After reading many tech reviews of this product, I was initially hesitant to purchase this product because of its apparently low performance "Pentium Gold" processor and its eMMC storage. I could not justify paying for a Surface Pro 6 as I needed something lighter and do not need an i5 to watch videos and run Remote Desktop (this buy is intended to be my secondary computer). Therefore, I felt compelled to take a chance on this one.
Built: Very well built with rounded edges on the back that make it easy to carry and use in tablet mode. The bezels are a little thick, but that makes it well suited to be used in the tablet mode. The screen has a very good resolution for this price point, the inclusion of a USB-C makes it very easy to connect to an external monitor if needed (I don't have the expensive Surface Dock, I just use and HDMI to USB-C converter), or sometimes even as a charging port.
Software: For the first couple of days until my Type Keyboard arrived, I experimented in the tablet mode while still in the 'S' Mode. It worked quite well, the touch is very responsive and the on-screen keyboard is not bad. Turned out I wasn't a big fan of the 'S' mode - I needed Cisco Anyconnect to use Remote Desktop, and therefore ended up switching to Windows 10 Home which is free and extremely easy. I downloaded Chrome, and this was not at all optimized for touch. The virtual keyboard does not even show up to let you type - in fact, I realized that apps not from the Microsoft Store don't work well in the tablet mode. However, this wasn't at all a problem for me, as my Type Keyboard arrived soon and then I did not really use the touch mode very often after. Performance-wise, there was no difference for me in the S Mode or normal Windows. When attached to the Type Keyboard, this device is an absolute joy. The keyboard is surprisingly spacious for its size. The trackpad is great. All the third party apps work just as well as they would on any computer. I sometimes have 20 tabs opened in each Edge and Chrome, but haven't noticed any lag.
Bottomline: The tech reviewers on Youtube really think about photo/video editing and gaming when they review such devices, forgetting that most people just use gadgets for ordinary Microsoft Office or multimedia browsing. This device is great, if that is one's need. If i ever need more real estate or processing power, my i7 MacBook Pro is what I would use. Yet, the other 90% of the time, I will be using my Surface Go.

Until now, every true Windows 10 tablet I've owned has been lacking in something - speed, battery life, screen resolution, price, etc. Microsoft has done a great job in picking and assembling the best collection of specs in an affordable, portable package. This Surface Go meets my needs, and I'm ready to compromise. I wanted portability with long battery life, and a true Windows 10 O/S (I've owned a Surface RT) base. No games, no video editing needed. Most of my document storage needs are handled by OneDrive. So, the 64GB is enough. I've owned more powerful portables, but this compact unit goes where I go, and does what I need.

Check the web for full reviews. What you need to know...great form size factor, yes...buy the ms keyboard for it...No, other ms keyboards will not connect to it. It comes with Win10 S mode enabled, can change to plain Win10 mode if wanted. Think of S mode as having a Mom watch over the kids so they don’t install things on the device that Windows feels might not work well, are not user friendly else may be software that is not safe. Windows store apps offered are much less then apple store though for it’s size and purpose one can get by in Win10 S mode. You are not doing CAD design on this thing. Chip is fast enough, 64 build in memory and memory type is fine and fast enough with enough space left on it from the factory. Install a memory card if you wish, super easy to do and you can move any new apps installed to it instead of internal memory. Honestly, I don’t know that I notice any speed difference if app is ran from internal memory or card. Might be a tad slow during any required initial updates from the mothership MS though once you get past that part she is a smooth and too me fast enough tablet. Probably the model with the SSD internal memory is a drop quicker to download updates or open/close apps else save files though maybe we are talking a few seonds here or there. Unless you need the extra size that a 128gb ssd storage offers I would say stick with the 64gb model. After all both use the same system chip. Screen is very sharp and nice. It is about a perfect size, you can remove the ms keyboard and almost use it as an ipad. Better actually, yet still have a full on Win10 device, with touch screen, and a dang very good ms keyboard to boot. If you can find one on sale I vote GO buy it.

The Surface Go is a great option if your looking to replace a laptop and want something super portable. I really like the size of this vs. a Surface Pro yet it's still plenty powerful. I would just go with this lesser expensive model given the availability of cloud storage these days, I store almost nothing on the actual device. It's high quality and doesn't feel cheap like many other 2in1 devices.

I haven't had any issues since I read before I use a product so that I know how to use it. 4 GB is plenty of ram for the average user, in fact Windows 10 automatically keeps free ram available and makes adjustments as needes to keep the device running smooth. I have had no issues at all since my applications are installed on my 128GB high speed SD card I installed that cost $29.00 on sale. I also have it set to automatically clean the eMMC drive once a week and I clean it myself after updates, I have 34GB free on my main drive out of 58 (64). I write on the screen all the time with the Surface pen without issues after calibration and the OS recognizing my handwriting. Chrome runs great after going into settings to make better adjustments. I also use the task manager to prevent unnecessary startups and made adjustments to create a very useful and convenient alternative to carrying my iPad and Surface Pro 4. You can read online how to make adjustments and keep things clean to get this little computer to work great. 64 GB is plenty and 4 GB of ram is plenty as well, 1.8 GB is usually fre on mine even when using Stagelight Music and Chrome.
Learn to read and follow directions, it's a great device for those who do.

