I’ve had Dell exclusively for years and was hesitant to go to a surface but haven’t been disappointed. The speed and ease of use have been great. The lightweight design and touch screen add things I never had with my previous laptops. When you add the pen and use the surface for art it becomes an easy sell.

Overall this is one great laptop, and an excellent alternative to the MacBook Air or perfect computer for a previous Mac user. My rating is 4.5/5. My Model - Surface Laptop 2, 8GB Ram, 256GB Storage, Core i5 (8th Generation), Matte Black. My background is that I'm a previous Mac user. My last laptop was a 2013 MacBook Air and while I would have loved a new MacBook Air (2018), the keyboard reliability issues were a deal breaker for me, and luckily I'm skilled in both Windows and Mac. Build Quality/Design - Excellent build quality, close to Apple's Macs, although the Macs do feel the slightest bit sturdier, but compared to an HP, Lenovo, Dell or any other windows laptop, this is at the top of the list. An option for metal instead of alcantara would've been nice, but take good care and be a little more careful (and don't get the silver model) and the alcantara should wear well. The look is really nice too, they definitely took inspiration from the MacBooks but instead added a more straight edged design theme overall, and the whole product looks and feels high quality. I really like the inclusion of multiple different colors. I chose the Matte Black due to it being on sale while others weren't, but the Burgundy also looks great, and I love how bright and vivid the Cobalt Blue is. While the Silver presents a more MacBook-like look, I would not go for that one, as the alcantara wears better over time in darker colors. The laptop has a good heft to it without feeling heavy, and is easily portable while offering great lap-ability (something the traditional Surface computers (which are really just tablets) can't really do). Screen - An excellent screen, at 13.5 inches the size is perfect for most, and colors look great, while the 3:2 aspect ratio is great for viewing documents and web-pages as there's more vertical space available. The screen can also be used as a touchscreen (if you're into that) but overall very good and comparable to most current laptops. Bezels aren't the smallest or the thickest, but overall good and a nice in-between. Ports/Charging - Here's the mixed bag for the laptop that most users/perspective buyers find fault with. One USB-A, a Mini-Display Port (Do people still use these anymore?) and a a headphone jack, that's it. While I don't use any USB-C devices or need a port for them, I can see how many would be upset by this as USB-C offers great versatility and power. The USB-A port is a nice convenience, especially when sharing documents with other computers/users, but the mini-display port should have definitely been a USB-C port instead to be more useful. I can't remember the last time I used a mini-display port to be honest and doubt many know what it really is. Charging is very similar to Apple's MagSafe 1 in which its magnetic. The charger does seem a little flimsy but the design is similar to Apple in which it will disconnect if stepped on adding a feeling of security. I do wish it were on the left side of the computer though, but that's just a personal preference. Keyboard/Trackpad - The keyboard is the one thing previous or current Mac owners will fall in love with. Unlike current Apple keyboards, the keys feel great and are full of excellent travel and feel, and good back-lighting. The keystroke is predictable and overall its super easy to type on this computer unlike the new Macs for some users. The trackpad is a typical Windows trackpad, in that its overall precise and the size is average, but Apple's current trackpads are still the benchmark in that they can be clicked anywhere and at any firmness of clicking while offering different levels of feedback. Gestures and scrolling do feel a little more awkward and less smooth than on a Mac, but that is mainly due to Windows and not the computer itself. The inclusion of an FN on/off key is genius as I tend to prefer to use the FN keys for buttons like volume, playback and brightness, etc. but when needing them for actual FN functions (like f1, f2, etc.) its really convenient. Software - Windows 10 is probably getting close to Windows 7 levels of perfection, at least in my opinion. When I got my MacBook Air, I remember that the disaster of Windows 8 had just been released, and that was one defining factor of why I went for the Mac. Thankfully the start screen is not an entire page but just a menu again, and navigating the file system has been easy for me. I haven't found much fault with Windows 10 other than the annoying automatic updates. Mac users likely will need more time to adjust to a new OS, but overall it isn't too difficult to use or adjust to. Price - Like a MacBook the price of the Surface Laptop is high. Truthfully I would not recommend ever paying the full $1299 my model costs, but instead wait until a sale comes around and pick up the device much cheaper, like I did, paying $999, instead of the full retail price of $1299. Those deals while not too frequent, make the pricing easier to swallow, and make you feel better about yourself and your wallet. Overall this laptop is truly great, with its superb build quality and design, amazingly predictable and easy keyboard and other little touches, not only making it a great choice for many Window's users, but also any Mac users wanting/needing to switch and find something a little reminiscent of their MacBook.

I'm a Student currently attending college and went into Best Buy looking for a little smaller laptop that I could use for school. I was drawn to this one over all of the other ones for many reasons. First, one of my bigest complaints now-days with computers is that there isn't as much screen as I would like. You'd think that with the technology that is coming out, computer manufacturers would be able to use up all of the space given to make the screen as large as possible. Hence, on this laptop, Microsoft did their best to make the screen as big as possible which I love. I was originally looking to buy an HP Envy but there was a lot of unused space around the edge of the screen which I didn't like. I also loved the feeling of the fabric-like keyboard and the way the keys felt as well as how thin the computer is. The Windows 10 platform is great in my opion and the computer runs very fast. All around, the computer is asthetically pleasing as well as easy to use. Great laptop for the money!!!

I had a surface tablet and the lap top is even better. The keyboard makes up for my poor typing ability. Compared to my other laptop the surface is lighter and thinner. Battery life is good. What else can I say it’s a great laptop and the service I try at Best Buy is the greatest.

