Customers are saying

Customers enjoy the Surface Book 2-in-1's beautiful screen, ease of use, lightweight design, and solid performance. Many appreciate its portability and sleek aesthetics, although some experienced issues with the keyboard and battery life. The high price point was also a recurring concern for some buyers. While most found the device to be a worthwhile investment, potential buyers should be aware of these potential drawbacks.

Hardware Fails, and Support is Worthless

This device should be a good laptop. But it has so many hardware defects that it costs dozens of hours in the first few days of ownership to try to overcome them. And Microsoft support is hostile, ill-informed, and aggressively opposed to doing anything appropriate. If they had any sense of decency, they would be overwhelmed by shame.

The computer was very 'snappy' and responsive but the whole new Windows experience is typical of Microsoft software; it takes a while to get used to it.

I needed this for school. and also to use with art and animation (professional artist pursuing degree in gaming). This computer is fast, capable of running many games and design programs. Not as well as my desktop, but better than expected with the added feature of the fantastic pen!

Adobe programs rung great on it with the touchscreen. Overall happy but other programs have not caught up with windows 10 & appear small on screen.

Some blue screen issues and docking issues but all around good for Adobe programs. Windows 10 still needs work for some programs though.

I picked this up on launch day at Best Buy. Have had a Surface Pro 3 that I got at Best Buy shortly after it launched. The Pro 3 is a well designed, flexible machine, but it hits a certain niche. The Surface Book builds on the Surface Pro 3, but provides a much more solid laptop experience, with an easy detach for a tablet. And flipping the screen to what MS calls "clipboard" is equally useful. The keyboard design has proven to be well thought out, spacing of keys and the track pad work well (much better than on the Pro keyboards). I have found the larger screen to be another improved feature, both using it as a laptop and detached as a tablet. I finally started making more use of One Note with the pen, using the clipboard mode, over using it on the Pro 3. For the Pro 3 I got the i5/8gb/256gb model for which performance was never an issue. It has been a great machine. When considering the Surface Book I was considering the jump to 16gb/512gb, but I went with the i7/8gb/256gb/gpu model. In addition to Office I have Creative Suite and a host of other applications installed. 16gb would have been better, but I have had no issues with the 8gb. The i7 has had no performance issues. I believe the added gpu is part of the improved performance. The transition to detaching and re-attaching the screen is simple. MS did an excellent job designing hardware that provides the user a host of user experiences. I have been using it for a few weeks now in all three modes.... laptop, tablet and clipboard. I think after steadily working the design of the Surface Pro line MS was able to draw on that well to offer a truly flexible laptop. The pen works well. The eraser is convenient and the sensors for your wrist, etc work well so that it picks up on the pen but not if you rest your palms on the screen. If you are looking for a machine that gives you more options, or can't decide between a tablet or a laptop, the Surface Book is well worth considering. The design is more solid than most of the hybrids. There is a premium in the price, but the components, design and construction, and flexibility for many user modes help justify that.

Just like how Apple makes a phenomenal quality laptop. Microsoft by far is the best manufacturer of Windows PC. Quality does not fall short. encourage you to go in to the store pick it up turn around look at the construction of this wonderful laptop .

Honestly I wasn't looking to get a 2-in-1 computer but after my brother showed me this laptop and I started using the computer I realized this was the best fit for me. As a medical student I wouldn't be able to survive without this laptop!

I officially HATE this laptop. It was and is a cool concept, but I have had nothing but headaches with this thing. From the beginning, I had a problem with the machine restarting itself every time it went into standby mode. All the files I had open, my email, everything closed and the system restarted. Sometimes the laptop won't power up unless you do a hard reset, holding the power button. But at least the files auto-save. But for the past few weeks, and getting progressively worse, the keystrokes do not type the letters onto the screen, Excel spreadsheets lock up, and the mouse pad stops responding. I spent way too much money on this laptop for it to perform so poorly less than a year later.

My son left for college a week ago so we bought him a computer a few weeks ago. He's not a computer guy and generally gets annoyed wit technology. After getting it set up he loved it and uses it all the time.
