    Very nice tablet

I purchased my surface pro because I needed something more mobile and lighter than my laptop for business use. This tablet is fast and has handled as well as my laptop. The powerful Intel processor handles video quite nicely. The screen images are sharp and clear. I made my choice based on ability to be able to use Microsoft Office suite. The touch screen is quick and responsive. It generates a bit of heat when taxing the processor but not nearly as much as my laptop. No problems connecting to Wifi networks. I am really rooting for Win8 to gain acceptance because I have found it to be very stable and user friendly on the touchscreen, I also have it on a laptop and it has a few minor issues when used on a desktop system but it is not nearly as crippled as the press would lead you to believe. The typekey cover attaches firmly and stays firmly attached during use. It is responsive enough and nearly as good as a laptop keyboard. It is much better than the touch cover that I tried using on the sales floor but did not seem to be very good. I have only a few gripes about my Surface Pro. Battery life is just plain inadequate. 4-5 hours at best when surfing the net, a couple of hours only when streaming video. That is the payoff to get performance from the snappy processor and the ability to use full blown Office suite. The audio levels are too low to hear if the room has any ambient noise. This is supposed to be a mobile media consumption device so it needs more adequate volume to listen too in a modestly noisy environment. This tablet is heavy in comparison to computers tablets, do not expect to hold it in one hand comfortably for very long while using it. The images from the cameras are very grainy and look like what we got on low grade cell phones a few years ago. My final complaint is the cost is unnecessarily high in my opinion. I felt the value was not very good in comparison to purchasing a laptop with better specs at the same or lower price. I had no choice but to go with the surface so I could use excel and word. If Office were available for an IPad I probably would have made a different choice. Overall I love its portability and power to run full blown pc apps and software. I just wish I didn't have to pay high end laptop prices to get this in a tablet form.

I have gone through 9 laptops since 12/26/12: 3x with an Acer, 4x with an Asus (both PC laptops had something wrong with them), and 2 Macbook Pro's. I would have kept the macbooks, but decided to wait for the new releases for the amount of money I spent for them. In the meantime, I needed something for school. My husband got lucky when he stopped by our local BB and the 128GB was available, as well as the type cover. We also took advantage of the $100 off tech support, as we have a 4 year old desktop with an expired warranty. Enough backstory... HERE'S THE LOWDOWN: Before I had the surface I was printing out my powerpoint lectures for class (I am currently on my 2nd black ink, and will have to buy another color ink soon# and took notes on them during lectures. I will no longer have to b/c I can insert my powerpoint lectures and take notes on them using the pen that came with surface on OneNote. How awesome is that? It's $99/year for Office365, but it's really cheap considering ink runs about $20-$25 per cartridge. My husband also bought the 64GB micro SD, and I also have a 64GB USB flash drive that I keep my school files on. I could not be more pleased with my Valentine's Day gift. This is tablet is a full-fledged laptop. Yes, it doesn't have a lot of storage, but there are ways around it. It's super fast and the display is crystal clear. I don't think I will need the macbook pro anymore #though I did love it for the few days I had it). So in the long run, it helps save on paper, ink, and another device. I guess it is worth the money spent on it. If you work on office or school documents a lot, this is the device to get. I am so glad my husband got it for me...the 10th time's a charm.

Hands Down... What a tablet is supposed to be

Before the evolution of “APPs”, we longed for a small tablet that could be taken “On the Go” and still conduct business. The tablets prior to the Windows 8 Tablets where a nice shot at being an on the go system, but they lacked to ability to replicate your at home operating environment. The Windows 8 tablet does it all. Although the Windows RT tab lacks the power, it was a legit attempt at mimicking the desktop feel. The Windows 8 Pro is the ultimate tablet. A tablet with a C: Drive / directories ... what a concept. This is “On the Go” computing at its best. Let’s be honest, most Apps are useless. We play with them for a short duration, and then we are back to the basics. At any given time, you can navigate away from the Windows start menu and actual work on a document, PowerPoint or excel spreadsheet… seamlessly. If you have need to actually create a document for work or school, no problem. Just save it to your desktop like you would with any other PC. Try doing that with an iPad or Nexus. You can also have multiple users on one tablet. So my fiancé and I don’t have to share the same settings. She can pick it up and jump right to her profile. And the mouse actually works. The mouse may be the way of the past. But some of us are use to using it. So I immediately handed my old iPad to the kids, because now I can actually Compute On the Go.

