I love this laptop. It looks sleek and the fact that it’s touchscreen is a huge plus. The battery life is good for my needs and uses. I don’t always have to charge it. Good product.

It’s been a decent laptop so far but I has some minor buzzing and the screen is looser than my surface laptop 3 was. Beyond than, it’s been great so far for the 2/3 months I’ve had it:) I does great with all I need it to do for school. Also, for all the simmers, it runs sims 4 pretty good and it can run sims 2 decently but a little glitchy:)

I’ve only had my current laptop for four years, but the screen is cracked, the speakers don’t always work consistently, the components are fast becoming outdated, and it weighs a ton. I realize it was time that I replaced it with something smaller, lighter and state of the art. Enter Microsoft Surface Laptop 4 - 13.5” Touch-Screen – Intel Core i5 - 8GB Memory - 512GB Solid State Drive. As I am not an IT expert or self-pronounced tech geek, I’ll spare you from reading another review that lists all the tech and design specs, and instead offer you this link from Microsoft https://youtu.be/Z3N3u6NyWSY if you want more of those details. The review I offer will be from the perspective of an ordinary user. I often travel with my laptop and having a long battery life without needing a charging station is exactly what I was looking for. The solid state drive is critical to process information quickly as well as booting up and powering down without having to wait long. I always know it is time to replace a computer when I can get a cup of coffee in the time the laptop boots up. The Surface 4 laptop doesn’t run hot, even after extended use, including work by day and watching videos by night. That means no loud fan kicking on either. The Surface 4 has a touchscreen, but it does not fold back 360 degrees like a convertible nor does the keyboard detach. To my chagrin, the laptop did not come with a full-size active pen ($82 Microsoft Surface pen), storage for the pen or a protective sleeve like my HP Spectre x360. But since this isn’t a 2-in-1 laptop, perhaps I can’t complain. The 3:2 aspect ratio offers 18% more viewing pleasure than the typical 16x9 laptop screen. I see the difference when I am opening multiple files side-by-side on the screen. The Surface 4 has thicker bezels than my HP, but it is almost two times lighter, weighing in at a mere 2.8 pounds. Security is simple with facial recognition via Windows Hello, but I haven’t activated it yet. The quick password is sufficient at this time. I listen to Spotify and stream videos frequently and the OmniSonic stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos® provides great sound. I run virtual fitness classes and use the high-fidelity music mode in Zoom with original sound. I was using my 1-year-old work computer but switched up and used the Surface 4 for my last class. The person who does the sound check with me said the sound from the Surface 4 was of noticeably better quality. I am eager to try out the dual far-field studio mics for Teams calls. In the past, my voice has echoed off the walls in my office making it difficult for people to hear me clearly. I liked the size and feel of the full-size, backlit keyboard, palm rest and touchpad. I am glad to have the all-aluminum chassis versus the soft-touch fabric. As it is, the Sandstone keyboard is very light and a little challenging to distinguish the lettering easily in bright light. The 720p HD front-facing webcam wasn’t as sharp as I had expected, but I use a Logitech C930e 1080 HD for the virtual classes I teach on Zoom so that wasn’t an issue. The graphics are very clear and the Zoom video of me was so vivid, it looked like something from a television show on an HD channel. No surprise, the resolution on the 13.5” screen is 2256x1504, so very sharp! As a mouse user addict, I was petrified to get a laptop with so few ports. However, it was not as much of a major adjustment as I had expected it would be. My previous laptop only had a USB-C, a Thunderbolt 3, USB 3.0, an SD reader and an HDMI port. The Surface 4 has 1 full-size USB 3.2 Gen 2, 1 USB-C 3.2 Gen 2, a headset jack and Surface Connect. At first not having an HDMI port made me shy away from this laptop, but then I figured I could use a 4-Port USB Type-C Hub with the Surface Connect port to connect to the webcam and mixer and other USB 3.0 connections. Plus, I can connect wirelessly to most peripherals (monitor, mouse, etc.). Am I worrying needlessly about the magnetic charging piece breaking when trekking it with me everywhere? I wish I was able to choose a 4/5 out of 5 for the rating. Since I can't, let me express what an excellent laptop this is and override the rating here in the text. I encourage you to consider this laptop when looking to purchase a new one. I’ll miss my previous laptop, but I wholeheartedly embrace the Surface 4 laptop. I am looking forward to making some new memories together.

