Not worth the money
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It’s not bad but not worth the price tag for me. I’ve always been an Apple person but for work needed a pc. This cost more than my MacBook Pro and there’s lag when multitasking and the screen quality is below my old 2009 laptop.

Lackluster performance for its price
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have had this laptop for a week now, and from my usage, I was able to discern the positives and negatives aspects of this computer. The screen resolution is great, has crisp and life-like images, along with ample brightness. I enjoy how this laptop has various modes for usage, it lives up to its 2-in-1 title. The keyboard travel is adequate, it provides for a smooth typing experience. I also like how it has enough space on both sides of the trackpad to rest my palms on when I type, it's very comfortable. However, I must say there were quite a few things I wasn't happy about: the night light issue, sound issue, and Bluetooth issue. I have set it up so the night light should turn on/off automatically from sunrise->sunset, however it never does it automatically and I always have to manually turn it on/off, which I find inconvenient. As for the the sound, it was fine at first, but when I used the "Narrator" feature to read a pdf on the Web, the sound system produces this annoying crackling noise along with the narration. For the Bluetooth issue, when I use my wireless earbuds (not Airpods) to connect to my videoconferencing sessions, whenever I unmute myself to talk, it cuts off the audio completely for both sides and I end up having to use my speakers to finish the call. I've verified that my earbuds are not the problem because I was able to videoconference on my iPad and other devices and they worked fine. Because of the above issues I am not really happy with my purchase.

This thing is a BEAST!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overview When the first Surface Book was released I was very excited about the prospect of a premium laptop + tablet experience and how it might fit into my personal workflow. The Surface Book 3 is the result of constant refinement of a unique and premium design with huge improvements to the performance and software. As a engineering professional and hobbyist I've found it to be the almost perfect machine! Design From the original Surface Book to the 3rd generation the design has only seen minor changes. The larger screen provides for a beautiful canvas for both work and play with accurate color and brightness levels that allow you to see when working outside in bright daylight, which is important to me as I am constantly on the go. The party piece of the Surface Book line is that this screen contains all the laptop guts and can be removed from the base with the push of a keyboard or software button. This transition is fast and allows for flexibility in work style. You can use the tablet by itself or flip the screen around and re-attach for a presentation mode or close the device with the screen out for an angle writing surface (pun not intended) when paired with a Surface Pen. The fit and finish is what you would expect from the Surface line. The product feels sturdy – the 15” version which I have is weighty, but I find this to be forgivable as I can avoid carrying a tablet. The screen locking mechanism is incredibly strong and it makes you feel confident as you remove, flip, and reattach the tablet portion. The keyboard offers excellent travel and has a very crisp tactile feel. The keys are well spaced which allows me to type with speed and accuracy as I knock through documents, social posts, and even this review. The trackpad is still among the best I have used in terms of multitouch and silky smooth scrolling, but I do wish it was larger to make gestures easier for my larger hands. The I/O is pretty standard – Microsoft has opted to include 2 USB type A, a full sized SD card reader (yes!) and USB C. Unfortunately, the USB C is not a thunderbolt port – so you miss out on the highest peripheral speeds, however USB C should be sufficient for most. Microsoft and others sell USB C adapters to provide HDMI, ethernet, and additional ports. Power is provided through the magnetically coupled Surface Connect port, which is great if you accidently trip on your power cable. From here you can add a Surface Dock 2, which I use to connect the Surface Book 3 to an external monitor. Finally, a power only USB is included on the charger block which is a small, but great touch that I find myself using often. Performance I use this Surface Book for my design work and hobbies which includes a wide variety of applications: Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator for graphics, Autodesk Inventor and Fusion 360 for CAD modeling and rendering, and Altium Designer for PCB design. None of these are ‘light’ application by any means and often I run them side by side. While rendering a 60 part assembly in Fusion 360 (a very graphically intensive task) I was also able to auto trace and render multilayer boards in Altium, something I previously unable to do. This helped me improve my workflow efficiency by providing me with the ability to effectively multitask and keep both of these applications cranking in the background while I can work on documentation or browse the internet and email. For Photoshop and Illustrator, handling files with many layers and elements is a breeze with no stuttering or waiting for styling operations to complete. This experience is even better when you add the surface pen which has robust support in these applications providing an excellent drawing canvas experience. At the end of the day the Surface Book 3 is no slouch when it comes to power or capability handling everything I threw at it all while staying reasonably warm. I've been very impressed using it in my daily flow for both its performance and hybrid drawing tablet design. *Reviewers in this invitation-only program are provided products for the purpose of writing honest, unbiased reviews.*

