    Not a stylus - it's better

I was skeptical when the salesperson showed me the pen for the Surface, saying it was the "most precise digital instrument yet." I'm not going to swear that he's right - but this is not "just" a stylus. I had to order it separately online. When the Surface 3 came out, the color pen (black) was not in stock, so I went to order online. While I was waiting for my purchase to arrive, I was using my finger, or a stylus, with my new Surface 3. Nifty, and worked fine. Then I got the pen... I didn't know I could use my Surface like a notepad quite that way. I didn't realize how versatile it could really be - and I'm STILL discovering interesting ways to use the pen. I've already used it to mark up pictures of slides shows I've taken, highlighted pages of notes, circled, colored, or otherwise improved my digital uses on my Surface. I bought the Surface 3 for college, and to have the functionality to use beyond school. The pen distinctly adds to that versatility. The only downside is that there's no where (natively) to put the pen. It comes with a fabric "loop" - similar in fabric texture to that which is on the keyboard (separate purchase) - with an adhesive on the flag end of the loop. I adhered mine to the fabric, fuzzy side of my keyboard. Be VERY specific when you make the adherence, though. If you stick it, then attempt to move it, you will likely be unable to get it to stick again. Leave the backing on it, put the pen INTO the loop, the play with positioning. When you have it where you know you can access the pen, comfortably, can close it, and can still plug it in, THEN remove the backing and stick it on. Doing so first will likely cause aggravation and result in an additional $5 spent on a new loop.

The surface pen is a great tool to allow a mouse-like functionality. If you're like me, you have some hefty fingers that need to go on a diet (as I've learned, finger foods don't make fingers fit... Go figure). What this pen enables is a mouse cursor type navigation. It works by hovering your pen over the Microsoft surface (any pro edition, or the Surface 3), and a little dot appears to indicate where your "cursor" is. to select something, you simply tap the item you wish to select, and voila... You essentially left clicked. Hold in on that object, and you're right clicking! Also the two side buttons become useful for website navigation, and the quick jump to One Note makes note taking a whole lot easier (read: quicker and more centralized than those sloppy yellow sticky notes you put everywhere... And then that one sticky note with your password on it. Which you should feel ashamed about... Because that's defeating the purpose of passwords. SHAME ON YOU.)

The pen that came from my Surface Pro 3 had a purple eraser. When I saw this new option to get the a solid blue pen I jumped on it. The pen overall is a huge improvement versus the previous Surface Pro. It does more while doing it quickly.; The pen keeps my bag light because I really hate and turn off the touch pad. It really replaces the mouse and the ability to write, capture screen shots instantly. I do a lot of PowerPoint preso's and It also lets me draw and focus in on specific data during the actual slide show. My cons are that the pen is a little pricey but worth it if you are going to use it. The other con is that the supplied pen holder is such a lower grade product to put on this beautiful laptop replacement tablet.

After buying the pen and installing the battery I followed the instructions properly on pairing the pen with my surface. After the pairing cycle completed it indicated that my pen was paired with my surface but nothing with my pen worked besides the button on the end which takes me to one note, like it's suppose to. But, I couldn't write with it and the two buttons on the sides wouldn't work either. The next day, my pen worked for a few minutes before the same issues started happening again. I bought these surfaces for employees to use at work and had this same problem with two other pens, both bought brand new as well.

There's really no reason to get this, over the stock pen, unless you really want it to stand out as different from the stock pen (looks-wise). For those who like the color blue (I happened to love blue, especially dark blues), I'd highly recommend this. It looks even better in person, than it does in the pictures. Works just as expected, in comparison to the OEM Surface pen, but just adds that unique touch when using with your Surface or Surface Pro 3. It also adds a contrast, when using the magnetic connection to the Surface Pro 3, so you can always make sure it's connected and hadn't fallen off.

So the pen is very ergonomic and works very well with the surface. I am concerned about the battery life, but right now it seems to work just fine. The tip works well and against the surface it feels just fine. My only wish is that the pen lip used to hold the pen onto a sleeve were more stylish. The double prong wire like look doesn't make it look like a $50+ pen. Instead my basic hotel room pen lip looks just like it. I would like the price to be a little lower, and I haven't found out the need for the replacement tips just yet.

