Customers are saying

Customers are enthusiastic about the Surface Dock's ease of use, abundant USB ports, and ability to support multiple monitors. Many appreciate its compact size and compatibility with Surface devices, while also finding the improved connectivity and charging capabilities beneficial. However, some customers find the price to be high and the weight a bit cumbersome. A shorter-than-ideal cable length was also a recurring point of feedback.

I've been using this for 2 months now to see how effective it would be. I had been using an older Surface Dock for my Surface Pro 3 but bought this when I purchased my Laptop 2. The best feature for me is the size. It's a fraction of the size of the old dock but gives me the same flexibility and ability to use my peripherals. I realize it's not as versatile with respect to ports as some folks would like (i.e., USB-C ports) but it does what I need it to. I can plug in my scanners (2 of them), my laptop, and an external monitor (but you need another adapter for that which is not a deal breaker for me at all). Bottom line is this fills a need for me. It helps that it was on sale when I bought it for well below list price, and that the advertised price on the Best Buy site was even cheaper which the store honored. I'm happy with it.

Great and Simple Dock for the Surface Line

This product is excellent. Even though it uses a proprietary port, it's convenient not to use up one of the two USB ports. It functions quite well and the updater tool works with no problems. My only gripe is that the included wall plug (not the wire that plugs into the AC adapter) is a little too short. If you have the original charger that came with Surface you can switch the wires as they are compatible.

Much better design than the docking station for the Surface Pro 4. Out of sight, out of mind.

Nice adapter, but 1 star ding - not a "dock"

I'm impressed by the technical prowess of Microsoft to be able to handle so many connections to so many peripherals through a single cable connection to the actual machine, and still be able to deliver an electrical charge through said cable. -1 star ding though since it's not really a "dock". I consider this an adapter. One heck of an adapter, but an adapter none the less.

This is a nice solid dock for the most part, but it doesn suffer from the same weakness I've had with other docks with Mini-DP ports - they just stop working. I have deployed about 25 of these and with over half of them I had to replace the mini-DP connection with a USB to HDMI adapter after a few weeks when the mini-DP's just stopped working. I haven't had this problem with this dock only though. I've had it with other vendor docking solutions that use Mini-DP

This product works great, but the price is high. Otherwise, it would be perfect. If you need additional USB ports, you can connect a simple USB hub as an extension.
