    Exceeded Expectations

I had many high expectations for this product, yet somehow this managed to exceed every one of them! This is the definition of a refined product. Rather than trying some new design from Surface Pro 4 to this 2017 Surface Pro, MS just worked on perfecting the Surface Pro 4 which yielded this version. I was so impressed I decided to get the pen as well (which I didn't think I would) to see if that would also exceed my expectation, and yep, it did! The screen is beautiful, battery life perfect, speed excellent, ease of use is through the roof! Easy, fast, simple, and it will make you more productive than any other product!! I use this primarily as a student and a little with my work. The skin I have is a dbrand carbon fiber skin. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a laptop or a tablet (or both obviously) and would not recommend this to anyone looking to game (a true gamer does not mobile game he uses a desktop with the latest nvidia graphics card in SLI-anyone looking to game on a laptop is a disgrace and I ask you to stop reading my review). Of all the surface pro configurations this will be the best configuration for most users as the fanless i5 has the best battery life and you don't need an i7 for laptop/tablet purposes-it would just be a waste of money. 128gb ssd is the best b/c any higher is just more money, and why in gods name do you need more storage on a laptop in 2018? Use the cloud people! 8GB ram is the sweet spot. 4GB is unacceptable and it's sad MS even offers that. 16gb is overkill for laptop/tablet functions in MOST cases. If you're an extreme video editor on the go then go 16, otherwise 8gb is perfect with room to spare :). Of course the other reason to go with this configuration is the great sale best buy has! 799 is a steal of a deal, I would have easily paid triple for this had I known just how great it is before. This is the laptop to end all laptops.

The surface pro 2 bundle (12.5", Core i5, 8GB ram, 128GB SSD w/Platinum Type Cover) was already a great value but with the sale price just barely above the upgraded Surface Go, it was a no brainer. The upgraded type cover is soft and inviting, unlike previously owned laptops with aluminum chassis. Windows 10 runs smoothly on it and the battery life has so far been great. Getting set up was easy and the touch screen so far has been responsive and precise. My biggest complaint would be that if you're using this in your lap, the stand may be a bit harsh on the legs but the laptop is overall so light that it's not too bad. I also feel like the internal SSD is overpriced. There should not be such a premium for more SSD storage these days. I appreciate having the option to add an SD card but why not start at 256GB internal? It's also certainly not a gaming or high performance machine but as an everyday laptop, especially for students, it is a wonderful alternative to the currently outdated MacBook air and the regular sales make it even more appealing.

I got this for college. The semester starts in a few days and I am looking forward to using it in class! It’s fast, light and a beautiful design. It is a bummer that there is only one USB port, but I got an extension hub and it works wonders! The keyboard is also so great! It’s soft, light, and easy to type with. The only con I have to this product so far is the price.

Impressive but the battery life, slow installs

The screen on the surface pro is impressive. The resolution looks astounding and the colors truly pop. For the most part, the surface is snappy and fast except for installations of updates, programs, and apps. When the surface is installing updates or programs like adobe reader or browsers it is utterly sluggish and slow. Downloads from the internet are also slower on this as oppossed to a way older laptop i have. I have 200MBPS internet dwnld speed and verified my internet quality, but i notice the slowness with the surface. I dont plan on frequent downloads or installs of programs so this is not a huge deal breaker but just an annoyance. I specifically reviewed the reviews about the battery life before making this purchase and saw that all reviews report impeccable battery life. The specifications report 13.5 hrs (with video watching and defaults including auto brightness). WHAT AM I MISSING HERE?? I am no gamer or photo editor and i consider myself a very light user. I have turned off ALL radios, location settings, onedrive, and any other data consuming app or setting on my surface that may drain the battery. My battery setting is on the 2nd level- the Recommended level with 33% or 40% screen brightness not enough to fully enjoy the popping screen colors and yet i am only getting about 4 to 6 hours of battery with this on internet browsing, typing on word, or looking at the different settings of the OS. Sometimes the keyboard light is on, sometimes its off. I have literally searched every part of the OS to find anything else draining the battery, i tested shutting down the system and also letting it sleep with airplane mode on for overnight and theres no difference. I also allowed the surface to die of depleting battery to recharge it back to a 100% (found this suggestion through Microsoft's website). If you google "battery life", results will show that the surface battery is nowhere near 13.5 hrs and reports also have that feature as a con of this device. So i question every review on here to please let me know what settings you have and how you use the system to report awesome battery life. With this said, i don't know whether to believe if the reviews are biased towards the battery/product or if somehow I potentially have a defect... Aside from the battery, i am very impressed with this system, especially the touchpad and the keyboard. It is just like a laptop keybaord and is comfortable to type on. The touchpad is super smooth. I would prefer to have Home and End buttons on the right of the layout but i can engage in a learning curve to get use to them at the top. I also would like to see the number pad incorporated on the dedicated letter keys like some laptops have on their keybaords as well. The SD mini crd slot is a nice plus but Microsoft should have included at the minimum, 2 usb's not just 1. I will have to buy the MS dock for $175 to use USB devices simultaneously. One other nuance is that i noticed from removing and inserting my usb devices on the surface, some of the metal or silver paint chips away in little particles as if producing wear and tear on the inside of the usb area of the surface. I hope my usb connections dont become damage by this and was also expecting to see better quality in this area. In reality the surface is just like every other Windows laptop/tablet with its own proprietary design, materials, and parts. The biggest thing going for it IMO is the screen brightness and resolution. But this actually falls short on battery life, I/O, SSD space, and swiftness on certain usage with the system. Perhaps the battery will magically get better over time, that is my main regret and dissapointment with the surface purchase so far. I would be ecstatic about this product if only the PC would last an adequate amount of time per the way i interact with it. Its not a hidden secret that consumers want computers to have adequate ports, storage space, and true battery life that matches everyday usage not just watching videos and auto brightness that dims the screen excessively. I would hope that Microsoft implements this general consensus in their future models of the surface. Luckily i got this on sale.

