    Great concept; poor execution

With a heavy heart I returned my Surface Pro 4 16gb ram with 512gb. I will forever miss the pen! However, after a frustrating start with the first unit (Surface Pro 4 8gb ram with 256gb) had to be returned within 2 hours of purchase because of a defective pen which would not sync. That was very frustrating to say the least. I decided to upgrade to the Surface Pro 4 with I7 Quad core, 16gb ram, and 512 gb ssd hard drive. It was very quick and fulfilled all of my needs. The pen worked great and is what I will miss by far the most. The windows hello worked most of the time, but did often have problems which seemed to log jam the log in process and lock up the computer requiring an occasional reboot. The on/off button was a major problem. It was a roll of the dice whether the Surface would actually wake up with a push of the button or the screen remain in a very frustrating black screen of darkness. Hitting the button several times would sometimes wake it up out of it's slumber, but often required you to hold the power button down for 15-20 seconds hoping and praying for the Surface to react. Quite often this process would require several attempts before finally rebooting. And that is my biggest complaint by far. It must be noted that I had the very same problem with the first Surface Pro 4 I purchased (8gb ram, i5 core, 256 gb ssd), the replacement of the same machine did the same thing, and finally I upgraded to the Surface Pro 4 i7 quad core, 16 gb ram, and 512 gb ssd which did the same thing. I have had 3 machines which all suffered the same on/off button waking up from sleep mode and subsequent reboot problems. I ultimately was forced to return to the store because the Surface Pro 4 apparently crashed. It would not reboot. It would only respond if plugged in where it then would begin to boot up, then flash a message about self repair mode, then get the black screen of death. The Geek Squad could not wake it up either despite heroic efforts. So I feel it's important to note there appears to be a systemic problem in the Surface Pro series if 3 of 3 machines suffered the same malody. After spending nearly $3,000 on machine, key board, case, and service plan I expect quite a lot from a device that rivals an Apple Mac Book Pro in price but falls way short in quality. I needed the surface pro for my business and did not feel like waiting a week to get a replacement because the store and region did not have any to replace the defective Surface Pro 4 i7 quad core, 16gb ram, 512 gb ssd. So after spending nearly $3,000 I would be waiting longer for the replacement than I actually used it after purchase. So with great despair I decided to return the whole unit and look elsewhere. Like I stated earlier; GREAT CONCEPT; POOR EXECUTION !!!

    Best device in it's class

This is a full power, spec'd out PC 1st, which also happens to function nicely as a tablet. In fact, I no longer use any type of dedicated tablet, just this one device. I am a Surface Pro 3 user who loved the device enough to move up to the Surface Pro 4 (mostly for the higher specs and larger screen). This makes my opinion based on over a year with Surface Pro's, and a little biased since I clearly liked it enough to get another one. What they got right - Amazing amount of power in such a thin and light machine. - Really fast performance (how could it not with these specs?) - Not a gaming machine, but the integrated graphics handle everything I've thrown at it, including a couple games. - The screen is bigger than the SP3 without increasing the size of the tablet (my using more of the bezel space for the screen). - Windows Hello camera used to log in works really well, even in low light - Does not run as hot as SP3, better at dispersing heat. - Phenomenal screen quality - Stylus works great. I am not a designer, so my usage is more just in OneNote and a little amateur Photoshop. - They wisely kept the kick stand exactly the same as the SP3. This is one of the best designs there are. I could not imagine using a device without a kick stand now. What they didn't -Day 1 purchasers like myself dealt with some software/driver issues that should not have made it to release day. That said, most have been solved through Microsoft's pretty regular updates. -Would have liked to see battery life improve over SP3. Windows needs to be able to recognize low power usage and respond by auto saving battery life. - There should have been a USB-C to go with the single USB 3 port, or at least another USB 3 if they aren't ready for USB-C support. USB-C is the future, and Apple is way ahead of the game in supporting (albeit through brute force) new standards like this. Overall, this is a high end machine. The price is justified by the top-end specs and great design. You can get these specs on a number of machines today, so what you are really buying into is the design, which i think tops any other machine, and the pure Windows experience (no bloat-ware). If you aren't a power user, save some money and buy yourself an I5 with 8gig of RAM.

Not much good if I can't see icons and text

The SP4 is everything it claims to be IF all a person wants to run are Microsoft products. Office looks great; fills up the entire screen, icons are normal size and so are the menu items. Internet explorer (now called Microsoft Edge) is the same - all proportioned as it should be. BUT! I downloaded an alternative search engine and every part of it was so tiny it is absolutely unreadable. I like other word processing programs more than MS Office. I installed the my favorite. and again, teeny weeny icons and text. Fortunately, this program has a plug-in to get around this, but it only half solves the problem. My favorite photo editing software shows up so tiny that it is IMPOSSIBLE to us. See the attached photo. I called for help and the SP4 tech told me that it is a known problem and they are working to fix it. They DO NOT KNOW when any other program than Microsoft programs will work on this Microsoft PC. So despite their claim, this device cannot replace my laptop, in any way shape or form.

