Finally, one that works!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After two surface books that continued to lock up even after all updates, three visits to Micrsoft store and two Geek Squad visits, gave up and got a Surface . It works well . It worked right out of the box. Update eliminated slight flicker problem. This is the product I hoped for. Surface book problem must be in video processor because that is primary difference between the two products. this would be five star except for a one star pique penalty to make up for hours spent trying to make Surface Books work

Great for college student
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've been using the surface book for about a month now, and it has been very useful. I especially like the Drawboard PDF program for taking notes directly via stylus on lecture slides and hand outs. The touch screen is very responsive and the screen resolution and speakers are good. The only negative point was that, one time, the surface book's screen turned black and was unresponsive. I manually shut it off and it wouldn't turn back on (and I made sure to plug it in--it wasn't a battery/power issue). I waited a couple hours and it eventually turned back on like nothing ever happened. I don't know what was wrong and nothing has ever happened since then. Hopefully nothing else will ever happen. All in all, I am very pleased with the product. It has also gained much attention by my classmates and teachers, and now they want one themselves. It's light and versatile and functions as a laptop and tablet. The tablet/screen portion houses the hardware/memory and battery. The keyboard portion has it's own battery, too, so when both are connected to each other, the battery life is pretty long with minimum to moderate use.

Still impressive after a year of heavy use
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Buying the i5 Surface Book with the power base a year ago, I had no doubt it would do what I asked of it for a while. My concern was that after a year of being stuffed in a bag, used on battery power, and having its screen repeatedly disengaged from the keyboard, wear would take its toll, especially given the controversial hinge design. I'm happy to report that the laptop tablet hybrid is actually running even better than the day I got it. I say "better" because the glitch that prevented the Surface Book from truly going to sleep mode that plagued its release has been corrected. On a typical day, I run the SB on battery power for a several hours--more than the average user, I'd say. HW Monitor reports my battery wear to be a very impressive 7% despite hundreds of battery cycles. Given that 8-10% wear seems to be the norm for a year of normal usage, I really couldn't have asked for more given how frequently I cycle the battery. I do have two small complaints: The screen ghosts a bit, especially when dark objects scroll in videogames. Granted, I typically downscale games to 1080p (the SB is not exactly a gaming rig, but 1080p works just fine for Civ 5, XCOM, etc.);.it's typical for monitors to ghost when displaying resolutions other than the native one. Second, there are some hairline scratches on the screen. This is partly my fault for stuffing the SB into my crowded backpack, but it looks like to space bar is coming into contact with the screen, likely when compressed beyond what is intended. Even so, these are rarely visible during day to day use. Excellent piece of hardware! The pen and detachable screen continue to be super convenient, especially when marking up pdfs for school. And while the screen is a bit large for a tablet, it beats carrying and synching two different devices.

Best combination of a laptop and a tablet
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Light but yet powerful. The familiar Windows interface now comes with touch and there's always Office - a productivity tool that I can't live without

Good laptop for professionals with a few bugs.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love this laptop; beautiful design and decent internals although slightly expensive. I have always been a Windows user and Windows 10 Professional is a nice plus. I have been using this daily for tasks such as AutoCAD and relatively intensive products with little delay with inputs. I do minimal gaming (only League of Legends so far) and it runs okay. Slight frame drop at intensive video. Good laptop for students and professionals alike.

Excellent 2 in 1
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought the Microsoft Surface Book I5 with 256 gig ssd. I didn't need all the horsepower of the I7 or performance base. I have not been disappointed at all with my purchase. The screen is beautiful and the speed is great. Being able to detach the screen from the base is awesome. About the only con I can come up with is the battery could be a little better but that is not as big as a concern for me as it might be for other people.

great crossover
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Love this crossover, great Microsoft product. Overall awesome product from look, tech, style, docking and undocking. Only gripe I have is the gpu/graphics card, which isn't clearly stated what it has or what its pushing out. I know I'm talking about the gaming aspect but still just wished it had info on this or better yet an awesome graphics card. Awesome product though

Great Laptop
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I use my surface book for college. The Surface book is great in that it can function as a laptop computer or a tablet. The battery life is good. I have only had the computer freeze once. The worst thing about the computer would probably be the screen size for a laptop computer. It's kind of pricey, but the features make it worth it. It runs adobe photoshop and illustrator perfectly which is what I wanted in a laptop.

Great but has some bugs
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Love my surface book. It's an awesome product most of the time. But there are some bugs that I'm sure will get worked out. Sometimes it's unresponsive and the screen is dark, so you either wait it out or force reboot. Occasionally, I've had to detach the screen and reattach it if the track pad becomes unresponsive. I've also had the battery drain and heat issue (google it) when it's supposed to be sleeping. All in all, those are minor issues compared to the functionality it provides.

Laptop plus tablet rocks!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have been a hard core mac user for 15 years and when I saw this computer I loved the design. Add to it the touchscreen and tablet capability and it is all you need. They keyboard is much more durable than the previous versions of surface pros. This is a laptop and so much more. Easy to set up and use.

Ideal laptop!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So glad I made this purchase. The detachable screen & stylus turn into a notepad for meetings. The conversion from my writing to text makes sharing my notes easier. Love the ability to highlight and make notations on web articles & drag them into One Note. This laptop has simplified my life!

Just what we were waiting for
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We had been looking to purchase a surface pro when they came out--but really didn't like the small screen or the keyboard. Wanted something a bit more like a traditional laptop, but with the versatility of the surface tablets that were so popular. This was a splurge for us, but it has been nice so far. There have been a few small issues (time/date keeps getting off), had a driver issue, but all in all, it's been a fun machine.

Great first laptop created by Microsoft
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this Laptop after my last laptop broke down and it is extremely solid. One thing I love about it is that all the heat is released from the tablet portion instead of the keyboard portion like all other traditional laptops. It would be an even better laptop/tablet if it had a USB-Type C and LTE capability. Overall its a really nice premium laptop.

Only drawback is the price.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It is so nice to have a clean PC with no bloat ware and that feels and works like a premium machine. I have used the tablet alone only twice so far, but both times it worked flawlessly with the pen. I highly recommend, but its unusually high price tag (I would say $500 more than a similarly equipped HP or Dell 2 in 1) costs it a star.
