Cons:
1) I don't get where everyone is complimenting the battery life. This is my second. Imitating a test form one site that said they got about 6 hours (running Netflix). My first one gave me about 3.5 hours. This one gave me 4.5. The 4.5 is acceptable, but not "great" like everyone is saying. I get reasonable use our of it. The 3.5 for seemed way less then that in real use and was useless to me.
2) It's heavy for use as a tablet. To be fair, it's not a tablet. It's a PC, and a very good one, but if you are buying it to use mainly as a tablet, I don't think you will like it.
3) The accessories are WAY overpriced. $80 for a second power adapter is crazy.
Pros:
1) It' fast both processing and booting up
2) The screen is very clear.
3) The touch is accurate and smooth.
4) The size makes it easy to transport. At home I have a "Plugable USB docking station". Using the one USB port on the Surface, I have a 23" monitor, a real mouse and keyboard. It's a very nice desktop setup.
I have no regrets.
As I said, it's not perfect, but nothing will be. It does everything I hoped it would do. I just wish it had even close to the advertised battery life.

This is a very nice tablet. Adjusting to windows 8 is a challenge. If you take it where the wifi signal is weak it hangs a lot. Needs more apps.

I'm excited to have this product, but is difficult and very time consuming to set up. Looking forward to more use but still having a tough time, almost think I need a class. Already had tech help, but have a long way to go to feeling comfortable. Very expensive computer with all the add ons, word, mouse, keyboard, case...yikes much more than anticipated. Would recommmend this product but be patient.

My everyday device, all day

The 256gb Surface Pro 2 has 8 gb of ram installed, with a 4th gen (Harwell) i5 processor. This device lasts for me about 7 hours on a charge, while performing multiple complex computer tasks simultaneously.
I have installed on this device full versions of Office, OneNote, PhotoShop, and many others. Each of these performs flawlessly on this device. I enjoy being able to use my digitizer pen to add notes, or to perform delicate photo edits.
Video quality is full HD, and the sound quality of the SP2 is far better than in the first generation.
Interaction with SkyDrive is seamless. It is possible to segregate "public" and "private" data, so you can choose that which you wish to send to the cloud for backup, and that which you could back up to an SD card or external hard drive. I just back up everything in SkyDrive.
The Type2 cover is backlit, comfortable to use, and allows me to type as quickly as I can on any computer keyboard. I am a big guy, and don't feel cramped by the size of the keyboard at all.
Are there downsides to the SP2? You can find all sorts of negative comments in reviews, but in my opinion most of these simply come down to a matter of taste. Is the Surface too big and "clunky"? Actually it is quite svelte compared to other full-featured computers. Is Windows 8.1 a pain in the behind? Not at all, once you get used to it. In fact, I rather like Windows 8.1 #I may be the only person in the world to admit that publicly#. This machine can run all Android apps using an emulator program, but of course it does not have access to Apple apps.
All in all, if you are looking for a small computer that can do everything you need for work or play, this one is it.

Purchased this item with the $600 discount recently. What a great deal that is for what you are getting. I already own a Surface 3 and I needed to "cheaper" laptop for work. I ended up picking up the Surface 2 and a power cover and now my work computer has better specs than my surface 3!. Aside from the 10.6 inch screen, there is nothing about this laptop that is outdated (considering it was produced in 2013). It has a super fast processor, 8gb of Ram which feels more like 12 or 16 on other laptops, and a nice quick 256gb SSD. Boot times are fast, graphics are pretty good, and the pen is far nicer than the surface 3 pen imo. The only problem is that I am so used to the thinness of the surface 3 that the pro 2 feels really heavy in comparison.

This is by far the best computer/tablet that I know of. Prior to this I was using basic 400-550 dollar laptops that could just "Do the job" for college. This time I went over the top and got a surface pro 2. First off the difference was spectacular. The UI loaded in under half the time it took for my prior laptop that was over twice the size! That just blew me away. Another thing is that the screen is the perfect size for how small this darn thing is. What made this this laptop for me is how clear the screen is. I am a computer scientist, so when I code I must use a text editor. The screen doesn't blow the words up to where its unbearable. So splitting the screen is actually do-able (A picture of what I mean is below )
I could say more but this review would be ages long. So to sum it up I will just say, "THIS IS WORTH THE MONEY!" If you are considering getting a newer laptop but are tired of having issues with it breaking all the time, the surface pro 2 is perfect for you. ( BONUS: It is small! :D )

Eliminated PC, iPad, and Console

I was able to give up my laptop, iPad, and Xbox 360. I can work on it like a PC and then take it with me upstairs and use it like an iPad. Only now I can use FLASH. The Stylus is very rewarding. I can also keep my children away from Xbox Games buy keeping the control on my Surface Pro 2. I think the 256 version is the sweet spot. I could not be happier. I like Apple as well but I looked at the options at the same price and they just didn't fill the same space the Surface Pro 2 fills. I did not like hopping devices all the time. Now I can take my PC, IPad, and Console with me wherever I ago. It resets like an appliance too. No more Windows installs from a bootable DVD.