I am a fairly low level user. No gaming. Videos, emails, Excel, and word mostly. I like the product for it's medium size and compact design. The keyboard attachment is essential for me (it came with). It functions well as a tablet or as a laptop. I have no significant complaints except it seems to be pretty pricey compared to what I would have expected.

I love my new surface pro and pen, together they are great. The surface is fast. Has a USB port, wish it was a thunderbolt port, but the usb 3 is fine. I've been using it for a month or so, I edit photos and videos with it, the pen takes some getting use to, but i really like that too. My even thinking of getting a drawing pad for my desktop, that's how much I like the surface with pen. I had not used windows 10 in tablet mode before, but I use it all the time now. I wish I had gotten the 256 GB hard drive. I recommend it.

I upgraded from an Acer Alpha Switch 12, the Microsoft Surface Pro is an excellent product, fast, beautiful screen, light. The only slight inconvenience is that it slides on the desk when touching the screen. The Acer has rubber bottom on the stand that prevents it from sliding/slipping, that feature would be nice here too. Other than that I really love my Surface Pro!

I still rely on my desktop, but this Surface Pro is a great size to use both as a laptop or a big tablet. Pen works well, although I don't use it much. It is fast to boot or run programs. I added a micro SD for extra storage, and my Office Subscription gives me a Gig in the cloud. Display looks great, and the keyboard with mouse pad works better than expected.

I have been using the Surface Pro for 3 weeks already and so far I have to say the experience has been great. I moved from a MacBook Pro to this device and so far I don't regret it. - Build quality is excellent and durable - Love that is very portable, better than my mac and very reliable. - price tag was great and the spec are just perfect - The keyboard is great, a little flemsy when you type due to the angle of the keyboard and the space between the cover and the surface where you put the device. but overall it's great, the keys are spaced well and they have good travel. - The screen is awesome, I feel that it's better than the retina display on my mac The convenience of using the surface as a pc and a tablet is great and the transition between both is smooth, once you move the cover to the back the device disables the keyboard and you can hold the Surface as a tablet, flip it back and the keyboard is functional again (you also get a notification when movingfrom one set up tp the other one). The only concern I have for right now with my device is the battery life, I feel that I have to plug it very often. Not sure if I am using it to much or if I need to start playing around for the settings but the battery is draining pretty fast.

I bought this for going back to school. I was wanted something lightweight, flexible enough to handle the school load, but useful for other times when not worried about homework. So far, 1 month in, it's doing well! I waffled between this and a traditional laptop with a touchscreen. For the functionality and portability, this has been awesome. Takes up less room than a notebook in my bag, battery lasts all day being toted around and used, and can still entertain myself when downtime strikes (or when kids will inevitably want to watch a movie on it). Hopefully this will stay as useful as it is now going forward in the college career.

I love this thing. No regrets at all (except for buying the pen because I literally never use it). Type keyboard is essential. It turns on quick, haven't experienced any lag after almost 2 years of owning it. See no reason to upgrade since it works great. Battery life is good. Does everything any of laptop/computer can do. Only gripe is that it continues to do an auto-brightness thing that I have turned off in every possible way, even went to forums and contacted microsoft customer service themselves and never found a solution for this. I learned to just deal with it. It's annoying but that's the only thing I found wrong with this. Maybe I got a faulty one, but the hassle of returning and exchanging was too much.

If this package remains available, you can't beat it. You get the Surface in a decent configuration, plus the $160 type cover for less than the Surface normally sells by itself. Can't say anything bad about the Surface. Have had them for years, and they are product that launched and still defines the genre. It's not what everyone wants or needs, but if you know you want a Surface, with an I5, this is the package to get. Only drawback is that it only comes with the platinum keyboard. That would have been my choice anyway. If you just have to have red or blue, it'll cost you $160. Maybe you can sell the platinum one ;)

I also own a Note Pro which has Android on it. Using it I would sometimes wish it had Windows. Enter the Surface Pro which is by far a more powerful machine. It works best with the type cover because using it as a tablet, I find myself wanting my Note Pro. This is a software issue with the way Windows 10 is designed so I'm sure a future update will refine its tablet functionality. As far as the hardware, the Surface Pro is awesome. Everything screams quality. The screen... the kickstand.... the type cover (which should be included standard in my opinion) are all well built as I type this review on my Surface Pro. The battery life is good.... not Android tablet good but better than some laptops I've used. It's the ultimate portable being the size of a paper notebook but with the full power of Windows and the processing power to drive it with ease. 8GBs of memory is the current sweet spot for memory and the 128GBs of storage is easily expanded with a micro SD card. I am very happy with the Surface Pro and look forward to the next generation of Surface Pros.
