I'm just another typical IT guy who has pretty much built, owned, used, and repaired every type of device you can think of. When shopping for personal devices, I often times cringe at the thought of spending my own hard earn money when I can just use my business devices. At the end of the day, I still need something at home for personal use and my current laptop is at the 5-6 year mark. I had my eyes set on the Surface Pro i5 or i7 but the price is difficult for me to justify despite my constant desire for having the latest and greatest. When I saw the Core M go on sale during the Black Friday/Cyber Monday week, I couldn't resist getting it and trying it out. Honestly I was prepared to return it the moment I picked it up but once I started using it, I realized it's everything I wanted and needed performance wise. I have since used it in basic IT troubleshooting, meetings, note taking (lots of OneNote), and presentations. It's passed the wife and kids test too with their relentless urge to use it as a sketch-board and online shopping. It's handled everything I've thrown at it including having obscene number of tabs open in Chrome. The fact it's not weighted down with bloatware that you often find from other manufacturers is a HUGE plus. It's pretty much ready to go out of the box without investing hours of cleanup before you can put it through its paces. I think it's time to put the old laptop into retirement and keep the Surface Pro. Overall, if you looking for something with lightweight use (non-CAD apps or GPU intensive games), I think you'll be happy with the Core M. As for gaming, games such as Minecraft run flawlessly and there's plenty of YouTube videos and sites that show benchmarks for the Core M. It's a bargain when it's on sale considering it comes with the type cover. Would I have rather owned the i5 or i7 models? Of course but only because of my infatuation for having the best but those prices are a little scary for my needs. Needless to say, I'm impressed.

I've debated between many different computers before settling on this Surface Pro. I tried the MacBook Pro (non-touchbar 256 GB model), the MacBook (m3), Lenovo Yoga 910, and SurfaceBook. I was concerned the Intel m3 and 4 GB of RAM wouldn't be enough. It's not a powerhouse, but it's worked great for what I've thrown at it. I don't game with my machine. I use it for work, on the go. I always have the Mail app open, Edge (12+ tabs), Internet Explorer w/ Silverlight, Excel, and often include other apps like the Calendar, Calculator and other apps. I haven't noticed any hesitation even with all of the above apps open simultaneously and including the multiple tabs. Color me impressed! Plus, the main reason I was willing to go with the m3 instead of an i5 or i7 was the better battery life. I've had the computer unplugged all day and never had a problem where I needed my charger. Some reviewers have complained about light bleed on the Surface Pro line; I haven't noticed that. Mine has been running well and I have no complaints. I've been using a MacBook Air since 2013, but I've never been afraid of Windows. MacOS has grown old and stale. Windows 10 is different than the Windows 7 I used last time I was in the Microsoft ecosystem, but it's not too difficult to adjust to. One of the biggest things I was concerned about losing when leaving Apple was their Coherence functionality between iPhone and MacOS. Using Windows 10 though, they've done a lot to include the same functions. I can open a website in Safari on my iPhone, the continue using it on my Surface. I can use the To Do app on my iPhone and it syncs just fine with the same app on my Surface. The only function I miss is being able to send/receive text messages on my computer. I suspect Microsoft is working on that too though because a friend says his Android has that ability. Definitely give this a second look if you're considering a computer. You'll be glad you did.

