You get what you pay. I am thankful I can take all notes in this for my school. It feels like writing in paper. Saving tree and environmental friendly I guess. Its also super light, I have mostly use for laptop only. Battery life is unbeleivalble. When I first got it, It was sort of buggy but all the updates have fixed everything with it. I also love to holo log in with face, makes it so much easier. Thank you Microsoft.

I like it is faster than most desktops, light and has a very long battery. It is totally quiet (unlike my previous Sony laptop and the keyboard is also quiet. I have not yet found a good reason to use the pen but I like that it has two cameras. I am just worried that the harddrive is too small but I am starting to use cloud storage.

    Amazing Laptop When it Works

The laptop boasts everything you would expect it too for a dual-battery, Intel Skylake based system with a dedicated graphics unit and NVMe SSD: boots and starts up very fast, runs basic apps with incredibly low latencies and nice snappiness, long battery life, and a wonderfully vibrant display. I love the clipboard capabilities with the pen (drawing engineering diagrams and flow charts has never been easier) and the clipboard is much lighter than it looks easing the ability to hold it for extended periods. This thing has some great processing power I've used for FPGA simulation and compilation that rivals my old (year and a half) big bad workstation that was about the same price. The major cons with this laptop are price $$$$, the fact that the first pen that was delivered with the system was broken (Best Buy replaced with no questions, great service), I had to instantly reimage the drive due to an issue with the initial setup of the laptop, and the fact that it can inexplicably stall when coming out of sleep or when detaching the display. There have been many times I've gone to show off my sleek new laptop and the thing stalls when taking the display off...makes you feel rather sheepish about your expensive metal brick. Overall, I'm not sure I would recommend this laptop for anyone that isn't a very patient competent computer user due to all of its stalls and current technical difficulties. This thing is absolutely incredible at times, but I'd wait for the Surface Book 2 before considering....

Out of the box, the Surface Book is a gem. It is really my first experience with Win10, too, and most of my challenges have surrounded getting used to Win10. Hardware-wise, the Surface Book is beautiful. It is light weight, flexible, and it is very easy to go from tablet to laptop and back again. I much prefer the "real" keyboard to the feel of the original keyboards on the Surface RT and the Surface 2. If you like drawing or writing , consider ordering the additional set of pen tips directly from Microsoft - a set of four different tips runs about $10 and last time I checked, the shipping was free. I'm very happy I made the investment in the top of the line (at the time) so it will fill my needs for quite a while. From a Windows 10 adjustment perspective, I have learned a few things since making my purchase which I will share with you. * Microsoft is really pushing to have people work "from the cloud", and the Surface Book does it smoothly. * Out of the box, though, you'll want to turn ON the System Restore function. Mine was off by default and I had a bit of a learning curve since I was moving from Windows 7 to 10. It took me a while to find out how to get into Safe Mode for troubleshooting when I wanted it. The restore point came in handy due to a work-related third-party VPN configuration that went awry. * Finally, I would also recommend setting up a separate local Admin login account with full administrator rights in addition to your account which uses your Microsoft account. It will help with more techie things if you're a geek like me, and give you a way to access the Surface Book in the event you have a problem logging in with your Microsoft account. * If you're not a techie and none of those last few sentences made sense or they intimidated you, don't worry. This is still an excellent device for you. You can always find a neighborhood kid or a family friend to help you with the stuff I mentioned above, so no worries. Great hardware experience, and I'm really liking the articulated hinge. I like that the pen is magnetic and will stay attached to the side of the screen, and I'm really enjoying the ability to use OneNote so effortlessly by clicking the pen. I also appreciate the eraser on the pen, too. Overall, the hardware has a well crafted design and seems like it will hold up to my heavy usage.

This is by far the best laptop I have yet to purchase. Ditch the iPad and ibook. This is both in one. And way better. Faster processor, more ram, bigger faster hard drive, better screen than retina display. Overall better everything. You will not be disappointed.

I had to send for a replacement with Microsoft because it kept crashing. But once the proper one arrived I've loved it. Really fast and love the pen and keyboard. Also really easy to use as a tablet.

I bought this on a whim and it has ended up replacing most of my other machines in daily use. battery life is excellent. Power is very good. Expandability with the docking station is excellent. I do wish the 1tb model had been available when I purchased since I always end up short on space. I have yet to run into any applications than have made me want to switch to my workstation (I used all of Adobe's Creative Cloud apps). My only real usability complaint is not an issue with the machine itself, but with some 3rd party apps inability to gracefully handle the ultra high screen resolution of the surface book. The one that gives me the most grief is Nik Tools add-in for Photoshop. The issue is that the tool has hard coded text size, which results in text so small that there is no way to read it. A real pain. Overall I am very happy with the purchase and I'd buy it again without hesitation.

