The Surface Pro 3 is light and has a sleek design. The fan is very quiet even in library setting unless you have your ear next to the vent openings. Built in kickstand is sturdy and great for various viewing angle adjustments. Boot time from complete shutdown to desktop is about 13 seconds. I dont see much slow down with my streaming videos, web browsing, and working Microsoft Office 2013 like Word, Point Power, or some Excel. Opening Edge take about 1 second. Opening Firefox take about 2.5 seconds. Microsoft Office programs take about 3.5 seconds to open. I have the screen set at 40% brightness because 100% is more for outdoor use. I have been using the Type Cover designed for the Surface Pro 4 and it is way better then the Surface Pro 3 keyboard because the keys are spread out more and it has a deeper key travel. The Type Cover does extend about several millimeter over the screen edge on both sides. Flipping the Type Cover to the back of the Surface Pro 3 will disable its functions. Battery life is about 6 hours and 40 minutes on run down until 10% battery life with Balance mode, brightness set at 40%, and web browsing with Edge (6 tabs opened) and Word opened. Note: My unit had a dead CMOS battery that would stop my Surface from keeping tracking of the time and date when it was completely shutdown. I had to send it to Microsoft for fixing.

I got my Surface Pro 3 just before Christmas and I really like it. I read all the reviews... lots of love and lots of hate. I had actually talked myself out of getting a SP3 and was going to just go with a small flip laptop. But when I went to Best Buy to purchase, the Geek convinced me that this was a better machine. After using my SP3 for a few weeks, I have to admit that I am glad I went with it. I had to order an external CD/DVD drive - which I would of had to do with the laptop I was looking at anyway. I haven't purchased the pen yet...I thought I would use my points to get it. Every once in a while there seems to be a bit of a glitch... it won't recognize touch OR the keyboard, but if I just turn it off and back on it goes to working. if it continues I may call the Best Buy Geeks and see what they recommend. I am still getting used to Windows 10 - but so far I love it. I just installed Office Professional Plus 2016 and uninstalled the "Free for a month 365". I do a lot of documents for work and personal, I am a scrap-booker and I just received a Silhouette - Cameo for Christmas - so I am kind of crafty too. i love that you can set it up at a desk and use it just like a computer... or you just grab it and use it like a tablet to check emails and Facebook.

    Great and versatile machine

Fantastic machine in my opinion. It's meant for someone who wants something to replace a laptop, tablet, and potentially a desktop. For my use I already have a powerful desktop so I only needed this for light web browsing, streaming movies, and mild productivity apps like annotating PDFS and MSFT Office. Works perfectly for that. It doesn't really get that hot and the fan only comes on if I stream movies for a while and even then it's just kind of a whisper. I think the i3 model is perfect for my use and since it's an 11W part it consumes less power and doesn't get as hot as the i5/i7 models. You won't get the same throttling or heat and fan issues as the i5/i7 models either. Keep in mind battery life between the SP4 and SP3 are about the same, I'm getting probably 7 hours. Do yourself a favor and get the new type cover and pen for it as well. I was considering getting the SP4 m3 but I got this instead for $499 ($599 - $100 EDU coupon) and couldn't be happier with the performance, versatility, and money saved.

    Very disappointed

I've only had the surface pro for 5 months and a whole host of problems have occurred. I'm not sure if the problems are due to the Windows 10 upgrade or due to the surface pro itself, but it has been an endless headache using this tablet. For one, the touchscreen starting getting so crazy and unfixable (phantom touch I believe it's called) that I had to turn if off altogether. I followed all the common directions for fixing it (ie restarting, downloading drivers, downloading updates, etc.) but nothing worked. Shortly after I "fixed" my touchscreen problem, my tablet's network adapter driver stopped working. Now I can't even get online to download the drivers my tablet needs to regain functionality. I'm not sure if this problem can ever be fixed, as I'm stuck in a perpetual circle of issues. If I had known this tablet would grow to have so many problems (once again perhaps it's related to upgrading to windows 10 but I'm not sure), I would not have spent so much money purchasing it. Definitely would not do again.

    Upgrading from Surface RT

I purchased a surface RT an few years back on a trip to Hawaii so I could upload all my DSLR family photos to it and do some minor photo editing then post them on social media. I really like that the RT was small and portable and did most of the things I needed it to do, but I wanted to upgrade to a more power unit. At first I was going to get the surface 3, but after comparing the surface 3 to the pro 3, It was hands down that the pro 3 was better for me. The Pro 3 has better processor, slightly larger screen and runs Windows 10 Pro compared to Windows 10 home edition. Like I stated earlier I like to dabble in photography and wanted to start utilizing a better photo editing program. This laptop/tablet can handle it with no issues. Switching from desktop to tablet mode is flawless. Although I primarily use the desktop mode most of the time. The only cons I have for this and any surface product is that you have to purchase the keyboard separately and this particular model didn't come with the pen (an awesome tool to have) which I also had to purchase separately. I also do wish that they would have kept the charging port the same as the surface 3 instead of going with the proprietary type charging unit.

