, which allows the computer to not get as hot when gaming or doing intensive tasks that requires the GPU. To sum this review up, if you want one device that can do it all, then the SB2 is the laptop just for you. It has an amazing design, unique tablet functionality, probably the most powerful GPU that you'll currently find in an ultrabook, and awesome battery life. The only con that I've come across is the price itself. I would recommend that if you are interested in purchasing this laptop to wait until a sale comes up. You'll at the very least be able to save around $300 for the laptop, so just wait a bit until you see a sale pop up.

The best surface yet!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had my Surface Book 2 for about 3 weeks now. I waited when the first Surface Book came out, because while I liked the design & features, I always prefer to avoid 1st generation designs...... And let me tell you, it was worth the wait! Not only did Microsoft do an excellent job addressing most of the flaws in the 1st generation design, but they also built a machine that can be used for many hours, doing the most demanding tasks, on battery alone. In fact when attached to the base, my new Surface Book 2 is more powerful than any of the MacBook Pro's that several of my friends own, or even the gaming desktops that they have. Yes, it's expensive, but it's worth it.

A student's best friend!!!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is by far the best laptop i have ever had. i previously had a mac which was nice but the surface book 2 is the absolute best laptop for a student. I recommend u buy the pen because you practically need it. I use this laptop mainly for school, most of my lectures are on powerpoint and i just fold the screen so that i can take my notes by writing directly on the screen! It makes my life so much easier and i haven't used a single piece of paper since i bought this. The i7 processor is extremely fast and this laptop is yet to slow down on me. I have nothing negative to say regarding this laptop. My favorite feature is that you can remove the screen and not even need to have the keyboard. Also it packs two separate batteries so its battery life is phenomenal. The screen has a battery and the keyboard has another battery so it actually charges to 200 percent! I love this thing!

Favorite laptop in 10 years
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've tried a lot of modern laptops, for extended periods of time - Dell XPS 13, Surface Pro 5th gen, Dell Latitude 7470, 15" MacBook Pro Retina 2017, and from all of these; this machine is my favorite and the only portable I rely on. Great battery life, excellent performance, not too heavy. I thought the gap with the hinge would bother me, but it really doesn't. This machine is pricey, but if you can afford it, it's a great solid piece of equipment.

This machine is amazing!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love everything about this computer/tablet so far. It has the power to run the programs I need it to (Adobe Creative Cloud), and I don't worry about it overheating or being super noisy like other laptops I've previously owned. I love the addition of the pen, which isn't included, unfortunately, but well worth purchasing it. Especially if you can get it on sale like I did. It moves over the screen smoothly.

Love it overall
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Love that Microsoft makes the hardware and the software to reduce actual and potential glitches. Would love to give it a 5 except for 2 things: first is the high price like Apple has inflated prices just because they can do it. Second is the mouse arrow sometimes just disappears and the control button does not either know where it is as it will not disclose the position... and the screen just freezes up entirely until I wait a minute or two OR I pull out the mouse wireless dongle and reinsert it... what's happening? though it was that it preferred the blue tooth pointer that I got at the same time, but no response to it either. Other than that, the SSD is fast and very quiet; there is not heat in the lap as the tablet/display has all the guts so it can be disconnected from the keyboard.

Great laptop for any user!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The laptop has a bit of power, speed, it's lightweight.....It's great! You do have to be careful about where you lie it. Because it's so light, I can see it easily being damaged if you bump the casing against a hard panel. So getting the Geek Squad protection plan is a must!! The only reason I returned mine is because, after three days of having it, I really, really want the 1TB version instead. It's currently sold out, so I'm waiting until it comes back in stock before I make my move! If you're okay with a 512GB over having a 1TB, this is a great computer to have. I can see myself not needing to buy a new one for quite some years to come (once I have my 1TB).