This is the second Surface Pro I've owned. I use a Surface Pro 3 for my home computing, and purchased this Surface Pro 4 for work. It is an excellent device that does everything a laptop would do. HOWEVER, due to its limited ports, you must by the docking device to get enough ports. For both of my Pro's, I use a docking device (the ones made specifically for them), Additionally, for my home set up, I also daisy chain it to a Toshiba docking hub to get more and a greater variety of ports --- I have a key board, mouse, external CD, two screens, a printer, and a few other odd peripherals plugged in. I love being able to just unplug and take my Pro with me when I go. I also like that it is small and light for carrying or just sitting in front of the TV for doing work. And the bonus is that when I travel by air, because it can be considered a tablet rather than laptop, I don't have to take it out of my bag when going through security. I really like the Surface Pro, and have chosen it ahead of my HP laptop as well as my iPad, my Nividia, and my Nexus devices for using at work.

I had a suface pro 3, and had some issues with it starting up, and I bought a model that was underpowered for what I wanted to use it for. However, I liked the concept, and decided to purchase the suface pro 4. I'm using it with a dock, and it's my only windows machine I'm using (I also have a dell desktop). the sp4 has performed very well; it seems to run a bit hot at times, so keep it cool. I've had one or two times when it didn't want to power up, but hitting the power button for 30 seconds brought it back to life. The display is terrific, but the text is small, so you may need your reading glasses if you are in my age bracket. It's really easy to carry around, and although it doesn't have the battery life of a ipad pro, it's definitely enough in most situations. Windows 10 helps here; windows has definitely almost caught up to the mac os. The new stand is much better than the old one, with a much wider angle of rotation. It can still be a bit tricky if it's on your lap, but way better than it used to be with the sp3. Overall I'm very happy with the sp4, and the keyboard that Microsoft sells is very good. The pen is still an afterthought for me, but I've actually found a use for it! A good product all in all.

I am not ashamed to admit that I regularly use and buy Apple gear. It works really well for me and I like that my gear all works pretty well together. Having said that, I purchased this device on behalf of my company because they like having Windows machines and I love the form factor for the Surface Pro 4. My model is the Core i7, 16gb memory and 512gb storage. This device is light weight, thin and very portable. I also bought the keyboard model that has the fingerprint sensor and use it daily. This is such a great device for people who travel and need Windows OS and apps. The kicker to my review is that I wish it ran Mac OS instead of Windows 10. I still find 10 to be buggy and occasionally frustrating. The pen is of no value for me and I generally never use it as a tablet and I generally never touch the screen. I use it as a laptop with a mouse. Port selection is limited with 1 USB and 1 display port which means I cannot connect many devices unless I carry a small hub. For example, I use a 27" display in my home office, I then use a USB ethernet adapter, a USB Jabra speaker/speakerphone or USB headset for use with Skype for Business and a USB dongle for a wireless keyboard and mouse.

My brother and I have always wanted a Surface Pro of sorts of our own so the Surface Pro 4 was more than enough for me. It runs everything pretty well from drawing, to surfing the internet, to multi-usage apps at once, and even gaming! The sound quality is pretty amazing and clear as well as it reaches a significant high volume through output. Though the battery life can deplete rather quickly, depending on what you are using it for as can be applied for any device, it recharges quickly. The switch between tablet and pc mode is pretty great too, but I suggest staying in pc mode and getting a keyboard for this as if you do not, you might have a rather harder time than it would be to surf around as well as this is mobile and the keyboard serves as a cover, it is very easy to take around wherever you go. Overall, this Surface Pro 4 is pretty amazing and I couldn't have asked for a better one. It's perfect just for all the things I need it for.

Good: 1. Great Performance. I am able to run a FHD and 2K monitor without any problems. 2. Device is beautiful. Pen work great 3. Keyboard works great. I really like that it has a backlight. 4. I really like the hub accessory. It is really cool, that you can charge from the USB hub 5. Display works great Cons: 1. Devices came with a dead battery (0% charge). It should have been 60%). This is not very good for the health of the battery. 2. It took a while to trickle charge the battery before the device booted. (I almost returned the device) 3. The fan turns on after you run it for 10 min. It a low/high pitch noise that I hate. Sadly, it seems to be typical with this size of devices. hint: The tablet fan will not turn on if you point a small USB fan to it. Summary: They battery been dead on arrival is annoying but not a deal breaker. The device works great. Excellent performance. Great for business.

Surface Pro 4 - great product, some glitches

I had a Surface Pro (SP) 2; loved it, however a bit too small. I got the SP3; loved it. Had a few glitches occasionally, however I used it DAILY and EXTENSIVELY. Dragged it with me everywhere. I upgraded to the SP4. The first one I got was BAD BAD BAD. I believe it had a bad Windows image because it would constantly crash, freeze, etc. and then I would get messages the files were damaged or corrupt. I called Geek Squad and they said to bring it back. Best Buy gave me NO issues returning this item and ordered a new one (they do not keep the 512 GB hard drive models in the store). The replacement is GREAT. Works as designed and is FAST. I get an occasional glitch where it says something went wrong, collects data to send to Microsoft and reboots itself. I love Surface Pro's and so far...love this one.

