To preface this, I use this primarily for school and personal use but I also use it at my job. I work as a clerk/courier at a law firm. I love it. I had a Dell Venue Pro 11 about for about 2 weeks because it seemed like a cheaper alternative. It was cheaper but it was horrible. I returned it and bought this and I have nothing but praise for it.Amazing product from Microsoft. This is the first tablet that can actually replace a laptop AND a desktop (with the proper accessories). Although you have to pay a hefty price for these accessories. - Dock: $179 - Pro Keyboard Cover: $129 - Necessary Wires: ~$40 The screen is gorgeous. It really is startlingly beautiful when you get have a wallpaper with the proper resolution. Pictures look great. Very useful for editing pictures. The stylus is paramount. It makes this possibly hard-to-adjust-to tablet into a perfect replacement. The stylus is perfectly responsive and writes just like a pen. This makes short note taking very easy and useful. Now the bad things: It is very expensive and all the accessories are expensive as well. But anything cheaper does not even compare so it is ultimately worth the price. You gotta pay to play. It is tad bit glitchy as far as the Bluetooth and some keyboard issues but it's very minimal and doesn't change how wonderful it is. The wifi also had some issues in the beginning but I believe there have been updates that fixed these issues. Also the sound is pretty bad because the built in stereo speakers are awful and not too loud. Just buy it...

I was really debating on whether to purchase a used surface pro 2 or to get the cheapest SP3. I primarily wanted something to use for school. My previous device was the Asus T100 32gb, which could get 11 hours on battery. This Surface Pro 3 does not match the battery life that I'm used to however the extra features easily make up for it. The i3 processor and Ssd easily trumps any Baytrail CPU win8.1 tablet out there and is not far off from the i5 in the surface pro 2 and 3. I first thought that the 64 GB was a little small but I lived with a 32gb device before so managing storage wasn't a big deal. Those things aside, the new features such as the improved kickstand and the larger screen are what made me choose this over a used SP2. I hated the 16:9 screen on my Asus tablet so I can see myself being frustrated with the Sp2 screen, not to mention I often set the kickstand on my sp3 at the lowest position so I could draw on it. The only con I can see is that I think the new digitizer for the stylus (nTrig) is a bit finicky, software wise. I'm used to my wagon intuos 5 at home and how it seamlessly integrates with all my creative programs. The sp3 requires some tweaking to use my programs (paint tool Sai, etc.) otherwise I don't really notice the difference between the Wacom and the sp3 inking. I'm using it without any type cover and so far it's not too bad but you kind of need it if you want to be productive. Summary: Pro's - screen, kickstand, form factor Cons - pen, no type cover included or discounted in the price, battery life is ehhhh

Since I returned the SP3, I'll keep my review short. There is no arguing... the SP3 is a wonder to hold and use. It's super light, fast and the screen is incredible. Well, unless your eyes are bad or you use any of Adobe's products. The issue here is the hi DPI screen and Microsoft's choice to use a 3:2 format rather than a 16:9. The hi DPI causes major issues with Photoshop due to it containing a lot of legacy code. It cannot scale the UI elements and menus which leaves pressing your nose against the screen. I have the same issue with Nightingale, my music player. There are work arounds for both but neither is for the faint of heart. The 3:2 causes issues in several areas. The first... for some odd reason MS decided NOT to include a 1:1 lower resolution to adjust the DPI of the screen?! By lowering the screen resolution you can improve the size of text and icons. However the only resolutions offered do not translate into a full screen and cause letter boxing. These are the black bars at the top and bottom of the screen. Also, if you plan on watching movies, same as above. Since most movies are recorded wide screen, You will end up with very large black bars at the top and bottom of the screen. I wanted to love this device but my needs just couldn't be met with it.