Overall, the best purchase I've ever made.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Surface Book 2 is amazing at this level. I purchased the {Microsoft - Surface Book 2 - 15" Touch-Screen PixelSense™ - 2-in-1 Laptop - Intel Core i7 - 16GB Memory - 512GB SSD - Silver} and, for the money, it is the best around! Touch screen provides surprisingly stunning and fast visuals, and has great touch/pen response for simple/multi-touch gaming (like "Angry Birds", "Cooking Fever" and "Magic: the Gathering") and drawing applications (like "Krita", "Photoshop" and "Sketchbook Pro"). The SSD makes retrieving my saved files faster than any harddrive I've ever used, and the 2 USB-C ports on the side provide quick and easy access to either more storage or charging/connectivity ports for other mediums such as phones or standalone tablets. Speaking of tablets, the Surface Book 2's ability to detach from the base and be used in Tablet mode is wonderful, and a 15-inch tablet with PixelSense visuals makes this comparable to ANY iPad Pro on the market. You are able to take the portable charger even if you don't take the base, and still be able to utilize your media. I personally have connected my Surface Book 2 to my Microsoft XBox One controller via Bluetooth to be able to game, and as this particular Surface Book 2 comes with 16GB RAM, it is capable of playing some of the newer games with great fidelity (I personally have tried "DC Universe Online", "KurtzPel" (FreeToPlay) and "Destiny 2 "FreeToPlay", and the only snags I've really run into is my own internet connection slowing me down (the Surface Book 2 kept up exceptionally well). I also plan to use it for video production for tutorials, but as yet have not tried out any video software on it. As the previous owner of a Surface 2017 model build, I had utilized the video card in that unit which was built with an HDD instead of SSD, and the only real difference between these 2 machines is the storage and screen resolution, so I'm confident it will be able to run the video program I had previously been using. One major downfall is that they should have used a larger power supply. I sometimes see my power draining even while connected when utilizing the graphics card at high framerates and graphic fidelity (with screen at max brightness), but other than that, not very many issues. I've owned this unit for 1 month, but when purchasing ANY electronic, I personally recommend getting the 2yr Best Buy Geek Squad Service Coverage . My previous Surface unit had Charger issues (would not charge the unit, with multiple batteries sent to my house and the store), so don't forget to add that to your purchase!

Blazing fast. Beautiful design. Expensive.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Longevity will be a concern as the first one had to be returned due to a faulty battery/wanky software issue that wouldn't allow the screen to detach and re-attach. The machine would just freeze. Multiple wipes and re-installations of the operating system didn't do any good. Bought another one and haven't had any issues yet. Wonderful screen. Great features. Blazingly fast boot-ups. Good feel and build quality (minus the original issue). Only had it a month yet have noticed other brands with similar spec'd models that are 1/2 the price. So, we'll see if this nearly $3000 hybrid will be worth it.

Surface Book 2 - powerful, durable and reliable
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I try not to review a product until I have taken it through the ringer so to speak. The Surface Book 2 has proved itself to me over the last 2.5 years. It is a powerful, durable and reliable machine. Many times I utilize multiple apps, programs and windows , and the Surface book 2 handles it all easily. It comes with two graphic options, and switches over to the more powerful GTX option when needed and docked. I have tried it with Epic games and fortnite and it works well. I use it with the Surface Dock when at home with multiple screens. I hope I haven't jinxed myself by writing this review as I hope to use this Surface Book for much longer.

Excellent, versatile laptop
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Microsoft Surface Book 2 is a high quality, powerful, and versatile laptop. It's a laptop and tablet in one. The display is an HD touch screen and functions just like a normal tablet when you detach it from the keyboard. It also folds backwards allowing it to function in touch mode like a tablet while still attached to the keyboard, thus giving it longer battery life because it's still attached to the main battery. No other laptop does this which was the deciding factor in my purchase. I highly recommend this laptop to anyone looking for the ultimate in power, speed, storage capacity, and flexibility.