I love this little tablet! It's light and incredibly useful taking notes at meetings, which is the primary use I make of it. The separately sold keyboard is a breeze to attach (and detach) and typing on it is surprisingly easy and swift. Microsoft offers a good amount of free storage on its cloud service, OneDrive, which is where I store docs and then share them when needed. I purchased the pen, too, but haven't really found anything to do with it. Maybe someday? :)

I had a larger Surface Pro and still love and use it. However, it is larger and if I wanted to take it on flights, it was too large for small seat trays. With the Go 10, it is small, lighter but as powerful. I use Adobe and Lightroom on it and did buy the keyboard and mouse. Nothing bad to say yet, nor do I expect to say anything bad since the Pro 3 exceeded expectations

Full Microsoft Office and Best Tablet Keyboard

I'm glad I didn't just buy this online through Amazon, the specialist in the computer section of the store was a Microsoft rep/specialist that was exceptional; that made a difference for me. I could ask and have answered all of the questions that I could think of, not to mention actually try out the products.
The Surface Go itself is awesome. I wanted a tablet because I wanted something small and very portable that I could type up a paper or make a presentation with using real Microsoft Office programs rather than the limited version of Office found on my Samsung Galaxy smartphone.
The keyboard is also better than iPad, Galaxy or Pixel tabs because of the mouse and general ergonomics. I found a touchscreen(tablet) with a keyboard awkward without a mouse. And again, those tablets don't have the full Microsoft Office programs that I wanted for work and school.
Surface Go looks like a tablet (and can function that way if you want it to) but it is a full PC. The 4gb ram and 128gb storage is not a problem either. Solid state drive means that it runs faster than 4gb ram sounds. Microsoft One Drive and a memory card slot make my saving money on the memory, ie- not getting the Surface Pro, a big win!!

I got this for work as an industrial controls electrician. The size works great compared to the 7” tablet and 15” laptops I had been using previously. The applications I use load extremely fast compared to the laptop. Battery life is adequate for my application. The keyboard is tight, but for PLC programming software it’s very capable. I was using a chicklet keyboard with the 7” tablet so this is light years ahead.

This Surface is perfect for my needs. It allows me to take notes with a pen or keyboard. I can run all my Office apps with no problems. I can get to my emails and even play some games. While it won't do heavy gaming or photo editing, it does what I need in meetings and while on the road. This gem is small and light and easy to carry.

I am fairly new with the Microsoft Surface Go but I am absolutely loving it! I originally had a Ipad but noticed I couldn't do a lot of things on it except for play games and go on the web. However, with the Surface you can play your favorite games, go on the web, and even do your homework. As a home school student I do most of my classes on the internet and instead of being stuck in one room all the time, due to when I had the Ipad I couldn't do my work on there, now I can go anywhere I want and still have my classes with me.
There is some draw backs but nothing to remove a star, for example, if you have the Surface on S mode you can't download any game that is not on the Microsoft store unless you shut off S mode. I wouldn't recommend doing that since once you turn it off you can't get it back on, plus it keeps viruses and malfunctions off the Surface.
Overall I highly recommend the Surface to any student or business person looking to take their work on the go!

First thing I did was take the free upgrade from Windows 10 on S mode to Windows 10 Home. S mode wouldn't allow the install of too many of my windows software.
NEXT: so long as you understand the limitations of tablets such as this it's not a bad little device. Relatively quick considering the processor & RAM and for email and quick surfing online it's pretty nimble. Due to the small SSD after Windows and things like Office & anti virus are installed there isn't that much space left for storage space. I save files to the cloud or USB drive. Keyboard cover attaches and detaches in a snap and is backlit, helpful for working in dim lit situations.
The negative? Overpriced compared to its competitors and paying extra for the keyboard cover and a stylus is a bit of a bug bear for many. Is it worth the price tag ? That's a subjective assessment for the individual to make. Personally I love it even after paying for the keyboard and stylus.
It just has a "professional" feel to it that many of its competitors lack. Most of its competitors include the keyboard though; that would have to be your call.

I initially purchased a 2018 iPad with the Apple Pencil. The purpose of the device is to use to manage email, light PowerPoint, Excel and Word while on the go instead of dragging my laptop. When necessary I can jump into my laptop for more strenuous work needs. The iPad failed horrifically at this, from the wrong screen resolution to run Splash top to not yet being able to use a mouse. I switched it out for the Surface Go and I have loved every second of it. I was hesitant on the 4GB model as it seems everyone recommends the 8GB version. All I can say is they must be using the device for things it was not designed for. I run Outlook, couple of Excel documents, Sykpe, PowerPoint and a few browser tabs open and there is NO lag. I have even run all of this while using dual 20" screens off the USB C port. If your needs match mine then 4gb is all you need and you can put the saved money towards the pen which is great for marking up excel, PDFs and other documents.

Let me start this mini review off by saying don't trust the "Youtuber's" opinions regarding this device. I heard many negative things regarding the 4 gigs model but I must say this device has been nothing but a pleasure to use. I have the Surface Laptop and the Surface Pro 5. So this little device had it's work cut out to impress me and I'm proud to say it did. I still have the device in s mode because I'm one of those weird people who don't need Chrome to exist. Needless to say this device is my "GO" to traveling companion. It's light and sturdy and a pleasure to use. I wanted to buy it so that I could use it take notes at work and church. I love using one note to write notes of course! LOL I haven't had any problem opening apps, surfing the web and creating documents. If you want a side device that's portable and capable then pick up this device today. Its a perfect buy for students, children and grandparents. (anyone)

Con: I bought the lower priced 4gb ram 64GB surface go because of the price .. I don’t regret it but some would notice the slightly slower response. I doesn’t bother me ..if you use iTunes each time you open iTunes you have to go to settings in iTunes and set the Library storage location to the sd card if you install one.. that is a issue with iTunes not the surface go. Also don’t get why Microsoft uses a proprietary charge power connection.
Pros: I bought this to view content purchased on iTunes. I wanted the smaller form factor for portability. The screen is what impresses me. Bought a 256 micro sd card for storage. The keyboard is responsive and protects the screen when closed..excellent device for on the go. Build quality is excellent.
