Customers enjoy the Surface Book 2-in-1's beautiful screen, ease of use, lightweight design, and solid performance. Many appreciate its portability and sleek aesthetics, although some experienced issues with the keyboard and battery life. The high price point was also a recurring concern for some buyers. I first tried purchasing the next lower model without success. I had to return it even before I left the store. A couple weeks later I purchased the $2099 model. I have had a few issues with video flashing / blanking out. that problem went away two weeks ago. Most likely Microsoft fixed the video driver. I am having a problem with the power supply going on and off randomly. other than that I am pretty happy with the performance.. The best advise I could give is to make sure to let all your updates install before you try to install any apps so the the system will stabilize. By returning the previous model and waiting to buy this one, I caught this one on sale for about the same price as the lesser model. That made it worth the wait.

I had a few problems out of the box with the HD Graphics driver but they appear to have been solved with remote help from Microsoft and updates. It took a while, though. The machine is attractive looking and performs well now. I find the battery does not last as long as projected but I can still get by nicely with the length of battery use, and I am hoping future updates will address battery life. I think tablet use is not in the cards until battery issues are addressed. All in all, since tablet use is not my main concern, I am very happy with the Surface Book.

Fully Apply All Updates and Then Review

I decided to upgrade from my Surface Pro 2 (which is STILL awesome by the way) because I wanted a traditional laptop keyboard. I never had any issues with the Pro 2, so despite the reviews of the Book's bugs I decided to take a gamble. In short, I think that as of this review, if you fully apply all available updates, then the majority of the bugs have been squashed. I personally haven't had any issues for the last month but I can't speak for others. The only con (and for me it isn't a big deal because I use the Book primarily for work) is that the aspect ratio for movies is odd. It doesn't bother me, but if you watch a lot of movies you may wish to reconsider. Battery life is way better than my SP2 but when I do any gaming it sucks the life out of the Book pretty quickly.

I bought two of these for our IT Dept. I am very impressed by the build quality. I suggest running windows update as soon as you get the surface book going in order to get the latest software and firmware. I have not run into any bugs at all. These guys are lighting fast and turn lots of heads. Great product. As a tech enthusiast, I highly recommend this to anyone who is looking for a premium experience for both software and hardware. There is a little screen wobble but not a big deal. The stylus feels like writing with a pen/pencil on glossy paper, the closest I've felt to an actual pen and paper feel. Screen is beautiful, best colors I've seen on any display I've owned. Keyboard, although a little small than what I'm used to, feels excellent. I will say have used it more as a laptop than a tablet.

The laptop was very fast and worked well, but trying to set it up with a workstation with multiple monitors did not work. This is a known issue with microsoft and they are working on it, but it is not fixed yet. They sell the surface dock saying it can work with multiple monitors, but it crashes the computer and is not consisent

So, I love everything about the Surface Book... EXCEPT a software glitch (at least in my opinion). For some reason, the New Windows 10 software on the Surface Book prevents you from opening OneDrive from the file folder unless you sync the OneDrive files to the Surface Book... which completely defeats the purpose of the cloud storage! It has been extremely frustrating to deal with.

My experience with the Surface Book has been pretty great. There have been incredibly minor glitches that are easily handled assuming you possess a tiny bit of tech experience, and if you are dropping this much for a pc, then you most likely do.
The Surface Book allowed me to consolidate my large gaming PC and all its parts into a tiny lightweight portable system, that I can use while I am at school.
Battery life has been great, no issues.
Use while not plugged in shows minuscule performance loss (for what I do)
To me this is the PC version of a macbook. It's sturdy and thus far has stood up to everything that I have thrown at it. It is exactly the kind of power I have been looking for portable PCs to start having.