The Surface Pro Core M so far, has been great for basic web surfing, online banking/shopping, streaming on Hulu, and checking emails. The picture is super clear and bright screen. I like the flip stand, and backlit keyboard is great for laptop use in the dark. I actually have not used all the other features yet, but will eventually try them out. My only problem (for now) was that the Surface timed out and turned off on me!...while I was web surfing...sooo hmmm, I checked the battery and I still had 43% left...ok. So, I turned it back on, and thought it was just a 1 time occurrence. I had 2 other browsers open as I was switching back and forth. I proceeded to do some online banking and as I was scrolling down, it turned off AGAIN! Ok, so, I thought my screen saver/lock screen was set for less than a 1 minute....no. Then I checked to see if the Surface was in "Tablet Mode"...no. So, I basically dismissed it (again). This happened 2 days after my purchase on Black Friday. I'm pretty patient and like the compact design and love how I can take it any where, so I planned to see if it happened again before I take advantage of the free Geek Support that came with this purchase. Well, it turned off 3 times (again) the following day, while I was checking my email. During these times, I was using it as a laptop (w/keyboard), but occasionally, touched the screen to scroll up, as I do not have the Surface Pen. So, now, I have an appointment for Geek Support...and definitely will be looking at the option of returning for a new product (was previously looking at the Samsung Galaxy Book) or exchange for a new Surface... Other than the turning off on me while actually using the Surface, for $700 (regardless of the Door Buster Deal), it should come with the Surface Pen as well. As for recommending this, I will put yes, but will obviously let them know of my situation.

    Travel PC

I purchased the Surface Pro for a travel PC. I have a iPad and 17" laptop and was looking for something small with full Windows OS. However after using the Surface Pro for a few weeks I have come to the conclusion that I don't use the Surface Pro as a tablet; without the keyboard. The kickstand limits the flexibility of the device. For example you cannot use the keyboard without the kickstand pulled out. As the keyboard hinge cannot support the weight of the screen, unlike a traditional laptop. Therefore a traditional laptop requires less table depth, distance from keyboard to hinge, than the Surface Pro. Due to the distance from the hinge to the kickstand. This may become an issue with narrow tables like at a coffee shop counter, airplane tray table, or laptop arm attached to a desk. Additionally unlike a traditional laptop, if the person on the airplane in the seat in front of you reclines their seat, the screen on the Surface Pro cannot tilt forward, towards you. Only backwards. I also find the Surface Pro less comfortable when lying down on a bed and on an uneven surface. I would only recommend the Surface Pro, if you are absolutely sure you will use as a tablet. I don't. I may move to a 360 flip.

This is more than a tablet because of the interface with Microsoft Office. I am an English professor here and needed a lightweight laptop because I walk quite a distance to get to my classroom from the parking lot. My old laptop weighed in at 5.75 pounds - this one is ultralight and easy to use although if you don't touch the keyboard for more than 5 seconds, the screen has a tendency to switch itself off (?) - this can get a little inconvenient while lecturing. The Surface is not as intuitive as the Mac - installation of the software was a bit of a pain because you had to have a Chrome account before installing, which I didn't have. Here's an idea: why not sell the Surface with the Office software already loaded on it so you don't have to fiddle around with software codes and figure where to enter them? That would have saved about two hours of aggravation. This is what stops me from giving it a 5 star review. Nevertheless, I am thrilled with the weight of the Surface (at 1.7 pounds) and at the sale price, I basically got the keyboard for free. The keyboard is very easy to operate and typing on it is a breeze. I'm learning more about it and what it can do all the time, and I am looking forward to buying the Surface pen and Dial to start drawing with it.

I love my surface pro. I needed for my college because i had an apple and my apple would not work on the server at my college. This surface joined the server with out a problem compare to all the problems i had with my apple devices on the server. It is easy to transfer to campus and home everyday compare to my other laptop. I love the windows hello too. To me it feels more secure then typing in a password. it makes me feel better when i log in on campus because if someone walks by me and seeing me put in my password I would be nervous that they figured out my password. versus having windows hello and I don't have to worry about passwords. I love the battery life on here too. I love how I do not have to bring my charger With me to college. The only downfall with the charger is that i think it's a little to short. especially if I have to charge on campus because if i don't have a close outlet I am going to have trouble charging it.

