    Nice laptop and tablet replacement

I bought this device to replace my MacBook Pro Retina and my Kindle Fire HDX for school. First impressions -- I was excited to get my hands on this and when I opened the box I wasn't disappointed. The device was a little heavier than expected but keep in mind that this is essentially a laptop computer in a large tablet form factor. The device rests comfortably on my lap with the built-in kickstand and is easy to use. Likes Speed - With the i7 processor this device runs plenty fast. Display - The screen is nice and sharp in all applications I've used. The touch screen is nice when using the device as a tablet. Surface Pen - The pen is great. The pen and tablet have some of the best handwriting/note taking ability I've seen. Applications - Although some will not like that the Windows App Store does not have the same number of apps as the Apple or Android Stores this is not a problem for me. Since this device is running a full Windows OS I can use both apps and full programs on this device. I love being able to run programs that I was never able to run on any of the tablets I've owned. Battery life - This is a like and a dislike. When I first got the device the battery life was terrible and the device ran hot. After reading about other user's issues I found that certain processes were keeping the processor speed at or near maximum. Once I killed those processes I get a lot of use out of a single charge. The charge will last around 6 to 7 hours with normal use which for me is watching videos, reading text e-books, web surfing and some development. Type Cover - The type cover is nice and thin. Closing the type cover is the same as closing your laptop cover in the OS and you can set your power options accordingly. The mouse surface is very responsive and the keyboard feels natural to type on. The back-light feature is nice as well. When using this device as a tablet you can reverse the type cover so the keys rest against the back of the device. If you are using Windows 10 you can set the device to switch between tablet and desktop mode depending on which way the type cover is attached. The magnetic connectors make it very simple to remove and attach the type cover. Bluetooth - Although the device has a headphone jack and 1 USB port I can connect my headphones, mouse and full-size keyboard via Bluetooth without any issues. Some people complain about the single USB port but I only use that to connect flash drives so I am ok with 1 USB port. Windows 10 - Windows 10 is a huge improvement over Windows 8/8.1. It runs well on this device and has done everything I've asked it to do including running Virtual Machines in VMWare. Dislikes Type Cover as a separate purchase - To use this device as a laptop you pretty much need the type cover. As many reviewers have previously said, this should be included in the price. I got mine for $103 on Amazon which is a little cheaper but if you are buying a device to replace a laptop that device should have a keyboard by default. Heat - This is a small gripe considering I am using an i7 processor in a tablet form factor. When the processor is being pushed it can tend to get a litter warm. During normal use it stays nice and cool. If you want a gaming machine you might want to look elsewhere. Overall I am very happy with this purchase.

After long wanting a Surface and unable to wait for Surface Pro 4, I went ahead and grabbed the 128GB i7 Pro 3 on sale. After using it for 2 months, I definitely recommend it. I appreciate the fast, powerful computer in a superlight frame. I am using it as desktop, laptop, and tablet as a grad student and it works great. Drawboard PDF (available on the MS store) is a must-have for real PDF review/markup potential. On the downside, the reviews are true and the Surface Pro 3 does overheat easily if using an unoptimized website or browser. I find myself regularly tracking performance with Task Manager and under sustained duress (ie. Video games, large excel calculations, some video streams), the processor is limited to about 20%. It's sad, but probably not a dealbreaker for most users. The heat is slightly uncomfortable but I'm more concerned long term about the longevity of the computer. So far, so good. If you don't reach for the soon-to-be-available Pro 4, this computer should be available on bigger and better sales. The i7 128GB is the best price point in the Pro family, and worth grabbing for the upgraded RAM and integrated graphics. The Surface has grown up and can serve the needs of almost everyone I could imagine in the market for a laptop. The way I see it, you get more/comparable power and usability than a Zenbook, Yogapad, MacBook Air, or iPad in one device. When you look at it like that, Surface is definitely worth it.

After reading the reviews I crossed my fingers and purchased my Surface. I have been Lucky that the only annoyance I have is that I have sign on with my password or pin every time, even after just sleep mode. According to the Techs at Best Buy, that is do to windows 10. But my other computer with windows 10 doesn't do this. If this is the only problem I will be happy.

I wanted a replacement for my Sony Vaio laptop FW-520 series, and I bought this device for better performance, battery life and portability. I did change the first one i got because there appeared a dead pixel after two or three weeks and for the battery life! The second one is working fine but honestly the battery life is not as it is supposed! Specially if you open skype and do a video chat! It eats battery! The other issue is that the keyboard doesn't respond sometimes and you need to reattach it! And there are some minor issues like screen doesn't get back by pressing power button rare times! Which you need to press ctrl+alt+del! But at all i like this product and i think it has increased my productivity. So i can recommend it to buy for the people who are looking for a stylish and high performance tablet/laptop. Thank you.

