The new Surface Pen is greatly improved over the one that came with the Surface Pro 3. Very responsive and the exchangeable tips are a nice touch for increased specific usuage.

Have been using this with a Surface 3 and the pen has much better tactile feel on the screen surface and the replaceable nibs are a nice touch depending on whether you're taking notes or drawing. Overall, I feel there is much better control with the new pen tips - the old pen felt like the hard nib was sliding on the glass. The eraser on top is nice but to be honest I liked the fact that on the old pen I could instantly erase a line or character by clicking on the button without really changing the pen direction. If you're hoping to get better character recognition out of this pen, the jury is out. Some days doing the NYT Crossword it takes several tries for the application to recognize the letter, but for apps like One Note it works well

I only recently own a surface pro 3 and the Pen 3 was okay, but this one is just the best upgrade. It feels better in my hand and the eraser end comes in handy.

The weight. The sensitivity. I dare say I enjoy this pen even more than my Wacom Cintiq pen. And the fact that it works with Surface Pro 3.... Love it!

I purchased this pen for my surface pro 3, and it feels great in the hand, I love turning the pen over and using the eraser, and it's very accurate.

We purchased my mother a new surface and when I used her pen I immediately went out and replaced my 1st generation pen. Love the feel on the screen and ability to change tips.

This is the Pen for the Surface 4 but works on Surface 3. It reacts to the surface so much smoother. Love the interchangeable tips also

The best pen for the Surface

Microsoft has crafted the best pen for their product. The new Surface Pen features more points of pressure, has a built-in magnet so it clips onto the side of Surface devices (the Pro 4, Book, and Studio), the built-in button is more discrete yet still functional, and the back of the Pen functions as an eraser while having a programmable button that lets you open OneNote, take a screen shot and open OneNote, or wake Cortana up. The new Pen is above and beyond the pen included with the Surface Pro 3. It's more comfortable to write with and has added functionality. Surface Pro 3 users can buy the new Pen though they won't get the added benefit of the increased number of pressure points, I'm also not sure if the magnet in the Pen will stick to the Pro 3. Overall, you can't go wrong with the Surface Pen. It works great on the Studio, Pro 4, and Book with (very) limited compatibility with the Pro 3 and Surface 3. I highly recommend it for anyone who wants to shake up the color of the Surface device or if they ended up buying a Core m3 Surface Pro 4 bundle that did not come with the Pen. It is a must-have for any Surface owner.

We've seen more accurate pen accuracy and far fewer disconnects than the prior Stylus on Surface Pro 3, but not sure if that's due to Windows 10 upgrade or Pen upgrade. Works equally well on the Surface Pro 4. Our use case doesn't really benefit from the 1024 levels of pressure sensitivity. There's really not much else to say about the Pen - If you have a Surface Pro 3 or 4, it's a no-brainer.

Great stylus/pen for the surface. Can be used for old and new surfaces. Like that it can be matched to keyboard color.

I love this pen. The additional tips are a great feature with the pen, though I believe that the tips should also be included with the purchase of the Surface itself. The way that it writes on the screen is very similar to that of a real pen or pencil and the habit of flipping it upside down to erase is good as well. I'm still getting used to all of the features that the Surface Pen provides and how it will benefit the use of my new Surface Pro 4. Overall great product!!

I'm an SP3 owner who was constantly frustrated by the old pen dying on me amidst note taking. Because I'm heavenly pen dependent, I decided to give the SP4 version a try. I have not been disappointed. From consistency in writing, a better feel, to the new erase feature (using the "eraser end"), this pen is a winner.

I bought the Surface pen 4 to work with my Surface Pro 3. I've actually found it very useful, especially in the reduction of fingerprints on my screen and its the easiest way to navigate around movies. It does take some getting used to, its really helpful interacting with the internet scroll bars, especially when disconnected from the keyboard. It responds quickly and ably with little if any lag. I have tried handwriting and its one of the most responsive stylus type products I've used, but to be honest, I rarely use if for handwriting notes. At least so far.

Needed to replace lost Pen 3's and had heard the Pen 4's were better so purchased these. The Pen 4 is more responsive than the 3. Seems to be more accurate at the point of touch. With the 3, if you were trying to click on something on your screen that was close to something else it sometimes selected the wrong item. Also the screen would not respond to the touch of the Pen 3 on occasion whereas with the Pen 4 the screen reacts every time. I think the new button placement minimizes accidental activation. We rely on Surface Pro 3 tablets for patient data entry and were experiencing frustration with the Pen 3's due to errors and slow or poor response. The Pen 4's have minimized those problems. Definitely worth the upgrade.

Pretty much the same as the surface pen that came with my SP4, but with additional tips for artists. The color is nice, but i don't think it's worth the extra $. That being said, if you need the tips and like the color, it works great, just like the standard pen.

I own an SP3 and was seriously considering an upgrade to an SP4, but couldn't justify the cost, since my SP3 was just over a year old. I'd heard the new type cover and pen were big improvements over the previous models and so I tried them in the Best Buy store to see for myself. The first time the pen tip touches the screen, you already feel the difference. There's more friction, but it actually results in a smoother writing experience, because it mimics the friction of pen and paper. The pen tips are interesting, but I've pretty much stuck with the stock tip. Erasing using the butt-end of the pen is also a fun experience, but it's actually less efficient than the previous method of simply clicking the erase button. On the one hand it's nice to stop and turn the pen around to erase -- it actually makes you slow down a bit, and consider your work. But sometimes when you're sketching fast and furious, being able to just click to draw and click to erase is better. This pen has a strong magnet that allows it to cling to some of the SP3's sides -- I find the strongest grip is along the bottom, when you don't have the type cover installed. Otherwise, I still use a pen loop -- don't want to leave it to the magnet to keep this expensive pen attached, because it really is easy to knock off. Overall, if you use your pen a lot, upgrading the pen (and type cover) is a nice way to up/sidegrade your SP3.