I had been looking forward to the release of MS Surface for one reason: I wanted to have a device that would alow me to do everything I needed to accomplish on one device instead of 2. (Laptop & Tablet). I have used both Apple and Samsung (Android) devices and have trended toward the Samsung, as I may be classified more as a "power user", that old description of computer users who whated to have more say in the look, feel and control of the interface. I must say that I am a big fan of the Apple experiance and came close to moving that direction untill the annoucement of Surface Pro, when I put off everything for about a year.... Let me just say I have not been disapointed. For years I have not been one to get excited about new computer/technology... I just want it to work and I do not jump at the latest WOW factors.... So with that said, I have really enjoyed Surface and think, it is the best device I have purchased in years. I know that there could be alot of things that can and will be improved. I read 100's of reviews and put my hands on at least 6 diffrent type of devices including the Samsug counterpart which by the way was $300.00 less.... but $1 for $1 I found the Surface at this time to give the best value and options. Yes, I would love to have the battery life at least 2x and Yes the app store is lacking (big time) and okay the price tag is in my opinion is a couple of 100 high..... However, with all of that said, this has more than exceeded my expectations as a Laptop and Tablet and a device that can do it all. As a family member said as he played with it, "WOW this is nice, this is fast, this makes me think twice.... P.S. (He is a 100% Apple guy).

I must start by saying I own only apple items. From desktop to laptop is all mac. My tablets are ipads. With that outta the way I must say this thing is the best device I have used in a long time. It reminds me of the first ipad in the way no one knew how it should or could fit into everyday life. this thing is a power house of a computer and as simple as a tablet. Battery, I get around 6.5 to 8 hours of life out of battery by simply adjusting a few settings in the power plan. I have to plans saved , one for full on plugged in power and one for the road. touch cover, this is more a personal thing ( I am typing this review with it). I love it, if you have typed at all on an ipad or iphone screen than touch cover is for you! it feels the same and works better! hard drive space, This takes about 20 mins of your time and on a 64 gig hard drive I had over 55 gigs free to use. You can also plug any external hard drive onto it for unlimited space, oh yeah and a micro sd slot. I just have to defend this thing for it truly is a great device. I play everything from WoW, Rift and star wars on here and it handles them like a beast! CoD play great! I have yet to install a game thst didn't run well on here! Don't get me wrong here, its a small screen so you wouldn't wanna sit for hours on end playing something like WoW for hours on end but a time killer you are go to go! Thanks for reading my review and I hope it helps

Just what I have been looking for a table that fill my portable needs. Best table I have ever used. It can run BlueStacks so I can still use my Android apps as well. Runs Microsoft Visual Studio 2012 fine. Try that on an Ipad or Nexus 10. Runs all my favorite desktop apps like Libra Office. Full Flash support with any browser so I am not worried about the lack of Windows 8 Metro apps. More compact and easier to carry than my laptop which has been upgraded to Windows 8. I got the 64GB version because this is not my main device. I already have a USB 3.0 hub so I can hook up as much storage as I want. Most will need the 128 GB but I do not. Great experience using this with Smartglass. I like the fact the charger has an extra port to charge another device. Speakers could be better but like most devices they rely on you using headphones most of the time anyway. Charges fast so battery life does not bother that much. If you go into settings under Power Options you can get even more battery life by changing some things. The type cover works will with it. With Xbox Live support I can get gamer score on the go. The Surface Pro has more pins at the bottom than the Surface RT, hopefully for more accessories like charge docks in the future. It benchmarks a lot better than an Ipad or any ARM type tablet. With recent firmware updates Windows To Go feature is enabled which is normally a Enterprise only feature. The Surface has the best Wifi antennas of any device I have ever used. Where some device get no bars the Surface has two or three. That was also one of the main reasons I got it. If you need something for productivity and are a power user I would recommend this. If all you do is check emails and use for entertainment you might want a cheaper option.