There are literally hundreds of tablets and laptops on the market, so it's very difficult to pick out the "best" one--until now. Due to Microsoft's attention to enhancing product development, they have finally struck perfect balance of the best-of-breed of tablet and laptop--the Surface Pro 3. I chose the Core i3 model due to the fact that I am not a business, but a heavy user of social media with light amounts of productivity. The form factor is perfect for portability--lightweight and multi-position kickstand. I use this device on my lap, on the kitchen counter while cooking and on my desktop as a full-fledged workstation. With all the ports anybody needs to have, a full-version of Windows OS, as well as a fantastic stylus, this tablet can take on Ultrabooks with ease. The system is buttery smooth and while I have only 27GB of free space left on the SDD, there is an expansion slot for additional media. Front-facing speakers and a high-Def display makes multimedia a pure joy. As a tablet, I have full access to all traditional Windows programs, Windows 8 modern apps and all Android apps #via BlueStacks#. That's impressive. While it was a little pricey, it is definitely worth every penny!

I have been using my Surface Pro 3 every day for about 2 months now. It has completely replaced my laptop and my tablet. I Purchased the dock and the keyboard and use this as my main workstation at work as well as on the road. Powerful enough to run full version of PhotoShop and some light gaming. (World of Warcraft on low settings). A few years ago it became normal for many users to replace an aging desktop computer with an equivalent laptop. I think the time has come now when most users will benefit more by replacing their main device with a Surface Pro 3. It truly is a full replacement for a work laptop. Better battery life, touch screen and pen integration make it a natural progression. Add a 128 Gb Micro-SD and use OneDrive or drop-box for virtually unlimited storage. My Surface Pro 3 is the best mobile computing tool I have owned to date. Great device and top shelf build quality make the Surface Pro 3 stand apart from other lower cost options. You get what you pay for, Microsoft has a winner this time.

I am a IT guy at a car dealership. When the service mgr told me he wanted to replace the notebooks we use to reprogram the car computer's I suggested these. I initially got 1 to test and it has worked great. Its mobile, light, has a normal usb port, and can run all our software packages while programming the cars that come in for service. Since then, we have bought another 5 and urban armour cases. They work fantastically. The mechanics love them. The 64g drive is kind of small, and the processor doesn't blaze. But serves its purpose for running small windows programs and compatible browsers. one of the only issue is the stylus. They have lost 2 of them already. Otherwise the tablets have held up and done a great job in the 6 months we have had them in the shop. The durability was a concern, but so far with the cases they are all still working well. Oh, another issue is its windows 8. But we knew that going in. Nobody likes 8, we just tolerate it. So if you have any business apps that require a real windows OS, but want something smaller than a laptop. This is it.

What can I say? I bought this system as an experiment for my job. It has worked so well that my company has made a corporate level decision to go with the Surface Pro 3 for ALL of their field service technicians. It runs every piece of software made for IBM PCs that we need to do our jobs. The ability to write directly into Excel is extraordinarily convenient and is a real time saver when on the job. The only drawback at this point is the scarcity of ruggedized accessories. So far, Incipio is the only one I have found. The next logical step should be a ruggedized type cover. None of the aforementioned is anything that should stop you from making this purchase, however. The battery life is impressive. I have gotten a full 6 hours out of it while streaming Netflix. I had an iPad previous to this and got nowhere near the functionality from it. Don't hesitate. Get this Now!

Excellent screen response and brightness. Excellent pen response even to the edge of the screen, my other tablets with Wacom didn't respond well near the edges. Excellent sound volume when I turn it all the way up the speakers don't distort or sound tinny. It powers my external HD at USB 3.0. It supports up to 128gb Micro SD card. I've yet to see this thing stutter. Zero Lag with anything I do with it. I use Office, OneNote, PhotoShop here and there, plenty of video streaming and Remote desktop use. I do some Audio Recording using Sony Acid Pro with no problems. Integrates lovely with my Windows phone Lumia 1520. Skype works perfect. I have only the 64gb but my micro SD makes up for that part. I bought the blue keyboard I like it but I feel the back of it may soon get dirty. the kick stand well what can I say but excellent. I use MS Visio on it for work and it's completely Amazing. Nothing but good things all the way around. I thought I was going to regret getting the i3 but nope I love it.

I am a first year college student and I was looking for a computer that would hopefully last all four years of my college career. I had researched the best computers for my situation as I am going for fashion design. I had read all the reviews of this surface and with a 4.7 star review out of 5 you would think it is a pretty good computer. I had bought it and brought it home with me and right off the bat it was much slower than I had expected. The boot up and sign in were very slow compared to my 6 and a half year old computer from Walmart, which is kind of sad to say. The on screen keyboard was also a problem. When you fist turn it on, you have to sign in but a lot of the times the keyboard would never show up for me to type in my password. The fact that I had to carry around a separate physical keyboard was also very annoying because I did not want to pay 150 dollars for the keyboard that you would think would come with it. The price is also very high which is a problem. I returned my surface and got a 180 dollar hp stream computer that works so much quicker and easier than this surface.