I bought this basic bundle for 629 USD on black Friday. The M3 7Y30 is supper capable for what it is. The device is snappy and even with its low RAM of 4GB I can have multiple tabs open on the browser (RAM HOG), multiple adobe PDFs, Word Documents, and many other programs without a lot of slowing down. If the device is plugged in, it’s certainly a lot snappier and if you use Intel XTU you can see that it goes from 4.5 Watt to 15 Watt, allowing the CPU to reach its maximum GHz without throttling. I have tuned it using XTU to under-volt it and that way I can keep the temperature down and the battery life a bit longer. Overall the battery life is excellent. I chose the M3 over the i5 due to battery life and cost. The i5, 4GB, 128GB won’t be a lot faster due to its limited RAM, and if I went with the i5, 8GB, 256GB (Ideal set up for the i5), it would have been a lot more money. I already have multiple machines, so this one was purely for portability and now raw power. Goods -Battery life -Screen (Bright and Clear with minimal light bleed) -Power to portability ratio -Type cover is pretty nice -Portability -Quality Bads -I have not found any yet, well maybe the price outside of a deal!

I purchased this product as a secondary pc for college usage. I use a gaming pc most of the time when I am at home at my desk. However, when I am at school I do use this surface for about 5+ hours 3 days a week. I was surprised with its performance due to its specs. Web browsing having 6+ tabs open a long with a video streaming, one note, and word open this little pc just kept chugging along. Despite what one reviewer said I notice absolutely no lagging or stuttering even when doing a good amount of multi tasking. No light bleeding either. The screen on this is amazing, 2K! Makes text and videos a pleasure to look at. Also the battery life is amazing. Microsoft claims 13.5hrs I got about 10-11hrs. Do not expect this to be a power house of a pc despite its price asking. This PC is meant for everyday personal use. If you are into running multiple programs that would otherwise be more demanding than basic personal needs then go with the i5,8gb 256gb model. Otherwise just a basic college student here enjoying using it!

I've debated on getting the Surface Pro 4 for a very long time. I've been buying other laptop's, just beneath the price of the Pro 4 because I couldn't afford it. I ended up having to return them because they didn't meet me requirements, and spent a little more for the Surface. I'm a college student and an Entrepreneur, and so I need something that I can take with me everywhere, durable, fast, and of course aesthetically pleasing. This meets all of the requirements and more. It's one of those purchases that just keeps on surprising me. I've owned so many laptops, and I'm glad I bought this one because it blew the other ones I've had out of the water. I just wish I made the choice sooner! I won't be going back.

I was in the market for a tablet. I had been primarily using about a three year old PC laptop that I felt was about to go out on me. I needed something that I could use for schoolwork and be able to carry with me without a lot of weight. I was debating between a Surface Pro and an Ipad Pro. I also have an iPhone and iPod that I use regularly, as well as, a 2009 MacBook Pro that still works pretty well for an 8 year old laptop. Sadly, I went with this Surface Pro, which is ridiculously slow. When I first I got it, it needed to be updated. I left it plugged in for hours while it updated and it would not come back on. I should have returned it then. I don't even do a lot with it besides checking email, writing papers, and surfing the internet and it takes too long to do these things with a brand new tablet. My boyfriend got a used iPad Pro at the same time I purchased this tablet and he has no issues whatsoever. Thus, I am feeling buyer's remorse.

I purchased this when my laptop from college finally gave up (RIP baby). I chose to get something that could turn into a tablet versus another laptop because I wanted something that was more portable and easier to just slip into my tote bag when on the go. Pros: - Battery lasts all day (with appropriate settings) without affecting the performance for what I need to do. - Easy to just grab and go - Microsoft Office works well for my (minimal) needs Cons; - Keyboard doesn't always respond quickly and seems to "freeze" - Limited storage space in comparison to my (old) laptop - Tends to slip behind the couch cushions if I'm not paying attention when setting it down. Overall: It's not a high-performance laptop for gaming and I wouldn't use it as a main work computer, but for basic streaming, browsing, and reading, it does what it's supposed to do.