After returning two of these for different issues, the first had a key broken and the second blue screened over and over, I haven't had any issues with it. There are a few design flaws that I can tell. 1) the power cord is way to short; 2) the magnetic pen is a joke if you plan on using an external screen and have the book closed (the power cord doesn't allow you to attach the pen; and 3) it sometimes thinks the screen is not attached so you have to remove it and reattach it to get the keyboard working. Other than those, its a nice computer but it is way over priced.

The Surface Book has totally replaced my DELL XPS workstation without any sacrifice of speed or graphics. My job entails massive spreadsheet computations with macros and huge data files; the Surface Book chews thru my work with no lag whatsoever. I also use a CAD program to design retail merchandising space and the Surface Book runs flawlessly under large graphic loads. For the past 10 years, I’ve had to travel with a 10 lb. workstation, the Surface Book weighs less than the power supply of my DELL. I feel almost “liberated”! The only problem I had was hooking up my HD monitor to the docking station – The folks from the Geek Squad go it fixed by forcing down a firmware update to the Surface Book. Now my two HD monitors run perfectly in 3840 x 2160 res. I would recommend purchasing the docking station (and mini adapters) with the computer. This computer is a true game changer for those of us who were looking for a powerhouse in a small package.

I ordered mine to be in on the release in October. I got the 16 g 500 gb surface book. I was blown away with it because it was truly beautiful. I used it for several weeks then my problems came. The laptop when it is turned on initially the mouse pad wouldn't work. Sometimes when you disconnect and reconnect the tablet the computer would freeze and crash. I gave it back to Best Buy they got me w new one and it works perfect. The end

I actually purchased the Surface Book primarily to be able to access some files from work that absolutely would not work properly on a MAC computer no matter what I did; they would not even work with emulation software. But they work perfectly on a Surface Book, and I'm really happy with the portability of the Surface Book. The idea of being able to detach the screen from the base unit which contains the keyboard is pretty slick, but the only problem is that the battery life suffers a bit when doing this. However, the ability to detach the screen, then flip it around, and re-attach it to the "base" unit to create a tablet returns it to the longer battery life which would be expected. This is a very user-friendly device, and is fairly easy to use even for those of us who have used a MAC for many years. I would certainly recommend this for its portability and flexibility when using a "Windows" computing environment.

This is an amazing 2-in-1 device. I was looking at different options for a month before making the decision to go with the surface book. I had a little bit of trouble getting the device first setup out of the box. However, after some firmware and software updates the device is working great. I am very happy with the device and works amazingly for what I am looking for in a computer. I would recommend doing your research before purchasing this device and make sure that for the price it meets your needs that you are looking for. I would definitely recommend this device for someone however, I would recommend looking around for a great price before paying retail. I wouldn't recommend such an expensive device to someone who is looking to casually surf the web, check emails, or write word documents.

I like the color of the unit and size of the product. The screen is fantastic. I enjoy the speed and storage. The removal of the screen and to flip it back on the keyboard is a great concept. The keyboard touch is excellent. The battery life is good for what I use it for. Can't wait to explore the most popular parts and features.

This is a fantastic laptop! Its lightweight to carry around and easy to detach the screen for use as a tablet. Its the perfect size. Not too small that you can't read the screen but not too big to be portable. Its lightning fast to boot up and the touch screen is very responsive! I love that I can sign documents right on the screen and send them on their way without having to print, sign and rescan!

I have been looking a the Surface product line for a while, as my WIN 7 laptop was aging, but none of the tablets caught my eye. I started seeing the Surface Book in the store and it was only a matter of time before one was mine. I was trying to edit video from my drone and neither my desktop or laptop had the horsepower to successfully complete the process. This machine was the cure. Nice keyboard design. I like the fact that it detaches and will reattach after a 360 turn. Makes the tablet usage easier if you are on a flat surface. Easy to install software. No bugs or issues so far after 4 weeks and several updates. All around, very well built computer.

What an upgrade!!! I use this as my everything machine. 3 years ago i replaced my work desktop with the Surfacr Pro 2. Now I replaced the Pro 2 with this. This is a ton more powerful than the Pro2. Add the surface dock and it is the perfect desktop replacement. As a tablet, it has a huge screen and awesome visuals. As a laptop it has even more power and an awesome keyboard. Microsoft recently updated the drivers and all the quirks that it had as far as going in and out of sleep are now gone. Don't hesitate to upgrade a business/ life changer.