On the surface (hah!) the Surface Book looks absolutely wonderful and is both visually and physically well made. You can tell that as far as the "premium" device category goes Microsoft really wanted to hit home.
Once you get past the skin, though, there are some issues (several of them have been fixed at the time of writing this review, but not all of them) that have plagued the launch. The issues have ranged from firmware/hardware on Microsoft's side and some into the NVIDIA GPU side of things.
Since a lot of people don't make it to the bottom of reviews, a quick intervention into the most glaring compatibility issue: Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop and Illustrator, mainly). If you do not intend on using these products there is a very good chance you won't see many issues with your purchase, if any.
And now to continue, if you're a technologically proficient person you can probably work your way around these issues and bide your time until Microsoft and NVIDIA have completely resolved the issues.
For the non-techies, though, I would certainly recommend you getting this product, but only after researching online for recent results (past week, past month) to see what the general populous is saying about bugs at the time of purchase. Understand that at time of purchase your device may not have all of the recent patches. Just fire that bad boy up, hook it up to a wireless access point, and update it.

Microsoft - Surface Book is the absolute best 2-in-1 Laptop in the market with a touch screen. Actually Microsoft lied to me its not twice but three times faster than the Macbook Pro.

I bought this to replace a larger laptop (first world problems). Initially it was interesting to figure out how to dock it with my existing gear without spending a bunch more money. I travel between two offices so I keep a dock and monitors in both places. After working out a few bugs it has been pretty seamless. There are still some software things Microsoft is working with that I have confidence will be addressed in updates. The ease and power of this book make it worth the price of admission!

So far I like the computer, and Win10 is much improved over Win8. The pen is a little buggy, and randomly quits working . This is incredibly inconvenient when I'm taking notes for class. The weight is great for toting around campus, which was a primary concern. The battery life was another selling point. It certainly doesn't last as long as claimed, but I could easily get 6 hours of active use out of it during class. Taking the screen off is super convenient, and I like the more "laptop" style of the "tablet" style of the Pro. The screen-only battery lasted at least 2 hours of active use.

I love my Surface Book! It is faster then any laptop I have used before, and be certain, it is a laptop. I have not installed a log on it, but I do have Borderlands 2 and Bioshock Infinity which can be played on the highest res with no lag.
Also I am a student pursuing an advanced degree, and I find the Surface Book excellent for taking notes. Not to mention the amazing Onenote integration that lets you take notes directly on pretty much anything include webpages and such.
The battery life is great, the pen is great, the screen is amazing, I cannot say enough good things about it.

Aside from firmware and software updates that were needed and not available when purchased and some glitches here and there it's a great, one of a kind product. I can grade work with the pen, carry around just the tablet portion to check off work, design in SolidWorks on the go, meet clients and have the best of all worlds.

This machine is a beast. I made the change from a MacBook Pro that I was running boot camp on with a Windows 7 pro set up for my business applications and then switching to OS X for Adobe design suite. After switching to the surface book I am not looking back. This runs Adobe applications like a pro, I love being able to annotate documents, spreadsheets, and drawings in freehand with the pen. There has been some bugs with connecting to th surface dock when I run dual monitors, but a software update fixed the problem. Get one you won't regret it.

I own a Surface Pro 3 and was intrigued by the Surface Book. I read several reviews and understood that it is a flip on the Surface Pro in that it is more of a laptop that can be used as a tablet. This is an important distinction and one that Microsoft may have taken a bit too far. I use it for software development, Office, and I run some older games that require a keyboard so I do use it in laptop mode frequently. The size and feel is awesome. I love the detachable/flip-able tablet configuration. The tablet is amazingly light, but at the expense of any ports. You will need the tablet to be plugged into the keyboard to attach any device or charge it (despite the fact it has its own battery). It would be nice at times if the tablet could be a bit more of a standalone device. That stated, the battery life when attached is outstanding.

I am very happy with the surface book, it's an awesome laptop, a great tablet and a cool hybrid. The hardware is awesome but compared to Apple iOS the software has a bit to go to make this a really smooth experience. Going from tablet mode to laptop mode is a little strange and you loose some abilities or have to re-learn the interface. All it's a fun machine but am excited to let the software catch up with the hardware.

Excellent experience purchasing this item, sales person was knowledgeable and helpful. Computer is a great size and very light weight for a powerhouse computer. I knew nothing about Windows 10, but am learning and enjoying the computer very much. Only drawback I have seen so far is that balancing laptop on lap can be tricky as sometime depending on position computer can get top heavy. But this is minor compared to all the great things about this machine. Viewing 4K video is exceptional. Sound, although not great is still very good to me.
I would recommend this computer to all !!!
