An Entrepreneurial Author and Publisher's Dream

Cannot believe how strangely CONNECTED I am feeling personally to this little machine! Weird, maybe, but it just feels as comfortable and as fun to be around as a friend.
PROS |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
What I was looking for to meet my own particular needs as an author and publisher was:
1) speed, above all
2) very light for maximum portability
3) long-time battery strength
4) very quiet machine
4) aux output
5) save money with less hard drive space
This checked every box!
I needed something that didn't feel cumbersome to carry everywhere. Blissfully light! This laptop is also rendered extra portable because it has the longest battery life I have ever experienced with a laptop, meaning I can even dash out the door sans charger--just literally grab the machine, slip it in a sleeve and go.
I also needed max speed to support my writing and publishing apps like Scrivener and video editing and lots of uploading. This laptop handles them effortlessly and doesn't even seem to heat up, plus it is whisper quiet so it never distracts me from my train of thought while composing.
It comes with 256GB hard drive which is plenty of space to support all my software, and I use Dropbox to store 2TB of everything else so I can still access all the space I need without having to go for a heavier and more expensive model.
Aux input allows me to plug in wired headphones directly as needed and not have to bother with wireless earbuds or aux adapters (one less thing to worry about charging, one less cord to carry).
The pretty golden pink color was just a bonus, so elegant!
I also used https://www.laptopmag.com/articles/out-of-the-box-laptop-tips to help guide me through speedy setup like a pro so I didn't miss anything.
CONS||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Small screen and no number keypad takes some getting used to but that is a compromise we have to make if portability and low weight is more of a priority. I just use spreadsheets a lot for my biz and this is a major drawback not having that keypad, but I guess I can do my financials on my desktop.
Lots of bloatware installed, but like I said the guide on the website I mentioned above helped me knock some of that out.
Very limited ports. I had to spend $70 to buy one additional port hub with all the extra slots and inputs I might need. Again, price of low weight, max portability.
SUMMARY|||||||||||||||
Super fast. Blissfully light. Longest battery life (14-16 hours). Unnoticeable heating up. Quiet. Setup for my Razor headphones to plug and play. Lots of room for software but not too much to keep cost down. Gorgeous color and looks way more expensive than it is. Fun to use.
Small screen. No number keypad for business people who are spreadsheet lovers like me. Lots of bloatware to uninstall and some you seem stuck with forever. Very few ports so will need to buy external hub. Too easy to fall in love with anyway.

Perfect Windows Experience

When looking for thin & lite laptop that had high end productivity features, I researched many different models with me settling on the M$ Surface Laptop 4 due to it being more than capable on fulfilling my needs for a portable workstation. This AMD model of the Surface Laptop 4 13.5 is a good alternative to the Intel Ultrabook’s with some strong key advantages: More affordable, better battery life on a Windows device (Yes, I know the MacBook Air is still the king on battery life), and the multi-core CPU performance is superior to the most expensive Intel option, even on the entry-level model.
So why this one over the others? I work at home doing multiple video calls (Zoom, Teams & Skype) while connected to a Voyager 4310 Bluetooth headset. I also usually have two browsers open with over 20 in each & connected to a corporate VPN. With that also have multiple spreadsheets, documents & do light video/presentation work. Not only does this handle all of that at the same time the experience is trouble free thanks the seamless integration of Windows 11 & the hardware. Everything is just better than other laptops when it comes to Windows. No need to use a 3rd party app for software upgrades as just updating which works automatically BTW if put device in hibernation (just close the lid) instead of shutting down the power. Windows Hello logs you instantly & I have not encountered any bugs with everything just working very well. This is essentially a Windows Mac Book. The 3.2 display aspect ratio is a definite plus with more screen real estate to work with.
Negatives: The glossy screen on is very reflective in direct sunlight outside.
Ratings with 5 being the highest
Quality Control: 5 out of 5 No flex anywhere on laptop, built with good & quality materials
Display: 4 out of 5 Bright, sharp & vibrate display with color just slightly being off
Keyboard: 5 out of 5 One of the best typing experiences on a Windows Laptop
Trackpad 5 out of 5 Very accurate & precise so another homerun for the M$ design team
Speakers: 4 out of 5 Sound is decent but not
spectacular “sound comes through the keyboard”
Performance: Single Task: 4 out of 5 Decent enough for most
Multitasking 4 out of 5 Outstanding!
Battery Life 4 out of 5 Getting over 7 hours with display brightness set to 75%, keyboard backlight on low, Bluetooth headset connected & power settings on Better Performance on battery on heavy days. On lighter days get close to 9 hours but no were near the advertised 17 hours with my usage.

My first ever Surface. Loving it!

This is the first Surface product I have ever owned, and I must say, I am quite impressed!
The laptop itself is quite light, but feels quite premium at the same time. The trackpad is smooth and buttery, while also not making much noise when clicking. The keys have nice travel and are also quiet. The Surface has a nice screen, and although not as bright as other comparable laptops, it's not bad at all. The laptop has a long-lasting battery too. I can get a good 12-15 hours or so while multitasking.
This laptop can be pretty pricey for what features you get compared to other laptops on the market, but I feel you are paying extra for the premium build, durability, and portability.
One major downside of the Surface Laptop is the lack of ports. It only has one each of USB-A and USB-C. Unfortunately, it also doesn't have Thunderbolt 4. The lack of ports means you likely would need to invest in an external hub, especially if you have multiple peripherals you want to connect.
Pros:
-portable and lightweight
-quite durable
-nice vertical 3:2 screen ratio
-the Sandstone color is really unique
-long battery life between charges
-fast charging with included power supply: 0% to 80% in an hour
Cons:
-lack of ports
-can get a bit warm when multitasking