    Great functionality, some user frustration

I bought this tablet because I was sick of carrying around my bulky laptop while traveling. I first bought the Surface RT and promptly returned it because I was looking for full PC functionality. If you mainly want a tablet and won't be writing papers, etc., then definitely go with an iPad as it is probably better value for money. I am happy with the portability and functionality as I was dreaming about finding a PC/tablet for a long time and then the Surface came out! There are some definite bugs that need to be worked out. The touch screen can be very frustrating sometimes and I often find myself needing a mouse. I also find myself refreshing the page often because it becomes unresponsive. I won't be getting rid of my laptop, but I will be using the Surface for travel mainly. I just keep crossing my fingers that Microsoft will work through the bugs and fix things through updates. I really like the stylus pen. It is very responsive and I'm very impressed with OneNote. The Pro isn't good value for money. If it came with the key board and Microsoft Office installed, then it would be. But for the price I paid I was expecting it to work flawlessly. I would recommend this to a friend, however I may suggest they wait for a Surface 2 to be released. A few more notes: the app store is really bad, the battery life isn't great, and it gets really hot, really quickly. These were all things I knew before purchasing though, so I wasn't surprised.

After much research I returned my vaio laptop and bought a surface pro. I'm glad I did! The vaio is a good machine but I wanted tablet portability with the specs of an ultrabook. Another factor was seeing the beautiful 1080p screen (with wacom technology# in the store. Surface pro is fast and can also play the games I tried out at moderate graphics settings. The somewhat negative factors pointed out by critics #weight, battery life# aren't a big deal to me since the device is built and functions so well as a computer. The battery can be set to save more power and after a while the weight is barely noticeable. To make a fully functional and fast tablet device like this some sacrifice needs to be made. So what if it's a slightly heavier tablet. It's still a tablet. Windows 8 takes a couple days to get used to but works great especially with a touch screen. Everything seems to work fine, including the wifi and the stylus pen. I just wish it wasn't so tough to find the type keyboard at a local store. Some type of cover should have been bundled with it. As a digital media major I will be using this hooked up to a monitor through the mini display port #another great feature that works well). Great job Microsoft.

I told an Employee at Best Buy that I would write this review lol. This tablet-laptop is great for all electronics users, Windows 8 Pro can be different at first but so easy to learn, I had it completely figured out in about 20 minutes and felt comfortable on it. For those whose don't understand the Main differences between Windows 8 Pro and Windows RT is, RT cannot download programs (ex. Mozilla Firefox), while Pro 8 can download and install these programs onto you desktop. The battery problems are excused by the mere performance of this incredible Tablet. What do you expect when you are running an Intel Core i5 processor, in something that fits in your hands? The surface's battery is only allowed a certain number of recharges, I don't know much about this since I have just gotten my Tablet. I hope the come out with a replaceable battery that later lasts longer but this will do for now. Even though Microsoft office is not installed from the factory the option to download the full version is pretty incredible. but I have to go so I'll finish the review so later. Hope this helped so far.

I looked at all kinds of so called "tablets". Some of them with flip screens, or spinning screens, or dual screens, They were all much bigger than the Surface Pro, most had louder fans, most of them had USB2 instead of USB3, HCSD rather than XCSD, and HDMI rather than mini display port. Some had little flimsy plastic covers over the SD port. None of them had a digitizer pen. (capacitive pen does not do pressure sensitive pen input.). most of the other units were plastic, and kind of flimsy. When I twisted or bent them, they popped and cracked like cheap plasic would. The Surface is very solid. It feels like one piece. The Surface Pro is obviously built using the latest, greatest, fastest ports and componnents. As an artist, I LOVE, LOVE , LOVE the pressure sensitive pen. I can get suttle nuiances in my sketches previously not possible without carrying a full sized digitizer pad. Bottom Line: If you don't need the faster processor, and faster data transfer rate with the USB3, and the higher resolution output from the mini DP, and the precision pen input, then get something else. This is an expensive device designed for serious work. It's not an internet / email pad.