I absolutely LOVE this tablet! It's lightening fast, looks great, and I have a red keyboard! I thought that I would have a harder time adjusting to this Windows 8 tile format but it's quite easy to use and, overall, this Surface gets THREE thumbs up!

The Surface Pro 3 is fast, light, and for all but the most hardcore gamers, a replacement for laptops. My only complaint is the fan kicks into high speed quite most of the time and is louder than most laptops which run the fan on low speed when operating most of the time.

Unlike most computers you buy these days, this doesn't come loaded with all the bloatware that you typically find. As a Microsoft product, it does come with some Apps that can be easily uninstalled. Its a great product for the right individual, one looking for long battery life, portability and performance. It has a responsive touchscreen, high screen resolution, quick startup, and nice stylus pen. Occasionally, the fan will become audible to stabilize temperature, but I have not experienced any overheating issues. Also, you really can't have this without the Type Cover, which costs additional $$$ - which is a downside. But, it integrates well. I would recommend getting the Type Cover for Surface Pro 4 instead of the Type Cover for Surface Pro 3; both are compatible, but the former is improved and more user friendly.

I bought this laptop for classes and so far it's been great. Nice to use to take hand written notes using the included pen and fast enough to write code on for homework assignments. My one major gripe is that the mouse pad is awful. It can be very frustrating moving the mouse pointer with it and it's difficult to find a software setting that works well with it. Even with this gripe though, I'd still highly recommend it to anyone who can afford it.

Writing this a day after the iPad Pro was announced, I can say pretty confidently that this year-old device still bests the iPad Pro in just about every way. It runs a full desktop OS, has a USB 3.0 port and HDMI adapter port, and actually comes with the pen! (With the iPad, it's a $99 add-on). The keyboard feels fantastic to type on, is backlit, and costs at least $40 less. I can even run Steam and play some fairly graphics-heavy games on my i7 iteration. I used to juggle several devices (MacBook, iPad, Kindle and phone). Now the Surface and my phone are all I need. It's great on the desk and great in my lap on the couch. I can't recommend this device more.

These may be more costly than buying any laptop or tablet alone, but the portability, speed, and usability that I get out of this is amazing. When paired with a docking station and dual monitors, this is an ideal work computer for me. I am on the go often and I now have the ability to undock at any moment and continue my work when I'm home. I also love the ability to take meeting notes that are well sorted with the OneNote desktop software. I never want to go back to a regular desktop, laptop, or tablet again.

Really researched before purchasing. Was told this was my best option for replacing ipad and laptop. It's to big to use as a tablet. It's a little heavy and cumbersome for that. The keyboard is fine for typing on but it's an additional purchase. It took 36 hrs for computer to turn on and run. Out of box had that many updates! I do like how transportable it is since I carry it everywhere. Battery life is not near what I expected either.

College student needed a newer (better) laptop. Looking for something small, light to take to class - but something more robust than a tablet. This really is the best of both worlds. Looked at some other products that were similar, but don't have the track record of the Surface. 128GB capacity is pretty low, but with the USB you can always attach external HD, thumbdrives, or DVD for more storage.

Replacing a tablet and my Macbook Pro with this. Powerful device that functions as both a full fledged power station or a casual tablet for whatever I need it for. Only complaint is it can run a little hot when handling multiple things at once.

I purchased the 128GB i7 in hopes of getting a fast machine, though am not sure that it is worth the cost. It is very nice, but I am not tech-savvy enough to know if the less expensive version would suit me just as well. It tends to get hot and the fan is quiet, but does come on. The battery life is less than I was hoping (it drained twice in one day of online shopping). Also, there is a strange white line that flickers across the screen. I don't think it is a screen issue, since its location varies.

I purchased the Surface Pro 3 for both work and home. For work, I am able to use my work's VPN and connect to Share Point. I purchased the I7 128MB model. I am very happy with the speed, portability, and the dual tablet/PC concept. At first, I had trouble with the Facebook App- the fix just required an uninstall and reinstall and now it works just fine.

I've owned many laptops and desktops. The last laptop I owned was a Lenovo, Yoga 2 Pro. The Surface 3 Pro outperforms the Lenovo. It's stylish, light and responsive. The stylist/pen is very accurate. Microsoft's Windows 10 completes the entire experience.

I bought the Surface for my son as he headed off to college and couldn't be happier with the purchase. Powerful enough for gaming but light enough for him to take to classes and take notes, it's a go anywhere workhorse that seems to suit him whether he's writing a paper, doing a presentation or just fooling around on Steam.

It is very intuitive and user friendly. I can play my favorite games, like Left for Dead, Terraria, FTL, and even The Elder Scrolls V. I get a lot of work done too and it is very nice with the attachable keyboard and bluetooth mouse. The pen that comes with it is brilliant and I use it all the time.