...if you get a Suface 3? It completes the package. It is a great utility and really helps to drive the functions of the Surface. I've never seen a AAAA battery before, but now I know they exist. They are not too expensive (AAAA batteries) and can be obtained at your usual office supply stores. The battery life itself is fairly robust and the feel of the stylus is very comfortable. You also have orientation calibration so palm rests on the screen will not impact your applications. Nice implementation!

If you are solely interested in writing in Onenote, for example, this is a great device. However if selecting items, files, folders is your main usage I have found that a regular rubber tipped stylus as used with the iPad might be a better choice. I have found the MS stylus to be far too sensitive even when it is not in direct contact with the screen. My addition concern is replacement of the 4A battery. It can be found but not at any regular stores I have tried so far.

The Surface Pro 3 provides the best tablet writing experience available. With the palm detection of the Surface Pro 3 you don't need to worry about resting your hand on the tablet when you writing making it SOOOO much more comfortable. A tip though, BUY THE PEN LOOP HOLDER that is available so you don't lose the pen and end up buying another one! I do wish it was a bit cheaper considering the digitizer in the Surface Pro 3 is doing most of the work.

I'm glad Microsoft decided to spruce up their stylus offerings for the Surface Pro tablet series. This Wacom-based stylus actually works for any Wacom-based digital inking enabled device. I know, based on my experience, that it works with my Vaio Duo Windows tablet/hybrid (the only thing that doesn't work is the launch OneNote by pressing the pen button). This is a great companion to any Surface Pro.

I really like this pen for detail work like Excel and other fine motor skill programs. It is like a mouse in a pen! It has also helped a couple of times when the screen froze. The pen was able to get through and help me get straightened out. I am still not sure what all the pen does - but I have only had it a couple of days. Going to spend some learning curve time this weekend.

NECESSARY for productivity. Primarily looked into the surface 3 for an art tablet-slash-productivity tool. I was expecting to return the entire set just in case it felt like a regular weak windows alternative, but to my surprise it can handle my art programs and this pen is a must have. Specially for those who felt limited to the lack of it on the i-devices.

Having been used to inaccurate e-pens in the past I bought this with low expectations but with the intent of giving it a fair chance. I have to say that the accuracy and fluidity of this pen is almost equal to that of a real pen. A few bugs in the writing and word recognition software notwithstanding, I am very happy with this product.

I purchased this pen because I use it in my job, and it looks more professional than the gray and purple pen that came with my Surface Pro 3. Both pens work the same way, so the difference is strictly in their appearance. These pens work better than the similar Adonit pens worked with my old iPad because the Surface Pro 3 has better palm rejection.

I love that I can use this pen to write on my surface so neatly and with minimal errors. It also comes in pretty handy when I'm feeling lazy and don't want to type on the screen when I'm in tablet mode without my keyboard. Con - the top button of my pen has never worked and I have yet to figure out how to fix whatever my problem is with it.

I'm just starting to use my Microsoft stylus for more functions and am getting more comfortable with it. I'm a daily user of the Wacom Intuos tablet on my desktop, but this has a very different feel that I need to get familiar with. It does work very well and I think if you've never used another brand stylus, you'll acclimate faster than I have.

Using a few different stylus' for my Samsung Note tablet, I must say that this stylus from Microsoft is the best I have used for a tablet. I love my surface pro 3. It is amazing. The stylus is super accurate. Your hand does not impact the screen like it does on the Samsung Note. I highly recommend this stylus. I also love the blue color!

I have tried to use a stylus with my iPad 2, but was disappointed. Granted, the iPad was designed to NOT use a stylus. But there are times when it comes in handy. I find the Surface 3 and the Pen combination to be easy to use and works very well. This is a major step toward making a tablet actually useful for work.

This is a much needed and great addition to the Surface product line. If you end up purchasing a Surface 3, then I highly recommend getting a pen as well. It syncs via Bluetooth and takes one battery that comes with it. It is very accurate and simple to use. You can adjust the pen settings to your liking such as pressure points.

I don't like how this has to be an additional purchase for the surface 3 but its certainly a great accessory. Palm rejection works well. Quick launch of one note is actually rather handy after trying to use it for a while. I do wish that it gives the option to launch something other than one note though.
