Just what I needed for school & photography. I bought this as an upgrade to my previous laptop. I needed c something that would run Photoshop & other photography software without crashing. I love the convertible nature of the device and how responsive the touch screen is. Overall, it's a great investment.

I've really enjoyed using this laptop. I decided to use it as my main work and gaming device to see if it would meet my needs. There are so many things to like, starting with the Surface app give you a good overview of what is unique about the device. Windows Hello is an amazing experience. The quick login, even in a darker room, is great and reliable. The keyboard is incredible, just the right amount of travel and clickyness. The touchpad is the best I've ever used on a Windows laptop. The click haptics feel great and can be adjusted or turned off if desired. The screen is clear and bright. The 2400 x 1600 resolution at 150% scaling gives plenty of room while keeping text crisp. The screen at 120 Hz keeps things smooth and is great for gaming. Combined with the form factor, pulling the screen forward for gaming is amazing. A subtle touch, but the screen has rounded corners that match the laptop lid. I like the selection of ports, especially that there is a USB type A port. The surface connector is really nice, but you can also charge over the USB type C ports. With a 100 watt charger connected to USB type C, I was able to charge rather quickly, despite Windows saying I was using a lower powered charger. A must have purchase with this is the surface pen, and I do wish it was included. The screen is also a touch screen, and I prefer to use touch with the pen. Additionally, drawing works so well. There is no noticable lag and the pen input feels very natural. I also like using the screen to mark up a presentation. I could open a PDF in Edge, pull the screen forward and easily underline, circle, and notate changes. The pen charges by attaching magnetically under the front lip of the laptop. It is a heavy device, but still portable. It is just about the maximum weight I would consider carrying daily in my backpack. The speakers are suprisingly good. Enjoyable to listen to podcasts and music and also great for voice clarity on calls. The video camera is clear and works well in average light conditions. There are Surface specific features for the webcam. You can set automatic framing to keep you in the view, eye contact can be turned on, and you can set the background blur. The microphones are great as well. Throughout my work day the laptop didn't ever get very hot, which was great. Gaming does generate heat, which is expected. The elevated design does help with heat dissapation. The design also helps the laptop look smaller than it actually is, a sort of pedestal or tiered design. Battery life has been good. During light work with office apps, browsing, and small development projects I could get through the day without charging. Gaming will rapidly decrease that, which you would expect. I do like that I could be working away from my desk for a full day without needing to charge up. You can also get more battery life by keeping the device in the Recommended power profile. While gaming, you can change this to Best Performance, but the battery will suffer. If you keep the laptop plugged in most of the time, I would set it to Better or Best Performance as battery wouldn't be a consideration. There is a question of value, but that will vary for individuals and needs. Overall, the premium design, cleaner Windows OS, and form factor make this a joy to use.

I like that it has a good fan, many screen options and lots of storage I do not like it's heavy weight, the screen dislodges too easily and it's a small screen so hard for old eyes to read. Mine is being very slow for a one week old laptop as well but that's probably not the computers fault.

Great product at a decent price. The capability of this surface bypasses my expectations. Is pretty light and fast. Only thing I don’t like it the lack of cases for this item.

    A Great Update…Except 1 Small Thing

Having used the original Surface Laptop Studio for well over a year I was very excited to check out this new update. The original Surface Laptop Studio is easily THE best PC laptop I’ve ever used. For some perspective, I primarily use a Mac but use PCs about 1/3rd of the time and I actually prefer to use this while traveling due to its versatility. It’s a great on-the-go content creation tool for writing, photo editing, as well as video editing. Here’s what I love about the Surface Laptop Studio (both the original as well as this second gen): - Versatility: That’s really what it’s all about. I use it as a laptop primarily but having the ability to use it as a tablet is the reason I use this on the road where I only have to bring one device that can serve double duty as a tablet. In fact triple duty with the stage mode which I find to be useful while on an airplane. - Touchscreen: A very predictable touchscreen where taps and swipes all work well and it has a great deal of precision. - Touchpad: The touchpad on the MacBook Pro is easily the best on the market. Having used numerous PCs over the years there’s nothing that comes close…except for this one. It’s predictable, all taps and touches are smooth, and it just works. - Surface Pen: Super useful in tablet mode where it can automatically transcribe my handwriting into text with OneNote and it does it with quite good accuracy, especially considering my handwriting resembles abstract art. Also being able to sketch out ideas or diagrams adds a lot more context to my notes. I just wish that it came with the Laptop Studio and wasn't an additional accessory. - Build quality: Incredibly solid all around from the hinges, the ports, keyboard, trackpad, etc… - Amazing display: the 120hz display is phenomenal. It gets quite bright, colors pop, there’s tons of contrast, and you can view it easily from off-angles. - Battery Life: I’m usually able to get around 8 hours or so of use as long as I am not doing continuous, heavy video editing tasks where that can drop it by about 10-15%. Here’s what I love about the updates with the second gen: - More Ports! There’s now an additional USB-A port as well as a micro-SD slot which provides more flexibility with accessories. - Faster: With a new processor I can tell that it’s notably faster than the previous generation (with similar memory). The previous generation was already a solid performer for me when it came to my video editing tasks where it can handle 4K footage well in Premiere Pro with very little lag while scrubbing the timeline and exports were also reasonable. With this new update the performance is even better. Not earth-shattering but certainly noticeable. Here’s what I’m not so in love with: - It’s slightly bigger and slightly heavier than the previous generation. That was one of the reasons I really liked the Surface Laptop Studio in the first place was that it had tons of versatility while being somewhat svelte for what it offered. This new version is a bit thicker where it feels more laptop-sized now. The weight probably won’t be super noticeable though unless you’re comparing it directly to the original. - The micro-SD card slot: I’m not sure where to start with this. While I appreciate the added slot which can be helpful for a content creator like myself, I find the choice of micro SD card slot vs a normal SD card slot to be BEYOND confusing. This makes it really only useable for content captured on action cameras and drones and leaves all of us with mirrorless cameras looking for yet another dongle. Who actually made this decision?! The only reason I can come up with is that they’ll include it with the 3rd gen Laptop Studio which would make it a reason to upgrade. There are so many great things going for this convertible laptop like the incredible touchscreen display, the fantastic touchpad, the versatility in different configurations, as well as the build quality which is top-notch. But it’s hard to ignore the lack of a full-size SD card slot which makes it much less usable for a creator on the go.

There is much to this Studio 2. The best is how fast it works. I lovr the 120hz display and the studio aspects of the camera. The only down side is that it gets hot while playing WOW. It does have some heft but I have had heavier laptops. I am keeping this awesome laptop!

This is my first Windows computer since 2008. Many issues for me including: Content automatically uploading to my OneDrive cloud account by default (and hard to find option to disable), as well as not easy to find a few games I downloaded. As for sheer performance, the device doesn’t seem all that responsive at times (even if seemingly simple task that does not even require network). Gets quite hot / very audible fan even when in a cool room while playing a lower graphic game just for a few minutes….Overall battery life nothing to brag about either. I just might return device and stick with iPad for my formal computer.