Fantastic digital art/production w/solid gaming
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’ve had this computer for about 6 months, and I can easily say that the 15” Surface Book 2 is the best computer I have ever owned. Every computer has tradeoffs, but those made here are minor, and it is well worth the price for the combination of performance and features. There are more powerful machines out there, but this close to the top for laptops - and those small differences become meaningless when you consider the unrivaled pen/touch support. This is an aritists dream with excellent drawing abilities and pressure/tilt sensitivity, and a great mobile graphics card. I’d highly recommend dowbloading “Tablet Pro” for extra features if you are going to do digital art here. Gaming performance is also great due to the aforementioned graphics card, despite this computer not being marketed as a gaming machine - and it DOES support VR, with some minor caveats: in short, if you want VR, get a Mixed Reality headset (Samsung Odyssey recommended, though any work), and you can use both Steam VR and Oculus software with it (with the Mixed Reality Steam VR add-on, and Remixed from Revive for Oculus software support). Rift won’t set up without trickery, and Vive works but doesn’t perform well under most circumstances - but Mixed Reality works near flawlessly for VR with this computer. As an aside, another benefit for gaming: wireless Xbox controllers work out of the box - no adapters or trickery needed, just add them as you would any wireless device - so, if you have an Xbox One, you already have game controllers for this computer. In short: if you have the money, this is a highly recommend computer for anything you want to do.

Excellent Workhorse
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This laptop delivers. I use a lot of heavy programs for photo & video editing, as well as ERP system, and this laptop has kept up with the load great! My only downside is the keyboard doesn't have the number pad, i think for a 15 inch there was enough space to have added the number pad. Flexibility is great, lightweight but feels well built. I definitely recommend it.

A beautiful workhorse with no compromises
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is the hybrid laptop I have been dreaming about since 2010. A combo of beauty, versatility, and a complete workhorse in one package without any compromise. I had both the original Surface Book and the Surface Book with Performance Base and they were all very solid and very useful for my work but I still had to rely on my Desktop computer for most of the work I do but after getting the Surface Book 2 15'' my Desktop PC is a now a white elephant in the house.

The best Windows device of 2017
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Pros +Powerful 8th gen quad core "U" processor +Excellent gaming with 1060 graphics +Excellent keyboard +Excellent touchpad +USB-C port +Premium build quality +Battery life +Excellent display Cons -Expensive -No Thunderbolt 3 port -Does not include Surface Pen Summary Hands down, this is the best Windows laptop/2-in-1 of 2017. The worst thing I can say about it is the price, having to buy a pen separately, and no Thunderbolt 3 port. Everything else about this machine is sublime. Prior to this, a 2017 MacBook Pro 15 was my daily driver. The Surface Book 2 15 has equivalent build quality, a better keyboard, similar touchpad quality, and far better dedicated graphics with the Nvidia 1060 6GB versus the Radeon 560 4GB. As someone who uses both Windows 10 and MacOS regularly, Microsoft has finally done it and created a true Windows alternative to the MacBook Pro 15. While there may be similar options like the Gigabyte Aero 14/15 or Dell XPS 15 that cost less money and are better values, spending the extra money on the Surface Book 2 is well worth it in my opinion. After a few years of primary MacBook use, I am back on the Windows train and could not be happier about it. This review is based on my experiences with the Surface Book 2 15 inch as my daily driver and as someone who travels roughly half the year for professional work (meetings, conferences, etc.). I tend to favor premium devices and this is my favorite device of 2017. Design This is a premium device. The build quality is absolutely on par with a MacBook and is head and shoulders above other Windows devices from other vendors. The 2-in-1 capability "just plain works" and provides a variety of options in how to use this device. Display The touch enabled 15 inch display is a 3:2 aspect ratio with a native resolution of 3240x2160, pleasing to the eyes, and a joy to use. It gets plenty bright and the touch response works as expected. Input devices The 3-stage back-lit keyboard is fantastic and has just the right amount of travel to be comfortable to type on for long periods. The touchpad uses Microsoft Precision drivers and is the best Windows touchpad I have used to date. It is on par with the fabled Mac touchpad, though I wish it was just a tad bit larger. Audio The speakers are fairly good for a laptop of this size. They fire from cutouts on the side of the display and have good separation. Bass isn't the best, but they are clear and comfortable. Not as good as the recent MacBook's, but still quite capable. Performance 8th gen Intel-U processors are a significant upgrade from the 7th generation in that they added 2 more cores making it a true quad core processor. The 25watt i7 processor in the Surface Book 2 15 inch is on par with a 45watt 7th gen Intel quad core processor from a performance perspective. The main difference is that there may be some throttling during extended loads, but the performance will still be equivalent for the vast majority of people. The Nvidia 1060 dedicated graphics allow most games to be played at medium/high detail at 1920x1080p. I generally play League of Legends and Overwatch and both perform well. As League is an older title, I am able to play that at high detail on my 35 inch Dell ultrawide monitor's native resolution at over 100fps. Glorious! Battery Life Battery life is excellent due to the large battery in the base as well as the usage of a lower watt 8th gen "U" processor that uses less power than the 7th gen HQ processors. Standard work use comprising of Chrome web browsing and Office 365 apps saw me get an amazing 13 hours of use. It does chug battery when the dedicated graphics are being used, but that is the same of every laptop. Coming from my 2017 MacBook Pro 15, the battery life has been significantly better than the 6 hours I typically get with the MacBook. There have been reports of the Surface Book 2 15 inch draining battery even when plugged in while gaming, but I have not experienced this. Tablet only mode lasts 3-5 hours based on what you are doing. Webcam It has a 5.0mp front facing camera and the image quality is excellent. By far the best I have seen on any laptop, including Mac's. There is an 8.0mp rear facing camera that also works very well (but please do not be that person holding up a tablet at a concert to take a picture). For taking pictures of whiteboards or slides at a conference, it does the job very well. Heat & Fans Heat is well managed as are the fans when really pushing the device. It makes a soft whooshing noise at maximum and is not at all obnoxious. OS/Bloatware The device does not ship with any bloatware, which is a great thing. It is a standard Windows 10 Pro install, but it strangely does not ship with fall creator's update already installed.