I needed a laptop for work and home to do light programming, research, and the occassional movie. This is a nice laptop for basically anybody unless you need to render lots of videos or want to game, in which case you need an i7 or a gpu. This is a medium-level Macbook equivalent, except it's only $999. I find Windows 10 to be relatively intuitive. I understand some people can't stand it. For those people: stop reading this and just get another Macbook like you want to lol. Features I like: - It boots up in 5 seconds. - Face recogition unlocks it for you, no need to type a password. - Great, light, silent keyboard with medium-sized keys. I'm 6'4" with big hands and I can type just fine. - The touchscreen works great and is especially useful for clicking buttons, scrolling or filling out forms. - Battery life is fantastic for what I need. I can take it to work and be on it all day. The most I've seen it dip to after 12 hrs is 30%.

After using this product for a few of weeks, it has proven to be reliable and fast. It feels light yet really high quality when you hold it. The trackpad is great and the touch screen is convenient to use at times. The computer boots up quickly with the SSD and it runs smoothly. Once in a while, there will be a hic-up but nothing major to cause problems. I use this for school and so far it is great at multitasking internet tabs, Gmail, outlook, and word docs. The only thing I have noticed is that when I am typing the keyboard bends in when you type on it nothing too alarming (doesn't affect typing), but I didn't expect it for a high-quality laptop like this. Other than that this is a great laptop and would recommend it especially to students

Surface Laptop 2 is a great product as long as the exclusion of USB C doesn't bother you. The keyboard is great and I'm actually typing this review right now on the device. The battery life is really good and for my use case it can last a day and some without having to be on the a charger ( I have light use case for this, web browsing and some casual typing while in bed, etc..). The display is really nice and I love 3:2 aspect ratio and this is one of the few devices that offer this. The Alcatara fabric on the keyboard feels nice overall but you will have to worry about staining in the long run so definitely keep it clean, I have the black version and I can see certain spot where oil from my skin has left a slight impression on the fabric but no big deal. I have the i5, 8gb, 256 gb storage model for $999 during the sale. That's a fair price for that model as I do think $1299.99 for these specs is a bit too high, especially with devices like a Matebook X from Huawei out there. If you are a Surface product person though and really like the devices then this one is still a good buy, I'd definitely recommend waiting for a sale though and if you have a first gen Surface Laptop, skip this gen and wait for a gen 3 that will hopefully have USB C and some more major improvements as this is more of an incremental refresh over gen 1.

Well is been a while and finally the best laptop I've ever owned, this unit is fast, light and a great battery life. I feel great all around and the performance is top notch...I wish it had an expansion slot and maybe another usb-C and maybe an hdmi port.

I received this laptop as a graduation gift and immediately loved the thin and smooth design. It starts up quickly and has a great battery life. Perfect for college students or anyone wanting a non bulky laptop for on the go use. Highly recommend.

My wife and I bought 2 of these computers. Computer looks solidly built, easy to use, speed is great. Overall a great product... Except... Alcantara. We bought 2 grays one. It is incredible how easily they stain and cleaning is very difficult. You have a great computer with stained and dirty look. We ended up going back to Best Buy after a couple of months to complain about the Alcantara material, the Microsoft guy was helpful and could not clean it, he suggested we go to the Microsoft store. They were jerks! After having them for over a year, they work great, to be honest. We ended up buying a cover in Amazon to cover the stains, which was a cheap and easy solution. Alcantara is a lousy product to have on a key board, maybe on a car it is fine. Conclusion... Good computer, lousy cover material, lousy customer service at Microsoft. I would not buy another laptop from them.

I needed a laptop for emails and work and this has been great so far. The keyboard is really special and I love how stable it is, doesn't bounce back. The resolution is crystal clear. I forget sometimes that it's a touch-screen too. Works for what I'm looking for at the moment. Lastly, weighs like nothing and the design of the entire laptop is just so sleek.

This is a very good hardware. Basically all the good things in a laptop, light weight , good battery life, touch screen which comes in handy and it has an overall balance of speed, weight and durability. Definitely not for gaming.

Bought this computer for college. Very fast and snappy. It’s very light and can be taken anywhere. Keyboard feels amazing when coding. Highly recommended for any college student or programmer

I am happy with this laptop. It is lightweight, has a good battery life, a touchscreen, beautiful video, and I like the choice of exterior colors, I think the price was reasonable, Only negative is that it needs another USB port,

Liked the weight, size and the feel of the laptop. The touch is very responsive. The quality of the keypad is really good. Did not have any system issues like hanging and generally boots up really fast.

I got the I5, 8GB , 256 model in black. This laptop is light and fast. It also has Windows Hello facial recognition which, so far, has been flawless. The only downside is that it is a little pricy.

I love this laptop. It's easy to transport making it possible to work just about anywhere. It has great battery life. Screen clarity and size are perfect. Keyboard feels great to the touch.

This laptop is one of the best in it's price bracket. The display is fantastic, windows hello is easy and simple to use, the keyboard is great, and the laptop is thin and light with a great build quality. I would highly recommend this laptop. It isn't going to run AAA game titles, but that isn't what you are buying it for. It will run casual games, and business programs are where it shines. The touch screen is fast and responsive, If you are looking for a thin and light laptop that will be powerful enough to get the job done, with a screen that is great for leisure actives, and enough work power for what you plan to throw at it. This is the laptop for you.