Very high quality build. Very fast. Microsoft hardware has been top notch for about 6 or 7 years now and the trend continues here. I threw a Windows 10 Enterprise key on it and 5 minutes later I was up and running. If you're wondering - 8gb is more than enough. I have 2 different browsers open with over 30 tabs open, while also playing a movie over VLC with zero issues. Huhlu, YouTubeTV and prime apps also stream fine. Office apps fly. I have used both the 15" and this 13.5" and I far prefer this version, especially since the bezels are so thin it almost feels like a 15". The screen is very high quality with great resolution. You can't go wrong with one of these. I have seen so-called "experts" call this a budget laptop. Don't make me laugh. Remember, these "experts" are sent free laptops loaded out with far more than most need so they lose perspective on reality. 90% of people don't need more than an i5 with 8gb ram.

Have had my Surface 4 for about a month now and like it a lot. It is fast, quiet, and has a great display. It was a replacement for a 5 year old HP Spectre that was starting to have problems. I purchased a longer power cord for the charger. My only complaints are that the keyboard backlighting turns off rather quickly (I have learned to just hit the shift key before I start typing in a dark room -- no big deal), and the charging cord pulls out easily when I am using the laptop on my lap and connected to AC power.

Not sure how much I like it for now. Its been a little different than my previous Surface Book which had many more features. I don't think the price of the laptop is justifiable, but we will see. The only reason I like it Microsoft is because they are sleek, fast, and easy do work or personal on. But, after only having my previous laptop for 2 years and paid close to 2k - there was no reason why my screen went black. I'm a bit afraid of keeping this one too I just don't care for Dell or HP there so bulky and hard to find one in comparison to this laptop. Be sure to keep your Onedrive linked to your desktop to save all of your data, the minute this computer goes its the only way to securely retrieve your information.

First let me say that I really like the Microsoft surface products! I had originally planned to buy a surface book to replace my 8+ year old surface book because I am starting a masters program and wanted something more up to date. However, the surface book was only available for business. After researching how I use my current product and my plans going forward, I realized that a surface laptop was much more suited to my needs (and significantly less expensive too). I am so happy with my purchase!

The Microsoft Surface Laptop 4 is an excellent choice for various tasks. We have a mixed technology home with products from all sorts of manufacturers and operating systems. This laptop has been an excellent addition to the collection. I decided on the Ice Blue The first stand out to me was the keyboard. I am so impressed with how comfortable it is with what they call Alcantara material. It is hard to describe, but it has a cloth like feel to it and is really comfortable to the touch. It is more comfortable than any other laptop keyboard I have used. The metal of the chassis does not dig into my wrists and when typing for a while and it doesn’t make me feel like taking frequent brakes. The machine is light at under three pounds and since it has a 13-inch screen, is very portable. Out of the box, I let the Surface charge for about an hour even though I wasn’t sure if it needed it or not. When I began setup and got into Windows it was at 100% so I assume it came with a significant charge to begin with. Since then, I have plugged it in once and that was after three or so days of varying usage from music to movies, miscellaneous Microsoft activities and general web surfing. All in all, I would say I was able to get about 15 hours in before it needed a charge and it was still at about 10%. The base model comes with an i5 intel chip that isn’t the fastest available, but plenty powerful for the typical user. Also, with 8GB of ram, this laptop will perform well. For those that need to work more on video, photography or any intense graphics, I would suggest going for the i7 with 16GB of ram from the start so that you aren’t having any regrets afterward. The 512 GB hard drive is sufficient but, because I travel, I may need to upgrade to a 1TB so that I can have more of my files with me when I am not on a network. The specifications do stipulate that this is not user swappable, so I’d to take it in to ensure I was within spec and warranty. I have several Bluetooth options for my sound and I don’t typically concern myself with how the speakers sound when using a laptop or tablet; however, the built-in speakers on this laptop are better than average with nice range, strong bass and good treble. Certainly, the sound from this are better than any of the phones or tablets I have used. There is an HD camera built in for video calling and recording. It is sufficient and comes in handy for my zoom calls, I really wasn’t expecting anything more. All in all, this is a fantastic laptop with excellent out of the box capabilities. I would buy it again and anticipate others in the family will be fighting to use this versus some of the other options we have.
