Customers are saying

Customers are positive about the battery life, portability, RAM, size, touchscreen, and storage of this product, with many praising its performance and ease of use. However, some customers expressed concerns regarding the weight, finding it too heavy for extended use as a tablet. The app selection was also cited as an area needing improvement. Overall, the positive feedback on key features outweighs the negative comments.

    Great Product!

I have a Surface Pro 2 that I use for work when I am on the road and I really like it! Because it is a little on the small side when compared to a traditional laptop, it took a couple of uses to get used to a smaller keyboard. But it's fun to use the touch screen whenever you feel like it! I mostly use it for Microsoft Office 365 and Internet browsing (email). However, the split screen functionality is a cool feature! It does get a bit warm on the bottom if you use it for a long period of time, but I haven't had any issues with mine and I've had it for over a year. I get asked about it just about every time I'm using it in public. As far as tablets go, this is hands-down one of the best ones to use for work purposes.

I did not know truly what to expect from the Surface 2 Pro - we were in the market for a laptop for my wife, and were leaning toward the MacBook Air. We currently have a Mac, a Lenovo laptop, two iPads, two Kindle Fires, four iPhones, and an old HP desktop (if 2007 is "old"). So, we can operate in any OS environment. The Surface 2 Pro 256gb, 8GB Ram is the perfect "do it all" machine - this is a full blown ultrabook, with a GREAT keyboard (Type 2 Cover is the only way to go, and it is impressive), touch navigation, and huge computing power. Yes, it's a bit expensive, but it is a full blown product, not an entertainment device like the iPad/Kindle HDX.

I preordered the SP2 (Surface pro 2, 256 GB) almost a month before the release date (Oct 21st), It arrived on the 22nd. When I woke up today more than 2 weeks later, I was still giddy with (Christmas level) anticipation to use this product. I love this product! I use SP2 at my desk with an external monitor and mouse for large graphics creation and editing; I sit on the couch and write web code and surf the web on it as a laptop; and I use SP2 lay in bed and watch YouTube and Netflix on it as a tablet. When it comes to windows 8.1, I find myself wanting to use metro style apps more than legacy programs. Keep in mind that I have been using windows 8.0+ for almost 13 months (3700 hours), so I have definitely already acclimated to the “Modern” OS.

I've had my Surface 2 Pro for a year now and it has been an outstand timesaver for me. It was great to be able to transition from a tablet and a tower to one device that could do it all.

For me it IS laptop replacement

Sweet Device. Great job Microsoft. For me this is a laptop replacement. In my job I do a lot of training of customers using powerpoint. I have tried using an iPad and was not very satisfied using it. When reformatting the presentations to show on the ipad they looked cheap. Also when trying to use slideshark, or even the office for iPad the videos I had with the presentations did not work well. The surface pro is seemless for my presentations, portable etc...also its a great little "home theater" when on the road. Just hook up a portable hard drive, my portable powerpoint projector and speakers clear off wall space in my hotel and voila I have my "theater". Granted I could do that with my iPad too but this way I don't have to wait for hours to download movies from iTunes. The device has most of the apps I would use for work and pleasure so it not only is a laptop replacement but an iPad replacement as well. Skydrive is great as well.

Great tablet that works for both business and personal use. Can't really use my iPad except for consumption of entertainment and personal matters. The Surface 2 Pro gets it all right for what I need in a tablet and is now my device of choice.

Excellent device - Errant BB Specs

    Posted .

As with the Best Buy specs of the 512GB version, the 256GB version incorrectly states that it comes with 4GB of RAM, when in fact it actually comes with 8GB of RAM. This was confirmed by MS who indicated they would prod BB to fix it on their website... but it is STILL in error. The 256GB and 512GB versions come with 8GB of RAM (not the 4GB stated in BB's spec pages for the units.)

    Great Concept; Buggy Device

The long and short is, I got a lemon. Right out of the box, I had trouble using the MS type cover with the Surface. Waking out of sleep mode, sometimes the track pad and/or keyboard wouldn't work. Often a reboot was necessary. I spent many hours with MS tech support. Each representative was professional and courteous, but had to work the through the decision and repair tree. Finally, after a replacement keyboard didn't work, I was instructed to do a complete system reset. MS updates wouldn't load afterwards. THAT had to be resolved. Next came a system refresh, but -surprise!- the trackpad didn't work. MS is sending a replacement. I would guess I spent 16 to 20 hours troubleshooting the problems. The replacement unit is going to be great, right? Oh, and did I mention I had to return a faulty power cord and transformer for replacement?

Ordered a new one during a sale, got a refurbished one that doesn't even turn on. Now I have to march my happy butt into the store and complain loud enough. I'm express shipping and one screen saver in the hole.
