I am a long time Windows user. I considered getting a new iPad pro or a Mac Pro, but I am really used to the Windows environment. I wanted a tablet experience, like touchscreen, lightweight portability and long battery life. Mac pro didn't have a touchscreen. iPad pro didn't have tons of storage. Ergo, this wonderful Surface Book. It runs everything, and fast. You have to experience the pen to believe it too. Amazing. My only issue with this beast is that it flickered a little when I first got it. After several downloads I think that's no longer an issue. I would highly recommend this computer to anyone who wants a powerful and versatile machine.

I purchased my Surface Book almost three months ago. It looks and feels like a high quality item. Every once in a while I have tinges of buyer's remorse knowing that I could have purchased a different laptop with similar specs for much less. However, being able to detach the screen and use it as a tablet has been pretty useful and really expands the usability. The mechanism to remove the tablet is great. It disconnects quickly and reattaches easily. I am pleased with the quality of the speakers. It sounds good and has plenty of volume. My biggest complaint about the design is the non-removable batteries. I tend to use laptops a long time--word-processing and email are by far my most common tasks so I can get by on really old equipment. I am sure that the batteries will lose their ability to hold a decent charge long before I would otherwise need to upgrade. Personally, I would prefer to gain a little thickness and weight in exchange for a removable battery but I guess I am in the minority. One problem I've had for the last few weeks is that battery 1 (the one in the keyboard) no longer charges even when plugged in. Since that is the larger of the two batteries, the overall battery capacity is diminished by about 60-70%. Luckily, this defect hasn't affected me too much yet because I'm almost always near an outlet. I spent about 40 minutes yesterday on a chat with MS support and they have sent me my shipping label to replace with a new unit. So I'll be without it for the next "5-8 business days" (fingers crossed that it will not take longer than that and that I won't receive a refurbished unit--the tech guy told me it won't be refurb but I won't fully trust that until I see the new one). Overall I am happy with the Surface Book. If not for the battery charging issue, I probably would have given the Surface Book 4 stars. If it had removable batteries, I would give it 5 stars.

First let me say I am extremely tech savvy and tolerant to early adopter challenges. But even I was frustrated with the amount of effort this thing took to get going out of the box. The system blue screened on the first boot requiring me to download and install a fresh system from Microsoft. Once I finally got it going, I love it. It is the perfect traveling laptop/tablet.

Great sleek computer. Has all the functionality of my old laptop. I have not found a need for the tablet function, but have tested it a couple times and seems to work well. The stylus seems excessive. The programs ran smoothly, except for Microsoft Edge for web surfing, it crashed almost every time. Had to download Firefox and Chrome and now not a single issue. Also, for a computer that was developed with Adobe, I am not sure why Adobe Acrobat is not pre-installed. The solid state drive is very fast and noticeably better than a traditional Hard Drive. It weighs very little, very slim, and easy to travel with. I have not found an issue with the gap when the computer is closed. One less star for the issues mentioned above and the high price, but overall very happy with purchase.

great product for replacing a desktop. had a surface pro 2 before this and glad I went this way. I use it more like a laptop than a tablet so love the fact that the keyboard is solid. over all it is great hardware.

This is, hands down, the best laptop I've ever owned. I bought this exclusively for business use, but it has replaced my home devices as my all purpose daily use computer. I am an IT professional that travels to a lot of client meetings, so weight and battery life were extremely important to me. I use this with the surface dock, which works great, but my only complaint and the reason I only give it four stars, is because the scaling on some applications is off when switching between the dock and the native display, which can be frustrating.

Bought this within the 1st 3wks of launching. We got the upgraded version of this that came with 256GB drive, bc the 126GB was sold out. It is LIGHTNING FAST! Everything is so fast and smooth with using everyday basic surfing. It turns on and off so quick, which is a giant plus. The only reason why I gave it 4stars instead of 5 was bc for a period of a couple weeks we experienced some problems with detaching and re-attaching the screen. But as a result of a HUGE software update we installed about a month ago, the problem has fixed itself and we haven't incurred it as of then, so Im assuming that was one of the fixes they did. This is an excellent laptop, and tablet all in one, as it states. Haven't really explored the tablet part of it. Only thing bad I can say in that mode, is on certain websites, you can't sometimes click on the proper thing you would like click on, or zoom, but I think thats to be expected with anything you have that uses finger movements for your mouse. That's more the websites fault and not this laptop.