I've had this for a few days now, it has its quirks but works for my needs. Has light bleed along the sides, especially at the bottom of the screen. You will need to remove the old windows version after the fall creator's update finishes, as storage space is very limited. Screen is very bright and the enhanced colors are nice, but it's also pretty reflective. Sometimes scrolling is rather shaky- it doesn't do this on all websites, but it doesn't like others, esp with video ads. Don't buy unless your needs are minimal, or shell out more for the i5 processor.

I own a Mac, however I have a CD disc that I needed to install on a Windows platform to take to work. And I needed a portable laptop. I love the facial recognition, the removable keyboard and the pen (purchased separately). The keyboard has a nice, expensive touch to it. I haven't set up a laptop in awhile, and this one was easy! I could download my disc using an external Apple CD drive with some zip file installer my genius computer son found online. I also liked the fact that the keyboard, power cord and computer were all included. It handles like a dream at work--my coworker complains that I suck up all the wifi power! Her computer runs slower when I'm working,...hmmm. I'm sure someone will tell me this is not possible...

So happy with this purchase. This is such a great device. All the power of a laptop with the ease of a tablet. It runs full windows 10. It is so light weight and the size is perfect for holding. The pen is so intuitive. I mainly purchased for its digital art capabilities and it has not disappointed. The pressure sensitivity is perfect. And if it isn't for you it can be adjusted. The screen is crisp and clear with great resolution. The battery life is very strong. You get a standard 6-8 hours depending on what you are doing. And it charges fully in about an hour. I also love the charging port. It's nice that it is close to flush to the device. If you are looking for a cost effective tablet that can double as a computer when needed I would definitely suggest this device.

I was hesitant coming from my 4 year old Macbook Air which the battery was shot and that was getting kind of sluggish. But couldn't resist the black Friday deal. $630 with the keyboard. Best decision ever. The most gorgeous screen ever. Snappy and long lasting battery. I am averaging 9 hours or high 9. Its a little multitasking beast. Great security features. The intel core M will do most the work that mine old core 5 from 4 years ago could do or more. No hiccups so far. Buttery smooth. A little learning curve coming from a Mac but nothing complicated. Windows has really come a long way as far as changes and cleaning up the house. Super lightweight and convenient. Well built and honestly way more slick and sexy than my macbook air. Really happy.

Was able to buy this combo on a sale and thought I would try it out as a laptop replacement. I was a little concerned about the low-end processor and only 4GB of RAM. So far I have been very pleased. I am only using this for web activity and light office applications. It has been very responsive and I have not noticed any sort of performance issues. The high-res screen is a pleasure to look at and it allows you to get more content on the screen compared to other options. Overall I am very pleased with my new Surface Pro and look forward to the improved portability when I travel with it.

I was very skeptical after using the Samsung tablets, an Asus Transformer tablet and another brand tablet. Will never buy an apple product but for my online portfolio, website etc when on the road, I needed something that would fit my needs. This surface filled all of the needs. It worked well with office, email, facebook, websurfing, and displaying my website and online portfolio and weighs nothing and fits anywhere. The added keyboard and cover included and the Best Buy Price I got it at 649.00 on sale can't be beat. I can not say enough good things about this unit. Taking it on the road is a joy.

This review is for the M model with 4 gig of RAM. I purchased this computer as an open box with the keyboard for much less than a 2 in 1 and about the same price as a Chromebook. I was looking for a computer to replace my Samsung Chromebook which was starting to get slow when visiting complex websites. The Best Buy technician suggested that I look at Surface. I am glad I did! The screen is great and the machine has not skipped a beat. Mostly I have used it for web surfing and Excel work. The keyboard cover feels nice as well and I was surprise to see it was backlit! One of the best computing devices that I’ve ever used. I flip back and forth with ease between the laptop and tablet modes, but mainly I stay in laptop and enjoy the extra tablet benefits such as touch and stylus. For someone who travels a lot on a plane, this device has been wonderful since I can work in tight spaces. It has a nice screen which is very bright and sharp, much better than my corporate laptop. This purchase included the keyboard which was nice. In the past you had to buy it separately.
