A good tablet/laptop (for everyday tasks)

It might be my imagination, but my Surface Pro 1 with less ram (4GB) from 2013 outperforms the GO (with 8GB). The CPU for pro 1 is an i5-3317U while the GO is a Pentium 4415Y. However, I consider the performance is acceptable for my everyday tasks. I think this is a great Tablet PC because it is very portable (small and light), has very low power consumption, and has a very crisp screen (probably one of the best I've seen). Now on to the negative: It's a tad bit expensive. I wish it was $50 less and the accessories to be about 10-20% cheaper than current prices. Wish feature: a dock like Surface Pro 1. I am not a big fan of dongles.

I carry around a smaller bag with a pouch for a 10" tablet. I previously lugged around an android tablet that I had to remove the case for to get it to fit in the slot, but the Surface Go is the perfect size to slide in with the keyboard cover attached. I immediately took off Windows S mode, installed some tools to allow me to use it as a secondary screen, and have it be my web browser while I get work done on my main computer. It's also nice on my commute to read books or comics. And finally, I design and make iron-on patches, so I installed the digitizing software that I use, and it works perfectly.

Was hesitant to buy early on because of the price of the 8 GB - 128 GB model and the limited processing power. Most of the concern was related to the CPU inside. Had tried the 4 GB model in the store and it seemed to bog down with simple tasks. The 64 GB model had an eMMC hard disk and the 128 GB had the SSD. The SSD is faster. Having more RAM is a plus too. My principle use for this small device is for note taking. I hand write and type notes for various courses using OneNote. Have used an iPAD Pro to do note taking in the past. It was OK and comparable to the Go as far as features. Apple has disappointed me with their direction. So, moving away from their products. Was able to pick up the 8 GB - 128 GB Go as an open box - excellent for a really fair price and jumped. Got rid of the S feature almost immediately because I use Chrome. It wasn't available in store. The only time it is slow is when there are Windows updates going on in the background. Otherwise, for writing notes and typing word files, it has never been slow. The camera is adequate. The accessory keyboard is adequate. A little small but easy enough to get used to. Pen works fine. There are bugs that crop up now and again but restarting the device fixes them. Have been using it for a month moderately. No hardware or OS issues thus far. Works like my other Windows devices. I am very satisfied with my purchase but would say the retail price of $499 is too high. There have been several deals with it down to $399 for the holidays. That seems like a fair price for an 8 GB / 128 GB device. I did my research. Not much out there for that price with its capabilities. I say GO for it. ;-)

I have had two surface pros in the recent past which I loved but since these were secondary units I would travel with in addition to my company laptop I decided to try a minimalist approach and bought the Surface GO with the surface arc mouse and keyboard. I was hesitant that the Pentium processor would be too light for my needs, but I was pleasantly surprised by the performance. Office application run very well and only become sluggish when my spreadsheets become large and complex, but even then the lag is not unpleasant. For portability, this is about as good as it gets for such a small footprint. I disabled the "S" store constraint and use it as a normal laptop, doing this was very simple. Now I can run apps that are not supplied in the Microsoft store. I was pleasantly surprised that this unit ran casual steam games at an acceptable performance level. Mostly Tower Defense types and such, but still the graphics looked great on the small screen and I saw little to no lag in performance. It is amazing what the newer processors and drives are capable of even at the low end of pricing. This is an excellent second unit to take along as it is small enough to be comfortably used in almost any setting. Speakers are so-so but one would normally use earbuds and such anyway and then the sound is very good. I am interested to see the next generation of this. I think the demand for smaller units like this is growing, especially as the performance at this end of the spectrum has improved immensely. The GO makes an excellent partner to ones larger more powerful device and is small and light enough to throw in the bag and take along on almost any trip or occasion.

It’s nice, compact and does everything I need as a college student. It runs all of the office applications as well as expected. I wouldn’t try to game on it. The cost was a bit high compared to just building a pc with similar components which is why it lost a star. So there’s a premium for being compact. The battery is a big plus. I get more than 5 hours of use if I’m just doing minor web surfing or editing documents. Overall I would say It’s worth getting if your needs are similar.

great lil device. it isn't fluke free, it ocassionly has lil hiccups tho... sometimes when u try to restart or shut it down it just loops the lil processing dots in the center of the screen to show that it's "loading" or "in progress" but u can wait a very long time n morning will happen... so... will have to force the reset by holding the power button for like 5 to 10 seconds, that'll shut it down. then just turn it back on.... that usually takes care of it. battery life is OK. wish it was greater, like those ultrabooks or something, but it's good if u aren't doing heavy stuff on it like videos or whatever. but aside from that it's great that it's so portable n light. I do like the magnetic sides n it works great for the surface pen. I have a skin on the back n tempered glass screen protector since I bought it... n the thing is extremely accurate, is awesome. even these lil speakers r good for this lil thing. if u want more just connect ur Bluetooth speaker if u want, that's what I do. only thing I do want is a bit more a secure handle when I carry it around, I'm not clumsy but accidents can happen... n I know it's not easy or cheap to repair... so ya. so if u aren't keeping this on a desk all the time, n are going to carry this in ur hands or lap regularly, u may want to consider a case.