Great tablet when it works properly

I purchased the Surface Pro 3 i3 64GB model on Friday August 1, 2014. It setup easily, and worked great until Sunday August 3, 2014. I attempted to turn it on, and it wouldn't turn on. I plugged it in, and made sure it was properly charging. I let it charge for 8 hours, just to be sure that it was fully charged before its next use. I unplugged it, and tried to turn it on with no success. I found troubleshooting options on Microsoft's website, and completed all of them, and the tablet still wouldn't turn on. I plugged it back in, and let it charge all night. Monday August 4, 2014, I tried to turn it on, and it wouldn't turn on still. Four hours later, I pressed the power button 3 times repeatedly, and it finally turned on. Then I saw that there was a critical update that needed downloaded, but I couldn't download it because the network adapter wouldn't connect to my wireless network, even though it had before. I contacted Microsoft, and they advised me to send it to them or return/replace it through Best Buy. I will be doing that later today. When it did work, it worked great. I really enjoyed the tablet.

I purchased this for the start of the fall semester. I am returning to school and wanted a lightweight tablet/laptop that I could not only take notes on, but also do research and write papers on. The Surface Pro 3 is perfect. I can work when I need to and also play when I am between classes or just need a break. The keyboard takes some getting used to, and this is my first touchscreen computer, so I go back and forth quite a bit between those features. I always leave the keyboard attached as it helps protect the screen, but it detaches easily when I need to take it off. One complaint is that the power adapter is sort of heavy, and the way it plugs into the computer is by a magnetic plug. If you try and move it while it is plugged in the power cord pops out really easily due to the weight of the adapter pulling on the connection.

I could go on and on about the Surface Pro 3, but why bother when all I need to say is AMAZING! I was very skeptical about the tagline in the MS commercials when they say "the tablet that will replace your computer" but by God, I have replaced my IdeaPad with the SP3. I have the docking station, the ethernet-to-USB adapter, a Microsoft Surface Arc bluetooth mouse, the keyboard, and two monitors. When I have it docked, I actually have three monitors, as the SP3 display is a third monitor. I use the OneNote application with the SP3 pen to hand write notes at work all day long. Fantastic applications/software and device. If you are on the fence, and like me you have been wanting a tablet that will do everything that a laptop/desktop will, this is for you - just go buy it!

I have had my computer for a few months now and everything has been great! Except just two things. 1. Sometimes when I am trying to use it on my lap or in bed when I am on Skype, it is difficult to get it in the right position. Since it has only a kick stand and not a spring, there is a range of positions which you will most likely need and wont be able to make. Also, sometimes it freezes on me (maybe once a week or once every two weeks) and I need to turn it off and on and it's good after that. I have never lost any work over it, so it's not that bad :) Everything else about the computer has been amazing. I feel so lucky to have a full lap top and a tablet in one. Especially because it has a USB port (has been super useful for my camera, chargers, printers etc.!!) and when I go through the airport, I don't have to take it out of my bag! It is so nice to travel with. It fits in my brief case right between my books. I am so happy I made this purchase and hope it lasts for a very long time!

I am not a high tech person but after 8 years with my old MacBook it was finally time for a change. I couldn't upgrade the software anymore and couldn't access some sites. I looked at the new MacBook Air but it didn't WOW me. I tried out the Surface Pro and really loved it. I was up and running within about 10 minutes, transferred my files over from my MacBook and I haven't looked back. It is easy to use, it is fun to use, it looks super cool (with my purple keyboard). Took me about half an hour to get used to the keyboard which was a little smaller but I have no trouble using it now and I'm much more productive. It is much easier to take with me and it has a long battery. I would highly recommend to anyone.