Book 3 /
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. For its price, it is definitely not a powerful laptop. Adobe Animate crashed at least ten times during its first boot, and the fact that mouse trace is extremely slow compared to stylus trace is disappointing. You are paying $1999 solely for the 2 in 1 feature that it exclusive to the Book 3. Other than that, there are better laptops for lower price.

Practical and Beautiful
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Reviewers in this invitation-only program are provided products for the purpose of writing honest, unbiased reviews I was so excited to get this product to test. Upon opening the packaging was sleek and functional and easy to deal with. The device instantly felt good in my hands and when I opened it the hinge operated smoothly and with little force but still holds it's position very well. This is a very well engineered product. The charging puck has a USB port for charging another device. This means when I travel I don't need to bring an extra charger - fantastic. The charging cable attaches magnetically to either the base or the tablet. The keyboard feels very comfortable and has a large and sensitive touch pad. This is the first laptop that has a keyboard that is a pleasure to use and although I could hook up an auxiliary unit I didn't feel the need what so ever. Detaching the base is like magic. Hold the detach button for a few seconds and the screen indicates it is "Ready to Detach." With a gentle tug the pieces separate. Joining them together is as simple as placing the tablet back in place and the pieces "know" it is time to "be one" again. Once joined the connection is as solid as a permanent hinge. In fact I thought that it was a laptop and not a convertible until I found the detach button. The tablet is remarkably light and the touch screen is responsive and gives a sharp beautiful picture. As for sound, I don't think I would use this for a boom box but it is the best sounding laptop or tablet I have had in my hands and quite frankly sounds better than one of my stand alone monitors. As for performance, this thing rocks! I am not a professional but I do video and photo editing and once I got over the excitement of holding if for the first time I got to business and installed my video and photo editing software. Some of my devices can barely run them - this is the fastest computer in my collection. Video rendering was fast and I could multitask at the same time with no noticeable degradation in performance. I highly recommend this for anyone that needs a high quality, durable, and high preforming device.

Don't Buy Surface Books
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Keyboard is a rip off. Punky & expensive keyboard. An Apple strategy to lock you in, only can use their junk. If punky/expensive keyboard breaks, its bad news and too bad for the buyer. Extremely unhappy. Don't BUY! Support is expense and poor, very poor. Arrogant.

Quality control issues
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The hinge kept making a popping sound every time I closed it. For a $2000+ device that is unacceptable. There was also an uneven gap between the tablet screen and base on one side when the tablet was attached to the keyboard. I decided to return it since this was the 2nd unit I bought that had a noisy hinge.

Crashes crashes crashes!!
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This computer crashes continuously. It would crash when running multiple programs. I would be on a zoom call and the entire system would crash and restart for no reason at all. I didn’t have software running on the computer. I saw online that this was a issue that others were having with this computer as well. I could be streaming Hulu then it would crash. Since I was a elite best but members I was within my 45 day warranty and returned it for a 2020 Mac Book Pro which was $100 more than this computer. (The I7 processor Mac book pro) I’m so glad I made the switch no more random system crashes.

Ridiculous crashes and errors.
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Awesome connectivity. Every few seconds there is an alert sound, followed by a pop up window saying ‘auto rotate’ and then another pop up saying ‘attached’ - I never detached anything. Happened constantly, did I mention that? I’ve had about 20 system failure shut downs for no known reason also. Slow as snot. Verrrrrrrry disappointed. Will be making an appt with geek squad and probably exchanging for a new one. Maybe it’s a fluke.

Didn't Turn On After 2 Months of Use
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought the computer and within 60 days, it no longer turned on. I own a business and this was not a good situation. I probably used it less than 10 hours since I use my PC more, but i am very disappointed by the quality of this expensive laptop. Sending back to MS since it's under 1 year.