I’ve had the Surface Pros and have been exceedingly happy until my Pro 4 battery tanked. Thought I’d try this without the Microsoft-Apple pricing model. Added a 1TB as card and performs well after taking it out of S mode. Granted it’s supposed to be a direct competitor to the iPad Pro, but the Go is a welcome addition to the Surface family.

This is the fourth Surface I've purchased and it didn't disappoint. I purchased the first Surface Pro complete with the metallic body and it worked very well. My niece is currently using it for school work. I liked it so much I purchased two for my twin boys as they left for college. They both returned their desktops to home after one semester now both graduated this past May completing their four year degrees using MS Surface Pros. The new Go is exactly what I was waiting as I continue my quest for a paperless office. It's not an iPad, I have two of those. It is the smallest, practical Windows powered machines and I take it everywhere leaving my company issued Lenovo on the desk in my home office. I love it. I quickly moved to run it with full Windows 10 and Office 365

I bought this system to replace an ancient netbook. The critical requirements were that it had to run real Windows and real Office. As it happens, I am now running Windows 10 Home and Office 365 Home. The 1.6 GHz 2C/4T Pentium processor and 8GB RAM and HD 615 graphics is totally up to the task. However, this system is not really suitable for compute-intensive and/or graphics-intensive workloads. It works well with streaming activities and will support apps not found in the MS store. However, the 128GB SSD disk is barely adequate and I have knocked the rating down one star for this. However, one can supplement the storage with a microSDXC card. I am currently using a 64GB card which is inadequate for my purposes, so I am planning to replace it with a 256GB card in the near future. If MS offers a future version with a 256GB SSD disk or larger, this would be a 5-star system. Note that Office 365 users have access to 1GB of cloud storage which can be shared among multiple systems for people with stronger networking needs. All-in-all, I am very pleased with this purchase.

The MS Surface Go surprised me in that it's faster and lighter than I expected. The size and weight are great for portability, it's very responsive, and I like having a built-in micro sd slot. My only recommendation for MS is to give customers more RAM and internal storage in the same form factor.

It was time for me to replace my old iPad Air and I started looking at Surface devices. I wasn't too sure about the Pentium Gold processor in the Surface Go but I resisted going with the Surface Pro since this was intended to be a iPad replacement not a laptop replacement. I went with the 8Gb RAM 128Gb drive. This little device has out performed my expectations and I have not regretted my decision at all. I'm running Affinity Photo and Autodesk Sketchbook with no issues. Affinity does have some lag when using larger paint brushes but I don't use Affinity for drawing just for editing photos. When doing edits it performs good. Some lag when applying filters but nothing that really bothers me. Overall this is a snappy little device. I did have to take it out of S mode so I could download Affinity Photo and install from the web site to utilize my current license. When it's time to replace my laptop I will be looing at the Surfacebook or maybe the new Surface X.

I purchased the Surface Go strictly for drawing purposes. I looked into many products before choosing this one. To make a long story short, it is way more powerful than I anticipated. The 8gb version allows me to use Photoshop, Zbrush, Maya, Firefox with many web pages open, YouTube playing music in the background, all at the same time. No lag! It's very smooth and built very nice. I absolutely love it, and I feel great about not spending 2 or 3 thousand on the Surface Pro. The only complaint I have would be with the pen tip. I dropped the pen once and cracked the tip. I feel it should be strong enough to take a few hits, but I ordered 3 extra tips for $20.00 so it's not that big of a deal. Overall, this product has exceeded my expectations on all levels.

I wanted to start this review by saying that I have owned many desktop and laptop PCs over the years,And while this is by no means the most powerful PC I have owned the amount of power it does have coupled with its great portability has made it one of the most essential computers I have ever owned. The ability to slide this computer into my backpack or whatever bag I have on hand and get some office work done on the go is a huge deal.I must say that if you get this surface I highly recommend also getting the Microsoft keyboard that goes along with it and the mouse. Also I would recommend switching This computer out of mobile mode as soon as you can. While mobile mode is nice at saving power, switching the computer to full windows 10 mode Opens up so many more possibilities. Could not recommend more.

This is an awesome system. I get everything I need from the GO whether im using it as a laptop or as a tablet. It performs very well with office 365 and I can even run 4 different webpages at once with snap and it not be slowed down one bit. It is slick, lightweight, powerful for its size, and the battery life holds up pretty well. I wouldn't take it on a weekend trip without a charger but doing day to day things and charging it over night works well for me. I haven't tried playing any games on this nor will I try. I think college, general webbrowing, work, and office stuff is all that should be used to get 100% efficiency out of the GO. Anything gaming and beyond you might want to look at something else.