I'd like to start by saying I've always been a Mac guy. How ever over the last year or so all my buddies have been saying that this product was gonna be microsofts saving grace. That it was gonna put them ahead of the game and snatch back consumers who'd switched to Apple. I was skeptical at first but after having seen the commercials and product reviews I was sold... Or more accurately duped. I bought it happily thinking that I finally had a real computer in the size of a tablet ! But just after a day of usage I soon realized that it was all hype and no substance. It was a great product in theory but it seems like Microsoft couldn't deliver the goods in a set up that actually worked. My main issues were frequent locking up with out any way to "shut down/ reboot" other than letting the battery drain out, poor battery life (thank goodness" and basic features being hidden away in the nightmare that is windows 8.1.whatever. I strongly recommend getting a desktop or if you just have to have something portable then just buy a iPad.

I originally bought a Surface because I was attending college, and I needed to bring my computer many places between school and the work field. It is definitely good for a college student, albeit one with a larger wallet. My first Surface had a battery issue, and I was provided a brand new one by Geek Squad for free. I had a few issues with this computer. One was the price. It is extremely pricey for a tablet computer, and there are plenty of better alternatives in the cost department. The second is that there are many things that this computer cannot handle. If you are a PC gamer or enjoy playing games, this computer is NOT for you. It cannot handle it and lags down your game speed. If you have some money to blow and like the idea of writing on your computer, than this is for you. Otherwise, find something a little more wallet friendly.

I bought this one for my wife when her Gateway laptop died. At first, she was hesitant to go with a Microsoft product, but I took her into Bestbuy and had her play around with the Surface Pro 3. I also had her play with the Samsung GALAXY Tablet and a few laptops. In the end, she reluctantly agreed that the Surface Pro 3 felt the best. It has been a month now and she uses the Surface like she was born with it. The pen it comes with is a wonderful addition, and it keeps fingerprints off the screen. She loves that she can write on the Surface using OneNote. The Surface is great for e-reading, surfing the web, and making Web purchases. Also, it's nice to be able to take it to the store with a recipe list, then bring home and use the recipe while the Surface is standing up in the kitchen. All-in-all, it's a great product and I will be buying another one for myself.

This certainly beats the heck out of the boat anchor I used to carry around when visiting clients. As an IT consultant I needed a device that not only could run the applications I needed it to run but also looked nice and was easy to carry around. As a OneNote junkie, being able to bring this into a conference room to write on has been a pleasant experience. I chose the i3 model because its really all I needed and I got a high quality 64GB microSD card for it. Microsoft knocked it out of the park, I guess the third time is a charm. With Windows 10 on the horizon, it only makes the investment into one of these devices so much better. Sure, the keyboard is separate but its certainly worth the price of admission. The Surface Pro 3 is a tablet for adults who get things done. It makes all those lesser tablets look like children's toys.

I barely bought the Surface Pro 3 a month ago and so far, it's alright. I mean, I don't know all it's functions yet, so maybe that's why I'm not as excited as I should be. Of course, there are pros and cons to this Surface: Pros- Excellent email synching (Now I don't have to log into all my emails every time). Awesome art sketching (My little sister can now paint). And Sudoku is available! Cons- The battery runs out too quickly. I have to recharge constantly every 3 hours. I just had to deal with a virus two days ago, and I somehow got rid of it (I hope it doesn't happen again or else I would be unsatisfied). Microsoft Office doesn't come with it, and that's a bummer. And you have to buy the keyboard separately. All in all, the Surface Pro 3 is just a regular laptop/tablet. I'm still in high school, so maybe I don't need all the functions yet. I will maybe appreciate the Surface once I get into college, but for now, these are my thoughts.

I have been fooled 3 times now into following the release of newer versions of Surface. I had tried to explore intently the merging line of tablet computing and the PC. This surface 3 particularly has proven to be unreliable and inconsistent in performing routine chores. I have had the computer quit on me in the middle of something important both in Office as well as in Emailing operations. When I first bought it, the sound card did not activate. Now it comes up and down unpredictably. My current thought is that most of its unreliability may have come from the docking station which I bought at the same time. It is possible that they are not fully compatible with each other. If I want to listen to any sound from the tablet, I have to first un-dock the computer. There was also a time the keyboard did not work for about 3 days then I coupled it up again and it started working again. This is not the right thing to invest $1,000 on!