Despite what all the Ipad folks might like the world really is a Windows World and Microsoft has produced the most serious tablet to ever hit the market. It isn't a toy but a really nice tool designed for heavy lifting. Unlike any other tablet it can run the real software the grown ups use to get serious work done. As a full time programmer I needed a power full computer to write the software for the new world of Windows 8 and Microsoft delivered the Surface Pro just in time! After several frustrating attempts with lessor Tablets I finally found the one I can use in my programming work. Its ultra portable but has no drop in performance as I run IDE's like Visual Studio 2012. It has the fastest, newest interfaces, such as USB3 for sending files at ultra-high speed and the Type Cover is a dream to type on. The high definition monitor and rectangular design has proven to be so much better than I expected especially after using several other Tablets. This sleek piece of hardware is perhaps the most significant advancement to hit the Tablet Market ever and will mark its place in Microsoft's long and storied history.

Even with my self-built gaming PC, my Surface Pro is my main computer now. The 3rd generation i5, 4GB DDR3 RAM, Solid state drive, and Intel HD 4000 graphics make the Surface Pro perform more like an Ultrabook than a tablet. Because there's no manufacturer (Asus, HP, Dell, etc.) there's no bloatware preinstalled (ie, antivirus trials, media playing software, etc), which is very nice. (Pegatron makes Surfaces at the moment, by the way) But compared to other tablets, it is heavier and has worse battery life, but that's the trade-off with performance. Ideal for a "work computer" with Windows 8 Pro to encrypt the hard drive and portable drives too, as well as being able to connect to corporate domains. The pen works and feels like a real pen/pencil. You can mark up documents, OneNote, .pdfs and more. And the "eraser" works like the real thing too. Magnetically attaches to the charging port to avoid losing a $30 stylus. Full size USB 3.0, microSDXC slot and miniDisplayPort really do make it more than any other tablet to expand memory, easily send files, or connect to a projector/monitor/TV. Get a Bluetooth mouse and type keyboard for the full laptop/desktop experience.

I bit the bullet and read all the reviews and said what the heck, I could always return it. Return it?. Not on your best day. I was so impressed I gave my ipad to my son AND sold my imac pro to pay for this. The IPL takes about 4 - 6 seconds to boot, every time. The ipad takes longer. Integrating a tablet and a laptop is sweet. The banking I do requires me to view the entire account, pinning the web address to the start page now allows me to access from the tablet form. The app on my ipad was in short form and I ended up on the net anyway.Yes, I know you can do it from any windows pc but this is faster and,.... just faster. Windows 8 is fluid and smooth. I haven't had any issues with the battery but if there is any issues it is definitely overshadowed by the overall operation of this unit. I know this review wont help the die hard "I people "but if you need a change this is the way to go. I also bought the external keyboard. not the totally enclosed one, although it was very responsive, Couldn't get used to not knowing where the keys were. So I bought the tactical model. Perfect combination. I hope you found this helpful.

I absolutely love it. This i5 tablet has replaced my i7 samsung laptop because of how easy it is to carry around and use with the pen/stylus. I can use AutoDesk Sketchbook to draw and paint almost like real paper. It takes some getting used to running around in Adobe Master Suite and coding for the web is a little bit difficult with the keyboard, but they are small sacrifices for all of the pro's that come with it. It is so easy to work on the go, hook up my power inverter in my car to the tablet and tether with my mobile hotspot on my samsung galaxy s3. It's a mobile office everywhere I go. The battery doesn't last very long and gets pretty hot. The charger is a little bit difficult to get plugged in at times. Also, when watching Netflix/Hulu the max volume doesn't seem to be loud enough to hear over certain ambient noises in the house. Music is fine though. Might just be the Apps. It is also really hard to get the stylus to calibrate correctly, you have to adjust yourself to how far off the stylus is and take that into account when you are working on precision based draw/sketch projects. However the handwriting recognition on the tablet input keyboard is amazing. The app store is fairly limited right now, but I am sure that will change with time.

I've been using my SurfacePro extensively for about a month. It's an amazing machine- it compliments my iPad and the addition of Office 2013 has changed the way I work. The type cover is worth the extra $$. It's very comfortable to use for extended document creation- I prefer it to my laptop. I am not a gamer, but the i5 processor and 4 GB of RAM have been more than adequate for my work and entertainment needs. The most pleasant surprise has been how useful the included pen has been- I find my self actually writing e-mail. The software has learned my foibles and the accuracy is quite impressive. I've also gained a new appreciation for OneNote when used with the pen. And it doubles as a laser pointer in PowerPoint as well. I also appreciate the design of the SurfacePro. Yes, it is heavier than my iPad, but it hasn't been a problem in terms of transport or actual use. The addition of the USB port and the micro sd card slot makes the SurfacePro super functional as a work machine and entertainment device. The screen is very nice and movies look great. The sound from the unit is underwhelming, but that's why I have a good set of headphones. And the addition of the USB charging port on the power adapter is a really handy touch. Well done, Microsoft!