Just bought the Surface Pro3 and I am very pleased with it - honestly I didn't really believe I would like it much. But after a few days of heavy use, the device has been awesome. Best features - Screen quality/brightness, battery life, Windows 10 true no compromise usability (I am also an iPad User), the new keyboard cover with fingerprint sensor and backlight. Performance has been very good, no lag or other weird windows type issues to deal with so far. Suggestions for improvement - Ugh the power brick!! I hate it - really microsoft its 2015, please get rid of it. Also I am not a fan of the so-called magnesium case - its not too heavy but it just feels and looks dated. Overall for $599 the Surface Pro3 is a great product, it has replaced my iPad and android tablets and I dont regret it at all.

As someone who used to be an engineer for the aerospace industry, makes me appreciate that Microsoft doesn't build airplanes or makes safety products. i'm warming up to my SP3, but this product has annoying bugs. I was instantly impressed with the look-feel, but only to be disappointed with my first experience with a computer flat out lying to me. It said I was logged into my 5 Ghz wifi network, and everything should work, but I couldn't access the internet. 8 hours later after tech call and updates, it worked. Then the pen, beautifully made, goes out of whack after couple of days of use. I have to delete the old cal data, and recalibrate, so I can start apps in taskbar and not open some random app while trying to change volume, If you don't mind the little bugs, this machine is really on a class of its own, sleek, beautiful, powerful, and portable. And yes, I consider having to buy type cover for $129, separately, as one of those annoying bugs (I bought a slightly used one in Amazon for less than half the price).

I got this tablet primarily as a note taking device to use with a stylus. Coming from years of using Macs, it was quite an adjustment. Apple products simply work right out of the box with minimal setup. The same is not true of PC. And Windows 10 is confusing and inconsistent. However, aside from my gripes about Windows, the SP3 works fine for me. My only issue is that my palm constantly sets off the icons at the bottom bar of the screen, which is annoying when I'm trying to take notes and I have to stop mid-flow to close the calendar or keyboard window that pops up by mistake. It's entirely possible that there's an overlooked setting that I can change to keep this from happening, but I haven't found it yet. I liked that this model didn't include a surface pen, as I purchased the surface 4 pen anyway, along with the surface 4 keyboard. Those two accessories are far superior to the SP3 versions, IMO, and well worth the investment.

Being fond of Windows XP, I've been extremely reluctant to get anything newer than a Windows 7. I've never liked Windows 8 or 8.1, but I was able to give the Surface Pro 3 with Windows 10 at Best Buy and found it really easy to navigate through. I'm small so I really love the size and how lightweight it is. Although I don't much care for tablets, I've found using it in tablet mode to be convenient at times. I mostly use it as a laptop, though, with the type cover perpetually attached it. I also like the charger and its port, how it's magnetized and doesn't really plug in. I've gotten my foot stuck in the cable a couple times, and instead of the charger yanking on the laptop or unplugging violently, it just comes off gently. The battery life is great, too. All in all, I've come to really love my Surface Pro. I bought it hoping it'd just be something that would last me for a few years without it dying on me, but it's great, and I don't even use my desktop computer anymore.

This is a replacement for a tablet and the primary user is not too computer savvy (yet). So while there is an obvious learning curve when jumping to Windows 10 tablet OS from a Samsung tablet, things have so far been intuitive--even for someone who doesn't typically work with computers. That said, a non-computer user will need someone around to help on occasion as they come up to speed--especially during initial setup. (Why does Microsoft insist on tricking people into thinking they *have* to do things that hand over control to them?!? It might be helpful when you know what to expect and know or are told more before you proceed but hard to recover from when you find out later you didn't have to--and didn't want to--set things up the way they "suggest"/tell you...) Anyhow, touch and optional keyboard work great and the image quality and responsiveness in tablet mode meet expectations. Overall, I'd say we did good when we decided to go with the Surface Pro 3.

I bought the Surface Pro 3 a few weeks ago and overall am very satisfied with it. I haven't owned a computer similar to this, so I don't have anything to compare it to. I think I'm safe to say that it fills the needs for a laptop better than it has as a tablet. With it being Windows OS, it isn't as user friendly in tablet mode as an Ipad for example. This could be a plus though for some people. If I had to come up with a complaint, it would be that it has too many functions in tablet mode. (Some complaint, huh?) However, I don't use it as a tablet much anyways. Mainly in tablet mode I use it as an e-reader and watch Netflix. (By the way, the display of the screen is amazing by my standards.) I am not taking anything away from the product, because I think it is very solid and worth the money. It allows me to bring it to school to take notes on, write papers and fills all of my other needs without being as bulky as a "traditional" laptop.

I was initially very excited about my purchase of the Microsoft Surface Pro but I have had a few problems that have dampened my experience. I have had some Freezing issues just internet browsing. There have been some app problems as well but usually removing the app and redownloading has fixed the issue. There's an issue that occurs frequently swapping between tablet and regular mode. After being in Tablet mode, my arrow does not reappear after reasserting my keyboard. There has also been an issue with WIFI signal Strength. I have full WIFI signal on my laptop in my bedroom but there has been some connection issues with my surface. I was a little surprised that the battery life does not last as long as I was expecting either. These issues were somewhat disappointing, however, I enjoy the Surface and I'm glad I bought it for college and pleasure. It's very handy and portable.