The tablet is very thin and can be carried around with no problem. I use it in the living room and in bed all the time but I use a stand that keeps the tablet in the right position while in bed. I have a stand in my living room and it fits just fine. It is not heavy to carry. I wish that it had more than one USB port. It runs Powerful products with no problem. Get the largest SSD drive that you can afford as the large programs take a lot of room. When listening with headphones the sound quality is very good. I like it very much and will use it for a long time.

Upon initial use there were some aggravating glitches, however after MS came out with a few updates those have resolved. I loved the SP2, SP3 (better) and the SP4 is fantastic. Light, very portable, and works as well as any conventional laptop. I got the i7 512 gb drive with 16 mb of ram and couldn't be happier. It is the best "laptop" I have ever owned and doesn't weigh 20 pounds. Expensive, but I would do it again. I use MS Office 2013, Sketchbook Pro 7, QuickBooks 2015 and several other programs every day. This little laptop keeps pace with everything. Much faster than the conventional laptop I use at work.

I bought a souped up, top of the line Surface Pro 4 with i7, 16GB Memory and 512GB storage. Works great on all my files as it is basically a windows 10 laptop with an ultra-portable design. Connectivity when not on wi-fi will continue to be a limiting factor for which I am hoping someone will finally find a fix. The pen is cool, but so far has been of minimal value other than having fun painting pictures and taking notes on MS OneNote 2016 when I am brainstorming. Maybe I just need to learn how to integrate it better into my day to day?

I had to return the first purchase when an update put the tablet in an infinite reboot loop and dead pixel emerged. But the second has not had any issues. It runs lighting calculation software and CAD great. I have not connected to a docking station or monitor yet. But have noticed and will warn, do not remove or connect any devices while the tablet is off. All connections and removal should be done with the tablet turned on. This includes the keyboard has to be in the open in-use position and not folded behind during start up. Otherwise you will have to restart the tablet.

Product was defective so I drove 40 minutes to POP, was told by tech (who was sitting and staring at his phone) that he would not look at it unless I had an appointment. Would need to drive back home, wait for available time and then drive back. He suggested I just return it and buy another. Found the salesperson who corrected the problem by replacing defective part. Product now is good; will shop elsewhere going forward. Would recommend product but not Best Buy. This year purchased TV, computer, multiple components and accessories. Was a loyal BB customer.

I started with the Surface Pro 3 and while happy with it for surfing the Net in front of the TV I just couldn't commit. With the Surface Pro 4 i7 at 16MB/512GB it has all of the power I need for both personal use and to serve as a backup for my office computer (which is currently a Dell, but will hopefully soon be another Surface Pro 4). The pen action was also good enough for me to start trying my hand at digital art. I've purchased a dozen laptops and this is my favorite by far.

I had ot return PRO 3 due to recall (mine overheated, froze, turned off out of the blue and wouldn't turn back on). I got the Pro 4 so it I could use the same accessories.........1st one came damaged 2nd one day 2 got hot to the touch and fan came on loud. That has happened about 3 times since but it hasn't turned off. In hindsight, my daughter had the same thing (Pro 3 had to turn in) and she got the MS Book. Maybe I should've done that. The functionality is awesome because I need something powerful but light and portable that I can work on.

I was excited to replace my laptop with this new device, assuming it would be faster, have a longer battery life and have fewer funky problems. I seemed like it would be worth the extra money... Not true:. often bogging down, very dificult to manage with my network, and if the computer is off for a couple pf days sitting in my briefcase the battery dies. Yes, dies even when off, not at all Happy with the machine and definitely would not recommend this to anyone.

When I first got this tablet, it hung during initialization. I took it to Geek Squad and they got it working again, but it was definitely a warning flag. About a week later, while on a trip, it died totally. Could not get it to start up at all. Fortunately, the day we got back, when I called for a Geek Squad appt., I was told it was the last day of my return/exchange period. I exchanged it for another one, but only 256GB storage, as that is what they had in stock.

Well, the second time was the charm. 1st one had headphone jack and sound issues. HOWEVER, did a easy exchange and its been absolutely amazing ever since. No problems. The system does get 5 stars. The exchange was a minor issue. The surface is fast and reliable. Battery life is totally great in my point of view. I already got extra Surface Pen, plus Surface Edition Arc Mouse, glass protector, and folio case. Performance is smooth.

It's a great tablet for sure. The Pro 3 had a major overheating problem so I really hope they fixed it in this iteration. Other than that, a great laptop replacement. All our top management use them and they've ditched their heavy laptops the moment they got these. Great on the road, but with the additional dock, it's great at the office as well. Add a couple of large screen LCD monitors and you will feel like you are using a high performance desktop workstation.