Professional Grade for work or art
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this machine two replace two - I was using an Alienware R17 for work/digital editing, and a Samsung Tab S3 with pen for artwork. While the Alienware was certainly up to any tasks I had for work, the Tab S3 was not keeping up with the demands of current digital art software. I do digital art as a hobby, and AutoDesk Sketchbook is my program of choice. I wanted a larger screen, more horsepower, and access to the full program on Windows (vs. the limited tool set on the tablet app). After a lot of research I bit the bullet and dropped the $3100 for a new Surface Book 2 (516GB SSD, 15"). I also purchased the Surface Pen and Surface Dial. The computer runs flawlessly and actually seems to be running faster after a month, perhaps it's gotten used to me! The machine is cool, quiet, and starts up in a flash. My Autodesk Sketchbook runs like butter, not jitter or delays - as close to drawing on paper as I've ever had in an electronic device, but with all the power, flexibility, and convenience of digital vs. paper. The Microsoft Pen is infinitely better than either the Samsung pen or the Apple Pencil. The size and weight, combined with a very nice rubber nib, provide a nice silky glide with enough resistance so it doesn't feel like drawing on glass ala iPad Pro. The Surface Book gives me access to all of the program's powerful features and although I am not a professional illustrator, I would think even a pro would be able to make good use of this computer as a mobile tool. Haven't had much need for the Dial, I think I would have held off on that, but perhaps I will grow into it. Overall, it's a great machine. Wonderful display, great keyboard, plenty of power and speed in a super light machine. I use the detachable screen every time I draw. I just pop the screen and flip it around and reattach in display mode - the screen and base are still very light and thin. No regrets on this purchase, I would recommend to anyone who needs a solid digital art platform but also needs horsepower for day to day computing needs like video editing, graphics editing, and MS Office programs. Do I wish it was cheaper - of course. But there just isn't anything on the market that compares to the Surface Book - giving you all the features of two or three devices in one compact, light, and efficient machine. I think that if you got a high end gaming machine + an artpad you'd end up at the same price point, but with two devices. Throw in a high end 15" tablet and you're now paying more than a Surface Book, so if you look at it as 3 devices in one (which it truly is) then it's a good value.