Wanted to try something new as I've been in the Apple ecosystem for far too long. Purchased the tablet w/o the pen or the type cover case and have been so impressed with the versatility of the device that I will probably grab those as well to see how much (more) depth they provide. Does everything my old iPad did and more. Only real problem is that their App store is lacking. However, since it is both a tablet and a laptop, you can either use the internet to provide what you might need (HBO GO comes to mind) or you can download the application you are looking for in Laptop mode and create your own Pin to appear in Tablet mode.

I aggressively shopped for a Surface Pro 3 after the launch of the 4. I wanted to have one of these for the longest time, and I did not see a huge difference in the 4 vs. 3. I felt that I needed the i5 version. After shopping for some time, I found that the difference would be about $200 to upgrade. I weighed that against my usage (Netflix, email, web mostly) and decided to save the $200 and go for the i3 version. I am thrilled at the performance for my needs. Beautiful resolution, quick response, and the ability to multitask. I regularly have 4 to 6 programs running simultaneously with no issues. The ability to use it like a tablet or a full service laptop is amazing. No trouble finding network resources or printing. This is my "go to" computer. 5 stars because I cannot find a single thing to complain about.

    Battery could be better

Battery life could be better. The charger magnets into place so that the charging port can't be broken from yanking the cord out, which is nice. There are currently no power cords with a male usb on wall end, so you can't charge with a usb only battery pack (like the pocket juice). The charger only plugs directly into the wall. Those cons arent a huge deal to me. It holds up nicely to my pretty hefty use in college classes. I highly recommend getting microsoft office, OneNote runs beautifully. Also, having a full operating system (and not having to deal with the "mobile version" of websites)makes this truly worth the money. This is the perfect tool for any college student, you can easily switch between typing (when you buy the keyboard) an essay and handwriting notes. Its the only thing i carry to my classes.

I'm not going to go into technical garbage in a review. Face it, as soon as I bought it, it was out dated by something newer. That's technology. This is a tool and it serves a purpose. My kids have had tablets for years, both Samsung Galaxy's. Our laptops were old and slow from kids downloading too much unwanted stuff. I wanted to try a touch screen type device which was larger than our phones, but didn't want Apple. Surface seems to be perfect. I get to do my normal computer work I'm used too and my wife gets her large tablet. I'm not a fan of Windows 10, but I also don't like change. Just give me XP and I'll be happier. We got the keyboard to go with the surface and it is a must for me. I don't like onscreen keyboards. What can I say, it's a laptop and a tablet. It's what this simple boy wanted.

As an ITmajor and a gamer I'm not used to a PC this slow. however, it is quite fast for such a small PC. It out-performs so me desktops I have. I got this solely for school. I grew tired of lugging a 17 inch, 12 pound laptop to school. this has enough power to do what I need it to do, as well as other things. It streams full, uncompressed, HD movies, with HD audio from my Plex server with no problems. The picture is quite awesome, as is the sound. FL Studio runs well, too. I've run an NES & snes emulators that played great! I've not yet tried a Wii or PS2 emulator. Nor have I tried any "real" games on it. The handwriting recognition on this is pretty sweet, too. I wrote this entire review with the pen. In short, this is the perfect supplement for my other rigs and moreover it's perfect to school.

Great replacement for laptops. I bought this to replace our old laptop. I had been wanting one for a while and when Best Buy put it on sale for $599, I knew it was time. Had to buy the pen extra (got it for $20 on clearance elsewhere) and keyboard, but that's ok. Great machine. It is faster than I expected for an i3 processor. Starts up in about 15-20 seconds and is ready to go. Lot's of great features and I am still discovering more. This is better than expected and a great laptop replacement. No regrets buying this machine. Buy the Pro 3 version (not the 4) while you can if you are not sure and you'll save about $300 for the same basic model.

I purchased a new Surface Pro 3 128k, I've had it for about 1 year now. About 2 months after I bought I had to replace the entire tablet under warranty with another one because they couldn't figure out how to fix it. After about 9 months the keyboard went on the fritz, keys aren't responding or getting doubled up. Went to the local Microsoft service center and they more or less told me, tough luck live with it..!! Overall I wouldn't buy or recommend this to my worst enemy..!! For the price I paid with all the extras, docking station, mouse, etc I feel I just wasted my money. I've owned many computers in my lifetime and I've never come across keyboard issues like I have with this one. There's no recourse any longer other than to live with this flop..!!

This is my 2nd Surface Pro 3 from Best Buy. The first one was defective and had to be returned. It wouldn't keep the correct time once I powered off. So far, I have had no problems with this unit. I bought a case so I could use it easily on my lap when sitting on the couch. This unit has been perfect for my needs. I am not a huge power user. I'm still getting used to Windows 10. I have not used the camera yet. I've had no problems using the SD card and the USB port. I bought the Pro 4 keyboard to use and love it. With the case added, it is noticeably heavier than my Kindle Fire, but considerably lighter than my laptop. I am able to do all the functions on this device that I previously did on my laptop. I am extremely satisfied with this product!