Picked up my Surface Pro yesterday. I have to say this device is awesome! It is a full Intel based laptop AND a slate. I sold my iPad and I'm now using this device exclusively. I bought the 64GB model. I moved the 8GB recovery partition to a USB stick to free up 8GB of storage. A utility in Control Panel called Recovery makes this very easy. I have all my apps installed and all my documents moved to this device and I still have 24GB of disk left. I also added a MicroSD card to gain an additional 64GB of storage. This Surface Pro is elegant and fast. I know the press are comparing the Surface Pro to an iPad. There is no comparison between the devices. This is a full fledged laptop built in the form factor of a slate. The stylus is really cool for taking notes in OneNote.

I just can't believe that is doesn't come with office. The sales person apparently didn't either because when I asked her point blank if it did she said yes. I'm giving microsoft a big thumbs down for not putting their featured product on their very own hardware and I'm giving best buy a thumbs down for not correctly informing their staff. BOOOOO! I don't really like having screen protectors on my stuff because I feel it softens the selection, makes it a bit harder to do fine click and drag maneuvers so I didn't get one, big mistake, the screen is incredibly easy to scratch. I have a ton of little scratches on it already and I haven't even owned it for a week yet. If your going to get this thing get the screen protector, its cheaper from microsoft than from Best Buy (fyi). All that being said it is a very powerful unit that runs full applications, can run multiple things at once and has a USB port which a lot of tablets don't. You can also expand the memory with a micro SD card so I wouldn't get the 128 model if I were you.

I traded up from rt because the pro wasn't available when I was ready to purchase. I had done a ton of research and knew this was what I wanted but it has been even more fun than I imagined. I have gotten si much more personal work done and been much faster returning emails because it's just so convenient. I carry it everywhere. OK it's a little bit heavier than the rt but I use it all the time everywhere. I love being able to hook my big camera in via usb port or just slip in the micro-sd. I'm not a huge tech geek but I have a variety of devices and I've had more fun with than anything in a long time. It's sturdy, too. I also really like that the power cube has a usb port on it that I can use to charge another device at the same time I'm charging the pro. Battery life is really good so far, too. Had it about a month and no regrets about spending the money at all. Not having a billuon apps isn't a problem for me but others might find that limiting.

I needed to replace a 17 inch fading laptop and wanted something lite and small. I had originally purchased a Lenovo Lynx tablet. Best Buy customer service was fantastic when my Lenovo started having problems, geek squad worked with me but in the end the Lenovo needed to be replaced...twice. In the end Best Buy offered me an exchange for another brand and I purchased the Microsoft Surface. I can compare it to both the Lenovo and a laptop. It is awesome! It's fast, easy to use and I haven't had a single issue with it. The battery life is short on the pro but I knew that ahead of time. I use it for work and writing, so my main programs are Word, Excel and Onenote, and the mail app. I also love that I can run ITunes on the Surface which I could not do on the Lenovo. I have also given up my E reader and just use the Nook app. It is heavier than an E reader but I don't mind. I like the convenience of having one small tablet rather than a laptop and an e reader when I travel. The type cover keyboard is great and I can't say enough about the stylus. Totally worth every penny!

I've had the Surface Pro for almost a month now and I absolutely love it! I looked up a bunch of different tablets and had it down to the Samsung galaxy note 10 and the Microsoft Surface. So I then went to best buy and talked to a sales men about the differences. The surface won hands down. Its faster, has a USB port & you don't have to count on apps or the app store to do what you want to do. You can also make your favorite sites apps so its easier to get to the places you want to go. Its basically a laptop that you are able to hold in your hands. I play games and watch videos on it. I've found the battery lasts quite a while. Easy to turn on and off. Also when you turn it on your not waiting and waiting for it to start. In less than a minute your on it checking Facebook or whatever. This Tablet was one of the Best purchases I've made this year!