Great laptop with aging design and specs

A great little laptop but a few things really holding it back.
It is a very well built laptop with a beautiful screen but it has huge bezels and has the same glossy super reflective screen for several years. Would like to see much smaller bezels and an anti-reflective coating. An Oled display option would also be nice.
The processor is good and bad. It was great a couple years ago but with 12th gen intel out and 6th gen Ryzen it is showing it's age. Speed feels fine but in a couple of years I am worried. Microsoft needs to deliver better internals for this price. Too much competition that is better.
The build quality and design are top notch. The design aesthetic that Microsoft uses is one of the cleanest and best looking designs out there but as I said before it needs modernization of a few areas.
The speakers are excellent and I love them.
The keyboard is excellent. Trackpad is one of the best.
The battery life is decent but this is another area improvement needs to be made.
Ports are just pitiful. At least you get a usb a but I would like to see hdmi or at least sd card support.
SSD sizes are really skimpy for the cost. Double the size across the line is needed.
A little more heavy duty mag charging port like a braided cable would be really nice but I like the overall design.
The pure Windows experience is one of the main draws to these devices and the optimization Microsoft puts into the OS for these machines. Even on older hardware with meager specs you never feel the device is slow.
Overall the all aluminum models are a thing of art and the screen is beautiful and the speakers are good. The 3/2 screen format is also excellent. They just need to keep up with up to date internals and refine the design and add a port or too and extend battery life and I would fully recommend this device.
As it is now there are too many nagging issues to fully say 5 stars. It is certainly above average and a great device but for me I like to be current on specs if I am going to shell out premium price.
There hopefully will be a redesign and after the release a while when they go on sale I might just pick a model like this again.

Screen arrived with a few dead pixels. Right out of the box, this laptop makes a slight scrape noise when it opens. Quality control could be better. I wish that the charging cable was more secure when plugged in- it falls out if it gets touched. I also wish that the keyboard backlight could be brighter. But none of this was extreme enough for a return. It would be nice if it had an SD card reader and more than one USB port.
It feels nice to type on the keyboard, the sandstone color is lovely, the 16gb ram is enough to handle my leisure and work, the touch screen is convenient, and the touchpad feels like soft matte glass and is really nice. Fabulous battery life. Laptop looks and feels sleek and professional.

Great college student laptop. My college-age daughter loves that the battery lasts all day and then some (for the times she forgets to plug it in). Soft touch Alcantara on the hand rests is awesome. Great color (Ice Blue). Touchscreen works great. Windows Hello with the camera works flawlessly. Lightweight. Display is crisp and bright.
Highly recommend.

Best Surface Laptop Yet, and Worth the Upgrade

I've owned multiple Surface computers, including two Pros, three Laptops, and the Surface Book. I wanted to love the Surface Pro because of its portability, but that easel configuration felt awkward and unstable, whether on a seatback tray or my thighs.
The Book is an impressive machine with its convertible design, but that's a feature I rarely use. It was bulkier than I wanted for travel, so I repurposed it as a competent desktop replacement.
If I had to choose just one Surface for maximum versatility, it would be the Laptop.
I've owned the first generation and Laptop 3. Laptop 4 is unquestionably the best yet. It feels fast and crisp. The AMD Ryzen 5 processor reacts swiftly to anything I throw at it--admittedly, nothing too taxing. I simultaneously run Edge, Outlook, OneNote, some simple Excel spreadsheets, and Photoshop Elements. No gaming. The computer never feels like it's straining to keep up. It's more responsive than the Intel i5 in my previous Laptop 3, and the battery life is far superior.
The Ice Blue color is a refreshing change from tired shades of gray, and my palms are happy to be back on plush Alcantara after regretting the migration to cold, bare metal on the preceding generation. My Surface Laptop 3 wasn't yet a year old, but this Laptop 4 was a splurge I don't regret.

I have an iphone and an ipad and I had an older Macbook laptop as well so I needed a new one. I am so happy that I bought this instead of another Macbook! It was not only less expensive, but Microsoft makes it very user friendly with the touch screen, Microsoft edge, and facial recognition. It also is very aesthetic and sharp looking with how thin it is. I am also in IT so downloading Linux on this was as simple as 1,2,3. All in all great computer! I am not a windows fan and have been using a Mac Book Pro for more than 10 years for a variety of reasons. My wife works in the finance side of things and wanted a laptop that can support expert level Excel functions. Naturally any Apple device is out of the question. So I compared the options available and narrowed down to Lenovo Thinkpad X series and the Microsoft Surface laptop. I didnt want the tablet which works as a laptop because its hard to work on a soft surface like a bed. Anyways, after using the surface for a week (borrowed from a friend)we were sold on it. Its fast, doesnt have any bloatware, looks good, built well. It was an easy call in the end.

I was looking for a Windows laptop with solid performance for everyday tasks. I was also looking for something without a bunch of bloatware (AKA the predownloaded apps a bunch of manufacturers include) because i just end up deleting those anyway. I figured the Surface laptop was a solid choice for a genuine Windows experience as envisioned by Microsoft themselves. And i really like the laptop, but even at the sale price I snagged this on, its a bit expensive for what it is. There’s a bit of body creaking, the keybaord is solid but I wish it had more travel, the trackpad is okay but somehow I inadvertantly right click while trying to click and vice versa, and the backlit keyboard could be brighter. Overall though, I’m happy the laptop is virtually silent, and the battery is seriously impressive for a Windows machine. Not quite M1 standards, but still great compared to laptops of Windows past.