I LOVE my Surface. I completely replaced my desktop with it. I use the Arc Mouse and Docking Station (gives me THREE screens total). I literally work on it almost all day every day. Mostly with Office 365, but I also do a fair amount of graphic and video work with it. I'm not a gamer though. The only suggestion I would make to a potential buyer is to get as much memory and drive space as you can afford. You can't really upgrade or add to a Surface like you can with a Desktop.

    The Worst Best Computer Ever

Okay, if you are considering purchasing this laptop, you have probably read something somewhere already. However, if you are reading reviews on BestBuy's site for the first time, and reading this particular review, I am going to try and give a very accurate description of how this device is effective for me. I am not going to review what it was designed to do...you can read that in the product description on various webites, but I will tell you that this thing was designed to do things that is unprecedented in laptop 2 in 1 design. The detachable screen that is as light as a feather, the ability to rotate the screen and flip it over and use it as a note pad/tablet is just plain awesome....when it works. The physical design overall is superb. But the software/OS lacks big time. From the NVIDIA and display driver to the little quirks with how the screen detaches, not mechanicall, but how the OS decides if the screen can be detached based the current app/software open in your processes. Not impressed, at all. A laptop at this price point should be just as impressive as its price tag. So let me go into detail about the things I don't like, because everything else is very impressive when it works! I connected my 29 inch monitor with a 2650 x 1080 resolution the Book through the display port, and the Book would not extend the display in the native resolution of the 29 inch monitor, which is something, again, I would expect a computer at this point to do. One of the other things I absolutely don't like is that you cannot detach the screen if certain GPU depentdent apps are running, even in the background. You must close those apps/software before the screen will detach. And what I find more often than not is that even after I have closed the apps/software, I still am not able to detach the screen, because those app are hidden/imbedded in some background process, yet inhibiting the screen from detaching. There are other minor issues with driver crashes, namely the keyboard, which inhibits the use of the keyboard and mouse pad. Most of the issues can be resolved by restarting the device. I have to restart my device way too often! And last but not least, the pen is great when it works, but what happens when the battery has died? As a Bluetooth device, I would expect some type of warning that the battery is low. Now, there may be an indicator, but where ever it is, apparently it is not conspicuous enough to have gotten my attention that the battery was dead and/or low. In conclusion, this device is great when it works, but when it doesn't, it goes horribly wrong.

I brought this 2 days before I deployed for the US Navy. I had to exchange my first one BC for some reason it would not connect with Google Chrome, turns out it would not hold a Internet connection even when hardwired. Best Buy was amazing and got me a new one. However now for some reason I can not use my keyboard and I'm deployed. My father will be going in tomorrow to see what's the deal and if there is anything that can be done. I did buy the extra black tie coverage so if anything I will just get a new one when I get home. I can still use the keyboard on the screen.

I have owned many laptops and tablets and work in the IT industry, so I end up working with all of the latest gadgets. I previously carried a Samsung Note 10.1 (2014 edition) tablet and a Lenovo X1 Carbon (3rd Gen) which were essentially best in class for their areas. The Surface Book beats them both at their own game. I like the thin/light, but large 13.5" writing surface and the fantastic Surface Pen in tablet mode. The keyboard is as good as the X1 Carbon when in laptop mode. All in all, it is just a fantastic machine and wroth the premium price. There were a few bugs with sleep/hibernate that have already been corrected with updates.

I was debating between the book and the pro to replace my previous laptop. The size of the screen is great. I was also intrigued by the detachment option because I would use the screen only for reading while on the plane. Battery usage distribution was also a good surprise (using screen only until 20% battery, then attaching it back to the keyboard that has 100% battery, they will eventually even out before having to recharge). I was hoping that this would completely replace my iPad as well ( that was wishful thinking). The book is definitely on the heavier end (imagine carrying two iPad Pro's). The physical quality of Microsoft's product lacks behind that of Apple (screen section does not align with/click on the keyboard section perfectly).
