Customers enjoy the Surface Book 2-in-1's beautiful screen, ease of use, lightweight design, and solid performance. Many appreciate its portability and sleek aesthetics, although some experienced issues with the keyboard and battery life. The high price point was also a recurring concern for some buyers. While most found the device to be a worthwhile investment, potential buyers should be aware of these potential drawbacks.

Surface Book ($2099 model) beginning experience is a 1 star rating. Many problems out of the box. Got login screen rather than setup screen -- had to change login options and reboot first. Returned first unit after 4 days when screen saver wouldn't disengage (stayed black). BestBuy replaced it and Windows 10 updating took a week before it started working properly. Option for facial recognition wasn't available for 3 weeks. Couldn't download or update apps from Store because of a sign-in problem, which took 2 more weeks to figure out. I gave 3 stars because of the good quality and experience after you get things working right, as well as relative cost. I love the hardware but my initial experience was terrible. SB is now running quieter, cooler, and battery lasting longer after all of the updates, which occurred via WIFI. Still trying to get use to the sensitivity of the mouse pad. Cursor sometimes jumps to wrong location as I am typing. Many programs don't properly adjust for the high rez screen (something I've seen on other HD laptops). Their presentation results in a small window. I do love the pen when drawing. You can get similarly configured thin laptops (with larger drives) for less but won't have "convert to tablet" and probably have less battery life. Make sure you decide what you will do with it before buying -- i.e., what software to run on it, as that's the key to being productive and picking the right size unit. Full disclosure: I've built desktops, and own 17" and 15" MacBook Pro's. My Windows 10 desktop and MacBook Pro's are still more productive than the Surface Book, which I've had for 1.5 months. I could only recommend this in limited situations.

Absolutely love it. Expands the dimensions of use and application over my old MacBook Pro (still a great laptop in its own class). Coupled with Office 365 it provides a whole new world of powerful electronic management of your daily life. The tablet feature is really cool and the touch screen works incredibly well. Definitely recommend.

Apps not compatible

The apps in the App Store wouldn't load. I had to contact Microsoft and they couldn't figure out why. They determined something was corrupt and had to reimage my surface. In doing so, I lost all my ITunes music that I transferred from my Mac. Thousands of songs that were loaded from CDs were lost and the Surface doesn't have a disc drive. Additionally, I recorded a video on the camera but when I went to play it, I get a message it is not compatible. I switched to the Surface because I couldn't learn the Mac. It is ridiculous that the camera that is standard on the surface can't replay videos you record on it.

Worst Out of Box Experience Ever!

Brand new right out of the box without installing any software programs----> graphics card driver crashes, some windows updates crashed and would not install, the firmware update dated 10/23/2015 crashed and would not install, and random crashes. Wiped it clean and did a factory reset. Some of the updates installed after the factory reset. The firmware update crashed and did not install after the factory reset. The screen unlatch button would work for 1/2 a second before resetting itself to latch. Not enough time for me to remove the tablet screen from the base. Wiped and did a factory reset again. Then all updates installed including the firmware update. The unlatch button was not fixed. The worst brand new out of the box computer experience I have had in over 25 years. I gave up and returned it. I think it's a great device if things worked the way MS intended them to work. Perhaps it may get better after a few more months of Windows, drivers, and firmware updates.

Got the Surface Book recently. I use it for work and play. Music composition, gaming, or streaming it's all good. Sleek with a beautiful big hi rez display. I've already been asked a couple of times by complete strangers what it was. Gets the job done and more. I couldn't be happier with my purchase

I originally wanted the Pro but decided on the Book as I liked the keyboard and larger screen. I primarily use for logging into my office computer when not at work. I need something fast and dependable. The batteries are amazing in their keeping charged. So far I really like the Surface Book!

Right out of box fully capable. Only thing to be aware is that you need regular WIFI (not hotel with password!) to set up. If you dont have WIFI access you will need to buy an ethernet adapter (there is no ethernet port on this machine).
Fast and sleek, I am not disappointed

Great device when it worked. Unfortunately spent most of my time staring at blue screens while it rebooted. Ended up exchanging it for an i5 version which seems to be a little better.

I really enjoy the flexibility offered by this laptop that so easily converts to a tablet. The large touch screen is easy to navigate. Only thing I would do to improve the the package is to include a mouse with the package. The TouchPad works ok, I just prefer a mouse.