I visited the St. Pete store looking to purchase a new computer for work and personal use. I currently own a ThinkPad X1Carbon and a Retina Macbook Pro 15.6, which are in my opinion, two of the best computers I have ever owned, but I want something more portable and not the ordinary run-of-the-mill.
Walking into BestBuy, I was not too impressed with their selection of premium computers. The only device that caught my attention was the Surface Pro 2, after consulting with the Microsoft Specialist at the store, she reassured me that the Surface Pro 2 256gb with 8GB Ram would be the perfect device to suit my needs. The specialist took the time to demo the product to me and answered all of my questions, she was friendly, welcoming, and extremely knowledgeable.
After holding the Surface Pro 2, the build quality is incredibly solid and light (two pounds is NOT heavy, my 18 month old daughter holds the Surface Pro 2 comfortable while playing FREE games from the Windows Store--- yes, folks, there are PLENTY of apps within the Windows Store).
In my line of work, as a consultant for Lockheed Martin, my work requires me to travel often so I need speed, power, and great battery life. I can promise you, folks, the Surface Pro 2 delivers everything you could possibly want in a tablet pc---even if the Surface Pro 2 does not make my coffee, I still approve of its superior quality. Bravo to Microsoft for integrating software and hardware perfectly.

Best Tech Device In a While

Working in IT, I see a lot of gadgets. People always ask, what should I get, what's the new great product, what would you get?
This. The Surface 2 Pro is amazing. I have it fully loaded with all my business applications, fun apps, etch, and have no issues. The form factor makes it a pleasure to use no matter what. I carry it around like a tablet, no complaints on the weight. I use it like a laptop at work, no complaints there either.
The internet is full of haters just because. If everyone could just chill out and love a single product, this might be it. I see bashing on performance... UH, WHAT LAPTOPS DO YOU USE? This has plenty of power for daily computing. Gaming, naa, but everything else, yes. It's not fair to compare this to a dedicated gaming machine.
Pound for pound, this is the clear winner on the market right now. No competition in this market. I had a standard and mini IPAD, but they are now just coasters on the coffee table.
Only con... price I guess. This model is $1300. When you consider what it is, that's not bad at all. But most people have trouble looking past it since it is more tablet in shape/size.
Also, works amazingly with the docking accessory, type keyboard, and the included stylus.
Get it.

I loved my SP 128 which had replaced my 7.5 lb laptop but when they came out with the SP 2, 256, I traded up and got 200 gb OneDrive and Skype as a bonus. Also it has 8 gb internal memory, great battery life and it’s fast! This is the perfect traveling system on my trips to Japan and hunting/fishing trips out west! It runs all my Windows applications: OneNote, Outlook, Photo Shop Elements and mapping software. On long flights or at the lodge I can handle business, travel arrangements or catch up on email. When it’s time to relax I watch videos or show photo slide shows from external SSD, flash drive or DVD. After a day in the field I process any photos and videos from that day then use my mapping software and/or Google Earth to work out details of the next day’s outing. Others have complained about the weight but considering that I wanted a lightweight, compact and fast laptop (not a tablet which I have no use for right now) the Surface Pro has been perfect for me.

Surface Pro 2 is the Real Deal

I am a professional engineer, equipment tester and reviewer and I am thoroughly surprised by the Microsoft Surface. It is hands-down one of the best purchases I've made in the past year for electronic devices.
I own numerous testing devices, including the HP Touchpad (its actually not that bad), Blackberry Playbook, Apple iPad, Galaxy 3 Tab, Toshiba Excite, Nexus 7 and an ASUS Transformer.
I've made numerous comments and reviews and my overall take on tablets and devices is that Google devices are nice to have, but Apple products are more reliable, faster and easier to use. However, I now have to give the reigns and rights to Microsoft for the Surface Pro 2.
If you are NOT a windows 8 user, the learning curve should take no longer than 1 day, maximum. If you are, it works amazingly well. The typepad is amazing and the magnetic connection is so powerful it literally snaps itself into place without having to look where you are placing it. I will say though, Incipio sells the only hardshell case to cover the exterior of the unit which causes three issues that irritate me:
1.) The incipio feather shell blocks the touchpad from fully closing the way it should
2.) The incipio feather shell completely prevents the Stylus from being able to lock into the charger port.
3.) The incipio magnets that make a connection with the kickstand tend to fall out. I had to have it replaced twice before I just krazy-glued them back in myself. I reported this common failure to the manufacturer.
I still use the case, because there's pretty much no option other than browsing Amazon's collection of 3rd party cases. I al
I've restarted the Surface pro 2 numerous times and found the average startup time to be around 8-9 seconds, which is very impressive. I am a heavy gamer and am proud to say that it runs games very smoothly, albeit to the loss of battery life. It runs League of Legends on very high with 30fps, with 24 frames per second the lowest I've seen.
As a mouse recommendation, I don't recommend the microsoft bluetooth mouse. I recommend the logitech MX anywhere mouse because it uses a small usb dongle that doesn't protrude much from the device but enables you to use the mouse on glass and reflective surfaces.
For usability, it is incredible. There's significantly less "apps" than iOS and Google devices have, but the full scale functionality for business and home users makes this device amazing. It runs full scale office, and since it has full function browsers it allows you to watch hulu unrestricted, unlike other mobile devices (one of my biggest frustrations with the iPad and Google Devices). It is incredibly fast and I absolutely love the large hard drive size to store all of my movies and games.
One complaint I hear that annoys me is the complaint about weight. The Surface PRO is not an iPad or purely mobile device competitor. It is in a league of its own because it does BOTH, and does it well. For example, CNET, Gizmodo and most other websites have terrible writers because they are saying its too heavy to hold. Anyone that understands physics would know that holding the device from the bottom applies the most torque. If you hold the device from the middle or higher in portrait (for reading), it is barely noticeable. If it is too heavy, the problem is how frail and weak users are becoming. Weak users need to go to the gym and lift some weights. If you can lift 20lbs, you can comfortably hold the unit in the proper position. For women, holding the device from the middle will easily help with the weight. However, one handed would make the device hard to hold because of the torque again, so it is meant to be held with two hands or with one while the device is resting on a platform of some type.
As for sound, its pretty good for how small the device is. It is comparable to all mobile devices of this size. I pair it with my bluetooth Beats Pill when I want to get a full audio experience.
All in all, the surface pro 2 is a fast and useful tool that I have not even touched the rest of the benefits. In terms of cost, I do believe the keyboard should be cheaper, but the device's capability versus its cost is justified and is worth the purchase. Students would find this computer to be the all in one best purchase for college. You can game it up for common MMORPGS and you can do homework with awesome performance.
Of note, don't even try to run a full version of AutoCAD on it. I tried, and it can get very slow if you go beyond basic 2D layouts. Sketchup runs fine in 2D as well and with 3D until you get too large.
The dock is a great purchase and is absolutely essential for converting this into a desktop when you get home.
Pick one up. You won't regret it.

When you need something more powerful than an iPad

Coming off my original Surface, there are several minor changes to the Surface 2. The shell is actually darker, and the finish is just mildly different (and darker) than the O.G. VaporMg. Feels faster, and Windows 8.1 has improved usability. Found myself using the second stage of the kick stand a lot. I just wished it reclined more for writing.
I take a lot of notes and annotating PDFs with the active pen is a much more elegant solution than the writing-with-crayons feel a capacitive stylus on my iPad produces.
Eagerly awaiting the dock. With a large screen, keyboard and mouse, it makes a surprisingly good desktop replacement. Except I can pick it up any time and play Steam games on the road.
The new backlit Type keyboard is leaps and bounds better than the previous version - especially in typing feel. Backlighting really does a lot to make it feel like a premium product.
Also, Surfaces fit much better on airplane tray tables than my 15" MBP with retina. Along with the power, the productivity, and the extended active lifespan, it makes this device my go-to companion when I travel.

At first I didn't like this at all--I was used to a real laptop, and the flexible keyboard made it seem flimsy. But after giving it a second try, I love it! All the options--from pen, to tablet, to keyboard, on a fast computer with a great screen. Battery is fine, and starts up real fast.
All in all, near perfect. I'm sure future models will be lighter, etc. but this is definitelyt worth having now. Some glitches (for example, for MSN games to work you have to uncheck the "compatibility view" settings on IE), but nothing I couldn't fix. And, finally, the free 2 yrs 200 gb on Sky/One Drive are a great bonus.

Microsoft has produced a serious PC that doubles as a portable Tablet. With the 256gb of internal memory, USB port options, a blazing i5 processor, this is a serious business machine. I find that I can run any and all of my PC programs on this device. The processing speed is beyond any tablet I have used and note that it is a true full-blown PC, not a watered down one. This is a serious tool for any business person and a fantastic computer for anyone wanting a PC. I would recommend that you go and see this in the store and get a feel for the size, weight, etc. and see if it is for you. I love mine!

Amazing product for my Work

I am blown away. Being a medical professional, my biggest gripe was going into patients rooms with a piece of paper with reports from hours earlier or a tablet with zero operability. Electronic medical record software is very complex and can never be worthwhile or efficient on a tablet. Also, most of these software systems are on a virtual server, and there is no security of data on IOS and Android.
Enter the Surface Pro2.
Just connect it to my hospitals Wifi, start our hospitals medical record software, and round on my patients with real-time data in my hand, and make decisions and orders on at bedside using the surface pro 2 and the microsoft pen. Otherwise ample amounts of time used to be wasted in leaving the patients room, opening up a desktop computer, logging in and putting/reviewing orders and labs and going back in. Chart reviews and reading up on articles on the split screen feature while i walk from one end of the hospital to another has been pretty interesting too.
Medical lectures are a breeze. I just open up onenote and jot down my notes in handwritten text, which is more comfortable for me to review later. Reading journals, along with the mircomedex + uptodate apps are pretty good too.
In all, I have never been so efficient.
The battery pulls in ~ 8 hours on a typical work day which is enough for me.
Highly recommended,
